2021-08-17IMA: remove the dependency on CRYPTO_MD5THOBY Simon1-1/+0
MD5 is a weak digest algorithm that shouldn't be used for cryptographic operation. It hinders the efficiency of a patch set that aims to limit the digests allowed for the extended file attribute namely security.ima. MD5 is no longer a requirement for IMA, nor should it be used there. The sole place where we still use the MD5 algorithm inside IMA is setting the ima_hash algorithm to MD5, if the user supplies 'ima_hash=md5' parameter on the command line. With commit ab60368ab6a4 ("ima: Fallback to the builtin hash algorithm"), setting "ima_hash=md5" fails gracefully when CRYPTO_MD5 is not set: ima: Can not allocate md5 (reason: -2) ima: Allocating md5 failed, going to use default hash algorithm sha256 Remove the CRYPTO_MD5 dependency for IMA. 2021-06-11IMA: support for duplicate measurement recordsTushar Sugandhi1-0/+7
IMA measures contents of a given file/buffer/critical-data record, and properly re-measures it on change. However, IMA does not measure the duplicate value for a given record, since TPM extend is a very expensive operation. For example, if the record changes from value 'v#1' to 'v#2', and then back to 'v#1', IMA will not measure and log the last change to 'v#1', since the hash of 'v#1' for that record is already present in the IMA htable. This limits the ability of an external attestation service to accurately determine the current state of the system. The service would incorrectly conclude that the latest value of the given record on the system is 'v#2', and act accordingly. Define and use a new Kconfig option IMA_DISABLE_HTABLE to permit duplicate records in the IMA measurement list. In addition to the duplicate measurement records described above, other duplicate file measurement records may be included in the log, when CONFIG_IMA_DISABLE_HTABLE is enabled. For example, - i_version is not enabled, - i_generation changed, - same file present on different filesystems, - an inode is evicted from dcache Signed-off-by: Tushar Sugandhi <tusharsu@linux.microsoft.com> Reviewed-by: Petr Vorel <pvorel@suse.cz> [zohar@linux.ibm.com: updated list of duplicate measurement records] Signed-off-by: Mimi Zohar <zohar@linux.ibm.com>

2020-07-21ima: move APPRAISE_BOOTPARAM dependency on ARCH_POLICY to runtimeBruno Meneguele1-1/+1
The IMA_APPRAISE_BOOTPARAM config allows enabling different "ima_appraise=" modes - log, fix, enforce - at run time, but not when IMA architecture specific policies are enabled.  This prevents properly labeling the filesystem on systems where secure boot is supported, but not enabled on the platform.  Only when secure boot is actually enabled should these IMA appraise modes be disabled. This patch removes the compile time dependency and makes it a runtime decision, based on the secure boot state of that platform. Test results as follows: -> x86-64 with secure boot enabled [ 0.015637] Kernel command line: <...> ima_policy=appraise_tcb ima_appraise=fix [ 0.015668] ima: Secure boot enabled: ignoring ima_appraise=fix boot parameter option -> powerpc with secure boot disabled [ 0.000000] Kernel command line: <...> ima_policy=appraise_tcb ima_appraise=fix [ 0.000000] Secure boot mode disabled -> Running the system without secure boot and with both options set: CONFIG_IMA_APPRAISE_BOOTPARAM=y CONFIG_IMA_ARCH_POLICY=y Audit prompts "missing-hash" but still allow execution and, consequently, filesystem labeling: type=INTEGRITY_DATA msg=audit(07/09/2020 12:30:27.778:1691) : pid=4976 uid=root auid=root ses=2 subj=unconfined_u:unconfined_r:unconfined_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 op=appraise_data cause=missing-hash comm=bash name=/usr/bin/evmctl dev="dm-0" ino=493150 res=no Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org Fixes: d958083a8f64 ("x86/ima: define arch_get_ima_policy() for x86") Signed-off-by: Bruno Meneguele <bmeneg@redhat.com> Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org # 5.0 Signed-off-by: Mimi Zohar <zohar@linux.ibm.com>

2019-09-28Merge branch 'next-lockdown' of ↵Linus Torvalds1-1/+1
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jmorris/linux-security Pull kernel lockdown mode from James Morris: "This is the latest iteration of the kernel lockdown patchset, from Matthew Garrett, David Howells and others. From the original description: This patchset introduces an optional kernel lockdown feature, intended to strengthen the boundary between UID 0 and the kernel. When enabled, various pieces of kernel functionality are restricted. Applications that rely on low-level access to either hardware or the kernel may cease working as a result - therefore this should not be enabled without appropriate evaluation beforehand. The majority of mainstream distributions have been carrying variants of this patchset for many years now, so there's value in providing a doesn't meet every distribution requirement, but gets us much closer to not requiring external patches. There are two major changes since this was last proposed for mainline: - Separating lockdown from EFI secure boot. Background discussion is covered here: https://lwn.net/Articles/751061/ - Implementation as an LSM, with a default stackable lockdown LSM module. This allows the lockdown feature to be policy-driven, rather than encoding an implicit policy within the mechanism. The new locked_down LSM hook is provided to allow LSMs to make a policy decision around whether kernel functionality that would allow tampering with or examining the runtime state of the kernel should be permitted. The included lockdown LSM provides an implementation with a simple policy intended for general purpose use. This policy provides a coarse level of granularity, controllable via the kernel command line: lockdown={integrity|confidentiality} Enable the kernel lockdown feature. If set to integrity, kernel features that allow userland to modify the running kernel are disabled. If set to confidentiality, kernel features that allow userland to extract confidential information from the kernel are also disabled. This may also be controlled via /sys/kernel/security/lockdown and overriden by kernel configuration. New or existing LSMs may implement finer-grained controls of the lockdown features. Refer to the lockdown_reason documentation in include/linux/security.h for details. The lockdown feature has had signficant design feedback and review across many subsystems. This code has been in linux-next for some weeks, with a few fixes applied along the way. 2019-08-20kexec_file: split KEXEC_VERIFY_SIG into KEXEC_SIG and KEXEC_SIG_FORCEJiri Bohac1-1/+1
This is a preparatory patch for kexec_file_load() lockdown. A locked down kernel needs to prevent unsigned kernel images from being loaded with kexec_file_load(). Currently, the only way to force the signature verification is compiling with KEXEC_VERIFY_SIG. This prevents loading usigned images even when the kernel is not locked down at runtime. This patch splits KEXEC_VERIFY_SIG into KEXEC_SIG and KEXEC_SIG_FORCE. Analogous to the MODULE_SIG and MODULE_SIG_FORCE for modules, KEXEC_SIG turns on the signature verification but allows unsigned images to be loaded. KEXEC_SIG_FORCE disallows images without a valid signature. 2019-08-06ima: Implement support for module-style appended signaturesThiago Jung Bauermann1-0/+3
Implement the appraise_type=imasig|modsig option, allowing IMA to read and verify modsig signatures. In case a file has both an xattr signature and an appended modsig, IMA will only use the appended signature if the key used by the xattr signature isn't present in the IMA or platform keyring. Because modsig verification needs to convert from an integrity keyring id to the keyring itself, add an integrity_keyring_from_id() function in digsig.c so that integrity_modsig_verify() can use it. Introduce the modsig keyword to the IMA policy syntax to specify that a given hook should expect the file to have the IMA signature appended to it. Here is how it can be used in a rule: appraise func=KEXEC_KERNEL_CHECK appraise_type=imasig|modsig With this rule, IMA will accept either a signature stored in the extended attribute or an appended signature. For now, the rule above will behave exactly the same as if appraise_type=imasig was specified. The actual modsig implementation will be introduced separately. 2018-12-11x86/ima: define arch_get_ima_policy() for x86Eric Richter1-1/+9
On x86, there are two methods of verifying a kexec'ed kernel image signature being loaded via the kexec_file_load syscall - an architecture specific implementaton or a IMA KEXEC_KERNEL_CHECK appraisal rule. Neither of these methods verify the kexec'ed kernel image signature being loaded via the kexec_load syscall. Secure boot enabled systems require kexec images to be signed. Therefore, this patch loads an IMA KEXEC_KERNEL_CHECK policy rule on secure boot enabled systems not configured with CONFIG_KEXEC_VERIFY_SIG enabled. When IMA_APPRAISE_BOOTPARAM is configured, different IMA appraise modes (eg. fix, log) can be specified on the boot command line, allowing unsigned or invalidly signed kernel images to be kexec'ed. 2016-04-12IMA: Use the the system trusted keyrings instead of .ima_mokDavid Howells1-13/+23
Add a config option (IMA_KEYRINGS_PERMIT_SIGNED_BY_BUILTIN_OR_SECONDARY) that, when enabled, allows keys to be added to the IMA keyrings by userspace - with the restriction that each must be signed by a key in the system trusted keyrings. EPERM will be returned if this option is disabled, ENOKEY will be returned if no authoritative key can be found and EKEYREJECTED will be returned if the signature doesn't match. Other errors such as ENOPKG may also be returned. If this new option is enabled, the builtin system keyring is searched, as is the secondary system keyring if that is also enabled. Intermediate keys between the builtin system keyring and the key being added can be added to the secondary keyring (which replaces .ima_mok) to form a trust chain - provided they are also validly signed by a key in one of the trusted keyrings. 2014-09-09integrity: base integrity subsystem kconfig options on integrityDmitry Kasatkin1-2/+0
The integrity subsystem has lots of options and takes more than half of the security menu. This patch consolidates the options under "integrity", which are hidden if not enabled. This change does not affect existing configurations. Re-configuration is not needed. Changes v4: - no need to change "integrity subsystem" to menuconfig as options are hidden, when not enabled. (Mimi) - add INTEGRITY Kconfig help description Changes v3: - dependency to INTEGRITY removed when behind 'if INTEGRITY' Changes v2: - previous patch moved integrity out of the 'security' menu. This version keeps integrity as a security option (Mimi). Signed-off-by: Dmitry Kasatkin <d.kasatkin@samsung.com> Signed-off-by: Mimi Zohar <zohar@linux.vnet.ibm.com>

2013-11-24Revert "ima: define '_ima' as a builtin 'trusted' keyring"Linus Torvalds1-8/+0
This reverts commit 217091dd7a7a1bdac027ddb7c5a25f6ac0b8e241, which caused the following build error: security/integrity/digsig.c:70:5: error: redefinition of ‘integrity_init_keyring’ security/integrity/integrity.h:149:12: note: previous definition of ‘integrity_init_keyring’ w security/integrity/integrity.h:149:12: warning: ‘integrity_init_keyring’ defined but not used reported by Krzysztof Kolasa. 2013-11-01ima: extend the measurement list to include the file signatureMimi Zohar1-0/+3
This patch defines a new template called 'ima-sig', which includes the file signature in the template data, in addition to the file's digest and pathname. A template is composed of a set of fields. Associated with each field is an initialization and display function. This patch defines a new template field called 'sig', the initialization function ima_eventsig_init(), and the display function ima_show_template_sig(). This patch modifies the .field_init() function definition to include the 'security.ima' extended attribute and length. Changelog: - remove unused code (Dmitry Kasatkin) - avoid calling ima_write_template_field_data() unnecesarily (Roberto Sassu) - rename DATA_FMT_SIG to DATA_FMT_HEX - cleanup ima_eventsig_init() based on Roberto's comments Signed-off-by: Mimi Zohar <zohar@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Dmitry Kasatkin <d.kasatkin@samsung.com> Signed-off-by: Roberto Sassu <roberto.sassu@polito.it>
2013-10-27ima: enable support for larger default filedata hash algorithmsMimi Zohar1-0/+35
The IMA measurement list contains two hashes - a template data hash and a filedata hash. The template data hash is committed to the TPM, which is limited, by the TPM v1.2 specification, to 20 bytes. The filedata hash is defined as 20 bytes as well. Now that support for variable length measurement list templates was added, the filedata hash is not limited to 20 bytes. This patch adds Kconfig support for defining larger default filedata hash algorithms and replacing the builtin default with one specified on the kernel command line. <uapi/linux/hash_info.h> contains a list of hash algorithms. The Kconfig default hash algorithm is a subset of this list, but any hash algorithm included in the list can be specified at boot, using the 'ima_hash=' kernel command line option. Changelog v2: - update Kconfig Changelog: - support hashes that are configured - use generic HASH_ALGO_ definitions - add Kconfig support - hash_setup must be called only once (Dmitry) - removed trailing whitespaces (Roberto Sassu) Signed-off-by: Mimi Zohar <zohar@us.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Roberto Sassu <roberto.sassu@polito.it>
2013-10-27ima: add Kconfig default measurement list templateMimi Zohar1-0/+25
This patch adds a Kconfig option to select the default IMA measurement list template. The 'ima' template limited the filedata hash to 20 bytes and the pathname to 255 charaters. The 'ima-ng' measurement list template permits larger hash digests and longer pathnames. Changelog: - keep 'select CRYPTO_HASH_INFO' in 'config IMA' section (Kconfig) (Roberto Sassu); - removed trailing whitespaces (Roberto Sassu). - Lindent fixes Signed-off-by: Mimi Zohar <zohar@us.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Roberto Sassu <roberto.sassu@polito.it>
2013-10-26ima: provide support for arbitrary hash algorithmsDmitry Kasatkin1-0/+1
In preparation of supporting more hash algorithms with larger hash sizes needed for signature verification, this patch replaces the 20 byte sized digest, with a more flexible structure. The new structure includes the hash algorithm, digest size, and digest. Changelog: - recalculate filedata hash for the measurement list, if the signature hash digest size is greater than 20 bytes. - use generic HASH_ALGO_ - make ima_calc_file_hash static - scripts lindent and checkpatch fixes Signed-off-by: Dmitry Kasatkin <d.kasatkin@samsung.com> Signed-off-by: Mimi Zohar <zohar@linux.vnet.ibm.com>
2013-06-20integrity: move integrity_audit_msg()Mimi Zohar1-12/+0
This patch moves the integrity_audit_msg() function and defintion to security/integrity/, the parent directory, renames the 'ima_audit' boot command line option to 'integrity_audit', and fixes the Kconfig help text to reflect the actual code. Changelog: - Fixed ifdef inclusion of integrity_audit_msg() (Fengguang Wu) Signed-off-by: Mimi Zohar <zohar@linux.vnet.ibm.com>
2012-09-07ima: integrity appraisal extensionMimi Zohar1-0/+15
IMA currently maintains an integrity measurement list used to assert the integrity of the running system to a third party. The IMA-appraisal extension adds local integrity validation and enforcement of the measurement against a "good" value stored as an extended attribute 'security.ima'. The initial methods for validating 'security.ima' are hashed based, which provides file data integrity, and digital signature based, which in addition to providing file data integrity, provides authenticity. This patch creates and maintains the 'security.ima' xattr, containing the file data hash measurement. Protection of the xattr is provided by EVM, if enabled and configured. Based on policy, IMA calls evm_verifyxattr() to verify a file's metadata integrity and, assuming success, compares the file's current hash value with the one stored as an extended attribute in 'security.ima'. Changelov v4: - changed iint cache flags to hex values Changelog v3: - change appraisal default for filesystems without xattr support to fail Changelog v2: - fix audit msg 'res' value - removed unused 'ima_appraise=' values Changelog v1: - removed unused iint mutex (Dmitry Kasatkin) - setattr hook must not reset appraised (Dmitry Kasatkin) - evm_verifyxattr() now differentiates between no 'security.evm' xattr (INTEGRITY_NOLABEL) and no EVM 'protected' xattrs included in the 'security.evm' (INTEGRITY_NOXATTRS). - replace hash_status with ima_status (Dmitry Kasatkin) - re-initialize slab element ima_status on free (Dmitry Kasatkin) - include 'security.ima' in EVM if CONFIG_IMA_APPRAISE, not CONFIG_IMA - merged half "ima: ima_must_appraise_or_measure API change" (Dmitry Kasatkin) - removed unnecessary error variable in process_measurement() (Dmitry Kasatkin) - use ima_inode_post_setattr() stub function, if IMA_APPRAISE not configured (moved ima_inode_post_setattr() to ima_appraise.c) - make sure ima_collect_measurement() can read file Changelog: - add 'iint' to evm_verifyxattr() call (Dimitry Kasatkin) - fix the race condition between chmod, which takes the i_mutex and then iint->mutex, and ima_file_free() and process_measurement(), which take the locks in the reverse order, by eliminating iint->mutex. (Dmitry Kasatkin) - cleanup of ima_appraise_measurement() (Dmitry Kasatkin) - changes as a result of the iint not allocated for all regular files, but only for those measured/appraised. - don't try to appraise new/empty files - expanded ima_appraisal description in ima/Kconfig - IMA appraise definitions required even if IMA_APPRAISE not enabled - add return value to ima_must_appraise() stub - unconditionally set status = INTEGRITY_PASS *after* testing status, not before.
