2023-10-06ACPI: bus: Add context argument to acpi_dev_install_notify_handler()Rafael J. Wysocki1-1/+1
Add void *context arrgument to the list of arguments of acpi_dev_install_notify_handler() and modify it to pass that argument as context to acpi_install_notify_handler() instead of its first argument which is problematic in general (for example, if platform drivers used it, they would rather get struct platform_device pointers or pointers to their private data from the context arguments of their notify handlers). Make all of the current callers of acpi_dev_install_notify_handler() take this change into account so as to avoid altering the general functionality. 2023-07-14ACPI: HED: Install Notify() handler directlyMichal Wilczynski1-3/+12
Modify the ACPI HED driver to install its own Notify() handler directly instead of providing an ACPI driver .notify() callback. This will allow the ACPI driver .notify() callback to be eliminated and it will allow the HED driver to be switched over to a platform one in the future. Suggested-by: Rafael J. 2022-11-23ACPI: make remove callback of ACPI driver voidDawei Li1-2/+1
For bus-based driver, device removal is implemented as: 1 device_remove()-> 2 bus->remove()-> 3 driver->remove() Driver core needs no inform from callee(bus driver) about the result of remove callback. In that case, commit fc7a6209d571 ("bus: Make remove callback return void") forces bus_type::remove be void-returned. Now we have the situation that both 1 & 2 of calling chain are void-returned, so it does not make much sense for 3(driver->remove) to return non-void to its caller. So the basic idea behind this change is making remove() callback of any bus-based driver to be void-returned. This change, for itself, is for device drivers based on acpi-bus. 2021-03-08ACPI: HED: Drop unused ACPI_MODULE_NAME() definitionRafael J. Wysocki1-1/+0

2013-12-07ACPI: Clean up inclusions of ACPI header filesLv Zheng1-2/+0
Replace direct inclusions of <acpi/acpi.h>, <acpi/acpi_bus.h> and <acpi/acpi_drivers.h>, which are incorrect, with <linux/acpi.h> inclusions and remove some inclusions of those files that aren't necessary. First of all, <acpi/acpi.h>, <acpi/acpi_bus.h> and <acpi/acpi_drivers.h> should not be included directly from any files that are built for CONFIG_ACPI unset, because that generally leads to build warnings about undefined symbols in !CONFIG_ACPI builds. For CONFIG_ACPI set, <linux/acpi.h> includes those files and for CONFIG_ACPI unset it provides stub ACPI symbols to be used in that case. Second, there are ordering dependencies between those files that always have to be met. Namely, it is required that <acpi/acpi_bus.h> be included prior to <acpi/acpi_drivers.h> so that the acpi_pci_root declarations the latter depends on are always there. And <acpi/acpi.h> which provides basic ACPICA type declarations should always be included prior to any other ACPI headers in CONFIG_ACPI builds. That also is taken care of including <linux/acpi.h> as appropriate. 2013-01-26ACPI: Remove useless type argument of driver .remove() operationRafael J. Wysocki1-1/+1
The second argument of ACPI driver .remove() operation is only used by the ACPI processor driver and the value passed to that driver through it is always available from the given struct acpi_device object's removal_type field. For this reason, the second ACPI driver .remove() argument is in fact useless, so drop it. Signed-off-by: Rafael J. 2012-12-12Merge tag 'driver-core-3.8-rc1' of ↵Linus Torvalds1-1/+1
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/driver-core Pull driver core updates from Greg Kroah-Hartman: "Here's the large driver core updates for 3.8-rc1. The biggest thing here is the various __dev* marking removals. This is going to be a pain for the merge with different subsystem trees, I know, but all of the patches included here have been ACKed by their various subsystem maintainers, as they wanted them to go through here. If this is too much of a pain, I can pull all of them out of this tree and just send you one with the other fixes/updates and then, after 3.8-rc1 is out, do the rest of the removals to ensure we catch them all, it's up to you. The merges should all be trivial, and Stephen has been doing them all in linux-next for a few weeks now quite easily. Other than the __dev* marking removals, there's nothing major here, some firmware loading updates and other minor things in the driver core. All of these have (much to Stephen's annoyance), been in linux-next for a while. 2010-05-20ACPI Hardware Error Device (PNP0C33) supportHuang Ying1-0/+112
Hardware Error Device (PNP0C33) is used to report some hardware errors notified via SCI, mainly the corrected errors. Some APEI Generic Hardware Error Source (GHES) may use SCI on hardware error device to notify hardware error to kernel. After receiving notification from ACPI core, it is forwarded to all listeners via a notifier chain. The listener such as APEI GHES should check corresponding error source for new events when notified.
