2023-10-19i40e: use scnprintf over strncpy+strncatJustin Stitt1-4/+3
`strncpy` is deprecated for use on NUL-terminated destination strings [1] and as such we should prefer more robust and less ambiguous string interfaces. Moreover, `strncat` shouldn't really be used either as per fortify-string.h: * Do not use this function. While FORTIFY_SOURCE tries to avoid * read and write overflows, this is only possible when the sizes * of @p and @q are known to the compiler. Prefer building the * string with formatting, via scnprintf() or similar. Instead, use `scnprintf` with "%s%s" format string. This code is now more readable and robust. 2023-10-19intel: fix format warningsJesse Brandeburg1-2/+4
Get ahead of the game and fix all the -Wformat=2 noted warnings in the intel drivers directory. There are one set of i40e and iavf warnings I couldn't figure out how to fix because the driver is already using vsnprintf without an explicit "const char *" format string. Tested with both gcc-12 and clang-15. 2023-10-15i40e: Refactor and rename i40e_read_pba_string()Ivan Vecera4-26/+39
Function i40e_read_pba_string() is currently unused but will be used by subsequent patch to provide board ID via devlink device info. The function reads PBA block from NVM so it cannot be called during adapter reset and as we would like to provide PBA ID via devlink info it is better to read the PBA ID during i40e_probe() and cache it in i40e_hw structure to avoid a waiting for potential adapter reset in devlink info callback. 2023-10-15i40e: Split and refactor i40e_nvm_version_str()Ivan Vecera3-44/+105
The function formats NVM version string according adapter's EETrackID value. If this value OEM specific (0xffffffff) then the reported version is with format: "<gen>.<snap>.<release>" and in other case "<nvm_maj>.<nvm_min> <eetrackid> <cvid_maj>.<cvid_bld>.<cvid_min>" These versions are reported in the subsequent patch in this series that implements devlink .info_get but separately. So split the function into separate ones, refactor it to use them and remove ugly static string buffer. Additionally convert NVM/OEM version mask macros to use GENMASK and use FIELD_GET/FIELD_PREP for them in i40e_nvm_version_str() and i40e_get_oem_version(). 2023-10-14i40e: prevent crash on probe if hw registers have invalid valuesMichal Schmidt1-2/+2
The hardware provides the indexes of the first and the last available queue and VF. From the indexes, the driver calculates the numbers of queues and VFs. In theory, a faulty device might say the last index is smaller than the first index. In that case, the driver's calculation would underflow, it would attempt to write to non-existent registers outside of the ioremapped range and crash. I ran into this not by having a faulty device, but by an operator error. I accidentally ran a QE test meant for i40e devices on an ice device. The test used 'echo i40e > /sys/...ice PCI device.../driver_override', bound the driver to the device and crashed in one of the wr32 calls in i40e_clear_hw. Add checks to prevent underflows in the calculations of num_queues and num_vfs. With this fix, the wrong device probing reports errors and returns a failure without crashing. 2023-10-05i40e: Remove circular header dependencies and fix headersIvan Vecera27-81/+72
Similarly as for ice driver [1] there are also circular header dependencies in i40e driver: i40e.h -> i40e_virtchnl_pf.h -> i40e.h Another issue is that i40e header files does not contain their own dependencies on other header files (both private and standard) so their inclusion in .c file require to add these deps in certain order to that .c file to make it compilable. Fix both issues by removal the mentioned circular dependency, by filling i40e headers with their dependencies so they can be placed anywhere in a source code. Additionally remove bunch of includes from i40e.h super header file that are not necessary and include i40e.h only in .c files that really require it. 2023-10-05i40e: Remove back pointer from i40e_hw structureIvan Vecera4-11/+31
The .back field placed in i40e_hw is used to get pointer to i40e_pf instance but it is not necessary as the i40e_hw is a part of i40e_pf and containerof macro can be used to obtain the pointer to i40e_pf. As the comment in struct rtnl_link_stats64, rx_dropped should not include packets dropped by the device due to buffer exhaustion. They are counted in rx_missed_errors, procfs folds those two counters together. 2023-09-15i40e: Fix VF VLAN offloading when port VLAN is configuredIvan Vecera1-3/+5
If port VLAN is configured on a VF then any other VLANs on top of this VF are broken. During i40e_ndo_set_vf_port_vlan() call the i40e driver reset the VF and iavf driver asks PF (using VIRTCHNL_OP_GET_VF_RESOURCES) for VF capabilities but this reset occurs too early, prior setting of vf->info.pvid field and because this field can be zero during i40e_vc_get_vf_resources_msg() then VIRTCHNL_VF_OFFLOAD_VLAN capability is reported to iavf driver. This is wrong because iavf driver should not report VLAN offloading capability when port VLAN is configured as i40e does not support QinQ offloading. Fix the issue by moving VF reset after setting of vf->port_vlan_id field. Unfortunately, a VM can run a different kernel than the host, meaning that those structures are sorta ABI. However, it is possible to have proper flex arrays + struct_size() calculations and still send the very same messages with the same sizes. The common rule is: elem[1] -> elem[] size = struct_size() + <difference between the old and the new msg size> The "old" size in the current code is calculated 3 different ways for 10 virtchnl structures total. Each commit addresses one of the ways cumulatively instead of per-structure. I was planning to send it to -net initially, but given that virtchnl was renamed from i40evf and got some fat style cleanup commits in the past, it's not very straightforward to even pick appropriate SHAs, not speaking of automatic portability. I may send manual backports for a couple of the latest supported kernels later on if anyone needs it at all. There are five virtchnl structures, which are allocated and checked in the code as `nents + 1`, meaning that they always have memory for one excessive element regardless of their actual number. This comes from that their sizeof() includes space for 1 element and then they get allocated via struct_size() or its open-coded equivalents, passing the actual number of elements. Expand virtchnl_struct_size() to handle such structures and replace those 1-elem arrays with proper flex ones. Also fix several places which open-code %IAVF_VIRTCHNL_VF_RESOURCE_SIZE. Finally, let the virtchnl_ether_addr_list size be computed automatically when there's no enough space for the whole list, otherwise we have to open-code reverse struct_size() logics. This patch is inspired from the multi-buffer support in non-zc path for i40e as well as from the patch to support zc on ice. Each subsequent frag is added to skb_shared_info of the first frag for possible xdp_prog use as well to xsk buffer list for accessing the buffers in af_xdp. For XDP_PASS, new pages are allocated for frags and contents are copied from memory backed by xsk_buff_pool. Replace next_to_clean with next_to_process as done in non-zc path and advance it for every buffer and change the semantics of next_to_clean to point to the first buffer of a packet. Driver will use next_to_process in the same way next_to_clean was used previously. For the non multi-buffer case, next_to_process and next_to_clean will always be the same since each packet consists of a single buffer. 2023-07-14i40e: Wait for pending VF reset in VF set callbacksIvan Vecera1-11/+5
Commit 028daf80117376 ("i40e: Fix attach VF to VM issue") fixed a race between i40e_ndo_set_vf_mac() and i40e_reset_vf() during an attachment of VF device to VM. This issue is not related to setting MAC address only but also VLAN assignment to particular VF because the newer libvirt sets configured MAC address as well as an optional VLAN. The same behavior is also for i40e's .ndo_set_vf_rate and .ndo_set_vf_spoofchk where the callbacks just check if the VF was initialized but not wait for the finish of pending reset. Fix accessing vsi->active_filters without holding the mac_filter_hash_lock. Move vsi->active_filters = 0 inside critical section and move clear_bit(__I40E_VSI_OVERFLOW_PROMISC, vsi->state) after the critical section to ensure the new filters from other threads can be added only after filters cleaning in the critical section is finished.
