2021-03-07docs: arm: marvell: replace stale links with archive linksLubomir Rintel1-77/+79
Marvell has an annoying habit of moving stuff around their web site every full moon, and often just removing documents altogether. At this point basically none but four of the links still works and even those that work today weren't working for a long period of time previously. That is a shame because (short of the product briefs) the documents tend to be quite useful. Let's replace them with known working versions of IA's Wayback Machine links. That seems to be about the only way of getting a URL that's going to work the next week. 2020-10-27ARM: 9015/2: Define the virtual space of KASan's shadow regionLinus Walleij1-0/+5
Define KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET,KASAN_SHADOW_START and KASAN_SHADOW_END for the Arm kernel address sanitizer. We are "stealing" lowmem (the 4GB addressable by a 32bit architecture) out of the virtual address space to use as shadow memory for KASan as follows: +----+ 0xffffffff | | | | |-> Static kernel image (vmlinux) BSS and page table | |/ +----+ PAGE_OFFSET | | | | |-> Loadable kernel modules virtual address space area | |/ +----+ MODULES_VADDR = KASAN_SHADOW_END | | | | |-> The shadow area of kernel virtual address. | |/ +----+-> TASK_SIZE (start of kernel space) = KASAN_SHADOW_START the | | shadow address of MODULES_VADDR | | | | | | | | |-> The user space area in lowmem. The kernel address | | | sanitizer do not use this space, nor does it map it. | | | | | | | | | | | | | |/ ------ 0 0 .. TASK_SIZE is the memory that can be used by shared userspace/kernelspace. It us used for userspace processes and for passing parameters and memory buffers in system calls etc. We do not need to shadow this area. KASAN_SHADOW_START: This value begins with the MODULE_VADDR's shadow address. It is the start of kernel virtual space. Since we have modules to load, we need to cover also that area with shadow memory so we can find memory bugs in modules. KASAN_SHADOW_END This value is the 0x100000000's shadow address: the mapping that would be after the end of the kernel memory at 0xffffffff. It is the end of kernel address sanitizer shadow area. It is also the start of the module area. KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET: This value is used to map an address to the corresponding shadow address by the following formula: shadow_addr = (address >> 3) + KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET; As you would expect, >> 3 is equal to dividing by 8, meaning each byte in the shadow memory covers 8 bytes of kernel memory, so one bit shadow memory per byte of kernel memory is used. The KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET is provided in a Kconfig option depending on the VMSPLIT layout of the system: the kernel and userspace can split up lowmem in different ways according to needs, so we calculate the shadow offset depending on this. When kasan is enabled, the definition of TASK_SIZE is not an 8-bit rotated constant, so we need to modify the TASK_SIZE access code in the *.s file. The kernel and modules may use different amounts of memory, according to the VMSPLIT configuration, which in turn determines the PAGE_OFFSET. We use the following KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSETs depending on how the virtual memory is split up: - 0x1f000000 if we have 1G userspace / 3G kernelspace split: - The kernel address space is 3G (0xc0000000) - PAGE_OFFSET is then set to 0x40000000 so the kernel static image (vmlinux) uses addresses 0x40000000 .. 0xffffffff - On top of that we have the MODULES_VADDR which under the worst case (using ARM instructions) is PAGE_OFFSET - 16M (0x01000000) = 0x3f000000 so the modules use addresses 0x3f000000 .. 0x3fffffff - So the addresses 0x3f000000 .. 0xffffffff need to be covered with shadow memory. That is 0xc1000000 bytes of memory. - 1/8 of that is needed for its shadow memory, so 0x18200000 bytes of shadow memory is needed. We "steal" that from the remaining lowmem. - The KASAN_SHADOW_START becomes 0x26e00000, to KASAN_SHADOW_END at 0x3effffff. - Now we can calculate the KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET for any kernel address as 0x3f000000 needs to map to the first byte of shadow memory and 0xffffffff needs to map to the last byte of shadow memory. Since: SHADOW_ADDR = (address >> 3) + KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET 0x26e00000 = (0x3f000000 >> 3) + KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET = 0x26e00000 - (0x3f000000 >> 3) KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET = 0x26e00000 - 0x07e00000 KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET = 0x1f000000 - 0x5f000000 if we have 2G userspace / 2G kernelspace split: - The kernel space is 2G (0x80000000) - PAGE_OFFSET is set to 0x80000000 so the kernel static image uses 0x80000000 .. 0xffffffff. - On top of that we have the MODULES_VADDR which under the worst case (using ARM instructions) is PAGE_OFFSET - 16M (0x01000000) = 0x7f000000 so the modules use addresses 0x7f000000 .. 0x7fffffff - So the addresses 0x7f000000 .. 0xffffffff need to be covered with shadow memory. That is 0x81000000 bytes of memory. - 1/8 of that is needed for its shadow memory, so 0x10200000 bytes of shadow memory is needed. We "steal" that from the remaining lowmem. - The KASAN_SHADOW_START becomes 0x6ee00000, to KASAN_SHADOW_END at 0x7effffff. - Now we can calculate the KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET for any kernel address as 0x7f000000 needs to map to the first byte of shadow memory and 0xffffffff needs to map to the last byte of shadow memory. Since: SHADOW_ADDR = (address >> 3) + KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET 0x6ee00000 = (0x7f000000 >> 3) + KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET = 0x6ee00000 - (0x7f000000 >> 3) KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET = 0x6ee00000 - 0x0fe00000 KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET = 0x5f000000 - 0x9f000000 if we have 3G userspace / 1G kernelspace split, and this is the default split for ARM: - The kernel address space is 1GB (0x40000000) - PAGE_OFFSET is set to 0xc0000000 so the kernel static image uses 0xc0000000 .. 0xffffffff. - On top of that we have the MODULES_VADDR which under the worst case (using ARM instructions) is PAGE_OFFSET - 16M (0x01000000) = 0xbf000000 so the modules use addresses 0xbf000000 .. 0xbfffffff - So the addresses 0xbf000000 .. 0xffffffff need to be covered with shadow memory. That is 0x41000000 bytes of memory. - 1/8 of that is needed for its shadow memory, so 0x08200000 bytes of shadow memory is needed. We "steal" that from the remaining lowmem. - The KASAN_SHADOW_START becomes 0xb6e00000, to KASAN_SHADOW_END at 0xbfffffff. - Now we can calculate the KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET for any kernel address as 0xbf000000 needs to map to the first byte of shadow memory and 0xffffffff needs to map to the last byte of shadow memory. Since: SHADOW_ADDR = (address >> 3) + KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET 0xb6e00000 = (0xbf000000 >> 3) + KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET = 0xb6e00000 - (0xbf000000 >> 3) KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET = 0xb6e00000 - 0x17e00000 KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET = 0x9f000000 - 0x8f000000 if we have 3G userspace / 1G kernelspace with full 1 GB low memory (VMSPLIT_3G_OPT): - The kernel address space is 1GB (0x40000000) - PAGE_OFFSET is set to 0xb0000000 so the kernel static image uses 0xb0000000 .. 0xffffffff. - On top of that we have the MODULES_VADDR which under the worst case (using ARM instructions) is PAGE_OFFSET - 16M (0x01000000) = 0xaf000000 so the modules use addresses 0xaf000000 .. 0xaffffff - So the addresses 0xaf000000 .. 0xffffffff need to be covered with shadow memory. That is 0x51000000 bytes of memory. - 1/8 of that is needed for its shadow memory, so 0x0a200000 bytes of shadow memory is needed. We "steal" that from the remaining lowmem. - The KASAN_SHADOW_START becomes 0xa4e00000, to KASAN_SHADOW_END at 0xaeffffff. - Now we can calculate the KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET for any kernel address as 0xaf000000 needs to map to the first byte of shadow memory and 0xffffffff needs to map to the last byte of shadow memory. Since: SHADOW_ADDR = (address >> 3) + KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET 0xa4e00000 = (0xaf000000 >> 3) + KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET = 0xa4e00000 - (0xaf000000 >> 3) KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET = 0xa4e00000 - 0x15e00000 KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET = 0x8f000000 - The default value of 0xffffffff for KASAN_SHADOW_OFFSET is an error value. We should always match one of the above shadow offsets. When we do this, TASK_SIZE will sometimes get a bit odd values that will not fit into immediate mov assembly instructions. To account for this, we need to rewrite some assembly using TASK_SIZE like this: - mov r1, #TASK_SIZE + ldr r1, =TASK_SIZE or - cmp r4, #TASK_SIZE + ldr r0, =TASK_SIZE + cmp r4, r0 this is done to avoid the immediate #TASK_SIZE that need to fit into a limited number of bits. 2020-10-27ARM: 9012/1: move device tree mapping out of linear regionArd Biesheuvel1-1/+6
On ARM, setting up the linear region is tricky, given the constraints around placement and alignment of the memblocks, and how the kernel itself as well as the DT are placed in physical memory. Let's simplify matters a bit, by moving the device tree mapping to the top of the address space, right between the end of the vmalloc region and the start of the the fixmap region, and create a read-only mapping for it that is independent of the size of the linear region, and how it is organized. Since this region was formerly used as a guard region, which will now be populated fully on LPAE builds by this read-only mapping (which will still be able to function as a guard region for stray writes), bump the start of the [underutilized] fixmap region by 512 KB as well, to ensure that there is always a proper guard region here. Doing so still leaves ample room for the fixmap space, even with NR_CPUS set to its maximum value of 32. CONFIG_EFI_VARS controls the code that exposes EFI variables via sysfs entries, which was deprecated before support for non-Intel architectures was added to EFI. 2019-02-12ARM: 8833/1: Ensure that NEON code always compiles with ClangNathan Chancellor1-2/+2
While building arm32 allyesconfig, I ran into the following errors: arch/arm/lib/xor-neon.c:17:2: error: You should compile this file with '-mfloat-abi=softfp -mfpu=neon' In file included from lib/raid6/neon1.c:27: /home/nathan/cbl/prebuilt/lib/clang/8.0.0/include/arm_neon.h:28:2: error: "NEON support not enabled" Building V=1 showed NEON_FLAGS getting passed along to Clang but __ARM_NEON__ was not getting defined. Ultimately, it boils down to Clang only defining __ARM_NEON__ when targeting armv7, rather than armv6k, which is the '-march' value for allyesconfig. >From lib/Basic/Targets/ARM.cpp in the Clang source: // This only gets set when Neon instructions are actually available, unlike // the VFP define, hence the soft float and arch check. This is subtly // different from gcc, we follow the intent which was that it should be set // when Neon instructions are actually available. if ((FPU & NeonFPU) && !SoftFloat && ArchVersion >= 7) { Builder.defineMacro("__ARM_NEON", "1"); Builder.defineMacro("__ARM_NEON__"); // current AArch32 NEON implementations do not support double-precision // floating-point even when it is present in VFP. Builder.defineMacro("__ARM_NEON_FP", "0x" + Twine::utohexstr(HW_FP & ~HW_FP_DP)); } Ard Biesheuvel recommended explicitly adding '-march=armv7-a' at the beginning of the NEON_FLAGS definitions so that __ARM_NEON__ always gets definined by Clang. This doesn't functionally change anything because that code will only run where NEON is supported, which is implicitly armv7. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arm/arm-soc Pull ARM SoC device tree updates from Arnd Bergmann: "There are close to 800 indivudal changesets in this branch again, which feels like a lot. There are particularly many changes for the NVIDIA Tegra platform this time, in fact more than it has seen in the two years since the v4.9 merge window. Aside from this, it's been fairly normal, with lots of changes going into Renesas R-CAR, NXP i.MX, Allwinner Sunxi, Samsung Exynos, and TI OMAP. Most of the changes are for adding new features into existing boards, for brevity I'm only mentioning completely new machines and SoCs here. For the first time I think we have (slightly) more new 64-bit hardware than 32-bit: Two boards get added for TI OMAP: Moxa UC-2101 is an industrial computer, see https://www.moxa.com/product/UC-2100.htm; GTA04A5 is a minor variation of the motherboards of the GTA04 phone, see https://shop.goldelico.com/wiki.php?page=GTA04A5 Clearfog is a nice little board for quad-core Marvell Armada 8040 network processor, see https://www.solid-run.com/marvell-armada-family/clearfog-gt-8k/ Two additional server boards come with the Aspeed baseboard management controllers: Stardragon4800 is an arm64 reference platform made by HXT (based on Qualcomm's server chips), and TiogaPass is an Open Compute mainboard with x86 CPUs. Both use the ARM11 based AST2500 chips in the BMC. NXP i.MX usually sees a lot of new boards each release. This time there we only add one minor variant: ConnectCore 6UL SBC Pro uses the same SoM design as the ConnectCore 6UL SBC Express added later. However, there is a new chip, the i.MX6ULZ, which is an even smaller variant of the i.MX6ULL, with features removed. There is also support for the reference board design, the i.MX6ULZ 14x14 EVK. A new Raspberry Pi variant gets added, this one is the CM3 compute module based on bcm2837, it was launched in early 2017 but only now added to the kernel, both as 32-bit and as 64-bit files, as we tend to do for Raspberry Pi. On the Allwinner side, everything is again about cheap development boards, usually of the "Fruit Pi" variety. The new ones this time are: - Orange Pi Zero Plus2: http://www.orangepi.org/OrangePiZeroPlus2/ - Orange Pi One Plus: http://www.orangepi.org/OrangePiOneplus/ - Pine64 LTS: https://www.pine64.org/?product=pine-a64-lts - Banana Pi M2+ H5: http://www.banana-pi.org/m2plus.html The last one of these is now a 64-bit version of the earlier Banana Pi M2+ H3, with the same board layout. Similarly, for Rockchips, get get another variant of the 32-bit Asus Tinker board, the model 'S' based on rk3288, and three now boards based on the popular RK3399 chip: - ROC-RK3399-PC: https://libre.computer/products/boards/roc-rk3399-pc/ - Rock960: https://www.96boards.org/product/rock960/ - RockPro64: https://www.pine64.org/?page_id=61454 These are all quite powerful boards with lots of RAM and I/O, and the RK3399 is the same chip used in several Chromebooks. Finally, we get support for the PX30 (aka rk3326) chip, which is based on the low-end 64-bit Cortex-A35 CPU core. So far, only the evaluation board is supported. One more Banana Pi is added with a Mediatek chip: Banana Pi R64 is based on the MT7622 WiFi router platform, and the first product I've seen with a 64-bit Mediatek chip in that market: http://www.banana-pi.org/r64.html For HiSilicon, we gain support for the Hi3670 SoC and HiKey 370 development board, which are similar to the Hi3660 and Hikey 360 respectively, but add support for an NPU. Amlogic gets initial support for the Meson-G12A chip (S905D2), another quad-core Cortex-A53 SoC, and its evaluation platform. On the 32-bit side, we gain support for an actual end-user product, the Endless Computers Endless Mini based on Meson8b (S805), see https://endlessos.com/computers/ Qualcomm adds support for their MSM8998 SoC and evaluation platform. This chip is commonly known as the Snapdragon 835, and is used in high-end phones as well as low-end laptops. For Renesas, a very bare support for the r8a774a1 (RZ/G2M) is added, but no boards for this one. However, we do add boards for the previously added r8a77965 (R-Car M3-N): the M3NULCB Kingfisher and the M3NULCB Starter Kit Pro. While we have lots of DT changes for NVIDIA to update the existing files, the only board that gets added is the Toradex Colibri T20 on Colibri Evaluation Board for the old Tegra2. Synaptics add support for their AS370 SoC, which is part of the (formerly Marvell) Berlin line of set-top-box chips used e.g. in the various Google Chromecast. 2018-09-10Drop all 00-INDEX files from Documentation/Henrik Austad1-50/+0
This is a respin with a wider audience (all that get_maintainer returned) and I know this spams a *lot* of people. Not sure what would be the correct way, so my apologies for ruining your inbox. The 00-INDEX files are supposed to give a summary of all files present in a directory, but these files are horribly out of date and their usefulness is brought into question. Often a simple "ls" would reveal the same information as the filenames are generally quite descriptive as a short introduction to what the file covers (it should not surprise anyone what Documentation/sched/sched-design-CFS.txt covers) A few years back it was mentioned that these files were no longer really needed, and they have since then grown further out of date, so perhaps it is time to just throw them out. A short status yields the following _outdated_ 00-INDEX files, first counter is files listed in 00-INDEX but missing in the directory, last is files present but not listed in 00-INDEX. List of outdated 00-INDEX: Documentation: (4/10) Documentation/sysctl: (0/1) Documentation/timers: (1/0) Documentation/blockdev: (3/1) Documentation/w1/slaves: (0/1) Documentation/locking: (0/1) Documentation/devicetree: (0/5) Documentation/power: (1/1) Documentation/powerpc: (0/5) Documentation/arm: (1/0) Documentation/x86: (0/9) Documentation/x86/x86_64: (1/1) Documentation/scsi: (4/4) Documentation/filesystems: (2/9) Documentation/filesystems/nfs: (0/2) Documentation/cgroup-v1: (0/2) Documentation/kbuild: (0/4) Documentation/spi: (1/0) Documentation/virtual/kvm: (1/0) Documentation/scheduler: (0/2) Documentation/fb: (0/1) Documentation/block: (0/1) Documentation/networking: (6/37) Documentation/vm: (1/3) Then there are 364 subdirectories in Documentation/ with several files that are missing 00-INDEX alltogether (and another 120 with a single file and no 00-INDEX). I don't really have an opinion to whether or not we /should/ have 00-INDEX, but the above 00-INDEX should either be removed or be kept up to date. If we should keep the files, I can try to keep them updated, but I rather not if we just want to delete them anyway.
