2022-08-30media: cedrus: Fix watchdog race conditionNicolas Dufresne1-2/+2
The watchdog needs to be scheduled before we trigger the decode operation, otherwise there is a risk that the decoder IRQ will be called before we have schedule the watchdog. As a side effect, the watchdog would never be cancelled and its function would be called at an inappropriate time. This was observed while running Fluster with GStreamer as a backend. Some programming error would cause the decoder IRQ to be call very quickly after the trigger. Later calls into the driver would deadlock due to the unbalanced state. 2022-07-17media: cedrus: Add error handling for failed setupJernej Skrabec1-6/+17
During decoding setup stage for complex codecs like HEVC driver can detect inconsistent values in controls or some other task, like allocating memory, can fail. Currently setup stage has no way of signalling error. Change return type of setup callback to int and if returned value is not zero, skip decoding and finish job immediately with error flag. While currently there is only one place when setup can fail, it's expected that there will be more such cases in the future, when HEVC decoding is improved. 2021-05-23media: uapi: mpeg2: Remove V4L2_CID_MPEG_VIDEO_MPEG2_SLICE_PARAMSEzequiel Garcia1-2/+0
The Hantro and Cedrus drivers work in frame-mode, meaning they expect all the slices in a picture (either frame or field structure) to be passed in each OUTPUT buffer. These two are the only V4L2 MPEG-2 stateless decoders currently supported. Given the VA-API drivers also work per-frame, coalescing all the MPEG-2 slices in a buffer before the decoding operation, it makes sense to not expect slice-mode drivers and therefore remove V4L2_CID_MPEG_VIDEO_MPEG2_SLICE_PARAMS. This is done to avoid carrying an unused interface. If needed, this control can be added without breaking backwards compatibility. Note that this would mean introducing a enumerator control to specify the decoding mode (see V4L2_CID_STATELESS_H264_DECODE_MODE). 2021-05-23media: uapi: mpeg2: Split sequence and picture parametersEzequiel Garcia1-0/+4
Typically, bitstreams are composed of a sequence header, followed by a number of picture header and picture coding extension headers. Each picture can be composed of a number of slices. Let's split the MPEG-2 uAPI to follow these semantics more closely, allowing more usage flexibility. Having these controls split up allows applications to set a sequence control at the beginning of a sequence, and then set a picture control for each frame. While here add padding fields where needed, and document the uAPI header thoroughly. Note that the V4L2_CTRL_TYPE_{} defines had to be moved because it clashes with existing ones. This is not really an issue since they will be re-defined when the controls are moved out of staging. Until now, the VP8 V4L2 API was not exported as a public API, and only defined in a private media header (media/vp8-ctrls.h). The reason for this was a concern about the API not complete and ready to support VP8 decoding hardware accelerators. After reviewing the VP8 specification in detail, and now that the API is able to support Cedrus and Hantro G1, we can consider this ready. 2020-12-03media: uapi: move H264 stateless controls out of stagingEzequiel Garcia1-6/+6
The H.264 stateless 'uAPI' was staging and marked explicitly in the V4L2 specification that it will change and is unstable. Note that these control IDs were never exported as a public API, they were only defined in kernel-local headers (h264-ctrls.h). Now, the H264 stateless controls is ready to be part of the stable uAPI. While not too late, let's rename them and re-number their control IDs, moving them to the newly created stateless control class, and updating all the drivers accordingly. VP8 in Cedrus shares same engine as H264. Note that it seems necessary to call bitstream parsing functions, to parse frame header, otherwise decoded image is garbage. This is contrary to what is driver supposed to do. However, values are not really used, so this might be acceptable. It's possible that bitstream parsing functions set some internal VPU state, which is later necessary for proper decoding. Biggest suspect is "VP8 probs update" trigger. 2020-09-01media: uapi: h264: Split prediction weight parametersEzequiel Garcia1-0/+2
The prediction weight parameters are only required under certain conditions, which depend on slice header parameters. As specified in section 7.3.3 Slice header syntax, the prediction weight table is present if: ((weighted_pred_flag && (slice_type == P || slice_type == SP)) || \ (weighted_bipred_idc == 1 && slice_type == B)) Given its size, it makes sense to move this table to its control, so applications can avoid passing it if the slice doesn't specify it. Before this change struct v4l2_ctrl_h264_slice_params was 960 bytes. With this change, it's 188 bytes and struct v4l2_ctrl_h264_pred_weight is 772 bytes. 2020-06-11media: cedrus: Program output format during each runSamuel Holland1-0/+2
Previously, the output format was programmed as part of the ioctl() handler. However, this has two problems: 1) If there are multiple active streams with different output formats, the hardware will use whichever format was set last for both streams. Similarly, an ioctl() done in an inactive context will wrongly affect other active contexts. 2) The registers are written while the device is not actively streaming. To enable runtime PM tied to the streaming state, all hardware access needs to be moved inside cedrus_device_run(). The call to cedrus_dst_format_set() is now placed just before the codec-specific callback that programs the hardware. It was reported that some cases of interleaved video decoding require using the current destination buffer as a reference. However, this is no longer possible after the move to vb2_find_timestamp because only dequeued and done buffers are considered. Add a helper in our driver that also considers the current destination buffer before resorting to vb2_find_timestamp and use it in MPEG-2. A common mistake is to assume that initializing a var with: struct foo f = { 0 }; Would initialize a zeroed struct. Actually, what this does is to initialize the first element of the struct to zero. According to C99 Standard 6.7.8.21: "If there are fewer initializers in a brace-enclosed list than there are elements or members of an aggregate, or fewer characters in a string literal used to initialize an array of known size than there are elements in the array, the remainder of the aggregate shall be initialized implicitly the same as objects that have static storage duration." So, in practice, it could zero the entire struct, but, if the first element is not an integer, it will produce warnings: drivers/staging/media/sunxi/cedrus/cedrus.c:drivers/staging/media/sunxi/cedrus/cedrus.c:78:49: warning: Using plain integer as NULL pointer drivers/staging/media/sunxi/cedrus/cedrus_dec.c:drivers/staging/media/sunxi/cedrus/cedrus_dec.c:29:35: warning: Using plain integer as NULL pointer As the right initialization would be, instead: struct foo f = { NULL }; Another way to initialize it with gcc is to use: struct foo f = {}; That seems to be a gcc extension, but clang also does the right thing, and that's a clean way for doing it. Anyway, I decided to check upstream what's the most commonly pattern. The "= {}" pattern has about 2000 entries: $ git grep -E "=\s*\{\s*\}"|wc -l 1951 The standard-C compliant pattern has about 2500 entries: $ git grep -E "=\s*\{\s*NULL\s*\}"|wc -l 137 $ git grep -E "=\s*\{\s*0\s*\}"|wc -l 2323 Meaning that developers have split options on that. So, let's opt to the simpler form. 2018-12-07media: cedrus: Remove global IRQ spin lock from the driverPaul Kocialkowski1-9/+0
We initially introduced a spin lock to ensure that the VPU registers are not accessed concurrently between our setup function and IRQ handler. The V4L2 M2M API ensures that only one decoding job runs at a time, so the interrupt signaling the end of decoding will not occur while the next picture is being configured. Spurious interrupts are taken care of in the handler, by checking that we have a valid M2M context and a decoding status available before marking the buffers as done. In addition, holding a spin lock could be problematic if non-atomic operations are required in the setup process for future codec support. As a result, remove the global IRQ spin lock. 2018-09-24media: platform: Add Cedrus VPU decoder driverPaul Kocialkowski1-0/+70
This introduces the Cedrus VPU driver that supports the VPU found in Allwinner SoCs, also known as Video Engine. It is implemented through a V4L2 M2M decoder device and a media device (used for media requests). So far, it only supports MPEG-2 decoding. Since this VPU is stateless, synchronization with media requests is required in order to ensure consistency between frame headers that contain metadata about the frame to process and the raw slice data that is used to generate the frame. This driver was made possible thanks to the long-standing effort carried out by the linux-sunxi community in the interest of reverse engineering, documenting and implementing support for the Allwinner VPU.
