2023-06-08drm/rockchip: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König1-4/+2
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert rockchip drm drivers from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. pm_runtime_get_sync will increment pm usage counter even it failed. Forgetting to putting operation will result in reference leak here. We fix it by replacing it with the newest pm_runtime_resume_and_get to keep usage counter balanced. 2022-05-03drm/rockchip: Embed drm_encoder into rockchip_decoderSascha Hauer1-10/+16
The VOP2 driver needs rockchip specific information for a drm_encoder. This patch creates a struct rockchip_encoder with a struct drm_encoder embedded in it. This is used throughout the rockchip driver instead of struct drm_encoder directly. The information the VOP2 drivers needs is the of_graph endpoint node of the encoder. To ease bisectability this is added here. While at it convert the different encoder-to-driverdata macros to static inline functions in order to gain type safety and readability. Rename dp/ to display/ to account for additional display-related helpers, such as HDMI. Update all related include statements. No functional changes. Various drivers, such as i915 and amdgpu, use similar naming scheme by putting code for video-output standards into a local display/ directory. Commit a25b988ff83f ("drm/bridge: Extend bridge API to disable connector creation") added DRM_BRIDGE_ATTACH_NO_CONNECTOR bridge flag and all bridges handle this flag in some way since then. Newly added bridge drivers must no longer contain the connector creation and will fail probing if this flag isn't set. In order to be able to connect to those newly added bridges as well, make use of drm_bridge_connector API and have the connector initialized by the display controller. In the Rockchip DRM LVDS component driver, the endpoint id provided to drm_of_find_panel_or_bridge is grabbed from the endpoint's reg property. However, the property may be missing in the case of a single endpoint. Initialize the endpoint_id variable to 0 to avoid using an uninitialized variable in that case. 2020-02-26drm/bridge: Extend bridge API to disable connector creationLaurent Pinchart1-1/+1
Most bridge drivers create a DRM connector to model the connector at the output of the bridge. This model is historical and has worked pretty well so far, but causes several issues: - It prevents supporting more complex display pipelines where DRM connector operations are split over multiple components. For instance a pipeline with a bridge connected to the DDC signals to read EDID data, and another one connected to the HPD signal to detect connection and disconnection, will not be possible to support through this model. - It requires every bridge driver to implement similar connector handling code, resulting in code duplication. - It assumes that a bridge will either be wired to a connector or to another bridge, but doesn't support bridges that can be used in both positions very well (although there is some ad-hoc support for this in the analogix_dp bridge driver). In order to solve these issues, ownership of the connector should be moved to the display controller driver (where it can be implemented using helpers provided by the core). Extend the bridge API to allow disabling connector creation in bridge drivers as a first step towards the new model. The new flags argument to the bridge .attach() operation allows instructing the bridge driver to skip creating a connector. Unconditionally set the new flags argument to 0 for now to keep the existing behaviour, and modify all existing bridge drivers to return an error when connector creation is not requested as they don't support this feature yet. To facilitate moving connector creation to display drivers, decouple the drm_connector from drm_panel. This patch adds a connector argument to drm_panel_get_modes(). All users of drm_panel_get_modes() already had the connector available, so updating users was trivial. With this patch drm_panel no longer keeps a reference to the drm_connector. We are about to add a drm_bridge_state that inherits from drm_private_state which is defined in drm_atomic.h. Problem is, drm_atomic.h includes drm_crtc.h which in turn includes drm_bridge.h, leading to "drm_private_state has incomplete type" error. Let's force all users of the drm_bridge API to explicitly include drm_bridge.h. Having the probe helper stuff (which pretty much everyone needs) in the drm_crtc_helper.h file (which atomic drivers should never need) is confusing. Split them out. To make sure I actually achieved the goal here I went through all drivers. And indeed, all atomic drivers are now free of drm_crtc_helper.h includes. v2: Make it compile. There was so much compile fail on arm drivers that I figured I'll better not include any of the acks on v1. v3: Massive rebase because i915 has lost a lot of drmP.h includes, but not all: Through drm_crtc_helper.h > drm_modeset_helper.h -> drmP.h there was still one, which this patch largely removes. Which means rolling out lots more includes all over.
