2022-07-22ARM: orion: add ATAGS dependenciesArnd Bergmann1-13/+0
Most of the remaining arm board files in the kernel are unused and will be removed in early 2023 if no users step up. So far I got no user replies about the orion5x and mv78xx0 machines, but these are still supported in the default kernel of the Debian 'armel' (armv5 softfloat) distro, and there is an active project on github that tries to keep some of these machines working, and Mauri Sandberg is working on a DT conversion for the D-Link DNS-323. It appears the Debian-on-Buffalo project has not got the Terastation WXL working in a few years, and the other mv78xx0 machines are just the reference designs, so I assume none of these have remaining users. For the Orion5x family, the same is probably true for its reference implementations (RD88Fxxxxx, DB88F281) and the machines with less than 64MB of memory (WNR854T, WRT350N v2). The remaining nine machines are now scheduled to be kept for at least 2023, hopefully to be replaced with DT based versions. The mv78xx0_defconfig file needs to enable CONFIG_UNUSED_BOARD_FILES to still build, while the other affected defconfig files lose the specific boards. CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO is now implicitly selected if one picks one of the explicit options that could be DEBUG_INFO_DWARF_TOOLCHAIN_DEFAULT, DEBUG_INFO_DWARF4, DEBUG_INFO_DWARF5. This was actually not what I had in mind when I suggested making it a 'choice' statement, but it's too late to change again now, and the Kconfig logic is more sensible in the new form. Change any defconfig file that had CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO enabled but did not pick DWARF4 or DWARF5 explicitly to now pick the toolchain default. A lot of Kconfig options have changed over the years, and we tend to not do a blind 'make defconfig' to refresh the files, to ensure we catch options that should not have gone away. I used some a bit of scripting to only rework the bits where an option moved around in any of the defconfig files, without also dropping any of the other lines, to make it clearer which options we no longer have. It is not recommended (help message: "This should not be used today [...] creates a high system load") and was kept only for ancient userland, 3. Certain userland specifically requests it to be disabled (systemd README: "Legacy hotplug slows down the system and confuses udev"). 2015-12-17ARM: defconfig: use correct debug_ll settingsArnd Bergmann1-1/+0
The debug-ll infrastructure can be configured in two ways, either by selecting a platform specific debug option, or by picking one of the generic options (8250 or pl01x typically). For compatibility with multiplatform kernels, we have changed a couple of platforms to use the former method now when they used to use the latter. Unfortunately, this broke the defconfigs because now they still enable CONFIG_DEBUG_LL_UART_PL01X or CONFIG_DEBUG_LL_UART_8250, and we no longer configure the correct register addresses automatically. Embarrassingly, this was only found in linux-next when the defconfig builds turned up errors for multiple people, and I had not caught those in my own tests, which were done using the randconfig fixes patchset on top, and that has a workaround to avoid a build error when the addresses are not configured. The error was something like: .config:2010:warning: symbol value '' invalid for DEBUG_UART_PHYS .config:2011:warning: symbol value '' invalid for DEBUG_UART_VIRT This patch avoids the problem by removing the respective statements from the defconfig files. Any out of tree defconfig files on the platforms I have changed will have to do the same change or run into the build error above. Any users that have a full .config already set the correct DEBUG_UART_PHYS/VIRT addresses and do not need to change anything. All defconfigs touched by this patch already enable DEBUG_LL and by default DEBUG_LL_UART_NONE will be selected. This causes no issues today because due to some back compatibility magic we eventually need to remove it is not actually honoured. Nevertheless DEBUG_LL_UART_8250 is the right value for these platforms and should be set in the config files. 2011-01-21kconfig: rename CONFIG_EMBEDDED to CONFIG_EXPERTDavid Rientjes1-1/+1
The meaning of CONFIG_EMBEDDED has long since been obsoleted; the option is used to configure any non-standard kernel with a much larger scope than only small devices. This patch renames the option to CONFIG_EXPERT in init/Kconfig and fixes references to the option throughout the kernel. A new CONFIG_EMBEDDED option is added that automatically selects CONFIG_EXPERT when enabled and can be used in the future to isolate options that should only be considered for embedded systems (RISC architectures, SLOB, etc). Calling the option "EXPERT" more accurately represents its intention: only expert users who understand the impact of the configuration changes they are making should enable it. The HP mv2120 has several LEDs that are controlled through gpio. Export the health LED, the red SATA LEDs as well as two gpios that control the brightness of _all_ LEDs to userland. The Ethernet and power LEDs can't be controlled through gpio and the blue SATA LEDs are handled via the SATA driver.
