2019-05-20drm: Remove users of drm_format_info_plane_cppMaxime Ripard1-1/+1
drm_format_info_plane_cpp() basically just returns the cpp array content found in the drm_format_info structure. Since it's pretty trivial, let's remove the function and have the users use the array directly Suggested-by: Ville Syrjälä <ville.syrjala@linux.intel.com> Reviewed-by: Paul Kocialkowski <paul.kocialkowski@bootlin.com> Signed-off-by: Maxime Ripard <maxime.ripard@bootlin.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/c0a78c87cd0410a1819edad2794ad06543c85bb5.1558002671.git-series.maxime.ripard@bootlin.com
2019-05-20drm/fourcc: Pass the format_info pointer to drm_format_plane_cppMaxime Ripard1-1/+3
So far, the drm_format_plane_cpp function was operating on the format's fourcc and was doing a lookup to retrieve the drm_format_info structure and return the cpp. However, this is inefficient since in most cases, we will have the drm_format_info pointer already available so we shouldn't have to perform a new lookup. Some drm_fourcc functions also already operate on the drm_format_info pointer for that reason, so the API is quite inconsistent there. Let's follow the latter pattern and remove the extra lookup while being a bit more consistent. In order to be extra consistent, also rename that function to drm_format_info_plane_cpp and to a static function in the header to match the current policy. 2019-03-26drm/fbdev: Make skip_vt_switch the defaultDaniel Vetter1-0/+3
KMS drivers really should all be able to restore their display state on resume without fbcon helping out. So make this the default. Since I'm not entirely foolish, make it only a default, which drivers can still override. That way when the inevitable regression report happens I can fix things up with a one-liner plus FIXME comment that someone should fix up the suspend/resume code in that driver. But at least all new drivers won't be broken by accident as soon as you turn off fbcon because "suspend/resume worked when I tested it". v2: Keep this for radeon because of commit 18c437caa5b18a235dd65cec224eab54bebcee65 Author: Alex Deucher <alexander.deucher@amd.com> Date: Tue Nov 14 17:19:29 2017 -0500 Revert "drm/radeon: dont switch vt on suspend" Thanks to Michel Dänzer for pointing this one out. 2017-07-26drm/<drivers>: Drop fbdev info flagsDaniel Vetter1-1/+0
- FBINFO_CAN_FORCE_OUTPUT has been a lie ever since we nerfed&removed the entire panic handling code in our fbdev emulation. We might restore kms panic output, but not through the bazillion of legacy code layers called fbdev/fbcon, there's just no way to make that work safely. - With the module check change FBINFO_DEFAULT is always 0, so can be removed too. That removes another change to cargo-cult stuff in kms drivers, yay! 2017-07-25drm/radeon: Set depth on low mem to 16 bpp instead of 8 bppEgbert Eich1-2/+5
The radeon driver reduces the framebuffer resolution to 8bpp if a device with less than 32MB VRAM is found. This causes the framebuffer to run in 8 bit paletted mode. For a text console this is not an issue as 256 different colors is more than one gets on a VGA text console. However this leads to a poor 8bit pseudo-color visual when running X on fbdev, too, which is quite ugly. In this patch, we try to give some moderate compromise: limit the framebuffer bpp to 8 only when VRAM is 8MB or less, and use 16 bpp otherwise for 32MB or less VRAM. 2017-02-02drm: Rely on mode_config data for fb_helper initializationGabriel Krisman Bertazi1-1/+0
Instead of receiving the num_crts as a parameter, we can read it directly from the mode_config structure. I audited the drivers that invoke this helper and I believe all of them initialize the mode_config struct accordingly, prior to calling the fb_helper. I used the following coccinelle hack to make this transformation, except for the function headers and comment updates. The first and second rules are split because I couldn't find a way to remove the unused temporary variables at the same time I removed the parameter. // <smpl> @r@ expression A,B,D,E; identifier C; @@ ( - drm_fb_helper_init(A,B,C,D) + drm_fb_helper_init(A,B,D) | - drm_fbdev_cma_init_with_funcs(A,B,C,D,E) + drm_fbdev_cma_init_with_funcs(A,B,D,E) | - drm_fbdev_cma_init(A,B,C,D) + drm_fbdev_cma_init(A,B,D) ) @@ expression A,B,C,D,E; @@ ( - drm_fb_helper_init(A,B,C,D) + drm_fb_helper_init(A,B,D) | - drm_fbdev_cma_init_with_funcs(A,B,C,D,E) + drm_fbdev_cma_init_with_funcs(A,B,D,E) | - drm_fbdev_cma_init(A,B,C,D) + drm_fbdev_cma_init(A,B,D) ) @@ identifier r.C; type T; expression V; @@ - T C; <... when != C - C = V; ...> // </smpl> Changes since v1: - Rebased on top of the tip of drm-misc-next. - Remove mention to sti since a proper fix got merged. Introduced by 386516744ba4 ("drm/fb: fix fbdev object model + cleanup properly.") in i915, nouveau and radeon. Subsequently cargo culted to amdgpu, ast, cirrus, qxl, udl, virtio and mgag200. Already removed from the latter with cc59487a05b1 ("drm/mgag200: 'fbdev_list' in 'struct mga_fbdev' is not used"). Remove it from the others. 2014-07-08drm: Introduce drm_fb_helper_prepare()Thierry Reding1-1/+3
To implement hotplug detection in a race-free manner, drivers must call drm_kms_helper_poll_init() before hotplug events can be triggered. Such events can be triggered right after any of the encoders or connectors are initialized. At the same time, if the drm_fb_helper_hotplug_event() helper is used by a driver, then the poll helper requires some parts of the FB helper to be initialized to prevent a crash. At the same time, drm_fb_helper_init() requires information that is not necessarily available at such an early stage (number of CRTCs and connectors), so it cannot be used yet. Add a new helper, drm_fb_helper_prepare(), that initializes the bare minimum needed to allow drm_kms_helper_poll_init() to execute and any subsequent hotplug events to be processed properly. 2013-02-14drm/fb-helper: don't disable everything in initial_configDaniel Vetter1-0/+4
This should be done in the drivers for two reasons: - it gets in the way of fastboot efforts - it links the fb helpers with the crtc helpers instead of going through the real interface vfuncs, forcing i915 to fake all the ->disable callbacks used by the crtc helper to avoid ugly Oopsen v2: Resolve conflicts since drivers still call drm_fb_helper_single_add_all_connectors. 2013-01-21drm: revamp framebuffer cleanup interfacesDaniel Vetter1-0/+2
We have two classes of framebuffer - Created by the driver (atm only for fbdev), and the driver holds onto the last reference count until destruction. - Created by userspace and associated with a given fd. These framebuffers will be reaped when their assoiciated fb is closed. Now these two cases are set up differently, the framebuffers are on different lists and hence destruction needs to clean up different things. Also, for userspace framebuffers we remove them from any current usage, whereas for internal framebuffers it is assumed that the driver has done this already. Long story short, we need two different ways to cleanup such drivers. Three functions are involved in total: - drm_framebuffer_remove: Convenience function which removes the fb from all active usage and then drops the passed-in reference. - drm_framebuffer_unregister_private: Will remove driver-private framebuffers from relevant lists and drop the corresponding references. Should be called for driver-private framebuffers before dropping the last reference (or like for a lot of the drivers where the fbdev is embedded someplace else, before doing the cleanup manually). - drm_framebuffer_cleanup: Final cleanup for both classes of fbs, should be called by the driver's ->destroy callback once the last reference is gone. This patch just rolls out the new interfaces and updates all drivers (by adding calls to drm_framebuffer_unregister_private at all the right places)- no functional changes yet. Follow-on patches will move drm core code around and update the lifetime management for framebuffers, so that we are no longer required to keep framebuffers alive by locking mode_config.mutex. I've also updated the kerneldoc already. vmwgfx seems to again be a bit special, at least I haven't figured out how the fbdev support in that driver works. It smells like it's external though. v2: The i915 driver creates another private framebuffer in the load-detect code. Adjust its cleanup code, too.
