2022-06-20drm: Drop drm_edid.h from drm_crtc.hVille Syrjälä1-0/+1
drm_crtc.h has no need for drm_edid.h, so don't include it. Avoids useless rebuilds of the entire universe when touching drm_edid.h. Quite a few placs do currently depend on drm_edid.h without actually including it directly. All of those need to be fixed up. v2: Fix up i915 and msm some more v3: Fix alphabetical ordering (Sam) Signed-off-by: Ville Syrjälä <ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20220614090245.30283-1-ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com Acked-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Acked-by: Jani Nikula <jani.nikula@intel.com>
2022-01-17drm/dp: Move DisplayPort helpers into separate helper moduleThomas Zimmermann1-15/+0
Move DisplayPort functions into a separate module to reduce the size of the KMS helpers. Select DRM_DP_HELPER for all users of the code. To avoid naming conflicts, rename drm_dp_helper.c to drm_dp.c This change can help to reduce the size of the kernel binary. Some numbers from a x86-64 test build: Before: drm_kms_helper.ko: 447480 bytes After: drm_dp_helper.ko: 216632 bytes drm_kms_helper.ko: 239424 bytes For early-boot graphics, generic DRM drivers, such as simpledrm, require DRM KMS helpers to be built into the kernel. Generic helper functions for DisplayPort take up a significant portion of DRM KMS helper library. These functions are not used by generic drivers and can be loaded as a module. v3: * fix include statement in DRM selftests v2: * move DP helper code into dp/ (Jani) Signed-off-by: Thomas Zimmermann <tzimmermann@suse.de> Acked-by: Lyude Paul <lyude@redhat.com> Acked-by: Daniel Vetter <daniel@ffwll.ch> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20220114114535.29157-4-tzimmermann@suse.de

2021-08-18drm: Remove unused code to load the non-existing fbcon.koJavier Martinez Canillas1-11/+0
Commit 6104c37094e7 ("fbcon: Make fbcon a built-time depency for fbdev") changed the FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE Kconfig symbol from tristate to bool. But the drm_kms_helper_init() function still attempts to load the fbcon module, even when this is always built-in since the mentioned change. 2021-02-08drm: remove drm_fb_helper_modinitChristoph Hellwig1-13/+12
drm_fb_helper_modinit has a lot of boilerplate for what is not very simple functionality. Just open code it in the only caller using IS_ENABLED and IS_MODULE, and skip the find_module check as a request_module is harmless if the module is already loaded (and not other caller has this find_module check either). 2019-05-27drm: drop use of drmP.h in drm/*Sam Ravnborg1-1/+2
The use of the drmP.h header file is deprecated. Remove use from all files in drm/* so people do not look there and follow a bad example. Build tested allyesconfig, allmodconfig on x86, arm etc. Including alpha that is as always more challenging than the rest. 2017-09-19drm: add backwards compatibility support for drm_kms_helper.edid_firmwareJani Nikula1-0/+28
Add drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware module parameter with param ops hooks to set drm.edid_firmware instead, for backwards compatibility. 2016-08-16drm: Don't export dp-aux devnode functionsDaniel Vetter1-1/+2
They're only used internally within the dp helpers. Also nuke the kerneldoc (we only document the driver interface in the drm shared functions). And move the header file from the public include/ directory to the source files into drm_crtc_helper_internal.h, similar to how we already have drm_crtc_internal.h. While at it also move drm_fb_helper_modinit since that belongs in there, too. I noticed this all since I spotted kerneldoc which wasn't pulled into the rst templates. v2: Update Copyright date. 2016-02-12drm/dp: Add a drm_aux-dev module for reading/writing dpcd registers.Rafael Antognolli1-1/+14
This module is heavily based on i2c-dev. Once loaded, it provides one dev node per DP AUX channel, named drm_dp_auxN, where N is an integer. It's possible to know which connector owns this aux channel by looking at the respective sysfs /sys/class/drm_aux_dev/drm_dp_auxN/connector, if the connector device pointer was correctly set in the aux helper struct. Two main operations are provided on the registers read and write. The address of the register to be read or written is given using lseek. The seek position is updated upon read or write. v2: - lseek is used to select the register to read/write - read/write are used instead of ioctl - no blocking_notifier is used, just a direct callback v3: - use drm_dp_aux_dev prefix for public functions - chardev is named drm_dp_auxN - read/write don't allocate a buffer anymore, and transfer up to 16 bytes a time - remove notifier list from the implementation - option on menuconfig is now a boolean - add inline stub functions to avoid breakage when this option is disabled v4: - fix build system changes - actually disable this module when not selected. v5: - Use kref to avoid device closing while still in use - Don't use list, use an idr for storing aux_dev - Remove "connector" attribute - set aux.dev to the connector drm_connector device, instead of drm_device v6: - Use atomic_t for usage count - Use a mutex instead of spinlock for idr lock - Destroy chardev immediately on unregister - other minor suggestions from Ville v7: - style fixes - error handling fixes v8: - more error handling fixes v9: - remove module_init and module_exit, and add drm_dp_aux_dev_init/exit to drm_kms_helper_init/exit.
