In preparation to enabling -Wimplicit-fallthrough, mark switch cases where we are expecting to fall through. This patch fixes the following warning: drivers/ide/ide-floppy.c: In function ‘ide_floppy_get_capacity’: drivers/ide/ide-floppy.c:424:7: warning: this statement may fall through [-Wimplicit-fallthrough=] if (!(drive->atapi_flags & IDE_AFLAG_CLIK_DRIVE)) ^ drivers/ide/ide-floppy.c:431:3: note: here case CAPACITY_CURRENT: ^~~~ Warning level 3 was used: -Wimplicit-fallthrough=3 Notice that, in this particular case, the code comment is modified in accordance with what GCC is expecting to find. 2019-01-31ide: ensure atapi sense request aren't preemptedJens Axboe4-38/+57
There's an issue with how sense requests are handled in IDE. If ide-cd encounters an error, it queues a sense request. With how IDE request handling is done, this is the next request we need to handle. But it's impossible to guarantee this, as another request could come in between the sense being queued, and ->queue_rq() being run and handling it. If that request ALSO fails, then we attempt to doubly queue the single sense request we have. Since we only support one active request at the time, defer request processing when a sense request is queued. 2018-12-29Merge tag 'for-4.21/block-20181221' of git://git.kernel.dk/linux-blockLinus Torvalds12-209/+259
Pull block updates from Jens Axboe: "This is the main pull request for block/storage for 4.21. Larger than usual, it was a busy round with lots of goodies queued up. Most notable is the removal of the old IO stack, which has been a long time coming. No new features for a while, everything coming in this week has all been fixes for things that were previously merged. This contains: - Use atomic counters instead of semaphores for mtip32xx (Arnd) - Cleanup of the mtip32xx request setup (Christoph) - Fix for circular locking dependency in loop (Jan, Tetsuo) - bcache (Coly, Guoju, Shenghui) * Optimizations for writeback caching * Various fixes and improvements - nvme (Chaitanya, Christoph, Sagi, Jay, me, Keith) * host and target support for NVMe over TCP * Error log page support * Support for separate read/write/poll queues * Much improved polling * discard OOM fallback * Tracepoint improvements - lightnvm (Hans, Hua, Igor, Matias, Javier) * Igor added packed metadata to pblk. Now drives without metadata per LBA can be used as well. * Fix from Geert on uninitialized value on chunk metadata reads. * Fixes from Hans and Javier to pblk recovery and write path. * Fix from Hua Su to fix a race condition in the pblk recovery code. * Scan optimization added to pblk recovery from Zhoujie. * Small geometry cleanup from me. - Conversion of the last few drivers that used the legacy path to blk-mq (me) - Removal of legacy IO path in SCSI (me, Christoph) - Removal of legacy IO stack and schedulers (me) - Support for much better polling, now without interrupts at all. blk-mq adds support for multiple queue maps, which enables us to have a map per type. This in turn enables nvme to have separate completion queues for polling, which can then be interrupt-less. Also means we're ready for async polled IO, which is hopefully coming in the next release. - Killing of (now) unused block exports (Christoph) - Unification of the blk-rq-qos and blk-wbt wait handling (Josef) - Support for zoned testing with null_blk (Masato) - sx8 conversion to per-host tag sets (Christoph) - IO priority improvements (Damien) - mq-deadline zoned fix (Damien) - Ref count blkcg series (Dennis) - Lots of blk-mq improvements and speedups (me) - sbitmap scalability improvements (me) - Make core inflight IO accounting per-cpu (Mikulas) - Export timeout setting in sysfs (Weiping) - Cleanup the direct issue path (Jianchao) - Export blk-wbt internals in block debugfs for easier debugging (Ming) - Lots of other fixes and improvements" * tag 'for-4.21/block-20181221' of git://git.kernel.dk/linux-block: (364 commits) kyber: use sbitmap add_wait_queue/list_del wait helpers sbitmap: add helpers for add/del wait queue handling block: save irq state in blkg_lookup_create() dm: don't reuse bio for flushes nvme-pci: trace SQ status on completions nvme-rdma: implement polling queue map nvme-fabrics: allow user to pass in nr_poll_queues nvme-fabrics: allow nvmf_connect_io_queue to poll nvme-core: optionally poll sync commands block: make request_to_qc_t public nvme-tcp: fix spelling mistake "attepmpt" -> "attempt" nvme-tcp: fix endianess annotations nvmet-tcp: fix endianess annotations nvme-pci: refactor nvme_poll_irqdisable to make sparse happy nvme-pci: only set nr_maps to 2 if poll queues are supported nvmet: use a macro for default error location nvmet: fix comparison of a u16 with -1 blk-mq: enable IO poll if .nr_queues of type poll > 0 blk-mq: change blk_mq_queue_busy() to blk_mq_queue_inflight() blk-mq: skip zero-queue maps in blk_mq_map_swqueue ...

2018-11-16ide: clear ide_req()->special for non-passthrough requestsJens Axboe1-0/+5
The initial patch cleared this for all requests, which is wrong since internal uses can't have this cleared as that's what they are using to pass data. The fix moved the initialization to the mq_ops->initialize_rq_fn(), but that's only a partial fix since it only catches uses from blk_get_request(), not requests coming from the file system. Keep the non-fs initialization, and add the IDE entry clear IFF RQF_DONTPREP isn't set and it's a passthrough request. 2018-06-13treewide: kzalloc() -> kcalloc()Kees Cook2-2/+2
The kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kcalloc(). This patch replaces cases of: kzalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kcalloc(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kzalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kzalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kzalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. This patch replaces cases of: kmalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kmalloc_array(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kmalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kmalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kmalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kmalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. The tools/ directory was manually excluded, since it has its own implementation of kmalloc(). The Coccinelle script used for this was: // Fix redundant parens around sizeof(). @@ type TYPE; expression THING, E; @@ ( kmalloc( - (sizeof(TYPE)) * E + sizeof(TYPE) * E , ...) | kmalloc( - (sizeof(THING)) * E + sizeof(THING) * E , ...) ) // Drop single-byte sizes and redundant parens. @@ expression COUNT; 2018-06-05ide: don't enable/disable interrupts in force threaded-IRQ modeSebastian Andrzej Siewior2-5/+10
The interrupts are enabled/disabled so the interrupt handler can run with enabled interrupts while serving the interrupt and not lose other interrupts especially the timer tick. 2018-06-05ide: don't disable interrupts during kmap_atomic()Sebastian Andrzej Siewior1-8/+0
ide_pio_bytes() disables interrupts around kmap_atomic(). This is a leftover from the old kmap_atomic() implementation which relied on fixed mapping slots, so the caller had to make sure that the same slot could not be reused from an interrupting context. kmap_atomic() was changed to dynamic slots long ago and commit 1ec9c5ddc17a ("include/linux/highmem.h: remove the second argument of k[un]map_atomic()") removed the slot assignements, but the callers were not checked for now redundant interrupt disabling. 2018-06-05ide: Handle irq disabling consistentlySebastian Andrzej Siewior1-2/+2
ide_timer_expiry() disables interrupt at function entry when acquiring hwif->lock. Before disabling the device interrupt it unlocks hwif->lock, but interrupts stay disabled. After the call to disable_irq() interrupts are disabled again, which is a pointless exercise. After the device irq handler has been invoked with interrupts disabled, hwif->lock is acquired again with spin_lock_irq() because the device irq handler might have reenabled interrupts. This is not documented and confusing for the casual reader. Remove the redundant local_irq_disable() and add a comment which explains why hwif->lock has to be reacquired with spin_lock_irq(). 2018-06-05alim15x3: move irq-restore before pci_dev_put()Sebastian Andrzej Siewior1-1/+1
init_chipset_ali15x3() initializes the chipset during init with disabled interrupts. There is no need to keep the interrupts disabled during pci_dev_put(). Move the irq-restore before pci_dev_put() is invoked. Side note: The same init is performed in drivers/ata/pata_ali.c::ali_init_chipset() without disabled interrupts. It looks that the same hardware is supported in the ATA land. Would it make sense to remove this driver since it is supported in the other subsystem? 2018-03-17block: Move SECTOR_SIZE and SECTOR_SHIFT definitions into <linux/blkdev.h>Bart Van Assche2-9/+5
It happens often while I'm preparing a patch for a block driver that I'm wondering: is a definition of SECTOR_SIZE and/or SECTOR_SHIFT available for this driver? Do I have to introduce definitions of these constants before I can use these constants? To avoid this confusion, move the existing definitions of SECTOR_SIZE and SECTOR_SHIFT into the <linux/blkdev.h> header file such that these become available for all block drivers. Make the SECTOR_SIZE definition in the uapi msdos_fs.h header file conditional to avoid that including that header file after <linux/blkdev.h> causes the compiler to complain about a SECTOR_SIZE redefinition. Note: the SECTOR_SIZE / SECTOR_SHIFT / SECTOR_BITS definitions have not been removed from uapi header files nor from NAND drivers in which these constants are used for another purpose than converting block layer offsets and sizes into a number of sectors. The call to check_disk_change() then saw an event flag indicating a possible media change and tried to flush any cached data for the device. As part of the flush, it tried to acquire the super_block->s_umount lock associated with the cdrom device. This was the same super_block as created and locked by the previous task. The first task acquires the s_umount lock and then the sr_mutex_lock; the second task acquires the sr_mutex_lock and then the s_umount lock. This patch fixes the issue by moving check_disk_change() out of cdrom_open() and let the caller take care of it. This patch has been generated as follows: for verb in set_unlocked clear_unlocked set clear; do replace-in-files queue_flag_${verb} blk_queue_flag_${verb%_unlocked} \ $(git grep -lw queue_flag_${verb} drivers block/bsg*) done Except for protecting all queue flag changes with the queue lock this patch does not change any functionality.
