In order for hibernation to reliably work we need to properly turn
off the SDMA block, sadly after numerous attemps i haven't not found
proper sequence for clean and full shutdown. So simply reset both
SDMA block, this makes hibernation works reliably on sea island GPU

[ Upstream commit 161569deaa03cf3c00ed63352006193f250b0648 ]
In order for hibernation to reliably work we need to cleanup more
thoroughly the compute ring. Hibernation is different from suspend
resume as when we resume from hibernation the hardware is first
fully initialize by regular kernel then freeze callback happens
(which correspond to a suspend inside the radeon kernel driver)
and turn off each of the block. It turns out we were not cleanly
shutting down the compute ring. This patch fix that.

Passive DP->DVI/HDMI dongles on DP++ ports show up to the system as HDMI
devices, as they do not have a sink device in them to respond to any AUX
traffic. When probing these dongles over the DDC, sometimes they will
NAK the first attempt even though the transaction is valid and they
support the DDC protocol. The retry loop inside of
drm_do_probe_ddc_edid() would normally catch this case and try the
transaction again, resulting in success.
That, however, was thwarted by the fix for [1]:

drm: give up on edid retries when i2c bus is not responding
This added code to exit immediately if the return code from the
i2c_transfer function was -ENXIO in order to reduce the amount of time
spent in waiting for unresponsive or disconnected devices. That was
possible because the underlying i2c bit banging algorithm had retries of
its own (which, of course, were part of the reason for the bug the
commit fixes).

drm/i915: use GMBUS to manage i2c links
we've been flipping back and forth enabling the GMBUS transfers, but
we've settled since then. The GMBUS implementation does not do any
retries, however, bailing out of the drm_do_probe_ddc_edid() retry loop
on first encounter of -ENXIO. This, combined with Eugeni's commit, broke
the retry on -ENXIO.

[ Upstream commit 944115934436b1ff6cf773a9e9123858ea9ef3da ]
Haswell significantly improved the performance of sampler_c messages,
but the optimization appears to be off by default. Later platforms
remove this bit, and apparently always enable the optimization.
Improves performance in "Counter Strike: Global Offensive" by 18%
at default settings on Iris Pro.
This may break sampling of paletted formats (P8/A8P8/P8A8). It's
unclear whether it affects sampling of paletted formats in general,
or just the sample_c message (which is never used).
While libva does have support for using paletted formats (primarily
for OSDs), that support appears to have been broken for at least a
year, so I couldn't observe a regression from this:
I tried to get libva-intel to use paletted formats, and observe a
regression...but the only thing I found that used it was mplayer's OSD
(on screen display). Even without my patch, the colors were totally
wrong with that, and it's according to a few distro wikis, that's been
the case for over a year.
If libva's code for paletted formats /is/ broken, they could always
add code to disable this bit using the command validator when fixing
it.
Further investigation from Haihao shows that libva mplayer OSD seems
to work at least on his setup (still unclear what's wron with Ken's),
and that it's not affected by this patch. Quoting the discussion
between Haihao and Ken:

Single channel LVDS maxes out at 112 MHz. The 15" pre-retina models
shipped with 1440x900 (106 MHz) by default or 1680x1050 (119 MHz)
as a BTO option, both versions used dual channel LVDS even though
the smaller one would have fit into a single channel.
Notes:
Bug report showing that the MacBookPro8,2 with 1440x900 uses dual
channel LVDS (this lead to it being hardcoded in intel_lvds.c by
Daniel Vetter with commit 618563e3945b9d0864154bab3c607865b557cecc):
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42842
If i915.lvds_channel_mode=2 is missing even though the machine needs
it, every other vertical line is white and consequently, only the left
half of the screen is visible (verified by myself on a MacBookPro9,1).
Forum posting concerning a MacBookPro6,2 with 1440x900, author is
using i915.lvds_channel_mode=2 on the kernel command line, proving
that the machine uses dual channels:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=185770
Chi Mei N154C6-L04 with 1440x900 is a replacement panel for all
MacBook Pro "A1286" models, and that model number encompasses the
MacBookPro6,2 / 8,2 / 9,1. Page 17 of the panel's datasheet shows it's
driven with dual channel LVDS:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/400690878560
http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/?search_keywords=A1286
http://www.taopanel.com/chimei/datasheet/N154C6-L04.pdf
Those three 15" models, MacBookPro6,2 / 8,2 / 9,1, are the only ones
with i915 graphics and dual channel LVDS, so that list should be
complete. And the 8,2 is already in intel_lvds.c.
Possible motivation to use dual channel LVDS even on the 1440x900
models: Reduce the number of different parts, i.e. use identical logic
boards and display cabling on both versions and the only differing
component is the panel.

Since commit 844b03f27739135fe1fed2fef06da0ffc4c7a081 we make
sure that after vblank irq off, we return the last valid
(vblank count, vblank timestamp) pair to clients, e.g., during
modesets, which is good.
An overlooked side effect of that commit for kms drivers without
support for precise vblank timestamping is that at vblank irq
enable, when we update the vblank counter from the hw counter, we
can't update the corresponding vblank timestamp, so now we have a
totally mismatched timestamp for the new count to confuse clients.
Restore old client visible behaviour from before Linux 3.17, but
zero out the timestamp at vblank counter update (instead of disable
as in original implementation) if we can't generate a meaningful
timestamp immediately for the new vblank counter. This will fix
this regression, so callers know they need to retry again later
if they need a valid timestamp, but at the same time preserves
the improvements made in the commit mentioned above.

The hardware, according to the specs, is limited to 256 byte transfers,
and current driver has no protections in case users attempt to do larger
transfers. The code will just stomp over status register and mayhem
ensues.
Let's split larger transfers into digestable chunks. Doing this allows
Atmel MXT driver on Pixel 1 function properly (it hasn't since commit

I noticed this only by reading the code. To my knowledge it shouldn't
cause any real problems at the moment, since the power well backing this
register remains on across a runtime s/r. This may change once
system-wide s0ix functionality is enabled in the kernel.

Since we don't even enable these interrupts on gen5+ let's do the same
on earlier platforms.

we should just move ahead with the colorkey property conversion.

If the user supplies EDID through firmware or debugfs override, the
driver callbacks are bypassed and the connector ELD does not get
updated, and audio fails. Set ELD for firmware and debugfs EDIDs too.
There should be no harm in gratuitously doing this for non HDMI/DP
connectors, as it's still up to the driver to use the ELD, if any.

drm: Don't grab an fb reference for the idr
we've switched to weak references, broke that assumption but forgot to
fix it up.
Since we still force-disable planes it's only possible to hit this
when racing multiple rmfb with fbdev restoring or similar evil things.
As long as userspace is nice it's impossible to hit the BUG_ON.
But the BUG_ON would most likely be hit from fbdev code, which usually
invovles the console_lock besides all modeset locks. So very likely
we'd never get the bug reports if this was hit in the wild, hence
better be safe than sorry and backport.

The internal framebuffers we create to remap legacy cursor ioctls to
plane operations for the universal plane support shouldn't be linke to
the file like normal userspace framebuffers. This bug goes back to the
original universal cursor plane support introduced in
commit 161d0dc1dccb17ff7a38f462c7c0d4ef8bcc5662
Author: Matt Roper <matthew.d.roper@intel.com>
Date: Tue Jun 10 08:28:10 2014 -0700
drm: Support legacy cursor ioctls via universal planes when possible (v4)
The isn't too disastrous since fbs are small, we only create one when the
cursor bo gets changed and ultimately they'll be reaped when the window
server restarts.
Conceptually we'd want to just pass NULL for file_priv when creating it,
but the driver needs the file to lookup the underlying buffer object for
cursor id. Instead let's move the file_priv linking out of
add_framebuffer_internal() into the addfb ioctl implementation, which is
the only place it is needed. And also rename the function for a more
accurate since it only creates the fb, but doesn't add it anywhere.
