2021-12-27ACPICA: Use original data_table_region pointer for accessesJessica Clarke1-0/+1
ACPICA commit d9eb82bd7515989f0b29d79deeeb758db4d6529c Currently the pointer to the table is cast to acpi_physical_address and later cast back to a pointer to be dereferenced. Whether or not this is supported is implementation-defined. On CHERI, and thus Arm's experimental Morello prototype architecture, pointers are represented as capabilities, which are unforgeable bounded pointers, providing always-on fine-grained spatial memory safety. This means that any pointer cast to a plain integer will lose all its associated metadata, and when cast back to a pointer it will give a null-derived pointer (one that has the same metadata as null but an address equal to the integer) that will trap on any dereference. As a result, this is an implementation where acpi_physical_address cannot be used as a hack to store real pointers. Thus, add a new field to struct acpi_object_region to store the pointer for table regions, and propagate it to acpi_ex_data_table_space_handler via the region context, to use a more portable implementation that supports CHERI. 2019-12-20ACPICA: Dispatcher: always generate buffer objects for ASL create_field() ↵Maximilian Luz1-0/+2
operator ACPICA commit 79a466b64e6af36cc83102f05915e56cb7dd89ab According to table 19-419 of the ACPI 6.3 specification, buffer_fields created using the ASL create_field() Operator have been treated as integers if the buffer_field is small enough to fit inside of an ASL integer (32-bits or 64-bits depending on the definition block revision). If they are larger, buffer fields are treated as ASL Buffer objects. However, this is not true for other AML interpreter implementations. It has been discovered that other AML interpreters always treat buffer fields created by create_field() as a buffer regardless of the length of the buffer field. More specifically, the Microsoft AML interpreter always treats buffer fields created by the create_field() operator as buffer. ACPICA currently does this only when the field size is larger than the maximum integer width. This causes problems with AML code shipped in Microsoft Surface devices. More details: The control methods in these devices determine the success of an ASL control method execution by examining the type resulting from storing a buffer field created by a create_field() operator. On success, a Buffer object is expected, on failure an Integer containing an error code. This buffer object is created with a dynamic size via the create_field() operator. Due to the difference in behavior, Buffer values of small size are however converted to Integers and thus interpreted by the control method as having failed, whereas in reality it succeeded. Below is an example of a control method called TEST that illustrates this behavior. This omission is problematic because the OS queries the global list to check for address range conflicts before deciding which drivers to load. ACPICA commit 543342ab7a676f4eb0c9f100d349388a84dff0e8 This patch changes acpi_ev_initialize_region(), stop returning AE_NOT_EXIST from it so that, not only in acpi_ds_load2_end_op(), but all places invoking this function won't emit exceptions. The exception can be seen in acpi_ds_initialize_objects() when certain table loading mode is chosen. This patch also removes useless acpi_ns_locked from acpi_ev_initialize_region() as this function will always be invoked with interpreter lock held now, and the lock granularity has been tuned to lock around _REG execution, thus it is now handled by acpi_ex_exit_interpreter(). 2013-01-10ACPICA: Cleanup updated comments.Lv Zheng1-7/+7
This is a cosmetic patch only. Comparison of the resulting binary showed only line number differences. This patch does not affect the generation of the Linux binary. This patch decreases 558 lines of 20121018 divergence.diff. This patch reduces the source code diff between Linux and ACPICA by cleaning the comments that already have been updated in ACPICA. There is no extra indentation done in this patch. Even the empty line deletions and insertions are also splitted into another cleanup patch so that this patch can be easily reviewed, and the binary differences can be held to a lowest level. 2012-11-15ACPICA: Fix indent caused divergences.Lv Zheng1-1/+2
New version of "indent" program will generate different outputs that will lead to the divergences between the Linux and the ACPICA. This patch fixes such divergences caused by the "indent" program. The version of the "indent" used for this patch is "GNU indent 2.2.11". This patch will not affect the generated vmlinux binary. This will decrease 581 lines of 20120913 divergence.diff. 2010-07-07ACPICA: Performance enhancement for namespace search and accessAlexey Starikovskiy1-3/+3
This change enhances the performance of namespace searches and walks by adding a backpointer to the parent in each namespace node. On large namespaces, this change can improve overall ACPI performance by up to 9X. Adding a pointer to each namespace node increases the overall size of the internal namespace by about 5%, since each namespace entry usually consists of both a namespace node and an ACPI operand object. Remove all instances of this obsolete macro, since it is now a simple reference to ->common.type. There were about 150 invocations of the macro across 41 files.
