2022-12-05xen/virtio: Optimize the setup of "xen-grant-dma" devicesOleksandr Tyshchenko1-1/+1
This is needed to avoid having to parse the same device-tree several times for a given device. For this to work we need to install the xen_virtio_restricted_mem_acc callback in Arm's xen_guest_init() which is same callback as x86's PV and HVM modes already use and remove the manual assignment in xen_setup_dma_ops(). Also we need to split the code to initialize backend_domid into a separate function. Prior to current patch we parsed the device-tree three times: 1. xen_setup_dma_ops()->...->xen_is_dt_grant_dma_device() 2. xen_setup_dma_ops()->...->xen_dt_grant_init_backend_domid() 3. xen_virtio_mem_acc()->...->xen_is_dt_grant_dma_device() With current patch we parse the device-tree only once in xen_virtio_restricted_mem_acc()->...->xen_dt_grant_init_backend_domid() Other benefits are: - Not diverge from x86 when setting up Xen grant DMA ops - Drop several global functions Signed-off-by: Oleksandr Tyshchenko <oleksandr_tyshchenko@epam.com> Reviewed-by: Xenia Ragiadakou <burzalodowa@gmail.com> Reviewed-by: Stefano Stabellini <sstabellini@kernel.org> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20221025162004.8501-2-olekstysh@gmail.com Signed-off-by: Juergen Gross <jgross@suse.com>
2022-08-01xen: don't require virtio with grants for non-PV guestsJuergen Gross1-1/+3
Commit fa1f57421e0b ("xen/virtio: Enable restricted memory access using Xen grant mappings") introduced a new requirement for using virtio devices: the backend now needs to support the VIRTIO_F_ACCESS_PLATFORM feature. This is an undue requirement for non-PV guests, as those can be operated with existing backends without any problem, as long as those backends are running in dom0. Per default allow virtio devices without grant support for non-PV guests. On Arm require VIRTIO_F_ACCESS_PLATFORM for devices having been listed in the device tree to use grants. Add a new config item to always force use of grants for virtio. 2022-07-01xen/arm: Fix race in RB-tree based P2M accountingOleksandr Tyshchenko1-2/+4
During the PV driver life cycle the mappings are added to the RB-tree by set_foreign_p2m_mapping(), which is called from gnttab_map_refs() and are removed by clear_foreign_p2m_mapping() which is called from gnttab_unmap_refs(). As both functions end up calling __set_phys_to_machine_multi() which updates the RB-tree, this function can be called concurrently. There is already a "p2m_lock" to protect against concurrent accesses, but the problem is that the first read of "phys_to_mach.rb_node" in __set_phys_to_machine_multi() is not covered by it, so this might lead to the incorrect mappings update (removing in our case) in RB-tree. In my environment the related issue happens rarely and only when PV net backend is running, the xen_add_phys_to_mach_entry() claims that it cannot add new pfn <-> mfn mapping to the tree since it is already exists which results in a failure when mapping foreign pages. But there might be other bad consequences related to the non-protected root reads such use-after-free, etc. While at it, also fix the similar usage in __pfn_to_mfn(), so initialize "struct rb_node *n" with the "p2m_lock" held in both functions to avoid possible bad consequences. 2022-05-11swiotlb-xen: fix DMA_ATTR_NO_KERNEL_MAPPING on armChristoph Hellwig1-14/+0
swiotlb-xen uses very different ways to allocate coherent memory on x86 vs arm. On the former it allocates memory from the page allocator, while on the later it reuses the dma-direct allocator the handles the complexities of non-coherent DMA on arm platforms. Unfortunately the complexities of trying to deal with the two cases in the swiotlb-xen.c code lead to a bug in the handling of DMA_ATTR_NO_KERNEL_MAPPING on arm. With the DMA_ATTR_NO_KERNEL_MAPPING flag the coherent memory allocator does not actually allocate coherent memory, but just a DMA handle for some memory that is DMA addressable by the device, but which does not have to have a kernel mapping. Thus dereferencing the return value will lead to kernel crashed and memory corruption. Fix this by using the dma-direct allocator directly for arm, which works perfectly fine because on arm swiotlb-xen is only used when the domain is 1:1 mapped, and then simplifying the remaining code to only cater for the x86 case with DMA coherent device. 2022-04-18swiotlb: merge swiotlb-xen initialization into swiotlbChristoph Hellwig1-10/+11
Reuse the generic swiotlb initialization for xen-swiotlb. For ARM/ARM64 this works trivially, while for x86 xen_swiotlb_fixup needs to be passed as the remap argument to swiotlb_init_remap/swiotlb_init_late. Note that the lower bound of the swiotlb size is changed to the smaller IO_TLB_MIN_SLABS based value with this patch, but that is fine as the 2MB value used in Xen before was just an optimization and is not the hard lower bound. 2022-04-18arm/xen: don't check for xen_initial_domain() in xen_create_contiguous_regionStefano Stabellini1-4/+1
It used to be that Linux enabled swiotlb-xen when running a dom0 on ARM. Since f5079a9a2a31 "xen/arm: introduce XENFEAT_direct_mapped and XENFEAT_not_direct_mapped", Linux detects whether to enable or disable swiotlb-xen based on the new feature flags: XENFEAT_direct_mapped and XENFEAT_not_direct_mapped. However, there is still a leftover xen_initial_domain() check in xen_create_contiguous_region. Remove the check as xen_create_contiguous_region is only called by swiotlb-xen during initialization. If xen_create_contiguous_region is called, we know Linux is running 1:1 mapped so there is no need for additional checks. Also update the in-code comment. 2022-01-06arm/xen: Read extended regions from DT and init Xen resourceOleksandr Tyshchenko1-0/+106
This patch implements arch_xen_unpopulated_init() on Arm where the extended regions (if any) are gathered from DT and inserted into specific Xen resource to be used as unused address space for Xen scratch pages by unpopulated-alloc code. The extended region (safe range) is a region of guest physical address space which is unused and could be safely used to create grant/foreign mappings instead of wasting real RAM pages from the domain memory for establishing these mappings. The extended regions are chosen by the hypervisor at the domain creation time and advertised to it via "reg" property under hypervisor node in the guest device-tree. As region 0 is reserved for grant table space (always present), the indexes for extended regions are 1...N. If arch_xen_unpopulated_init() fails for some reason the default behaviour will be restored (allocate xenballooned pages). This patch also removes XEN_UNPOPULATED_ALLOC dependency on x86. 2022-01-06arm/xen: Switch to use gnttab_setup_auto_xlat_frames() for DTOleksandr Tyshchenko1-6/+20
Read the start address of the grant table space from DT (region 0). This patch mostly restores behaviour before commit 3cf4095d7446 ("arm/xen: Use xen_xlate_map_ballooned_pages to setup grant table") but trying not to break the ACPI support added after that commit. So the patch touches DT part only and leaves the ACPI part with xen_xlate_map_ballooned_pages(). Also in order to make a code more resilient use a fallback to xen_xlate_map_ballooned_pages() if grant table region wasn't found. This is a preparation for using Xen extended region feature where unused regions of guest physical address space (provided by the hypervisor) will be used to create grant/foreign/whatever mappings instead of wasting real RAM pages from the domain memory for establishing these mappings. The immediate benefit of this change: - Avoid superpage shattering in Xen P2M when establishing stage-2 mapping (GFN <-> MFN) for the grant table space - Avoid wasting real RAM pages (reducing the amount of memory usuable) for mapping grant table space - The grant table space is always mapped at the exact same place (region 0 is reserved for the grant table) Signed-off-by: Oleksandr Tyshchenko <oleksandr_tyshchenko@epam.com> Reviewed-by: Stefano Stabellini <sstabellini@kernel.org> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/1639080336-26573-3-git-send-email-olekstysh@gmail.com Signed-off-by: Juergen Gross <jgross@suse.com>

Therefore, the call in xen_guest_init() is now removed. After this change, there is no more external caller for xenbus_probe(). So the function is turned to a static one. 2021-01-13xen: Fix event channel callback via INTX/GSIDavid Woodhouse1-1/+1
For a while, event channel notification via the PCI platform device has been broken, because we attempt to communicate with xenstore before we even have notifications working, with the xs_reset_watches() call in xs_init(). We tend to get away with this on Xen versions below 4.0 because we avoid calling xs_reset_watches() anyway, because xenstore might not cope with reading a non-existent key. And newer Xen *does* have the vector callback support, so we rarely fall back to INTX/GSI delivery. To fix it, clean up a bit of the mess of xs_init() and xenbus_probe() startup. Call xs_init() directly from xenbus_init() only in the !XS_HVM case, deferring it to be called from xenbus_probe() in the XS_HVM case instead. Then fix up the invocation of xenbus_probe() to happen either from its device_initcall if the callback is available early enough, or when the callback is finally set up. This means that the hack of calling xenbus_probe() from a workqueue after the first interrupt, or directly from the PCI platform device setup, is no longer needed. 2020-10-07arm/arm64: xen: Fix to convert percpu address to gfn correctlyMasami Hiramatsu1-1/+1
Use per_cpu_ptr_to_phys() instead of virt_to_phys() for per-cpu address conversion. In xen_starting_cpu(), per-cpu xen_vcpu_info address is converted to gfn by virt_to_gfn() macro. However, since the virt_to_gfn(v) assumes the given virtual address is in linear mapped kernel memory area, it can not convert the per-cpu memory if it is allocated on vmalloc area. This depends on CONFIG_NEED_PER_CPU_EMBED_FIRST_CHUNK. If it is enabled, the first chunk of percpu memory is linear mapped. In the other case, that is allocated from vmalloc area. Moreover, if the first chunk of percpu has run out until allocating xen_vcpu_info, it will be allocated on the 2nd chunk, which is based on kernel memory or vmalloc memory (depends on CONFIG_NEED_PER_CPU_KM). Without this fix and kernel configured to use vmalloc area for the percpu memory, the Dom0 kernel will fail to boot with following errors. 2020-10-05xen/arm: do not setup the runstate info page if kpti is enabledStefano Stabellini1-2/+4
The VCPUOP_register_runstate_memory_area hypercall takes a virtual address of a buffer as a parameter. The semantics of the hypercall are such that the virtual address should always be valid. When KPTI is enabled and we are running userspace code, the virtual address is not valid, thus, Linux is violating the semantics of VCPUOP_register_runstate_memory_area. xen_dma_sync_for_cpu, xen_dma_sync_for_device, xen_arch_need_swiotlb are getting called passing dma addresses. On some platforms dma addresses could be different from physical addresses. Today the EFI runtime functions are setup in architecture specific code (x86 and arm), with the functions themselves living in drivers/xen as they are not architecture dependent. As the setup is exactly the same for arm and x86 move the setup to drivers/xen, too. This at once removes the need to make the single functions global visible. arm64 shares some code under arch/arm/xen, including mm.c. However ZONE_DMA is removed by commit ad67f5a6545("arm64: replace ZONE_DMA with ZONE_DMA32"). So add a check if CONFIG_ZONE_DMA32 is enabled use __GFP_DMA32. 2019-10-01ARM: xen: unexport HYPERVISOR_platform_op functionStefano Stabellini1-1/+1
HYPERVISOR_platform_op() is an inline function and should not be exported. Since commit 15bfc2348d54 ("modpost: check for static EXPORT_SYMBOL* functions"), this causes a warning: WARNING: "HYPERVISOR_platform_op" [vmlinux] is a static EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL Instead, export the underlying function called by the static inline: HYPERVISOR_platform_op_raw. 2019-10-01xen/efi: Set nonblocking callbacksRoss Lagerwall1-0/+2
Other parts of the kernel expect these nonblocking EFI callbacks to exist and crash when running under Xen. Since the implementations of xen_efi_set_variable() and xen_efi_query_variable_info() do not take any locks, use them for the nonblocking callbacks too. 2019-09-11swiotlb-xen: simplify cache maintainanceChristoph Hellwig1-47/+17
Now that we know we always have the dma-noncoherent.h helpers available if we are on an architecture with support for non-coherent devices, we can just call them directly, and remove the calls to the dma-direct routines, including the fact that we call the dma_direct_map_page routines but ignore the value returned from it. Instead we now have Xen wrappers for the arch_sync_dma_for_{device,cpu} helpers that call the special Xen versions of those routines for foreign pages. Note that the new helpers get the physical address passed in addition to the dma address to avoid another translation for the local cache maintainance. The pfn_valid checks remain on the dma address as in the old code, even if that looks a little funny.
