2023-09-19powerpc/configs: Remove ReiserFS from defconfigPeter Lafreniere1-1/+0
ReiserFS has been deprecated for a year and a half, yet is still built as part of a defconfig kernel. According to commit eb103a51640e ("reiserfs: Deprecate reiserfs"), the filesystem is slated to be removed in 2025. Remove it from the defconfig profiles now, as part of its deprecation process. 2023-07-30arch/*/configs/*defconfig: Replace AUTOFS4_FS by AUTOFS_FSSven Joachim1-1/+1
Commit a2225d931f75 ("autofs: remove left-over autofs4 stubs") promised the removal of the fs/autofs/Kconfig fragment for AUTOFS4_FS within a couple of releases, but five years later this still has not happened yet, and AUTOFS4_FS is still enabled in 63 defconfigs. Get rid of it mechanically: git grep -l CONFIG_AUTOFS4_FS -- '*defconfig' | xargs sed -i 's/AUTOFS4_FS/AUTOFS_FS/' Also just remove the AUTOFS4_FS config option stub. Anybody who hasn't regenerated their config file in the last five years will need to just get the new name right when they do. 2022-06-29powerpc: Restore CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO in defconfigsChristophe Leroy5-5/+5
Commit f9b3cd245784 ("Kconfig.debug: make DEBUG_INFO selectable from a choice") broke the selection of CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO by powerpc defconfigs. It is now necessary to select one of the three DEBUG_INFO_DWARF* options to get DEBUG_INFO enabled. Replace DEBUG_INFO=y by DEBUG_INFO_DWARF_TOOLCHAIN_DEFAULT=y in all defconfigs using the following command: sed -i s/DEBUG_INFO=y/DEBUG_INFO_DWARF_TOOLCHAIN_DEFAULT=y/g `git grep -l DEBUG_INFO arch/powerpc/configs/` Fixes: f9b3cd245784 ("Kconfig.debug: make DEBUG_INFO selectable from a choice") Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org Signed-off-by: Christophe Leroy <christophe.leroy@csgroup.eu> Reviewed-by: Kees Cook <keescook@chromium.org> Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/98a4c2603bf9e4b776e219f5b8541d23aa24e854.1654930308.git.christophe.leroy@csgroup.eu

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/powerpc/linux Pull powerpc updates from Michael Ellerman: - A large series adding wrappers for our interrupt handlers, so that irq/nmi/user tracking can be isolated in the wrappers rather than spread in each handler. - Conversion of the 32-bit syscall handling into C. - A series from Nick to streamline our TLB flushing when using the Radix MMU. - Switch to using queued spinlocks by default for 64-bit server CPUs. - A rework of our PCI probing so that it happens later in boot, when more generic infrastructure is available. - Two small fixes to allow 32-bit little-endian processes to run on 64-bit kernels. - Other smaller features, fixes & cleanups. 2021-02-08powerpc/akebono: Fix unmet dependency errorsMichael Ellerman1-0/+5
The AKEBONO config has various selects under it, including some with user-selectable dependencies, which means those dependencies can be disabled. This leads to warnings from Kconfig. This can be seen with eg: $ make allnoconfig $ ./scripts/config --file build~/.config -k -e CONFIG_44x -k -e CONFIG_PPC_47x -e CONFIG_AKEBONO $ make olddefconfig WARNING: unmet direct dependencies detected for ATA Depends on [n]: HAS_IOMEM [=y] && BLOCK [=n] Selected by [y]: - AKEBONO [=y] && PPC_47x [=y] WARNING: unmet direct dependencies detected for NETDEVICES Depends on [n]: NET [=n] Selected by [y]: - AKEBONO [=y] && PPC_47x [=y] WARNING: unmet direct dependencies detected for ETHERNET Depends on [n]: NETDEVICES [=y] && NET [=n] Selected by [y]: - AKEBONO [=y] && PPC_47x [=y] WARNING: unmet direct dependencies detected for MMC_SDHCI Depends on [n]: MMC [=n] && HAS_DMA [=y] Selected by [y]: - AKEBONO [=y] && PPC_47x [=y] WARNING: unmet direct dependencies detected for MMC_SDHCI_PLTFM Depends on [n]: MMC [=n] && MMC_SDHCI [=y] Selected by [y]: - AKEBONO [=y] && PPC_47x [=y] The problem is that AKEBONO is using select to enable things that are not true dependencies, but rather things you probably want enabled in an AKEBONO kernel. That is what a defconfig is for. So drop those selects and instead move those symbols into the defconfig. This fixes all the kconfig warnings, and the result of make 44x/akebono_defconfig is the same before and after the patch. 2021-01-29arch: powerpc: Stop building and using oprofileViresh Kumar4-4/+0
The "oprofile" user-space tools don't use the kernel OPROFILE support any more, and haven't in a long time. User-space has been converted to the perf interfaces. This commits stops building oprofile for powerpc and removes any reference to it from directories in arch/powerpc/ apart from arch/powerpc/oprofile, which will be removed in the next commit (this is broken into two commits as the size of the commit became very big, ~5k lines). Note that the member "oprofile_cpu_type" in "struct cpu_spec" isn't removed as it was also used by other parts of the code. In commit 961518259b3b ("rcu: Enable RCU tracepoints by default to aid in debugging"), CONFIG_RCU_TRACE was made default y (if CONFIG_TREE_RCU=y, which it is for some of our configs). That in turn causes CONFIG_TREE_RCU_TRACE to be enabled, which selects CONFIG_DEBUG_FS. The end result is that CONFIG_DEBUG_FS is forced on, meaning we don't have to enable it in some of our configs. 2014-06-11Merge branch 'next' of ↵Linus Torvalds1-0/+148
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/benh/powerpc Pull powerpc updates from Ben Herrenschmidt: "Here is the bulk of the powerpc changes for this merge window. It got a bit delayed in part because I wasn't paying attention, and in part because I discovered I had a core PCI change without a PCI maintainer ack in it. Bjorn eventually agreed it was ok to merge it though we'll probably improve it later and I didn't want to rebase to add his ack. There is going to be a bit more next week, essentially fixes that I still want to sort through and test. The biggest item this time is the support to build the ppc64 LE kernel with our new v2 ABI. We previously supported v2 userspace but the kernel itself was a tougher nut to crack. This is now sorted mostly thanks to Anton and Rusty. We also have a fairly big series from Cedric that add support for 64-bit LE zImage boot wrapper. This was made harder by the fact that traditionally our zImage wrapper was always 32-bit, but our new LE toolchains don't really support 32-bit anymore (it's somewhat there but not really "supported") so we didn't want to rely on it. This meant more churn that just endian fixes. This brings some more LE bits as well, such as the ability to run in LE mode without a hypervisor (ie. under OPAL firmware) by doing the right OPAL call to reinitialize the CPU to take HV interrupts in the right mode and the usual pile of endian fixes. There's another series from Gavin adding EEH improvements (one day we *will* have a release with less than 20 EEH patches, I promise!). Another highlight is the support for the "Split core" functionality on P8 by Michael. This allows a P8 core to be split into "sub cores" of 4 threads which allows the subcores to run different guests under KVM (the HW still doesn't support a partition per thread). And then the usual misc bits and fixes ..." [ Further delayed by gmail deciding that BenH is a dirty spammer. 2011-12-20powerpc: Rename mapping based RELOCATABLE to DYNAMIC_MEMSTART for BookESuzuki Poulose1-1/+2
The current implementation of CONFIG_RELOCATABLE in BookE is based on mapping the page aligned kernel load address to KERNELBASE. This approach however is not enough for platforms, where the TLB page size is large (e.g, 256M on 44x). So we are renaming the RELOCATABLE used currently in BookE to DYNAMIC_MEMSTART to reflect the actual method. The CONFIG_RELOCATABLE for PPC32(BookE) based on processing of the dynamic relocations will be introduced in the later in the patch series. This change would allow the use of the old method of RELOCATABLE for platforms which can afford to enforce the page alignment (platforms with smaller TLB size). In commit 9aa3283595451ca093500ff0977b106e1f465586 (ehea/ibm*: Move the IBM drivers) the IBM_NEW_EMAC* were renames to IBM_EMAC* The conversion was incomplete so that even if the driver was added to the .config it wasn't built, but there were no errors). In this commit we also update the various defconfigs that use EMAC to use the new Kconfig symbol, and explicitly add the NET_VENDOR_IBM guard. We do not explicitly select the Kconfig dependencies, as this would force EMAC on. Doing it in the defconfig allows more flexibility. Tested on a canyondlands board. 2011-07-12powerpc/47x: allow kernel to be loaded in higher physical memoryDave Kleikamp1-3/+3
The 44x code (which is shared by 47x) assumes the available physical memory begins at 0x00000000. This is not necessarily the case in an AMP environment. Support CONFIG_RELOCATABLE for 476 in order to allow the kernel to be loaded into a higher memory range. 2011-03-30powerpc: Restore some misc devices to our configsStephen Rothwell1-0/+1
Uwe Kleine-König reported: while working on an defconfig (arm/mx27) I noticed that just updating it[1] results in removing CONFIG_EEPROM_AT24=y. The reason is that since commit v2.6.36-5965-g5f2365d (misc devices: do not enable by default) MISC_DEVICES isn't enabled anymore by default. So all defconfigs that have CONFIG_SOME_SYMBOL=y (or =m) (with SOME_SYMBOL depending on MISC_DEVICES) but not CONFIG_MISC_DEVICES=y suffer from the same problem. This restores those misc devices to the powerpc defconfigs. 2011-01-21kconfig: rename CONFIG_EMBEDDED to CONFIG_EXPERTDavid Rientjes15-15/+15
The meaning of CONFIG_EMBEDDED has long since been obsoleted; the option is used to configure any non-standard kernel with a much larger scope than only small devices. This patch renames the option to CONFIG_EXPERT in init/Kconfig and fixes references to the option throughout the kernel. A new CONFIG_EMBEDDED option is added that automatically selects CONFIG_EXPERT when enabled and can be used in the future to isolate options that should only be considered for embedded systems (RISC architectures, SLOB, etc). Calling the option "EXPERT" more accurately represents its intention: only expert users who understand the impact of the configuration changes they are making should enable it.
