2019-12-25net: add bool confirm_neigh parameter for dst_ops.update_pmtuHangbin Liu1-2/+4
The MTU update code is supposed to be invoked in response to real networking events that update the PMTU. In IPv6 PMTU update function __ip6_rt_update_pmtu() we called dst_confirm_neigh() to update neighbor confirmed time. But for tunnel code, it will call pmtu before xmit, like: - tnl_update_pmtu() - skb_dst_update_pmtu() - ip6_rt_update_pmtu() - __ip6_rt_update_pmtu() - dst_confirm_neigh() If the tunnel remote dst mac address changed and we still do the neigh confirm, we will not be able to update neigh cache and ping6 remote will failed. So for this ip_tunnel_xmit() case, _EVEN_ if the MTU is changed, we should not be invoking dst_confirm_neigh() as we have no evidence of successful two-way communication at this point. On the other hand it is also important to keep the neigh reachability fresh for TCP flows, so we cannot remove this dst_confirm_neigh() call. To fix the issue, we have to add a new bool parameter for dst_ops.update_pmtu to choose whether we should do neigh update or not. I will add the parameter in this patch and set all the callers to true to comply with the previous way, and fix the tunnel code one by one on later patches. v5: No change. v4: No change. v3: Do not remove dst_confirm_neigh, but add a new bool parameter in dst_ops.update_pmtu to control whether we should do neighbor confirm. Also split the big patch to small ones for each area. v2: Remove dst_confirm_neigh in __ip6_rt_update_pmtu. 2019-04-28netlink: make validation more configurable for future strictnessJohannes Berg3-10/+10
We currently have two levels of strict validation: 1) liberal (default) - undefined (type >= max) & NLA_UNSPEC attributes accepted - attribute length >= expected accepted - garbage at end of message accepted 2) strict (opt-in) - NLA_UNSPEC attributes accepted - attribute length >= expected accepted Split out parsing strictness into four different options: * TRAILING - check that there's no trailing data after parsing attributes (in message or nested) * MAXTYPE - reject attrs > max known type * UNSPEC - reject attributes with NLA_UNSPEC policy entries * STRICT_ATTRS - strictly validate attribute size The default for future things should be *everything*. The current *_strict() is a combination of TRAILING and MAXTYPE, and is renamed to _deprecated_strict(). The current regular parsing has none of this, and is renamed to *_parse_deprecated(). Additionally it allows us to selectively set one of the new flags even on old policies. Notably, the UNSPEC flag could be useful in this case, since it can be arranged (by filling in the policy) to not be an incompatible userspace ABI change, but would then going forward prevent forgetting attribute entries. Similar can apply to the POLICY flag. We end up with the following renames: * nla_parse -> nla_parse_deprecated * nla_parse_strict -> nla_parse_deprecated_strict * nlmsg_parse -> nlmsg_parse_deprecated * nlmsg_parse_strict -> nlmsg_parse_deprecated_strict * nla_parse_nested -> nla_parse_nested_deprecated * nla_validate_nested -> nla_validate_nested_deprecated Using spatch, of course: @@ expression TB, MAX, HEAD, LEN, POL, EXT; @@ -nla_parse(TB, MAX, HEAD, LEN, POL, EXT) +nla_parse_deprecated(TB, MAX, HEAD, LEN, POL, EXT) @@ expression NLH, HDRLEN, TB, MAX, POL, EXT; @@ -nlmsg_parse(NLH, HDRLEN, TB, MAX, POL, EXT) +nlmsg_parse_deprecated(NLH, HDRLEN, TB, MAX, POL, EXT) @@ expression NLH, HDRLEN, TB, MAX, POL, EXT; @@ -nlmsg_parse_strict(NLH, HDRLEN, TB, MAX, POL, EXT) +nlmsg_parse_deprecated_strict(NLH, HDRLEN, TB, MAX, POL, EXT) @@ expression TB, MAX, NLA, POL, EXT; @@ -nla_parse_nested(TB, MAX, NLA, POL, EXT) +nla_parse_nested_deprecated(TB, MAX, NLA, POL, EXT) @@ expression START, MAX, POL, EXT; @@ -nla_validate_nested(START, MAX, POL, EXT) +nla_validate_nested_deprecated(START, MAX, POL, EXT) @@ expression NLH, HDRLEN, MAX, POL, EXT; @@ -nlmsg_validate(NLH, HDRLEN, MAX, POL, EXT) +nlmsg_validate_deprecated(NLH, HDRLEN, MAX, POL, EXT) For this patch, don't actually add the strict, non-renamed versions yet so that it breaks compile if I get it wrong. Also, while at it, make nla_validate and nla_parse go down to a common __nla_validate_parse() function to avoid code duplication. 2019-04-28netlink: make nla_nest_start() add NLA_F_NESTED flagMichal Kubecek1-1/+1
Even if the NLA_F_NESTED flag was introduced more than 11 years ago, most netlink based interfaces (including recently added ones) are still not setting it in kernel generated messages. Without the flag, message parsers not aware of attribute semantics (e.g. wireshark dissector or libmnl's mnl_nlmsg_fprintf()) cannot recognize nested attributes and won't display the structure of their contents. Unfortunately we cannot just add the flag everywhere as there may be userspace applications which check nlattr::nla_type directly rather than through a helper masking out the flags. Therefore the patch renames nla_nest_start() to nla_nest_start_noflag() and introduces nla_nest_start() as a wrapper adding NLA_F_NESTED. The calls which add NLA_F_NESTED manually are rewritten to use nla_nest_start(). 2019-01-28decnet: fix DN_IFREQ_SIZEJohannes Berg1-1/+1
Digging through the ioctls with Al because of the previous patches, we found that on 64-bit decnet's dn_dev_ioctl() is wrong, because struct ifreq::ifr_ifru is actually 24 bytes (not 16 as expected from struct sockaddr) due to the ifru_map and ifru_settings members. Clearly, decnet expects the ioctl to be called with a struct like struct ifreq_dn { char ifr_name[IFNAMSIZ]; struct sockaddr_dn ifr_addr; }; since it does struct ifreq *ifr = ...; struct sockaddr_dn *sdn = (struct sockaddr_dn *)&ifr->ifr_addr; This means that DN_IFREQ_SIZE is too big for what it wants on 64-bit, as it is sizeof(struct ifreq) - sizeof(struct sockaddr) + sizeof(struct sockaddr_dn) This assumes that sizeof(struct sockaddr) is the size of ifr_ifru but that isn't true. Fix this to use offsetof(struct ifreq, ifr_ifru). This indeed doesn't really matter much - the result is that we copy in/out 8 bytes more than we should on 64-bit platforms. In case the "struct ifreq_dn" lands just on the end of a page though it might lead to faults. As far as I can tell, it has been like this forever, so it seems very likely that nobody cares. 2019-01-17net, decnet: use struct_size() in kzalloc()Gustavo A. R. Silva1-1/+1
One of the more common cases of allocation size calculations is finding the size of a structure that has a zero-sized array at the end, along with memory for some number of elements for that array. For example: struct foo { int stuff; struct boo entry[]; }; instance = kzalloc(sizeof(struct foo) + count * sizeof(struct boo), GFP_KERNEL); Instead of leaving these open-coded and prone to type mistakes, we can now use the new struct_size() helper: instance = kzalloc(struct_size(instance, entry, count), GFP_KERNEL); This code was detected with the help of Coccinelle. 2018-12-28mm: convert totalram_pages and totalhigh_pages variables to atomicArun KS1-1/+1
totalram_pages and totalhigh_pages are made static inline function. Main motivation was that managed_page_count_lock handling was complicating things. It was discussed in length here, https://lore.kernel.org/patchwork/patch/995739/#1181785 So it seemes better to remove the lock and convert variables to atomic, with preventing poteintial store-to-read tearing as a bonus. Pull networking updates from David Miller: 1) New ipset extensions for matching on destination MAC addresses, from Stefano Brivio. 2) Add ipv4 ttl and tos, plus ipv6 flow label and hop limit offloads to nfp driver. From Stefano Brivio. 3) Implement GRO for plain UDP sockets, from Paolo Abeni. 4) Lots of work from Michał Mirosław to eliminate the VLAN_TAG_PRESENT bit so that we could support the entire vlan_tci value. 5) Rework the IPSEC policy lookups to better optimize more usecases, from Florian Westphal. 6) Infrastructure changes eliminating direct manipulation of SKB lists wherever possible, and to always use the appropriate SKB list helpers. This work is still ongoing... 7) Lots of PHY driver and state machine improvements and simplifications, from Heiner Kallweit. 8) Various TSO deferral refinements, from Eric Dumazet. 9) Add ntuple filter support to aquantia driver, from Dmitry Bogdanov. 10) Batch dropping of XDP packets in tuntap, from Jason Wang. 11) Lots of cleanups and improvements to the r8169 driver from Heiner Kallweit, including support for ->xmit_more. This driver has been getting some much needed love since he started working on it. 12) Lots of new forwarding selftests from Petr Machata. 13) Enable VXLAN learning in mlxsw driver, from Ido Schimmel. 14) Packed ring support for virtio, from Tiwei Bie. 15) Add new Aquantia AQtion USB driver, from Dmitry Bezrukov. 16) Add XDP support to dpaa2-eth driver, from Ioana Ciocoi Radulescu. 17) Implement coalescing on TCP backlog queue, from Eric Dumazet. 18) Implement carrier change in tun driver, from Nicolas Dichtel. 19) Support msg_zerocopy in UDP, from Willem de Bruijn. 20) Significantly improve garbage collection of neighbor objects when the table has many PERMANENT entries, from David Ahern. 21) Remove egdev usage from nfp and mlx5, and remove the facility completely from the tree as it no longer has any users. From Oz Shlomo and others. 22) Add a NETDEV_PRE_CHANGEADDR so that drivers can veto the change and therefore abort the operation before the commit phase (which is the NETDEV_CHANGEADDR event). From Petr Machata. 23) Add indirect call wrappers to avoid retpoline overhead, and use them in the GRO code paths. From Paolo Abeni. 24) Add support for netlink FDB get operations, from Roopa Prabhu. 25) Support bloom filter in mlxsw driver, from Nir Dotan. 26) Add SKB extension infrastructure. This consolidates the handling of the auxiliary SKB data used by IPSEC and bridge netfilter, and is designed to support the needs to MPTCP which could be integrated in the future. 27) Lots of XDP TX optimizations in mlx5 from Tariq Toukan. * git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net-next: (1845 commits) net: dccp: fix kernel crash on module load drivers/net: appletalk/cops: remove redundant if statement and mask bnx2x: Fix NULL pointer dereference in bnx2x_del_all_vlans() on some hw net/net_namespace: Check the return value of register_pernet_subsys() net/netlink_compat: Fix a missing check of nla_parse_nested ieee802154: lowpan_header_create check must check daddr net/mlx4_core: drop useless LIST_HEAD mlxsw: spectrum: drop useless LIST_HEAD net/mlx5e: drop useless LIST_HEAD iptunnel: Set tun_flags in the iptunnel_metadata_reply from src net/mlx5e: fix semicolon.cocci warnings staging: octeon: fix build failure with XFRM enabled net: Revert recent Spectre-v1 patches. can: af_can: Fix Spectre v1 vulnerability packet: validate address length if non-zero nfc: af_nfc: Fix Spectre v1 vulnerability phonet: af_phonet: Fix Spectre v1 vulnerability net: core: Fix Spectre v1 vulnerability net: minor cleanup in skb_ext_add() net: drop the unused helper skb_ext_get() ...

2018-06-28Revert changes to convert to ->poll_mask() and aio IOCB_CMD_POLLLinus Torvalds1-3/+3
The poll() changes were not well thought out, and completely unexplained. They also caused a huge performance regression, because "->poll()" was no longer a trivial file operation that just called down to the underlying file operations, but instead did at least two indirect calls. Indirect calls are sadly slow now with the Spectre mitigation, but the performance problem could at least be largely mitigated by changing the "->get_poll_head()" operation to just have a per-file-descriptor pointer to the poll head instead. That gets rid of one of the new indirections. But that doesn't fix the new complexity that is completely unwarranted for the regular case. The (undocumented) reason for the poll() changes was some alleged AIO poll race fixing, but we don't make the common case slower and more complex for some uncommon special case, so this all really needs way more explanations and most likely a fundamental redesign.
