This is often because davinci_mmcsd_probe lacks a __init annotation or the annotation of init_mmcsd_host is wrong. 2019-04-27mmc: omap: fix the maximum timeout settingAaro Koskinen1-1/+1
[ Upstream commit a6327b5e57fdc679c842588c3be046c0b39cc127 ] When running OMAP1 kernel on QEMU, MMC access is annoyingly noisy: MMC: CTO of 0xff and 0xfe cannot be used! MMC: CTO of 0xff and 0xfe cannot be used! MMC: CTO of 0xff and 0xfe cannot be used! [ad inf.] Emulator warnings appear to be valid. The TI document SPRU680 [1] ("OMAP5910 Dual-Core Processor MultiMedia Card/Secure Data Memory Card (MMC/SD) Reference Guide") page 36 states that the maximum timeout is 253 cycles and "0xff and 0xfe cannot be used". Fix by using 0xfd as the maximum timeout. Tested using QEMU 2.5 (Siemens SX1 machine, OMAP310), and also checked on real hardware using Palm TE (OMAP310), Nokia 770 (OMAP1710) and Nokia N810 (OMAP2420) that MMC works as before. 2019-04-03mmc: block: Allow more than 8 partitions per cardColin Cross1-5/+2
[ Upstream commit 382c55f88ffeb218c446bf0c46d0fc25d2795fe2 ] It is quite common for Android devices to utilize more then 8 partitions on internal eMMC storage. The vanilla kernel can support this via CONFIG_MMC_BLOCK_MINORS, however that solution caps the system to 256 minors total, which limits the number of mmc cards the system can support. This patch, which has been carried for quite awhile in the AOSP common tree, provides an alternative solution that doesn't seem to limit the total card count. So I wanted to submit it for consideration upstream. This patch sets the GENHD_FL_EXT_DEVT flag, which will allocate minor number in major 259 for partitions past disk->minors. It also removes the use of disk_devt to determine devidx from md->disk. md->disk->first_minor is always initialized from devidx and can always be used to recover it. 2019-04-03mmc: tmio_mmc_core: don't claim spurious interruptsSergei Shtylyov1-5/+3
commit 5c27ff5db1491a947264d6d4e4cbe43ae6535bae upstream. I have encountered an interrupt storm during the eMMC chip probing (and the chip finally didn't get detected). It turned out that U-Boot left the DMAC interrupts enabled while the Linux driver didn't use those. The SDHI driver's interrupt handler somehow assumes that, even if an SDIO interrupt didn't happen, it should return IRQ_HANDLED. I think that if none of the enabled interrupts happened and got handled, we should return IRQ_NONE -- that way the kernel IRQ code recoginizes a spurious interrupt and masks it off pretty quickly... When using the mmc_spi driver with a card-detect pin, I noticed that the card was not detected immediately after probe, but only after it was unplugged and plugged back in (and the CD IRQ fired). While booting with rootfs on MMC, the following warning is encountered on OMAP4430: omap-dma-engine 4a056000.dma-controller: DMA-API: mapping sg segment longer than device claims to support [len=69632] [max=65536] This is because the DMA engine has a default maximum segment size of 64K but HSMMC sets: mmc->max_blk_size = 512; /* Block Length at max can be 1024 */ mmc->max_blk_count = 0xFFFF; /* No. of Blocks is 16 bits */ mmc->max_req_size = mmc->max_blk_size * mmc->max_blk_count; mmc->max_seg_size = mmc->max_req_size; which ends up telling the block layer that we support a maximum segment size of 65535*512, which exceeds the advertised DMA engine capabilities. Fix this by clamping the maximum segment size to the lower of the maximum request size and of the DMA engine device used for either DMA channel. commit e8cde625bfe8a714a856e1366bcbb259d7346095 upstream. Since v2.6.22 or so there has been reports [1] about OMAP MMC being broken on OMAP15XX based hardware (OMAP5910 and OMAP310). The breakage seems to have been caused by commit 46a6730e3ff9 ("mmc-omap: Fix omap to use MMC_POWER_ON") that changed clock enabling to be done on MMC_POWER_ON. This can happen multiple times in a row, and on 15XX the hardware doesn't seem to like it and the MMC just stops responding. Fix by memorizing the power mode and do the init only when necessary. 2018-11-10mmc: sdhci: restore behavior when setting VDD via external regulatorJisheng Zhang1-13/+6
[ Upstream commit 918f4cbd4340ddd1eb389cd8efa3b07ac74ec4c0 ] After commit 52221610dd84 ("mmc: sdhci: Improve external VDD regulator support"), for the VDD is supplied via external regulators, we ignore the code to convert a VDD voltage request into one of the standard SDHCI voltage levels, then program it in the SDHCI_POWER_CONTROL. This brings two issues: 1. SDHCI_QUIRK2_CARD_ON_NEEDS_BUS_ON quirk isn't handled properly any more. 2. What's more, once SDHCI_POWER_ON bit is set, some controllers such as the sdhci-pxav3 used in marvell berlin SoCs require the voltage levels programming in the SDHCI_POWER_CONTROL register, even the VDD is supplied by external regulator. So the host in marvell berlin SoCs still works fine after the commit. However, commit 3cbc6123a93d ("mmc: sdhci: Set SDHCI_POWER_ON with external vmmc") sets the SDHCI_POWER_ON bit, this would make the host in marvell berlin SoCs won't work any more with external vmmc. This patch restores the behavior when setting VDD through external regulator by moving the call of mmc_regulator_set_ocr() to the end of sdhci_set_power() function. 2018-04-24mmc: jz4740: Fix race condition in IRQ mask updateAlex Smith1-1/+1
commit a04f0017c22453613d5f423326b190c61e3b4f98 upstream. A spinlock is held while updating the internal copy of the IRQ mask, but not while writing it to the actual IMASK register. After the lock is released, an IRQ can occur before the IMASK register is written. If handling this IRQ causes the mask to be changed, when the handler returns back to the middle of the first mask update, a stale value will be written to the mask register. If this causes an IRQ to become unmasked that cannot have its status cleared by writing a 1 to it in the IREG register, e.g. the SDIO IRQ, then we can end up stuck with the same IRQ repeatedly being fired but not handled. Normally the MMC IRQ handler attempts to clear any unexpected IRQs by writing IREG, but for those that cannot be cleared in this way then the IRQ will just repeatedly fire. This was resulting in lockups after a while of using Wi-Fi on the CI20 (GitHub issue #19). Resolve by holding the spinlock until after the IMASK register has been updated. 2018-03-24mmc: avoid removing non-removable hosts during suspendDaniel Drake1-0/+8
[ Upstream commit de8dcc3d2c0e08e5068ee1e26fc46415c15e3637 ] The Weibu F3C MiniPC has an onboard AP6255 module, presenting two SDIO functions on a single MMC host (Bluetooth/btsdio and WiFi/brcmfmac), and the mmc layer correctly detects this as non-removable. After suspend/resume, the wifi and bluetooth interfaces disappear and do not get probed again. The conditions here are: 1. During suspend, we reach mmc_pm_notify() 2. mmc_pm_notify() calls mmc_sdio_pre_suspend() to see if we can suspend the SDIO host. However, mmc_sdio_pre_suspend() returns -ENOSYS because btsdio_driver does not have a suspend method. 3. mmc_pm_notify() proceeds to remove the card 4. Upon resume, mmc_rescan() does nothing with this host, because of the rescan_entered check which aims to only scan a non-removable device a single time (i.e. during boot). Fix the loss of functionality by detecting that we are unable to suspend a non-removable host, so avoid the forced removal in that case. The comment above this function already indicates that this code was only intended for removable devices. 2017-10-08mmc: sdio: fix alignment issue in struct sdio_funcHeiner Kallweit1-1/+11
[ Upstream commit 5ef1ecf060f28ecef313b5723f1fd39bf5a35f56 ] Certain 64-bit systems (e.g. Amlogic Meson GX) require buffers to be used for DMA to be 8-byte-aligned. struct sdio_func has an embedded small DMA buffer not meeting this requirement. When testing switching to descriptor chain mode in meson-gx driver SDIO is broken therefore. Fix this by allocating the small DMA buffer separately as kmalloc ensures that the returned memory area is properly aligned for every basic data type. 2017-04-22mmc: sdhci: Do not disable interrupts while waiting for clockAdrian Hunter1-1/+3
commit e2ebfb2142acefecc2496e71360f50d25726040b upstream. Disabling interrupts for even a millisecond can cause problems for some devices. That can happen when sdhci changes clock frequency because it waits for the clock to become stable under a spin lock. The spin lock is not necessary here. Anything that is racing with changes to the I/O state is already broken. The mmc core already provides synchronization via "claiming" the host. Although the spin lock probably should be removed from the code paths that lead to this point, such a patch would touch too much code to be suitable for stable trees. Consequently, for this patch, just drop the spin lock while waiting. 2017-01-15mmc: sdhci: Fix recovery from tuning timeoutAdrian Hunter1-0/+20
[ Upstream commit 61e53bd0047d58caee0c7170613045bf96de4458 ] Clearing the tuning bits should reset the tuning circuit. However there is more to do. Reset the command and data lines for good measure, and then for eMMC ensure the card is not still trying to process a tuning command by sending a stop command. Note the JEDEC eMMC specification says the stop command (CMD12) can be used to stop a tuning command (CMD21) whereas the SD specification is silent on the subject with respect to the SD tuning command (CMD19). Considering that CMD12 is not a valid SDIO command, the stop command is sent only when the tuning command is CMD21 i.e. for eMMC. That addresses cases seen so far which have been on eMMC. Note that this replaces the commit fe5fb2e3b58f ("mmc: sdhci: Reset cmd and data circuits after tuning failure") which is being reverted for v4.9+. 2016-06-07mmc: mmc: Fix partition switch timeout for some eMMCsAdrian Hunter1-0/+7
[ Upstream commit 1c447116d017a98c90f8f71c8c5a611e0aa42178 ] Some eMMCs set the partition switch timeout too low. Now typically eMMCs are considered a critical component (e.g. because they store the root file system) and consequently are expected to be reliable. Thus we can neglect the use case where eMMCs can't switch reliably and we might want a lower timeout to facilitate speedy recovery. Although we could employ a quirk for the cards that are affected (if we could identify them all), as described above, there is little benefit to having a low timeout, so instead simply set a minimum timeout. The minimum is set to 300ms somewhat arbitrarily - the examples that have been seen had a timeout of 10ms but were sometimes taking 60-70ms. 2016-04-18mmc: sdhci: Fix override of timeout clk wrt max_busy_timeoutAdrian Hunter1-3/+3
[ Upstream commit 995136247915c5cee633d55ba23f6eebf67aa567 ] Normally the timeout clock frequency is read from the capabilities register. It is also possible to set the value prior to calling sdhci_add_host() in which case that value will override the capabilities register value. However that was being done after calculating max_busy_timeout so that max_busy_timeout was being calculated using the wrong value of timeout_clk. Fix that by moving the override before max_busy_timeout is calculated. The result is that the max_busy_timeout and max_discard increase for BSW devices so that, for example, the time for mkfs.ext4 on a 64GB eMMC drops from about 1 minute 40 seconds to about 20 seconds. Note, in the future, the capabilities setting will be tidied up and this override won't be used anymore. However this fix is needed for stable. The calculation assumed: timeout in microseconds = clock cycles / clock in Hz which is clearly a several orders of magnitude wrong. Fix this by multiplying the clock cycles by 1000000 prior to dividing by the Hz based clock. Also, as per part 1, ensure that the division rounds up. As this needs 64-bit math via do_div(), avoid it if the clock cycles is zero. [ Upstream commit 5c671c410c8704800f4f1673b6f572137e7e6ddd ] sdhci has a legacy facility to prevent runtime suspend if the bus power is on. This is needed in cases where the power to the card is dependent on the bus power. It is controlled by a pair of functions: sdhci_runtime_pm_bus_on() and sdhci_runtime_pm_bus_off(). These functions use a boolean variable 'bus_on' to ensure changes are always paired. There is an additional check for 'runtime_suspended' which is the problem. In fact, its use is ill-conceived as the only requirement for the logic is that 'on' and 'off' are paired, which is actually broken by the check, for example if the bus power is turned on during runtime resume. So remove the check. Fix by passing the card's ocr value which does not have the flag. 2015-08-04mmc: card: Fixup request missing in mmc_blk_issue_rw_rqDing Wang1-3/+5
[ Upstream commit 29535f7b797df35cc9b6b3bca635591cdd3dd2a8 ] The current handler of MMC_BLK_CMD_ERR in mmc_blk_issue_rw_rq function may cause new coming request permanent missing when the ongoing request (previoulsy started) complete end. The problem scenario is as follows: (1) Request A is ongoing; (2) Request B arrived, and finally mmc_blk_issue_rw_rq() is called; (3) Request A encounters the MMC_BLK_CMD_ERR error; (4) In the error handling of MMC_BLK_CMD_ERR, suppose mmc_blk_cmd_err() end request A completed and return zero. Continue the error handling, suppose mmc_blk_reset() reset device success; (5) Continue the execution, while loop completed because variable ret is zero now; (6) Finally, mmc_blk_issue_rw_rq() return without processing request B. The process related to the missing request may wait that IO request complete forever, possibly crashing the application or hanging the system. Fix this issue by starting new request when reset success. 2015-07-05mmc: sdhci-pxav3: do the mbus window configuration after enabling clocksThomas Petazzoni1-11/+10
[ upstream commit aa8165f914420f143476305a01894b017d3abe6b ] In commit 5491ce3f79ee ("mmc: sdhci-pxav3: add support for the Armada 38x SDHCI controller"), the sdhci-pxav3 driver was extended to include support for the SDHCI controller found in the Armada 38x processor. This mainly involved adding some MBus window related configuration. However, this configuration is currently done too early in ->probe(): it is done before clocks are enabled, while this configuration involves touching the registers of the controller, which will hang the SoC if the clock is disabled. It wasn't noticed until now because the bootloader typically leaves gatable clocks enabled, but in situations where we have a deferred probe (due to a CD GPIO that cannot be taken, for example), then the probe will be re-tried later, after a clock disable has been done in the exit path of the failed probe attempt of the device. This second probe() will hang the system due to the clock being disabled. This can for example be produced on Armada 385 GP, which has a CD GPIO connected to an I2C PCA9555. If the driver for the PCA9555 is not compiled into the kernel, then we will have the following sequence of events: 1. The SDHCI probes 2. It does the MBus configuration (which works, because the clock is left enabled by the bootloader) 3. It enables the clock 4. It tries to get the CD GPIO, which fails due to the driver being missing, so -EPROBE_DEFER is returned. 5. Before returning -EPROBE_DEFER, the driver cleans up what was done, which includes disabling the clock. 6. Later on, the SDHCI probe is tried again. 7. It does the MBus configuration, which hangs because the clock is no longer enabled. This commit does the obvious fix of doing the MBus configuration after the clock has been enabled by the driver. [ Upstream commit bad4371d87d1d1ed1aecd9c9cc21c41ac3f289c8 ] f9fd54f22e ("mmc: sh_mmcif: Use msecs_to_jiffies() for host->timeout") changed the timeout value from 1000 jiffies to 1s. In the case where HZ is 1000 the values are the same. However, for smaller HZ values the timeout is now smaller, 1s instead of 10s in the case of HZ=100. Since the timeout occurs in spite of a normal data transfer a timeout of 10s seems more appropriate. This restores the previous timeout in the case where HZ=100 and results in an increase over the previous timeout for larger values of HZ.
