2024-03-06arch: define CONFIG_PAGE_SIZE_*KB on all architecturesArnd Bergmann1-0/+1
Most architectures only support a single hardcoded page size. In order to ensure that each one of these sets the corresponding Kconfig symbols, change over the PAGE_SHIFT definition to the common one and allow only the hardware page size to be selected. 2023-04-05Kconfig: introduce HAS_IOPORT option and select it as necessaryNiklas Schnelle1-0/+1
We introduce a new HAS_IOPORT Kconfig option to indicate support for I/O Port access. In a future patch HAS_IOPORT=n will disable compilation of the I/O accessor functions inb()/outb() and friends on architectures which can not meaningfully support legacy I/O spaces such as s390. The following architectures do not select HAS_IOPORT: * ARC * C-SKY * Hexagon * Nios II * OpenRISC * s390 * User-Mode Linux * Xtensa All other architectures select HAS_IOPORT at least conditionally. The "depends on" relations on HAS_IOPORT in drivers as well as ifdefs for HAS_IOPORT specific sections will be added in subsequent patches on a per subsystem basis. 2022-09-26microblaze: Add xmb_manager_register functionAppana Durga Kedareswara rao1-0/+10
Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) Microblaze solution provides soft error injection, detection, correction and recovery for Microblaze cores in the system. The Xilinx/AMD Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) solution in Vivado provides all the necessary building blocks to implement a redundant triplicated MicroBlaze subsystem. This processing subsystem is fault-tolerant and continues to operate nominally after encountering an error. Together with the capability to detect and recover from errors, the implementation ensures the reliability of the entire subsystem. When the break vector gets asserted because of error injection, the break signal must be blocked before exiting from the break handler, This commit adds support for xmb_manager_register api which updates the TMR manager address and control register and error count and reset callback function arguments, which will be used by the break handler to block the break and call the error count callback function and reset callback function. 2022-06-28arch/*/: remove CONFIG_VIRT_TO_BUSArnd Bergmann1-1/+0
All architecture-independent users of virt_to_bus() and bus_to_virt() have been fixed to use the dma mapping interfaces or have been removed now. This means the definitions on most architectures, and the CONFIG_VIRT_TO_BUS symbol are now obsolete and can be removed. The only exceptions to this are a few network and scsi drivers for m68k Amiga and VME machines and ppc32 Macintosh. These drivers work correctly with the old interfaces and are probably not worth changing. On alpha and parisc, virt_to_bus() were still used in asm/floppy.h. alpha can use isa_virt_to_bus() like x86 does, and parisc can just open-code the virt_to_phys() here, as this is architecture specific code. I tried updating the bus-virt-phys-mapping.rst documentation, which started as an email from Linus to explain some details of the Linux-2.0 driver interfaces. The bits about virt_to_bus() were declared obsolete backin 2000, and the rest is not all that relevant any more, so in the end I just decided to remove the file completely. 2020-10-30timekeeping: default GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS to enabledArnd Bergmann1-1/+0
Almost all machines use GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS, so it feels wrong to require each one to select that symbol manually. Instead, enable it whenever CONFIG_LEGACY_TIMER_TICK is disabled as a simplification. It should be possible to select both GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS and LEGACY_TIMER_TICK from an architecture now and decide at runtime between the two. For the clockevents arch-support.txt file, this means that additional architectures are marked as TODO when they have at least one machine that still uses LEGACY_TIMER_TICK, rather than being marked 'ok' when at least one machine has been converted. This means that both m68k and arm (for riscpc) revert to TODO. At this point, we could just always enable CONFIG_GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS rather than leaving it off when not needed. I built an m68k defconfig kernel (using gcc-10.1.0) and found that this would add around 5.5KB in kernel image size: text data bss dec hex filename 3861936 1092236 196656 5150828 4e986c obj-m68k/vmlinux-no-clockevent 3866201 1093832 196184 5156217 4ead79 obj-m68k/vmlinux-clockevent On Arm (MACH_RPC), that difference appears to be twice as large, around 11KB on top of an 6MB vmlinux. 2020-10-08seccomp: Move config option SECCOMP to arch/KconfigYiFei Zhu1-17/+1
In order to make adding configurable features into seccomp easier, it's better to have the options at one single location, considering especially that the bulk of seccomp code is arch-independent. An quick look also show that many SECCOMP descriptions are outdated; they talk about /proc rather than prctl. As a result of moving the config option and keeping it default on, architectures arm, arm64, csky, riscv, sh, and xtensa did not have SECCOMP on by default prior to this and SECCOMP will be default in this change. 2020-06-04mm: remove CONFIG_HAVE_MEMBLOCK_NODE_MAP optionMike Rapoport1-1/+0
CONFIG_HAVE_MEMBLOCK_NODE_MAP is used to differentiate initialization of nodes and zones structures between the systems that have region to node mapping in memblock and those that don't. Currently all the NUMA architectures enable this option and for the non-NUMA systems we can presume that all the memory belongs to node 0 and therefore the compile time configuration option is not required. The remaining few architectures that use DISCONTIGMEM without NUMA are easily updated to use memblock_add_node() instead of memblock_add() and thus have proper correspondence of memblock regions to NUMA nodes. Still, free_area_init_node() must have a backward compatible version because its semantics with and without CONFIG_HAVE_MEMBLOCK_NODE_MAP is different. Once all the architectures will use the new semantics, the entire compatibility layer can be dropped. To avoid addition of extra run time memory to store node id for architectures that keep memblock but have only a single node, the node id field of the memblock_region is guarded by CONFIG_NEED_MULTIPLE_NODES and the corresponding accessors presume that in those cases it is always 0. 2020-03-22irqchip/xilinx: Enable generic irq multi handlerMichal Simek1-0/+2
Register default arch handler via driver instead of directly pointing to xilinx intc controller. This patch makes architecture code more generic. Driver calls generic domain specific irq handler which does the most of things self. Also get rid of concurrent_irq counting which hasn't been exported anywhere. Based on this loop was also optimized by using do/while loop instead of goto loop. 2019-11-11dma-direct: provide mmap and get_sgtable method overridesChristoph Hellwig1-1/+0
For dma-direct we know that the DMA address is an encoding of the physical address that we can trivially decode. Use that fact to provide implementations that do not need the arch_dma_coherent_to_pfn architecture hook. Note that we still can only support mmap of non-coherent memory only if the architecture provides a way to set an uncached bit in the page tables. 2019-04-03locking/rwsem: Remove rwsem-spinlock.c & use rwsem-xadd.c for all archsWaiman Long1-6/+0
Currently, we have two different implementation of rwsem: 1) CONFIG_RWSEM_GENERIC_SPINLOCK (rwsem-spinlock.c) 2) CONFIG_RWSEM_XCHGADD_ALGORITHM (rwsem-xadd.c) As we are going to use a single generic implementation for rwsem-xadd.c and no architecture-specific code will be needed, there is no point in keeping two different implementations of rwsem. In most cases, the performance of rwsem-spinlock.c will be worse. It also doesn't get all the performance tuning and optimizations that had been implemented in rwsem-xadd.c over the years. For simplication, we are going to remove rwsem-spinlock.c and make all architectures use a single implementation of rwsem - rwsem-xadd.c. All references to RWSEM_GENERIC_SPINLOCK and RWSEM_XCHGADD_ALGORITHM in the code are removed. 2019-04-03arch/tlb: Clean up simple architecturesPeter Zijlstra1-0/+1
For the architectures that do not implement their own tlb_flush() but do already use the generic mmu_gather, there are two options: 1) the platform has an efficient flush_tlb_range() and asm-generic/tlb.h doesn't need any overrides at all. 2) the platform lacks an efficient flush_tlb_range() and we select MMU_GATHER_NO_RANGE to minimize full invalidates. Convert all 'simple' architectures to one of these two forms. alpha: has no range invalidate -> 2 arc: already used flush_tlb_range() -> 1 c6x: has no range invalidate -> 2 hexagon: has an efficient flush_tlb_range() -> 1 (flush_tlb_mm() is in fact a full range invalidate, so no need to shoot down everything) m68k: has inefficient flush_tlb_range() -> 2 microblaze: has no flush_tlb_range() -> 2 mips: has efficient flush_tlb_range() -> 1 (even though it currently seems to use flush_tlb_mm()) nds32: already uses flush_tlb_range() -> 1 nios2: has inefficient flush_tlb_range() -> 2 (no limit on range iteration) openrisc: has inefficient flush_tlb_range() -> 2 (no limit on range iteration) parisc: already uses flush_tlb_range() -> 1 sparc32: already uses flush_tlb_range() -> 1 unicore32: has inefficient flush_tlb_range() -> 2 (no limit on range iteration) xtensa: has efficient flush_tlb_range() -> 1 Note this also fixes a bug in the existing code for a number platforms. Those platforms that did: tlb_end_vma() -> if (!full_mm) flush_tlb_*() tlb_flush -> if (full_mm) flush_tlb_mm() missed the case of shift_arg_pages(), which doesn't have @fullmm set, nor calls into tlb_*vma(), but still frees page-tables and thus needs an invalidate. The new code handles this by detecting a non-empty range, and either issuing the matching range invalidate or a full invalidate, depending on the capabilities. No change in behavior intended. 2019-02-1932-bit userspace ABI: introduce ARCH_32BIT_OFF_T config optionYury Norov1-0/+1
All new 32-bit architectures should have 64-bit userspace off_t type, but existing architectures has 32-bit ones. To enforce the rule, new config option is added to arch/Kconfig that defaults ARCH_32BIT_OFF_T to be disabled for new 32-bit architectures. All existing 32-bit architectures enable it explicitly. New option affects force_o_largefile() behaviour. Namely, if userspace off_t is 64-bits long, we have no reason to reject user to open big files. Note that even if architectures has only 64-bit off_t in the kernel (arc, c6x, h8300, hexagon, nios2, openrisc, and unicore32), a libc may use 32-bit off_t, and therefore want to limit the file size to 4GB unless specified differently in the open flags. This is a minor hardship for some powerpc and arm configs that don't pull it in yet (although they should in a relase ot two), and sparc64 which currently doesn't need it at all, but it will reduce the ifdef mess we'd otherwise need significantly.
