2024-02-15igc: Add support for LEDs on i225/i226Kurt Kanzenbach1-0/+8
Add support for LEDs on i225/i226. The LEDs can be controlled via sysfs from user space using the netdev trigger. The LEDs are named as igc-<bus><device>-<led> to be easily identified. Offloading link speed and activity are supported. Other modes are simulated in software by using on/off. Tested on Intel i225. Add support for SRIOV: send the requested number of VFs to the device Control Plane, via the virtchnl message and then enable the VFs using 'pci_enable_sriov'. Add other ndo ops supported by the driver such as features_check, set_rx_mode, validate_addr, set_mac_address, change_mtu, get_stats64, set_features, and tx_timeout. Initialize the statistics task which requests the queue related statistics to the CP. Add loopback and promiscuous mode support and the respective virtchnl messages. Finally, add documentation and build support for the driver. 2023-02-26ice: remove unnecessary CONFIG_ICE_GNSSJacob Keller1-3/+1
CONFIG_ICE_GNSS was added by commit c7ef8221ca7d ("ice: use GNSS subsystem instead of TTY") as a way to allow the ice driver to optionally support GNSS features without forcing a dependency on CONFIG_GNSS. The original implementation of that commit at [1] used IS_REACHABLE. This was rejected by Olek at [2] with the suggested implementation of CONFIG_ICE_GNSS. Eventually after merging, Linus reported a .config which had CONFIG_ICE_GNSS = y when both GNSS = n and ICE = n. This confused him and he felt that the config option was not useful, and commented about it at [3]. CONFIG_ICE_GNSS is defined to y whenever GNSS = ICE. This results in it being set in cases where both options are not enabled. The goal of CONFIG_ICE_GNSS is to ensure that the GNSS support in the ice driver is enabled when GNSS is enabled. The complaint from Olek about the original IS_REACHABLE was due to the required IS_REACHABLE checks throughout the ice driver code and the fact that ice_gnss.c was compiled regardless of GNSS support. This can be fixed in the Makefile by using ice-$(CONFIG_GNSS) += ice_gnss.o In this case, if GNSS = m and ICE = y, we can result in some confusing behavior where GNSS support is not enabled because its not built in. See [4]. To disallow this, have CONFIG_ICE depend on GNSS || GNSS = n. This ensures that we cannot enable CONFIG_ICE as builtin while GNSS is a module. Drop CONFIG_ICE_GNSS, and replace the IS_ENABLED checks for it with checks for GNSS. Update the Makefile to add the ice_gnss.o object based on CONFIG_GNSS. This works to ensure that GNSS support can optionally be enabled, doesn't have an unnnecessary extra config option, and has Kbuild enforce the dependency such that you can't accidentally enable GNSS as a module and ICE as a builtin. 2023-01-20ice: use GNSS subsystem instead of TTYArkadiusz Kubalewski1-0/+3
Previously support for GNSS was implemented as a TTY driver, it allowed to access GNSS receiver on /dev/ttyGNSS_<bus><func>. Use generic GNSS subsystem API instead of implementing own TTY driver. The receiver is accessible on /dev/gnss<id>. In case of multiple receivers in the OS, correct device can be found by enumerating either: - /sys/class/net/<eth port>/device/gnss/ - /sys/class/gnss/gnss<id>/device/ Using GNSS subsystem is superior to implementing own TTY driver, as the GNSS subsystem was designed solely for this purpose. It also implements TTY driver but in a common and defined way. From user perspective, there is no difference in communicating with a device, except new path to the device shall be used. The device will provide same information to the userspace as the old one, and can be used in the same way, i.e.: old # gpsmon /dev/ttyGNSS_2100_0 new # gpsmon /dev/gnss0 There is no other impact on userspace tools. User expecting onboard GNSS receiver support is required to enable CONFIG_GNSS=y/m in kernel config. 2021-12-21ice: support crosstimestamping on E822 devices if supportedJacob Keller1-0/+10
E822 devices on supported platforms can generate a cross timestamp between the platform ART and the device time. This process allows for very precise measurement of the difference between the PTP hardware clock and the platform time. This is only supported if we know the TSC frequency relative to ART, so we do not enable this unless the boot CPU has a known TSC frequency (as required by convert_art_ns_to_tsc). Because PCIe PTM support is not available on all platforms, introduce CONFIG_ICE_HWTS and make it depend on X86 where we know the support exists. The 'imply' keyword does not do what most people think it does, it only politely asks Kconfig to turn on another symbol, but does not prevent it from being disabled manually or built as a loadable module when the user is built-in. I'm providing a link to the previous email thread for reference, which discusses some related problems. To solve the dependency issue better than the 'imply' keyword, introduce a separate Kconfig symbol "CONFIG_PTP_1588_CLOCK_OPTIONAL" that any driver can depend on if it is able to use PTP support when available, but works fine without it. Whenever CONFIG_PTP_1588_CLOCK=m, those drivers are then prevented from being built-in, the same way as with a 'depends on PTP_1588_CLOCK || !PTP_1588_CLOCK' dependency that does the same trick, but that can be rather confusing when you first see it. Since this should cover the dependencies correctly, the IS_REACHABLE() hack in the header is no longer needed now, and can be turned back into a normal IS_ENABLED() check. Any driver that gets the dependency wrong will now cause a link time failure rather than being unable to use PTP support when that is in a loadable module. However, the two recently added ptp_get_vclocks_index() and ptp_convert_timestamp() interfaces are only called from builtin code with ethtool and socket timestamps, so keep the current behavior by stubbing those out completely when PTP is in a loadable module. This should be addressed properly in a follow-up. As Richard suggested, we may want to actually turn PTP support into a 'bool' option later on, preventing it from being a loadable module altogether, which would be one way to solve the problem with the ethtool interface. Add a new ice_ptp.c file for holding the basic PTP clock interface functions. If the device supports PTP, call the new ice_ptp_init and ice_ptp_release functions where appropriate. If the function owns the hardware resource associated with the PTP hardware clock, register with the PTP_1588_CLOCK infrastructure to allocate a new clock object that represents the device hardware clock. 2021-04-15ice: replace custom AIM algorithm with kernel's DIM libraryJacob Keller1-0/+1
The ice driver has support for adaptive interrupt moderation, an algorithm for tuning the interrupt rate dynamically. This algorithm is based on various assumptions about ring size, socket buffer size, link speed, SKB overhead, ethernet frame overhead and more. The Linux kernel has support for a dynamic interrupt moderation algorithm known as "dimlib". Replace the custom driver-specific implementation of dynamic interrupt moderation with the kernel's algorithm. The Intel hardware has a different hardware implementation than the originators of the dimlib code had to work with, which requires the driver to use a slightly different set of inputs for the actual moderation values, while getting all the advice from dimlib of better/worse, shift left or right. The change made for this implementation is to use a pair of values for each of the 5 "slots" that the dimlib moderation expects, and the driver will program those pairs when dimlib recommends a slot to use. The currently implementation uses two tables, one for receive and one for transmit, and the pairs of values in each slot set the maximum delay of an interrupt and a maximum number of interrupts per second (both expressed in microseconds). There are two separate kinds of bugs fixed by using DIMLIB, one is UDP single stream send was too slow, and the other is that 8K ping-pong was going to the most aggressive moderation and has much too high latency. The overall result of using DIMLIB is that we meet or exceed our performance expectations set based on the old algorithm. 2020-07-29ice: implement device flash update via devlinkJacob Keller1-0/+1
Use the newly added pldmfw library to implement device flash update for the Intel ice networking device driver. This support uses the devlink flash update interface. The main parts of the flash include the Option ROM, the netlist module, and the main NVM data. The PLDM firmware file contains modules for each of these components. Using the pldmfw library, the provided firmware file will be scanned for the three major components, "fw.undi" for the Option ROM, "fw.mgmt" for the main NVM module containing the primary device firmware, and "fw.netlist" containing the netlist module. The flash is separated into two banks, the active bank containing the running firmware, and the inactive bank which we use for update. Each module is updated in a staged process. First, the inactive bank is erased, preparing the device for update. Second, the contents of the component are copied to the inactive portion of the flash. After all components are updated, the driver signals the device to switch the active bank during the next EMP reset (which would usually occur during the next reboot). Although the firmware AdminQ interface does report an immediate status for each command, the NVM erase and NVM write commands receive status asynchronously. The driver must not continue writing until previous erase and write commands have finished. The real status of the NVM commands is returned over the receive AdminQ. Implement a simple interface that uses a wait queue so that the main update thread can sleep until the completion status is reported by firmware. For erasing the inactive banks, this can take quite a while in practice. To help visualize the process to the devlink application and other applications based on the devlink netlink interface, status is reported via the devlink_flash_update_status_notify. While we do report status after each 4k block when writing, there is no real status we can report during erasing. We simply must wait for the complete module erasure to finish. Begin implementing support for the devlink interface with the ice driver. The pf structure is currently memory managed through devres, via a devm_alloc. To mimic this behavior, after allocating the devlink pointer, use devm_add_action to add a teardown action for releasing the devlink memory on exit. The ice hardware is a multi-function PCIe device. Thus, each physical function will get its own devlink instance. This means that each function will be treated independently, with its own parameters and configuration. This is done because the ice driver loads a separate instance for each function. Due to this, the implementation does not enable devlink to manage device-wide resources or configuration, as each physical function will be treated independently. This is done for simplicity, as managing a devlink instance across multiple driver instances would significantly increase the complexity for minimal gain. The new ability added to the driver to use mii_bus to handle MII related ioctls is causing compile issues when the driver is compiled into the kernel (i.e. not a module). The problem was in selecting MDIO_DEVICE instead of the preferred PHYLIB Kconfig option. The reason being that MDIO_DEVICE had a dependency on PHYLIB and would be compiled as a module when PHYLIB was a module, no matter whether ixgbe was compiled into the kernel. When XFRM_ALGO is not enabled, the new ixgbe IPsec code produces a link error: drivers/net/ethernet/intel/ixgbe/ixgbe_ipsec.o: In function `ixgbe_ipsec_vf_add_sa': ixgbe_ipsec.c:(.text+0x1266): undefined reference to `xfrm_aead_get_byname' Simply selecting XFRM_ALGO from here causes circular dependencies, so to fix it, we probably want this slightly more complex solution that is similar to what other drivers with XFRM offload do: A separate Kconfig symbol now controls whether we include the IPsec offload code. To keep the old behavior, this is left as 'default y'. The dependency in XFRM_OFFLOAD still causes a circular dependency but is not actually needed because this symbol is not user visible, so removing that dependency on top makes it all work. Basically this is the simplest patch that gets the rename done and will be followed by other patches that rename the internal functions. 2016-11-16ptp_clock: Allow for it to be optionalNicolas Pitre1-5/+5
In order to break the hard dependency between the PTP clock subsystem and ethernet drivers capable of being clock providers, this patch provides simple PTP stub functions to allow linkage of those drivers into the kernel even when the PTP subsystem is configured out. Drivers must be ready to accept NULL from ptp_clock_register() in that case. And to make it possible for PTP to be configured out, the select statement in those driver's Kconfig menu entries is converted to the new "imply" statement. This way the PTP subsystem may have Kconfig dependencies of its own, such as POSIX_TIMERS, without having to make those ethernet drivers unavailable if POSIX timers are cconfigured out. And when support for POSIX timers is selected again then the default config option for PTP clock support will automatically be adjusted accordingly. The pch_gbe driver is a bit special as it relies on extra code in drivers/ptp/ptp_pch.c. Therefore we let the make process descend into drivers/ptp/ even if PTP_1588_CLOCK is unselected. This change replaces the network device operations for adding or removing a VXLAN port with operations that are more generically defined to be used for any UDP offload port but provide a type. As such by just adding a line to verify that the offload type is VXLAN we can maintain the same functionality. In addition I updated the socket address family check so that instead of excluding IPv6 we instead abort of type is not IPv4. This makes much more sense as we should only be supporting IPv4 outer addresses on this hardware. The last change is that I pulled the rtnl_lock/unlock into the conditional statement for IXGBE_FLAG2_VXLAN_REREG_NEEDED. The motivation behind this is to avoid unneeded bouncing of the mutex which will just slow down the handling of this call anyway. Just keep a generic pointer to http://support.intel.com. Hopefully, this one will have a longer live. It still works, at least. We are not doing end users any favours by pointing them at this old document, so lets kill it with fire, once and for all, to hopefully stop any further spread.
