2024-03-25scsi: core: Fix unremoved procfs host directory regressionGuilherme G. Piccoli1-3/+4
Commit fc663711b944 ("scsi: core: Remove the /proc/scsi/${proc_name} directory earlier") fixed a bug related to modules loading/unloading, by adding a call to scsi_proc_hostdir_rm() on scsi_remove_host(). But that led to a potential duplicate call to the hostdir_rm() routine, since it's also called from scsi_host_dev_release(). That triggered a regression report, which was then fixed by commit be03df3d4bfe ("scsi: core: Fix a procfs host directory removal regression"). The fix just dropped the hostdir_rm() call from dev_release(). But it happens that this proc directory is created on scsi_host_alloc(), and that function "pairs" with scsi_host_dev_release(), while scsi_remove_host() pairs with scsi_add_host(). In other words, it seems the reason for removing the proc directory on dev_release() was meant to cover cases in which a SCSI host structure was allocated, but the call to scsi_add_host() didn't happen. And that pattern happens to exist in some error paths, for example. Syzkaller causes that by using USB raw gadget device, error'ing on usb-storage driver, at usb_stor_probe2(). By checking that path, we can see that the BadDevice label leads to a scsi_host_put() after a SCSI host allocation, but there's no call to scsi_add_host() in such path. That leads to messages like this in dmesg (and a leak of the SCSI host proc structure): usb-storage 4-1:87.51: USB Mass Storage device detected proc_dir_entry 'scsi/usb-storage' already registered WARNING: CPU: 1 PID: 3519 at fs/proc/generic.c:377 proc_register+0x347/0x4e0 fs/proc/generic.c:376 The proper fix seems to still call scsi_proc_hostdir_rm() on dev_release(), but guard that with the state check for SHOST_CREATED; there is even a comment in scsi_host_dev_release() detailing that: such conditional is meant for cases where the SCSI host was allocated but there was no calls to {add,remove}_host(), like the usb-storage case. This is what we propose here and with that, the error path of usb-storage does not trigger the warning anymore. There are two .exit_cmd_priv implementations. Both implementations use resources associated with the SCSI host. Make sure that these resources are still available when .exit_cmd_priv is called by moving the .exit_cmd_priv calls from scsi_host_dev_release() to scsi_forget_host(). Moving blk_mq_free_tag_set() from scsi_host_dev_release() to scsi_remove_host() is safe because scsi_forget_host() waits until all SCSI devices associated with the host have been removed. 2022-04-26scsi: core: Refine how we set tag_set NUMA nodeJohn Garry1-4/+4
For SCSI hosts which enable host_tagset the NUMA node returned from blk_mq_hw_queue_to_node() is NUMA_NO_NODE always. Then, since in scsi_mq_setup_tags() the default we choose for the tag_set NUMA node is NUMA_NO_NODE, we always evaluate the NUMA node as NUMA_NO_NODE in functions like blk_mq_alloc_rq_map(). The reason we get NUMA_NO_NODE from blk_mq_hw_queue_to_node() is that the hctx_idx passed is BLK_MQ_NO_HCTX_IDX - so we can't match against a (HW) queue mapping index. Improve this by defaulting the tag_set NUMA node to the same NUMA node of the SCSI host DMA dev. 2021-11-04scsi: core: Avoid leaving shost->last_reset with stale value if EH does not runEwan D. Milne1-0/+1
The changes to issue the abort from the scmd->abort_work instead of the EH thread introduced a problem if eh_deadline is used. If aborting the command(s) is successful, and there are never any scmds added to the shost->eh_cmd_q, there is no code path which will reset the ->last_reset value back to zero. The effect of this is that after a successful abort with no EH thread activity, a subsequent timeout, perhaps a long time later, might immediately be considered past a user-set eh_deadline time, and the host will be reset with no attempt at recovery. Fix this by resetting ->last_reset back to zero in scmd_eh_abort_handler() if it is determined that the EH thread will not run to do this. Thanks to Gopinath Marappan for investigating this problem. Commit 66a834d09293 ("scsi: core: Fix error handling of scsi_host_alloc()") changed the allocation logic to call put_device() to perform host cleanup with the assumption that IDA removal and stopping the kthread would properly be performed in scsi_host_dev_release(). However, in the unlikely case that the error handler thread fails to spawn, shost->ehandler is set to ERR_PTR(-ENOMEM). The error handler cleanup code in scsi_host_dev_release() will call kthread_stop() if shost->ehandler != NULL which will always be the case whether the kthread was successfully spawned or not. In the case that it failed to spawn this has the nasty side effect of trying to dereference an invalid pointer when kthread_stop() is called. scsi_host_dev_release() only frees dev_name when host state is SHOST_CREATED. After host state has changed to SHOST_RUNNING, scsi_host_dev_release() no longer cleans up. 2021-06-08scsi: core: Fix failure handling of scsi_add_host_with_dma()Ming Lei1-8/+6
When scsi_add_host_with_dma() returns failure, the caller will call scsi_host_put(shost) to release everything allocated for this host instance. Consequently we can't also free allocated stuff in scsi_add_host_with_dma(), otherwise we will end up with a double free. Strictly speaking, host resource allocations should have been done in scsi_host_alloc(). However, the allocations may need information which is not yet provided by the driver when that function is called. So leave the allocations where they are but rely on host device's release handler to free resources. After device is initialized via device_initialize(), or its name is set via dev_set_name(), the device has to be freed via put_device(). Otherwise device name will be leaked because it is allocated dynamically in dev_set_name(). Fix the leak by replacing kfree() with put_device(). 2021-05-22scsi: core: Cap scsi_host cmd_per_lun at can_queueJohn Garry1-0/+3
The sysfs handling function sdev_store_queue_depth() enforces that the sdev queue depth cannot exceed shost can_queue. The initial sdev queue depth comes from shost cmd_per_lun. However, the LLDD may manually set cmd_per_lun to be larger than can_queue, which leads to an initial sdev queue depth greater than can_queue. Such an issue was reported in [0], which caused a hang. That has since been fixed in commit fc09acb7de31 ("scsi: scsi_debug: Fix cmd_per_lun, set to max_queue"). Stop this possibly happening for other drivers by capping shost cmd_per_lun at shost can_queue. 2019-11-02scsi: core: avoid host-wide host_busy counter for scsi_mqMing Lei1-1/+18
It isn't necessary to check the host depth in scsi_queue_rq() any more since it has been respected by blk-mq before calling scsi_queue_rq() via getting driver tag. Lots of LUNs may attach to same host and per-host IOPS may reach millions, so we should avoid expensive atomic operations on the host-wide counter in the IO path. This patch implements scsi_host_busy() via blk_mq_tagset_busy_iter() with one scsi command state for reading the count of busy IOs for scsi_mq.
