The driver should ensure that same priority is not mapped to multiple rx queues. 2024-02-28stmmac: Clear variable when destroying workqueueJakub Raczynski1-1/+3
Currently when suspending driver and stopping workqueue it is checked whether workqueue is not NULL and if so, it is destroyed. Function destroy_workqueue() does drain queue and does clear variable, but it does not set workqueue variable to NULL. This can cause kernel/module panic if code attempts to clear workqueue that was not initialized. This scenario is possible when resuming suspended driver in stmmac_resume(), because there is no handling for failed stmmac_hw_setup(), which can fail and return if DMA engine has failed to initialize, and workqueue is initialized after DMA engine. Should DMA engine fail to initialize, resume will proceed normally, but interface won't work and TX queue will eventually timeout, causing 'Reset adapter' error. This then does destroy workqueue during reset process. And since workqueue is initialized after DMA engine and can be skipped, it will cause kernel/module panic. To secure against this possible crash, set workqueue variable to NULL when destroying workqueue. 2024-02-28net: stmmac: dwmac-qcom-ethqos: Update link clock rate only for RGMIISarosh Hasan1-0/+3
Updating link clock rate for different speeds is only needed when using RGMII, as that mode requires changing clock speed when the link speed changes. Let's restrict updating the link clock speed in ethqos_update_link_clk() to just RGMII. Other modes such as SGMII only need to enable the link clock (which is already done in probe). 2024-02-27net: stmmac: mmc_core: Drop interrupt registers from statsJesper Nilsson3-9/+0
The MMC IPC interrupt status and interrupt mask registers are of little use as Ethernet statistics, but incrementing counters based on the current interrupt and interrupt mask registers makes them actively misleading. For example, if the interrupt mask is set to 0x08420842, the current code will increment by that amount each iteration, leading to the following sequence of nonsense: mmc_rx_ipc_intr_mask: 969816526 mmc_rx_ipc_intr_mask: 1108361744 These registers have been included in the Ethernet statistics since the first version of MMC back in 2011 (commit 1c901a46d57). That commit also mentions the MMC interrupts as "something to add later (if actually useful)". If the registers are actually useful, they should probably be part of the Ethernet register dump instead of statistics, but for now, drop the counters for mmc_rx_ipc_intr and mmc_rx_ipc_intr_mask completely. Serdes phy needs to operate at 2500 mode for 2.5G speed and 1000 mode for 1G/100M/10M speed. Added changes to configure serdes phy and mac based on link speed. Changing serdes phy speed involves multiple register writes for serdes block. To avoid redundant write operations only update serdes phy when new speed is different. For 2500 speed MAC PCS autoneg needs to disabled. Added changes to disable MAC PCS autoneg if ANE parameter is not set. 2024-02-17net: stmmac: Fix incorrect dereference in interrupt handlersPavel Sakharov1-20/+0
If 'dev' or 'data' is NULL, the 'priv' variable has an incorrect address when dereferencing calling netdev_err(). Since we get as 'dev_id' or 'data' what was passed as the 'dev' argument to request_irq() during interrupt initialization (that is, the net_device and rx/tx queue pointers initialized at the time of the call) and since there are usually no checks for the 'dev_id' argument in such handlers in other drivers, remove these checks from the handlers in stmmac driver. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with SVACE. 2024-02-13net: stmmac: xgmac: use #define for string constantsSimon Horman1-34/+35
The cited commit introduces and uses the string constants dpp_tx_err and dpp_rx_err. These are assigned to constant fields of the array dwxgmac3_error_desc. It has been reported that on GCC 6 and 7.5.0 this results in warnings such as: .../dwxgmac2_core.c:836:20: error: initialiser element is not constant { true, "TDPES0", dpp_tx_err }, I have been able to reproduce this using: GCC 7.5.0, 8.4.0, 9.4.0 and 10.5.0. But not GCC 13.2.0. So it seems this effects older compilers but not newer ones. As Jon points out in his report, the minimum compiler supported by the kernel is GCC 5.1, so it does seem that this ought to be fixed. It is not clear to me what combination of 'const', if any, would address this problem. So this patch takes of using #defines for the string constants Compile tested only. TSO and TBS cannot co-exist. TBS requires special descriptor to be allocated at bootup. Initialising Tx queues at probe to support TSO and TBS can help in allocating those resources at bootup. TX queues with TBS can support etf qdisc hw offload. 2024-02-07net: stmmac: remove eee_enabled/eee_active in stmmac_ethtool_op_get_eee()Russell King (Oracle)1-2/+0
stmmac_ethtool_op_get_eee() sets both eee_enabled and eee_active, and then goes on to call phylink_ethtool_get_eee(). phylink_ethtool_get_eee() will return -EOPNOTSUPP if there is no PHY present, otherwise calling phy_ethtool_get_eee() which in turn will call genphy_c45_ethtool_get_eee(). genphy_c45_ethtool_get_eee() will overwrite eee_enabled and eee_active with its own interpretation from the PHYs settings and negotiation result. Thus, when there is no PHY, stmmac_ethtool_op_get_eee() will fail with -EOPNOTSUPP, meaning eee_enabled and eee_active will not be returned to userspace. When there is a PHY, eee_enabled and eee_active will be overwritten by phylib, making the setting of these members in stmmac_ethtool_op_get_eee() entirely unnecessary. Remove this code, thus simplifying stmmac_ethtool_op_get_eee(). 2024-02-07net: stmmac: protect updates of 64-bit statistics countersPetr Tesarik7-157/+221
As explained by a comment in <linux/u64_stats_sync.h>, write side of struct u64_stats_sync must ensure mutual exclusion, or one seqcount update could be lost on 32-bit platforms, thus blocking readers forever. Such lockups have been observed in real world after stmmac_xmit() on one CPU raced with stmmac_napi_poll_tx() on another CPU. To fix the issue without introducing a new lock, split the statics into three parts: 1. fields updated only under the tx queue lock, 2. fields updated only during NAPI poll, 3. fields updated only from interrupt context, Updates to fields in the first two groups are already serialized through other locks. It is sufficient to split the existing struct u64_stats_sync so that each group has its own. Note that tx_set_ic_bit is updated from both contexts. Split this counter so that each context gets its own, and calculate their sum to get the total value in stmmac_get_ethtool_stats(). For the third group, multiple interrupts may be processed by different CPUs at the same time, but interrupts on the same CPU will not nest. Move fields from this group to a newly created per-cpu struct stmmac_pcpu_stats. 2024-01-31ethtool: replace struct ethtool_eee with a new struct ethtool_keee on kernel ↵Heiner Kallweit1-2/+2
side In order to pass EEE link modes beyond bit 32 to userspace we have to complement the 32 bit bitmaps in struct ethtool_eee with linkmode bitmaps. Therefore, similar to ethtool_link_settings and ethtool_link_ksettings, add a struct ethtool_keee. In a first step it's an identical copy of ethtool_eee. This patch simply does a s/ethtool_eee/ethtool_keee/g for all users. No functional change intended. Window_drops count include count of frames dropped because of queueMaxSDU setting and HLBF error. Transmission overrun counter inform the user application whether any packets are currently being transmitted on a particular queue during a gate-close event.DWMAC IPs takes care Transmission overrun won't happen hence this is always 0. otherwise the synopsys_id value may be read out wrong, because the GMAC_VERSION register might still be in reset state, for at least 1 us after the reset is de-asserted. Add a wait for 10 us before continuing to be on the safe side. > From what have you got that delay value? Just try and error, with very old linux versions and old gcc versions the synopsys_id was read out correctly most of the time (but not always), with recent linux versions and recnet gcc versions it was read out wrongly most of the time, but again not always. I don't have access to the VHDL code in question, so I cannot tell why it takes so long to get the correct values, I also do not have more than a few hardware samples, so I cannot tell how long this timeout must be in worst case. Experimentally I can tell that the register is read several times as zero immediately after the reset is de-asserted, also adding several no-ops is not enough, adding a printk is enough, also udelay(1) seems to be enough but I tried that not very often, and I have not access to many hardware samples to be 100% sure about the necessary delay. And since the udelay here is only executed once per device instance, it seems acceptable to delay the boot for 10 us. BTW: my hardware's synopsys id is 0x37. Some DSA tagging protocols change the EtherType field in the MAC header e.g. DSA_TAG_PROTO_(DSA/EDSA/BRCM/MTK/RTL4C_A/SJA1105). On TX these tagged frames are ignored by the checksum offload engine and IP header checker of some stmmac cores. On RX, the stmmac driver wrongly assumes that checksums have been computed for these tagged packets, and sets CHECKSUM_UNNECESSARY. Add an additional check in the stmmac TX and RX hotpaths so that COE is deactivated for packets with ethertypes that will not trigger the COE and IP header checks. Currently a MDIO bus is created if the devicetree description is either: 1. Not fixed-link 2. fixed-link but contains a MDIO bus as well The "1" case above isn't always accurate. If there's a phy-handle, it could be referencing a phy on another MDIO controller's bus[1]. In this case, where the MDIO bus is not described at all, currently stmmac will make a MDIO bus and scan its address space to discover phys (of which there are none). This process takes time scanning a bus that is known to be empty, delaying time to complete probe. There are also a lot of upstream devicetrees[2] that expect a MDIO bus to be created, scanned for phys, and the first one found connected to the MAC. This case can be inferred from the platform description by not having a phy-handle && not being fixed-link. This hits case "1" in the current driver's logic, and must be handled in any logic change here since it is a valid legacy dt-binding. Let's improve the logic to create a MDIO bus if either: - Devicetree contains a MDIO bus - !fixed-link && !phy-handle (legacy handling) This way the case where no MDIO bus should be made is handled, as well as retaining backwards compatibility with the valid cases. Below devicetree snippets can be found that explain some of the cases above more concretely. Here's[0] a devicetree example where the MAC is both fixed-link and driving a switch on MDIO (case "2" above). The get/set_rxfh ethtool ops currently takes the rxfh (RSS) parameters as direct function arguments. This will force us to change the API (and all drivers' functions) every time some new parameters are added. This is part 1/2 of the fix, as suggested in [1]: - First simplify the code by always providing a pointer to all params (indir, key and func); the fact that some of them may be NULL seems like a weird historic thing or a premature optimization. It will simplify the drivers if all pointers are always present. - Then make the functions take a dev pointer, and a pointer to a single struct wrapping all arguments. The set_* should also take an extack. Device binds to proper PCI ID (LOONGSON, 0x7a03), already listed in DTS, so checking for some other compatible does not make sense. It cannot be bound to unsupported platform. Drop useless, incorrect (space in between) and undocumented compatible.
