2018-07-18block: Add and use op_stat_group() for indexing disk_stat fields.Michael Callahan2-4/+6
Add and use a new op_stat_group() function for indexing partition stat fields rather than indexing them by rq_data_dir() or bio_data_dir(). This function works similarly to op_is_sync() in that it takes the request::cmd_flags or bio::bi_opf flags and determines which stats should et updated. In addition, the second parameter to generic_start_io_acct() and generic_end_io_acct() is now a REQ_OP rather than simply a read or write bit and it uses op_stat_group() on the parameter to determine the stat group. Note that the partition in_flight counts are not part of the per-cpu statistics and as such are not indexed via this function. It's now indexed by op_is_write(). tj: Refreshed on top of v4.17. Updated to pass around REQ_OP. 2018-07-13lightnvm: pblk: add asynchronous partial readHeiner Litz2-63/+130
In the read path, partial reads are currently performed synchronously which affects performance for workloads that generate many partial reads. This patch adds an asynchronous partial read path as well as the required partial read ctx. 2018-07-13lightnvm: pblk: fix read_bitmap for 32bit archsMatias Bjørling1-7/+7
If using pblk on a 32bit architecture, and there is a need to perform a partial read, the partial read bitmap will only have allocated 32 entries, where as 64 are needed. Make sure that the read_bitmap is initialized to 64bits on 32bit architectures as well. 2018-07-13lightnvm: pblk: enable line minor version detectionMatias Bjørling1-2/+3
When recovering a line, an extra check was added when debugging was active, such that minor version where also checked. Unfortunately, this used the ifdef NVM_DEBUG, which is not correct. Instead use the proper DEBUG def, and now that it compiles, also fix the variable. 2018-07-13lightnvm: move NVM_DEBUG to pblkMatias Bjørling10-70/+72
There is no users of CONFIG_NVM_DEBUG in the LightNVM subsystem. All users are in pblk. Rename NVM_DEBUG to NVM_PBLK_DEBUG and enable only for pblk. 2018-07-13lightnvm: pblk: handle case when mw_cunits equals to 0Marcin Dziegielewski2-7/+5
Some devices can expose mw_cunits equal to 0, it can cause the creation of too small write buffer and cause performance to drop on write workloads. Additionally, write buffer size must cover write data requirements, such as WS_MIN and MW_CUNITS - it must be greater than or equal to the larger one multiplied by the number of PUs. However, for performance reasons, use the WS_OPT value to calculation instead of WS_MIN. Because the place where buffer size is calculated was changed, this patch also removes pgs_in_buffer filed in pblk structure. 2018-06-22lightnvm: Remove depends on HAS_DMA in case of platform dependencyGeert Uytterhoeven1-1/+1
Remove dependencies on HAS_DMA where a Kconfig symbol depends on another symbol that implies HAS_DMA, and, optionally, on "|| COMPILE_TEST". In most cases this other symbol is an architecture or platform specific symbol, or PCI. Generic symbols and drivers without platform dependencies keep their dependencies on HAS_DMA, to prevent compiling subsystems or drivers that cannot work anyway. 2018-06-13treewide: kmalloc() -> kmalloc_array()Kees Cook1-2/+2
The kmalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kmalloc_array(). This patch replaces cases of: kmalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kmalloc_array(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kmalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kmalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kmalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kmalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. The tools/ directory was manually excluded, since it has its own implementation of kmalloc(). The Coccinelle script used for this was: // Fix redundant parens around sizeof(). @@ type TYPE; expression THING, E; @@ ( kmalloc( - (sizeof(TYPE)) * E + sizeof(TYPE) * E , ...) | kmalloc( - (sizeof(THING)) * E + sizeof(THING) * E , ...) ) // Drop single-byte sizes and redundant parens. @@ expression COUNT; 2018-06-01lightnvm: pblk: remove unnecessary bio_get/putJavier González1-37/+28
In the read path, pblk gets a reference to the incoming bio and puts it after ending the bio. Though this behavior is correct, it is unnecessary since pblk is the one putting the bio, therefore, it cannot disappear underneath it. Removing this reference, allows to clean up rqd->bio and avoids pointer bouncing for the different read paths. Now, the incoming bio always resides in the read context and pblk's internal bios (if any) reside in rqd->bio. 2018-06-01lightnvm: pblk: garbage collect lines with failed writesHans Holmberg7-64/+200
Write failures should not happen under normal circumstances, so in order to bring the chunk back into a known state as soon as possible, evacuate all the valid data out of the line and let the fw judge if the block can be written to in the next reset cycle. Do this by introducing a new gc list for lines with failed writes, and ensure that the rate limiter allocates a small portion of the write bandwidth to get the job done. The lba list is saved in memory for use during gc as we cannot gurantee that the emeta data is readable if a write error occurred. The write error recovery path is incomplete, so rework the write error recovery handling to do resubmits directly from the write buffer. When a write error occurs, the remaining sectors in the chunk are mapped out and invalidated and the request inserted in a resubmit list.
