2023-08-25mmc: core: Add host specific tuning support for SD HS modeWenchao Chen1-1/+0
To support the need for host specific tuning for SD high-speed mode, let's add two new optional callbacks, ->prepare|execute_sd_hs_tuning() and let's call them when switching into the SD high-speed mode. Note that, during the tuning process it's also needed for host drivers to send commands to the SD card to verify that the tuning process succeeds. Therefore, let's also share the corresponding functions from the core to allow this. 2022-03-07mmc: core: Restore (almost) the busy polling for MMC_SEND_OP_CONDUlf Hansson1-1/+2
Commit 76bfc7ccc2fa ("mmc: core: adjust polling interval for CMD1"), significantly decreased the polling period from ~10-12ms into just a couple of us. The purpose was to decrease the total time spent in the busy polling loop, but unfortunate it has lead to problems, that causes eMMC cards to never gets out busy and thus fails to be initialized. To fix the problem, but also to try to keep some of the new improved behaviour, let's start by using a polling period of 1-2ms, which then increases for each loop, according to common polling loop in __mmc_poll_for_busy(). 2021-08-24mmc: core: Avoid hogging the CPU while polling for busy in the I/O err pathUlf Hansson1-0/+1
When mmc_blk_fix_state() sends a CMD12 to try to move the card into the transfer state, it calls card_busy_detect() to poll for the card's state with CMD13. This is done without any delays in between the commands being sent. Rather than fixing card_busy_detect() in this regards, let's instead convert into using the common mmc_poll_for_busy(), which also helps us to avoid open-coding. 2021-06-14mmc: core: Add support for cache ctrl for SD cardsUlf Hansson1-0/+1
In SD spec v6.x the SD function extension registers for performance enhancements were introduced. As a part of this an optional internal cache on the SD card, can be used to improve performance. The let the SD card use the cache, the host needs to enable it and manage flushing of the cache, so let's add support for this. Note that for an SD card supporting the cache it's mandatory for it, to also support the poweroff notification feature. According to the SD spec, if the cache has been enabled and a poweroff notification is sent to the card, that implicitly also means that the card should flush its internal cache. Therefore, dealing with cache flushing for REQ_OP_FLUSH block requests is sufficient. To make it even more re-usable, let's extend it with another in-parameter for the command argument. While at it, let's also rename the function to mmc_send_adtc_data() as it better describes its purpose. Note that, this change doesn't add any new users of the function. 2021-06-14mmc: core: Extend re-use of __mmc_poll_for_busy()Ulf Hansson1-1/+4
Via __mmc_poll_for_busy() we end up polling with the ->card_busy() host ops or by sending the CMD13. To allow polling of different types, which is needed to support a few new SD card features, let's rework the code around __mmc_poll_for_busy() to make it more generic. More precisely, let __mmc_poll_for_busy() take a pointer to a callback function as in-parameter, which it calls to poll for busy state completion. Additionally, let's share __mmc_poll_for_busy() to allow it to be re-used outside of mmc_ops.c. Subsequent changes will make use of it. 2020-03-26mmc: core: Re-work the code for eMMC sanitizeUlf Hansson1-1/+1
The error path for sanitize operations that completes with -ETIMEDOUT, is tightly coupled with the internal request handling code of the core. More precisely, mmc_wait_for_req_done() checks for specific sanitize errors. This is not only inefficient as it affects all types of requests, but also hackish. Therefore, let's improve the behaviour by moving the error path out of the mmc core. To do that, retuning needs to be held while running the sanitize operation. Moreover, to avoid exporting unnecessary symbols to the mmc block module, let's move the code into the mmc_ops.c file. Rather than open coding the polling loop in mmc_do_erase(), let's convert to use mmc_poll_for_busy(). To allow a slightly different error parsing during polling, compared to the __mmc_switch() case, a new in-parameter to mmc_poll_for_busy() is needed, but other than that the conversion is straight forward. Besides addressing the open coding issue, moving to mmc_poll_for_busy() for erase/trim/discard improves the behaviour according to below. - Adds support for polling via the optional ->card_busy() host ops. - Returns zero to indicate success when the final polling attempt finds the card non-busy, even if the timeout expired. - Exits the polling loop when state moves to R1_STATE_TRAN, rather than when leaving R1_STATE_PRG. - Decreases the starting range for throttling to 32-64us. 2018-12-17mmc: core: Cleanup BKOPS supportUlf Hansson1-2/+1
It's been ~6 years ago since we introduced the BKOPS support for eMMC cards. The current code is a bit messy and primarily that's because it prepares to support running BKOPS in an asynchronous mode. However, that mode has never been fully implemented/enabled. Instead BKOPS is always executed in synchronously, when the card has reported an urgent BKOPS level. For these reasons, let's make the code more readable by dropping the unused parts. Let's also rename mmc_start_bkops() to mmc_run_bkops(), as to make it more descriptive. 2016-11-29mmc: core: Enable __mmc_switch() to change bus speed timing for the hostUlf Hansson1-2/+2
In cases when a speed mode change is requested for mmc cards, a CMD6 is sent by calling __mmc_switch() during the card initialization. The CMD6 leads to the card entering a busy period. When that is completed, the host must parse the CMD6 status to find out whether the change of the speed mode succeeded. To enable the mmc core to poll the card by using CMD13 to find out when the busy period is completed, it's reasonable to make sure polling is done by having the mmc host and the mmc card, being configured to operate at the same selected bus speed timing. Therefore, let's extend __mmc_switch() to take yet another parameter, which allow its callers to update the bus speed timing of the mmc host. In this way, __mmc_switch() also becomes capable of reading and validating the CMD6 status by sending a CMD13, in cases when that's desired. If __mmc_switch() encounters a failure, we make sure to restores the old bus speed timing for the mmc host, before propagating the error code. 2007-09-23MMC core learns about SPIDavid Brownell1-0/+3
Teach the MMC/SD/SDIO core about using SPI mode. - Use mmc_host_is_spi() so enumeration works through SPI signaling and protocols, not just the native versions. - Provide the SPI response type flags with each request issued, including requests from the new lock/unlock code. - Understand that cmd->resp[0] and mmc_get_status() results for SPI return different values than for "native" MMC/SD protocol; this affects resetting, checking card lock status, and some others. - Understand that some commands act a bit differently ... notably: * OP_COND command doesn't return the OCR * APP_CMD status doesn't have an R1_APP_CMD analogue Those changes required some new and updated primitives: - Provide utilities to access two SPI-only requests, and one request that wasn't previously needed: * mmc_spi_read_ocr() ... SPI only * mmc_spi_set_crc() ... SPI only (override by module parm) * mmc_send_cid() ... for use without broadcast mode - Updated internal routines: * Previous mmc_send_csd() modified into mmc_send_cxd_native(); it uses native "R2" responses, which include 16 bytes of data. * Previous mmc_send_ext_csd() becomes new mmc_send_cxd_data() helper for command-and-data access * Bugfix to that mmc_send_cxd_data() code: dma-to-stack is unsafe/nonportable, so kmalloc a bounce buffer instead. - Modified mmc_send_ext_csd() now uses mmc_send_cxd_data() helper - Modified mmc_send_csd(), and new mmc_spi_send_cid(), routines use those helper routines based on whether they're native or SPI The newest categories of cards supported by the MMC stack aren't expected to work yet with SPI: MMC or SD cards with over 4GB data, and SDIO. All those cards support SPI mode, so eventually they should work too. Signed-off-by: David Brownell <dbrownell@users.sourceforge.net> Signed-off-by: Pierre Ossman <drzeus@drzeus.cx>
