2019-09-14riscv: modify the Image header to improve compatibility with the ARM64 headerPaul Walmsley1-6/+7
Part of the intention during the definition of the RISC-V kernel image header was to lay the groundwork for a future merge with the ARM64 image header. One error during my original review was not noticing that the RISC-V header's "magic" field was at a different size and position than the ARM64's "magic" field. If the existing ARM64 Image header parsing code were to attempt to parse an existing RISC-V kernel image header format, it would see a magic number 0. This is undesirable, since it's our intention to align as closely as possible with the ARM64 header format. Another problem was that the original "res3" field was not being initialized correctly to zero. Address these issues by creating a 32-bit "magic2" field in the RISC-V header which matches the ARM64 "magic" field. RISC-V binaries will store "RSC\x05" in this field. The intention is that the use of the existing 64-bit "magic" field in the RISC-V header will be deprecated over time. Increment the minor version number of the file format to indicate this change, and update the documentation accordingly. Fix the assembler directives in head.S to ensure that reserved fields are properly zero-initialized. The example node in the binding uses the AST2500 compatible string for the SD controller with a 64kiB ranges property, but the SD controller is allocated 128kiB of MMIO space according to the AST2500 datasheet. Fix the example to correctly reflect the hardware in the AST2500, however it should be noted that the MMIO region is reduced to 64kiB in the AST2600 where a second SD controller block has been introduced into the address space. 2019-09-09KVM: arm/arm64: vgic: Allow more than 256 vcpus for KVM_IRQ_LINEMarc Zyngier1-2/+10
While parts of the VGIC support a large number of vcpus (we bravely allow up to 512), other parts are more limited. One of these limits is visible in the KVM_IRQ_LINE ioctl, which only allows 256 vcpus to be signalled when using the CPU or PPI types. Unfortunately, we've cornered ourselves badly by allocating all the bits in the irq field. Since the irq_type subfield (8 bit wide) is currently only taking the values 0, 1 and 2 (and we have been careful not to allow anything else), let's reduce this field to only 4 bits, and allocate the remaining 4 bits to a vcpu2_index, which acts as a multiplier: vcpu_id = 256 * vcpu2_index + vcpu_index With that, and a new capability (KVM_CAP_ARM_IRQ_LINE_LAYOUT_2) allowing this to be discovered, it becomes possible to inject PPIs to up to 4096 vcpus. But please just don't. Whilst we're there, add a clarification about the use of KVM_IRQ_LINE on arm, which is not completely conditionned by KVM_CAP_IRQCHIP. 2019-09-06Documentation: sysrq: don't recommend 'S' 'U' before 'B'Adam Borowski1-11/+9
This advice is obsolete and slightly harmful for filesystems from this millenium: any modern filesystem can handle unexpected crashes without requiring fsck -- and on the other hand, trying to write to the disk when the kernel is in a bad state risks introducing corruption. For ext2, any unsafe shutdown meant widespread breakage, but it's no longer a reasonable filesystem for any non-special use. 2019-09-06PM: runtime: Documentation: add runtime_status ABI documentAkinobu Mita1-0/+9
/sys/devices/.../power/runtime_status is introduced by commit c92445fadb91 ("PM / Runtime: Add sysfs debug files"). Then commit 0fcb4eef8294 ("PM / Runtime: Make runtime_status attribute not debug-only (v. 2)") made the runtime_status attribute available without CONFIG_PM_ADVANCED_DEBUG. This adds missing runtime_status ABI document. Signed-off-by: Akinobu Mita <akinobu.mita@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rafael.j.wysocki@intel.com>
