If a serdev_device_driver is already loaded for a serdev_tty_port when it
gets registered by tty_port_register_device_attr_serdev() then that
driver's probe() method will be called immediately.
The serdev_device_driver's probe() method should then be able to call
serdev_device_open() successfully, but because UPF_DEAD is still dead
serdev_device_open() will fail with -ENXIO in this scenario:
serdev_device_open()
ctrl->ops->open() /* this callback being ttyport_open() */
tty->ops->open() /* this callback being uart_open() */
tty_port_open()
port->ops->activate() /* this callback being uart_port_activate() */
Find bit UPF_DEAD is set in uport->flags and fail with errno -ENXIO.
Fix this be clearing UPF_DEAD before tty_port_register_device_attr_serdev()
note this only moves up the UPD_DEAD clearing a small bit, before:
tty_port_register_device_attr_serdev();
mutex_unlock(&tty_port.mutex);
uart_port.flags &= ~UPF_DEAD;
mutex_unlock(&port_mutex);
after:
uart_port.flags &= ~UPF_DEAD;
tty_port_register_device_attr_serdev();
mutex_unlock(&tty_port.mutex);
mutex_unlock(&port_mutex);

At the default TX trigger level of 2 in non-DMA mode (meaning that an
interrupt is generated when less than 2 characters are left in the
FIFO), we have observed frequent buffer underruns at 115200 Baud on an
i.MX8M Nano. This can cause communication issues if the receiving side
expects a continuous transfer.
Increasing the level to 8 makes the UART trigger an interrupt earlier,
giving the kernel enough time to refill the FIFO, at the cost of
triggering one interrupt per ~24 instead of ~30 bytes of transmitted
data (as the i.MX UART has a 32 byte FIFO).

8250_pnp sets drvdata to line + 1 if the probe is successful. The users
of drvdata are in remove, suspend and resume callbacks, none of which
will be called if probe failed. The line acquired from drvdata can
never be zero in those functions and the checks for that can be
removed.
Eliminate also +/-1 step because all users of line subtract 1 from the
value.
These might have been leftover from legacy PM callbacks that could
be called without probe being successful.

The hrtimer for RXDMA timeout was unconditionally restarted in the RXDMA
complete handler ignoring the fact that setting up DMA may fail and PIO
is used instead. Explicitly stop the timer when DMA is completed and
only restart it when setting up DMA was successful. This makes the
intention of the timer much clearer, the driver easier to understand and
simplifies assumptions about the timer. The latter avoids race
conditions if these assumptions were not met or confused.

... and use it to limit the virtual terminals to just N_TTY. They are
kind of special, and in particular, the "con_write()" routine violates
the "writes cannot sleep" rule that some ldiscs rely on.
This avoids the
BUG: sleeping function called from invalid context at kernel/printk/printk.c:2659
when N_GSM has been attached to a virtual console, and gsmld_write()
calls con_write() while holding a spinlock, and con_write() then tries
to get the console lock.

In case the UART port is used as a console, no_console_suspend is
available in bootargs and UART port is part of a software-controlled power
domain we need to call device_set_awake_path(). This lets the power
domain core code know that this domain should not be powered off
during system suspend. Otherwise, the UART port power domain is turned off,
nothing is printed while suspending and the suspend/resume process is
blocked. This was detected on the Renesas RZ/G3S SoC while adding support
for power domains.
Based on code investigation (on v6.9-rc5), this issue is present on other
SoCs (e.g., Renesas R-Mobile A1 [1], IMX8QXP [2]) and different SoCs have
particular implementation to handle it. Due to this the patch added the
call of device_set_awake_path() in uart_suspend_port() instead of having
it in the platform specific UART driver.

- Mediatek mt7988 has broken PCIe because the wrong parent is used
- Mediatek clk drivers may deadlock when registering their clks
because the clk provider device is repeatedly runtime PM resumed
and suspended during probe and clk registration.
Resuming the clk provider device deadlocks with an ABBA deadlock
due to genpd_lock and the clk prepare_lock. The fix is to keep the
device runtime resumed while registering clks.
- Another runtime PM related deadlock, this time with disabling
unused clks during late init.
We get an ABBA deadlock where a device is runtime PM resuming (or
suspending) while the disabling of unused clks is happening in
parallel. That runtime PM action calls into the clk framework and
tries to grab the clk prepare_lock while the disabling of unused
clks holds the prepare_lock and is waiting for that runtime PM
action to complete.
The fix is to runtime resume all the clk provider devices before
grabbing the clk prepare_lock during disable unused.
- A build fix to provide an empty devm_clk_rate_exclusive_get()

The count field in struct trip_stats, representing the number of times
the zone temperature was above the trip point, needs to be incremented
in thermal_debug_tz_trip_up(), for two reasons.
First, if a trip point is crossed on the way up for the first time,
thermal_debug_update_temp() called from update_temperature() does
not see it because it has not been added to trips_crossed[] array
in the thermal zone's struct tz_debugfs object yet. Therefore, when
thermal_debug_tz_trip_up() is called after that, the trip point's
count value is 0, and the attempt to divide by it during the average
temperature computation leads to a divide error which causes the kernel
to crash. Setting the count to 1 before the division by incrementing it
fixes this problem.
Second, if a trip point is crossed on the way up, but it has been
crossed on the way up already before, its count value needs to be
incremented to make a record of the fact that the zone temperature is
above the trip now. Without doing that, if the mitigations applied
after crossing the trip cause the zone temperature to drop below its
threshold, the count will not be updated for this episode at all and
the average temperature in the trip statistics record will be somewhat
higher than it should be.

The TX and RX DMA Channels used by the driver to exchange data with CPSW
are not guaranteed to be in a clean state during driver initialization.
The Bootloader could have used the same DMA Channels without cleaning them
up in the event of failure. Thus, reset and disable the DMA Channels to
ensure that they are in a clean state before using them.

After the commit d2689b6a86b9 ("net: usb: ax88179_178a: avoid two
consecutive device resets"), reset operation, in which the default mac
address from the device is read, is not executed from bind operation and
the random address, that is pregenerated just in case, is direclty written
the first time in the device, so the default one from the device is not
even read. This writing is not dangerous because is volatile and the
default mac address is not missed.
In order to avoid this and keep the simplification to have only one
reset and reduce the delays, restore the reset from bind operation and
remove the reset that is commanded from open operation. The behavior is
the same but everything is ready for usbnet_probe.
Tested with ASIX AX88179 USB Gigabit Ethernet devices.
Restore the old behavior for the rest of possible devices because I don't
have the hardware to test.

- The input subsystem contributes entropy in some places where a

just calling queue_work() unconditionally.

This reverts commit ad6bcdad2b6724e113f191a12f859a9e8456b26d. I had
nak'd it, and Greg said on the thread that it links that he wasn't going
to take it either, especially since it's not his code or his tree, but
then, seemingly accidentally, it got pushed up some months later, in
what looks like a mistake, with no further discussion in the linked
thread. So revert it, since it's clearly not intended.
