2023-05-29ARM: mm: Make virt_to_pfn() a static inlineLinus Walleij1-1/+1
Making virt_to_pfn() a static inline taking a strongly typed (const void *) makes the contract of a passing a pointer of that type to the function explicit and exposes any misuse of the macro virt_to_pfn() acting polymorphic and accepting many types such as (void *), (unitptr_t) or (unsigned long) as arguments without warnings. Doing this is a bit intrusive: virt_to_pfn() requires PHYS_PFN_OFFSET and PAGE_SHIFT to be defined, and this is defined in <asm/page.h>, so this must be included *before* <asm/memory.h>. The use of macros were obscuring the unclear inclusion order here, as the macros would eventually be resolved, but a static inline like this cannot be compiled with unresolved macros. The naive solution to include <asm/page.h> at the top of <asm/memory.h> does not work, because <asm/memory.h> sometimes includes <asm/page.h> at the end of itself, which would create a confusing inclusion loop. So instead, take the approach to always unconditionally include <asm/page.h> at the end of <asm/memory.h> arch/arm uses <asm/memory.h> explicitly in a lot of places, however it turns out that if we just unconditionally include <asm/memory.h> into <asm/page.h> and switch all inclusions of <asm/memory.h> to <asm/page.h> instead, we enforce the right order and <asm/memory.h> will always have access to the definitions. Put an inclusion guard in place making it impossible to include <asm/memory.h> explicitly. Choosing big-endian vs little-endian kernels in Kconfig has not worked correctly since the introduction of CONFIG_ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM a long time ago. The problems is that CONFIG_BIG_ENDIAN depends on ARCH_SUPPORTS_BIG_ENDIAN, which can set by any one platform in the config, but would actually have to be supported by all of them. This was mostly ok for ARMv6/ARMv7 builds, since these are BE8 and tend to just work aside from problems in nonportable device drivers. For ARMv4/v5 machines, CONFIG_BIG_ENDIAN and CONFIG_ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM were never set together, so this was disabled on all those machines except for IXP4xx. As IXP4xx can now become part of ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM, it seems better to formalize this logic: all ARMv4/v5 platforms get an explicit dependency on being either big-endian (ixp4xx) or little-endian (the rest). We may want to fix ixp4xx in the future to support both, but it does not work in LE mode at the moment. For the ARMv6/v7 platforms, there are two ways this could be handled a) allow both modes only for platforms selecting 'ARCH_SUPPORTS_BIG_ENDIAN' today, but only LE mode for the others, given that these were added intentionally at some point. b) allow both modes everwhere, given that it was already possible to build that way by e.g. selecting ARCH_VIRT, and that the list is not an accurate reflection of which platforms may or may not work. 2020-09-17dma-mapping: introduce DMA range map, supplanting dma_pfn_offsetJim Quinlan1-9/+8
The new field 'dma_range_map' in struct device is used to facilitate the use of single or multiple offsets between mapping regions of cpu addrs and dma addrs. It subsumes the role of "dev->dma_pfn_offset" which was only capable of holding a single uniform offset and had no region bounds checking. The function of_dma_get_range() has been modified so that it takes a single argument -- the device node -- and returns a map, NULL, or an error code. The map is an array that holds the information regarding the DMA regions. Each range entry contains the address offset, the cpu_start address, the dma_start address, and the size of the region. of_dma_configure() is the typical manner to set range offsets but there are a number of ad hoc assignments to "dev->dma_pfn_offset" in the kernel driver code. These cases now invoke the function dma_direct_set_offset(dev, cpu_addr, dma_addr, size). The DMA offset notifier can only be used if PHYS_OFFSET is at least KEYSTONE_HIGH_PHYS_START, which can't be represented by a 32-bit phys_addr_t. Currently the code compiles fine despite that, a pending change to the DMA offset handling would create a compiler warning for this case. Add an ifdef to not compile the code except for LPAE configs. 2019-06-19ARM: use arch_extension directive instead of arch argumentStefan Agner2-3/+1
The LLVM Target parser currently does not allow to specify the security extension as part of -march (see also LLVM Bug 40186 [0]). When trying to use Clang with LLVM's integrated assembler, this leads to build errors such as this: clang-8: error: the clang compiler does not support '-Wa,-march=armv7-a+sec' Use ".arch_extension sec" to enable the security extension in a more portable fasion. Also make sure to use ".arch armv7-a" in case a v6/v7 multi-platform kernel is being built. Note that this is technically not exactly the same as the old code checked for availabilty of the security extension by calling as-instr. However, there are already other sites which use ".arch_extension sec" unconditionally, hence de-facto we need an assembler capable of ".arch_extension sec" already today (arch/arm/mm/proc-v7.S). The arch extension "sec" is available since binutils 2.21 according to its documentation [1]. 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman1-0/+1
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. Introduce a ti_sci_pm_domains driver to act as a generic pm domain provider to allow each device to attach and associate it's ti-sci-id so that it can be controlled through the TI SCI protocol. This driver implements a simple genpd where each device node has a phandle to the power domain node and also must provide an index which represents the ID to be passed with TI SCI representing the device using a single phandle cell. The driver manually parses the phandle to get the cell value. Through this interface the genpd dev_ops start and stop hooks will use TI SCI to turn on and off each device as determined by pm_runtime usage. 2016-02-08ARM: make virt_to_idmap() return unsigned longRussell King1-1/+1
Make virt_to_idmap() return an unsigned long rather than phys_addr_t. Returning phys_addr_t here makes no sense, because the definition of virt_to_idmap() is that it shall return a physical address which maps identically with the virtual address. Since virtual addresses are limited to 32-bit, identity mapped physical addresses are as well. Almost all users already had an implicit narrowing cast to unsigned long so let's make this official and part of this interface. 2015-06-02ARM: redo TTBR setup code for LPAERussell King1-13/+0
Re-engineer the LPAE TTBR setup code. Rather than passing some shifted address in order to fit in a CPU register, pass either a full physical address (in the case of r4, r5 for TTBR0) or a PFN (for TTBR1). This removes the ARCH_PGD_SHIFT hack, and the last dangerous user of cpu_set_ttbr() in the secondary CPU startup code path (which was there to re-set TTBR1 to the appropriate high physical address space on Keystone2.) The definition static const char *axxia_dt_match[] __initconst = { ... defines a changable array of constant strings. That is you must not do: *axxia_dt_match[0] = 'k'; but axxia_dt_match[0] = "different string"; is fine. So the annotation __initconst is wrong and yields a compiler error when other really const variables are added with __initconst. As the struct machine_desc member dt_compat is declared as const char *const *dt_compat; making the arrays const is the better alternative over changing all annotations to __initdata.
