2018-12-13dma-direct: merge swiotlb_dma_ops into the dma_direct codeChristoph Hellwig1-2/+0
While the dma-direct code is (relatively) clean and simple we actually have to use the swiotlb ops for the mapping on many architectures due to devices with addressing limits. Instead of keeping two implementations around this commit allows the dma-direct implementation to call the swiotlb bounce buffering functions and thus share the guts of the mapping implementation. This also simplified the dma-mapping setup on a few architectures where we don't have to differenciate which implementation to use. 2018-07-28MIPS: remove mips_swiotlb_opsChristoph Hellwig1-2/+3
mips_swiotlb_ops differs from the generic swiotlb_dma_ops only in that it contains a mb() barrier after each operations that maps or syncs dma memory to the device. The dma operations are defined to not be memory barriers, but instead the write* operations to kick the DMA off are supposed to contain them. For mips this handled by war_io_reorder_wmb(), which evaluates to the stronger wmb() instead of the pure compiler barrier barrier() for just those platforms that use swiotlb, so I think we are covered properly. 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman1-0/+1
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. 2016-10-06MIPS: Support per-device DMA coherencePaul Burton1-0/+10
On some MIPS systems, a subset of devices may have DMA coherent with CPU caches. For example in systems including a MIPS I/O Coherence Unit (IOCU), some devices may be connected to that IOCU whilst others are not. Prior to this patch, we have a plat_device_is_coherent() function but no implementation which does anything besides return a global true or false, optionally chosen at runtime. For devices such as those described above this is insufficient. Fix this by tracking DMA coherence on a per-device basis with a dma_coherent field in struct dev_archdata. Setting this from arch_setup_dma_ops() takes care of devices which set the dma-coherent property via device tree, and any PCI devices beneath a bridge described in DT, automatically. Some architectures used to only call ->set_dma_mask after the initial checks, and those instance have been fixed to do the full work. h8300 implemented dma_set_mask bogusly as a no-ops and has been fixed. Unfortunately some architectures overload unrelated semantics like changing the dma_ops into it so we still need to allow for an architecture override for now. 2015-09-10dma-mapping: consolidate dma_supportedChristoph Hellwig1-6/+0
Most architectures just call into ->dma_supported, but some also return 1 if the method is not present, or 0 if no dma ops are present (although that should never happeb). Consolidate this more broad version into common code. Also fix h8300 which inorrectly always returned 0, which would have been a problem if it's dma_set_mask implementation wasn't a similarly buggy noop. As a few architectures have much more elaborate implementations, we still allow for arch overrides. 2015-09-10dma-mapping: consolidate dma_{alloc,free}_noncoherentChristoph Hellwig1-6/+0
Most architectures do not support non-coherent allocations and either define dma_{alloc,free}_noncoherent to their coherent versions or stub them out. Openrisc uses dma_{alloc,free}_attrs to implement them, and only Mips implements them directly. This patch moves the Openrisc version to common code, and handles the DMA_ATTR_NON_CONSISTENT case in the mips dma_map_ops instance. Note that actual non-coherent allocations require a dma_cache_sync implementation, so if non-coherent allocations didn't work on an architecture before this patch they still won't work after it. 2015-09-10dma-mapping: consolidate dma_{alloc,free}_{attrs,coherent}Christoph Hellwig1-31/+0
Since 2009 we have a nice asm-generic header implementing lots of DMA API functions for architectures using struct dma_map_ops, but unfortunately it's still missing a lot of APIs that all architectures still have to duplicate. This series consolidates the remaining functions, although we still need arch opt outs for two of them as a few architectures have very non-standard implementations. This patch (of 5): The coherent DMA allocator works the same over all architectures supporting dma_map operations. This patch consolidates them and converges the minor differences: - the debug_dma helpers are now called from all architectures, including those that were previously missing them - dma_alloc_from_coherent and dma_release_from_coherent are now always called from the generic alloc/free routines instead of the ops dma-mapping-common.h always includes dma-coherent.h to get the defintions for them, or the stubs if the architecture doesn't support this feature - checks for ->alloc / ->free presence are removed. There is only one magic instead of dma_map_ops without them (mic_dma_ops) and that one is x86 only anyway. Besides that only x86 needs special treatment to replace a default devices if none is passed and tweak the gfp_flags. An optional arch hook is provided for that. 2014-03-31MIPS: Loongson: Add swiotlb to support All-Memory DMAHuacai Chen1-0/+5
Loongson doesn't support DMA address above 4GB traditionally. If memory is more than 4GB, CONFIG_SWIOTLB and ZONE_DMA32 should be selected. In this way, DMA pages are allocated below 4GB preferably. However, if low memory is not enough, high pages are allocated and swiotlb is used for bouncing. Moreover, we provide a platform-specific dma_map_ops::set_dma_mask() to set a device's dma_mask and coherent_dma_mask. We use these masks to distinguishes an allocated page can be used for DMA directly, or need swiotlb to bounce. Recently, we found that 32-bit DMA isn't a hardware bug, but a hardware configuration issue. So, latest firmware has enable the DMA support as high as 40-bit. To support all-memory DMA for all devices (besides the Loongson platform limit, there are still some devices have their own DMA32 limit), and also to be compatible with old firmware, we keep use swiotlb. 2010-08-11dma-mapping: remove dma_is_consistent APIFUJITA Tomonori1-2/+0
Architectures implement dma_is_consistent() in different ways (some misinterpret the definition of API in DMA-API.txt). So it hasn't been so useful for drivers. We have only one user of the API in tree. Unlikely out-of-tree drivers use the API. Even if we fix dma_is_consistent() in some architectures, it doesn't look useful at all. It was invented long ago for some old systems that can't allocate coherent memory at all. It's better to export only APIs that are definitely necessary for drivers. Let's remove this API. 2010-08-11dma-mapping: unify dma_get_cache_alignment implementationsFUJITA Tomonori1-7/+0
dma_get_cache_alignment returns the minimum DMA alignment. Architectures defines it as ARCH_DMA_MINALIGN (formally ARCH_KMALLOC_MINALIGN). So we can unify dma_get_cache_alignment implementations.
