2023-11-20drm: Call drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at shutdown/remove time for misc driversDouglas Anderson1-0/+7
[ Upstream commit 3c4babae3c4a1ae05f8f3f5f3d50c440ead7ca6a ] Based on grepping through the source code these drivers appear to be missing a call to drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at system shutdown time and at driver remove (or unbind) time. Among other things, this means that if a panel is in use that it won't be cleanly powered off at system shutdown time. The fact that we should call drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() in the case of OS shutdown/restart and at driver remove (or unbind) time comes straight out of the kernel doc "driver instance overview" in drm_drv.c. A few notes about these fixes: - I confirmed that these drivers were all DRIVER_MODESET type drivers, which I believe makes this relevant. - I confirmed that these drivers were all DRIVER_ATOMIC. - When adding drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() to the remove/unbind path, I added it after drm_kms_helper_poll_fini() when the driver had it. This seemed to be what other drivers did. If drm_kms_helper_poll_fini() wasn't there I added it straight after drm_dev_unregister(). - This patch deals with drivers using the component model in similar ways as the patch ("drm: Call drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at shutdown time for misc drivers") - These fixes rely on the patch ("drm/atomic-helper: drm_atomic_helper_shutdown(NULL) should be a noop") to simplify shutdown. 2023-06-08drm/aspeed: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König1-4/+2
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. 2022-08-03drm/gem: rename struct drm_gem_dma_object.{paddr => dma_addr}Danilo Krummrich1-1/+1
The field paddr of struct drm_gem_dma_object holds a DMA address, which might actually be a physical address. However, depending on the platform, it can also be a bus address or a virtual address managed by an IOMMU. Hence, rename the field to dma_addr, which is more applicable. Besides that, commit e57924d4ae80 ("drm/doc: Task to rename CMA helpers") requests to rename the CMA helpers and implies that people seem to be confused about the naming. Link drm_fb_cma_helper.o into drm_cma_helper.ko if CONFIG_DRM_KMS_HELPER has been set. Remove CONFIG_DRM_KMS_CMA_HELPER config option. Selecting KMS helpers and CMA will now automatically enable CMA KMS helpers. Some drivers' Kconfig files did not correctly select KMS or CMA helpers. Fix this as part of the change. 2021-11-19drm/aspeed: Fix vga_pw sysfs outputJoel Stanley1-1/+1
Before the drm driver had support for this file there was a driver that exposed the contents of the vga password register to userspace. It would present the entire register instead of interpreting it. The drm implementation chose to mask of the lower bit, without explaining why. This breaks the existing userspace, which is looking for 0xa8 in the lower byte. Change our implementation to expose the entire register. The function drm_gem_fb_prepare_fb() is a helper for atomic modesetting, but currently located next to framebuffer helpers. Move it to GEM atomic helpers, rename it slightly and adopt the drivers. Same for the rsp simple-pipe helper. Compile-tested with x86-64, aarch64 and arm. There are minor differences in the values for the threshold value and the scan line size between families of ASPEED SoC. Additionally the SCU registers for the output control and scratch registers differ between families. This adds device tree matching to parameterise these values, allowing us to add support for the AST2400 now, and in the future the AST2600. Only the following drivers aren't converted: - amdgpu, because of the driver_feature mangling due to virt support. Subsequent patch will address this. - nouveau, because DRIVER_ATOMIC uapi is still not the default on the platforms where it's supported (i.e. again driver_feature mangling) - vc4, again because of driver_feature mangling - qxl, because the ioctl table is somewhere else and moving that is maybe a bit too much, hence the num_ioctls assignment prevents a const driver structure. - arcpgu, because that is stuck behind a pending tiny-fication series from me. - legacy drivers, because legacy requires non-const drm_driver. Note that for armada I also went ahead and made the ioctl array const. The GFX IP is inside of the ASPEED BMC SoC so there is little use enabling it on a kernel that does not support ASPEED. When building with COMPILE_TEST the architecture many not have CMA support, so to avoid breaking the build we only select these options if the architecture supports the contiguous allocator. I suspect the DRM_PANEL came from a cut/paste error.
