2020-02-21pinctrl: Use new GPIO_LINE_DIRECTIONMatti Vaittinen1-2/+4
Use newly added GPIO defines GPIO_LINE_DIRECTION_IN and GPIO_LINE_DIRECTION_OUT instead of using hard-coded 1 and 0. Main benefit is to make it easier to see which values mean IN and which OUT. As a side effect this helps GPIO framework to change the direction defines to something else if ever needed. Please note that return value from get_direction call on pinctrl-axp209 driver was changed. Previously pinctrl-axp209 might have returned value 2 for direction INPUT. 2018-06-13treewide: kzalloc() -> kcalloc()Kees Cook1-1/+1
The kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kcalloc(). This patch replaces cases of: kzalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kcalloc(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kzalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kzalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kzalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. The Coccinelle script used for this was: // Fix redundant parens around sizeof(). @@ type TYPE; expression THING, E; @@ ( kzalloc( - (sizeof(TYPE)) * E + sizeof(TYPE) * E , ...) | kzalloc( - (sizeof(THING)) * E + sizeof(THING) * E , ...) ) // Drop single-byte sizes and redundant parens. @@ expression COUNT; 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman1-0/+1
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. 2017-01-26pinctrl: Widen the generic pinconf argument from 16 to 24 bitsMika Westerberg1-1/+1
The current pinconf packed format allows only 16-bit argument limiting the maximum value 65535. For most types this is enough. However, debounce time can be in range of hundreths of milliseconds in case of mechanical switches so we cannot represent the worst case using the current format. In order to support larger values change the packed format so that the lower 8 bits are used as type which leaves 24 bits for the argument. This allows representing values up to 16777215 and debounce times up to 16 seconds. We also convert the existing users to use 32-bit integer when extracting argument from the packed configuration value. 2016-11-15pinctrl: vt8500: make bool drivers explicitly non-modularPaul Gortmaker7-81/+15
None of the Kconfigs for any of these drivers are tristate, meaning that they currently are not being built as a module by anyone. Lets remove the modular code that is essentially orphaned, so that when reading the drivers there is no doubt they are builtin-only. All drivers get the exact same change, so they are handled in batch. Changes are (1) use builtin_platform_driver, (2) use init.h header (3) delete module_exit related code, (4) delete MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE, (5) delete MODULE_LICENCE/MODULE_AUTHOR and associated tags and (6) drop ".remove" code and prevent sysfs unbind attempts to call ".remove". Once this is done, the shared remove function in wmt.[ch] is no longer used and hence it is removed as well. Since module_platform_driver() uses the same init level priority as builtin_platform_driver() the init ordering remains unchanged with this commit. Also note that MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE is a no-op for non-modular code. We also delete the MODULE_LICENSE etc. tags since all that information is already contained at the top of each file in the comments. 2015-11-19gpio: change member .dev to .parentLinus Walleij1-4/+4
The name .dev in a struct is normally reserved for a struct device that is let us say a superclass to the thing described by the struct. struct gpio_chip stands out by confusingly using a struct device *dev to point to the parent device (such as a platform_device) that represents the hardware. As we want to give gpio_chip:s real devices, this is not working. We need to rename this member to parent. This was done by two coccinelle scripts, I guess it is possible to combine them into one, but I don't know such stuff. They look like this: @@ struct gpio_chip *var; @@ -var->dev +var->parent and: @@ struct gpio_chip var; @@ -var.dev +var.parent and: @@ struct bgpio_chip *var; @@ -var->gc.dev +var->gc.parent Plus a few instances of bgpio that I couldn't figure out how to teach Coccinelle to rewrite. This patch hits all over the place, but I *strongly* prefer this solution to any piecemal approaches that just exercise patch mechanics all over the place. It mainly hits drivers/gpio and drivers/pinctrl which is my own backyard anyway. commit 2243a87d90b42eb38bc281957df3e57c712b5e56 "pinctrl: avoid duplicated calling enable_pinmux_setting for a pin" removed the .disable callback from the struct pinmux_ops, making the .enable() callback the only remaining callback. However .enable() is a bad name as it seems to imply that a muxing can also be disabled. Rename the callback to .set_mux() and also take this opportunity to clean out any remaining mentions of .disable() from the documentation. 2014-07-11pinctrl: avoid duplicated calling enable_pinmux_setting for a pinFan Wu1-12/+0
What the patch does: 1. Call pinmux_disable_setting ahead of pinmux_enable_setting each time pinctrl_select_state is called 2. Remove the HW disable operation in pinmux_disable_setting function. 3. Remove the disable ops in struct pinmux_ops 4. Remove all the disable ops users in current code base. Notes: 1. Great thanks for the suggestion from Linus, Tony Lindgren and Stephen Warren and Everyone that shared comments on this patch. 2. The patch also includes comment fixes from Stephen Warren. The reason why we do this: 1. To avoid duplicated calling of the enable_setting operation without disabling operation inbetween which will let the pin descriptor desc->mux_usecount increase monotonously. 2. The HW pin disable operation is not useful for any of the existing platforms. And this can be used to avoid the HW glitch after using the item #1 modification. In the following case, the issue can be reproduced: 1. There is a driver that need to switch pin state dynamically, e.g. between "sleep" and "default" state 2. The pin setting configuration in a DTS node may be like this: component a { pinctrl-names = "default", "sleep"; pinctrl-0 = <&a_grp_setting &c_grp_setting>; pinctrl-1 = <&b_grp_setting &c_grp_setting>; } The "c_grp_setting" config node is totally identical, maybe like following one: c_grp_setting: c_grp_setting { pinctrl-single,pins = <GPIO48 AF6>; } 3. When switching the pin state in the following official pinctrl sequence: pin = pinctrl_get(); state = pinctrl_lookup_state(wanted_state); pinctrl_select_state(state); pinctrl_put(); Test Result: 1. The switch is completed as expected, that is: the device's pin configuration is changed according to the description in the "wanted_state" group setting 2. The "desc->mux_usecount" of the corresponding pins in "c_group" is increased without being decreased, because the "desc" is for each physical pin while the setting is for each setting node in the DTS. Thus, if the "c_grp_setting" in pinctrl-0 is not disabled ahead of enabling "c_grp_setting" in pinctrl-1, the desc->mux_usecount will keep increasing without any chance to be decreased. According to the comments in the original code, only the setting, in old state but not in new state, will be "disabled" (calling pinmux_disable_setting), which is correct logic but not intact. We still need consider case that the setting is in both old state and new state. We can do this in the following two ways: 1. Avoid to "enable"(calling pinmux_enable_setting) the "same pin setting" repeatedly 2. "Disable"(calling pinmux_disable_setting) the "same pin setting", actually two setting instances, ahead of enabling them. Analysis: 1. The solution #2 is better because it can avoid too much iteration. 2. If we disable all of the settings in the old state and one of the setting(s) exist in the new state, the pins mux function change may happen when some SoC vendors defined the "pinctrl-single,function-off" in their DTS file. old_setting => disabled_setting => new_setting. 3. In the pinmux framework, when a pin state is switched, the setting in the old state should be marked as "disabled". Conclusion: 1. To Remove the HW disabling operation to above the glitch mentioned above. 2. Handle the issue mentioned above by disabling all of the settings in old state and then enable the all of the settings in new state. 2014-05-23pinctrl: vt8500: Ensure value reg is updated when setting directionAlexey Charkov1-11/+12
Current code only touches the direction register when setting direction to output, which breaks logic like echo high > /sys/class/gpio/gpio0/direction which is expected to also set the value. This patch also adds a call to update the value register when setting direction to output. 2014-02-03pinctrl: vt8500: Change devicetree data parsingTony Prisk1-1/+14
Due to an assumption in the VT8500 pinctrl driver, the value passed from devicetree for 'wm,pull' was not explicitly translated before being passed to pinconf. Since v3.10, changes to 'enum pin_config_param', PIN_CONFIG_BIAS_PULL_(UP/DOWN) no longer map 1-to-1 with the expected values in devicetree. This patch adds a small translation between the devicetree values (0..2) and the enum pin_config_param equivalent values. 2013-12-04gpio/pinctrl: make gpio_chip members typed booleanLinus Walleij1-1/+1
This switches the two members of struct gpio_chip that were defined as unsigned foo:1 to bool, because that is indeed what they are. Switch all users in the gpio and pinctrl subsystems to assign these values with true/false instead of 0/1. The users outside these subsystems will survive since true/false is 1/0, atleast we set some kind of more strict typing example. Signed-off-by: Linus Walleij <linus.walleij@linaro.org>
2013-08-28pinctrl: Pass all configs to driver on pin_config_set()Sherman Yin1-24/+30
When setting pin configuration in the pinctrl framework, pin_config_set() or pin_config_group_set() is called in a loop to set one configuration at a time for the specified pin or group. This patch 1) removes the loop and 2) changes the API to pass the whole pin config array to the driver. It is now up to the driver to loop through the configs. This allows the driver to potentially combine configs and reduce the number of writes to pin config registers. All c files changed have been build-tested to verify the change compiles and that the corresponding .o is successfully generated. This patch adds support for the GPIO/pinmux controller found on the VIA VT8500 and Wondermedia WM8xxx-series SoCs. Each pin within the controller is capable of operating as a GPIO or as an alternate function. The pins are numbered according to their control bank/bit so that if new pins are added, the existing numbering is maintained.
