2016-12-24Replace <asm/uaccess.h> with <linux/uaccess.h> globallyLinus Torvalds8-8/+8
This was entirely automated, using the script by Al: PATT='^[[:blank:]]*#[[:blank:]]*include[[:blank:]]*<asm/uaccess.h>' sed -i -e "s!$PATT!#include <linux/uaccess.h>!" \ $(git grep -l "$PATT"|grep -v ^include/linux/uaccess.h) to do the replacement at the end of the merge window. 2016-12-18Merge uncontroversial parts of branch 'readlink' of ↵Linus Torvalds1-1/+0
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mszeredi/vfs Pull partial readlink cleanups from Miklos Szeredi. This is the uncontroversial part of the readlink cleanup patch-set that simplifies the default readlink handling. Miklos and Al are still discussing the rest of the series. * git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mszeredi/vfs: vfs: make generic_readlink() static vfs: remove ".readlink = generic_readlink" assignments vfs: default to generic_readlink() vfs: replace calling i_op->readlink with vfs_readlink() proc/self: use generic_readlink ecryptfs: use vfs_get_link() bad_inode: add missing i_op initializers

2016-12-05[iov_iter] new primitives - copy_from_iter_full() and friendsAl Viro1-1/+1
copy_from_iter_full(), copy_from_iter_full_nocache() and csum_and_copy_from_iter_full() - counterparts of copy_from_iter() et.al., advancing iterator only in case of successful full copy and returning whether it had been successful or not. Convert some obvious users. *NOTE* - do not blindly assume that something is a good candidate for those unless you are sure that not advancing iov_iter in failure case is the right thing in this case. Anything that does short read/short write kind of stuff (or is in a loop, etc.) is unlikely to be a good one. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>

2016-09-27fs: make remaining filesystems use .rename2Miklos Szeredi1-3/+7
This is trivial to do: - add flags argument to foo_rename() - check if flags is zero - assign foo_rename() to .rename2 instead of .rename This doesn't mean it's impossible to support RENAME_NOREPLACE for these filesystems, but it is not trivial, like for local filesystems. RENAME_NOREPLACE must guarantee atomicity (i.e. it shouldn't be possible for a file to be created on one host while it is overwritten by rename on another host). Filesystems converted: 9p, afs, ceph, coda, ecryptfs, kernfs, lustre, ncpfs, nfs, ocfs2, orangefs. After this, we can get rid of the duplicate interfaces for rename. 2016-06-11vfs: make the string hashes salt the hashLinus Torvalds1-1/+1
We always mixed in the parent pointer into the dentry name hash, but we did it late at lookup time. It turns out that we can simplify that lookup-time action by salting the hash with the parent pointer early instead of late. A few other users of our string hashes also wanted to mix in their own pointers into the hash, and those are updated to use the same mechanism. Hash users that don't have any particular initial salt can just use the NULL pointer as a no-salt. 2016-04-04mm, fs: get rid of PAGE_CACHE_* and page_cache_{get,release} macrosKirill A. Shutemov2-6/+6
PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} macros were introduced *long* time ago with promise that one day it will be possible to implement page cache with bigger chunks than PAGE_SIZE. This promise never materialized. And unlikely will. We have many places where PAGE_CACHE_SIZE assumed to be equal to PAGE_SIZE. And it's constant source of confusion on whether PAGE_CACHE_* or PAGE_* constant should be used in a particular case, especially on the border between fs and mm. Global switching to PAGE_CACHE_SIZE != PAGE_SIZE would cause to much breakage to be doable. Let's stop pretending that pages in page cache are special. They are not. The changes are pretty straight-forward: - <foo> << (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>; - <foo> >> (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>; - PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} -> PAGE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN}; - page_cache_get() -> get_page(); - page_cache_release() -> put_page(); This patch contains automated changes generated with coccinelle using script below. For some reason, coccinelle doesn't patch header files. I've called spatch for them manually. The only adjustment after coccinelle is revert of changes to PAGE_CAHCE_ALIGN definition: we are going to drop it later. There are few places in the code where coccinelle didn't reach. I'll fix them manually in a separate patch. Comments and documentation also will be addressed with the separate patch. virtual patch @@ expression E; @@ - E << (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) + E @@ expression E; @@ - E >> (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) + E @@ @@ - PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT + PAGE_SHIFT @@ @@ - PAGE_CACHE_SIZE + PAGE_SIZE @@ @@ - PAGE_CACHE_MASK + PAGE_MASK @@ expression E; @@ - PAGE_CACHE_ALIGN(E) + PAGE_ALIGN(E) @@ expression E; @@ - page_cache_get(E) + get_page(E) @@ expression E; @@ - page_cache_release(E) + put_page(E) Signed-off-by: Kirill A. 2016-03-08ncpfs: fix a braino in OOM handling in ncp_fill_cache()Al Viro1-1/+1
Failing to allocate an inode for child means that cache for *parent* is incompletely populated. So it's parent directory inode ('dir') that needs NCPI_DIR_CACHE flag removed, *not* the child inode ('inode', which is what we'd failed to allocate in the first place). 2016-01-15kmemcg: account certain kmem allocations to memcgVladimir Davydov1-1/+1
Mark those kmem allocations that are known to be easily triggered from userspace as __GFP_ACCOUNT/SLAB_ACCOUNT, which makes them accounted to memcg. For the list, see below: - threadinfo - task_struct - task_delay_info - pid - cred - mm_struct - vm_area_struct and vm_region (nommu) - anon_vma and anon_vma_chain - signal_struct - sighand_struct - fs_struct - files_struct - fdtable and fdtable->full_fds_bits - dentry and external_name - inode for all filesystems. This is the most tedious part, because most filesystems overwrite the alloc_inode method. The list is far from complete, so feel free to add more objects. Nevertheless, it should be close to "account everything" approach and keep most workloads within bounds. Malevolent users will be able to breach the limit, but this was possible even with the former "account everything" approach (simply because it did not account everything in fact). 2015-12-09replace ->follow_link() with new method that could stay in RCU modeAl Viro1-1/+1
new method: ->get_link(); replacement of ->follow_link(). The differences are: * inode and dentry are passed separately * might be called both in RCU and non-RCU mode; the former is indicated by passing it a NULL dentry. * when called that way it isn't allowed to block and should return ERR_PTR(-ECHILD) if it needs to be called in non-RCU mode. It's a flagday change - the old method is gone, all in-tree instances converted. Conversion isn't hard; said that, so far very few instances do not immediately bail out when called in RCU mode. What we want is to have non-counting references to children in pagecache of parent directory, and avoid picking them after a child has been freed. Fine, so let's just have ->d_prune() clear parent's inode "has directory contents in page cache" flag. That way we don't need ->d_fsdata for storing offsets, so we can use it as a quick and dirty "is it referenced from page cache" flag. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>

Since "BDI: Provide backing device capability information [try #3]" the backing_dev_info structure also provides flags for the kind of mmap operation available in a nommu environment, which is entirely unrelated to it's original purpose. Introduce a new nommu-only file operation to provide this information to the nommu mmap code instead. Splitting this from the backing_dev_info structure allows to remove lots of backing_dev_info instance that aren't otherwise needed, and entirely gets rid of the concept of providing a backing_dev_info for a character device. 2014-04-12net: Fix use after free by removing length arg from sk_data_ready callbacks.David S. Miller2-4/+4
Several spots in the kernel perform a sequence like: skb_queue_tail(&sk->s_receive_queue, skb); sk->sk_data_ready(sk, skb->len); But at the moment we place the SKB onto the socket receive queue it can be consumed and freed up. So this skb->len access is potentially to freed up memory. Furthermore, the skb->len can be modified by the consumer so it is possible that the value isn't accurate. And finally, no actual implementation of this callback actually uses the length argument. And since nobody actually cared about it's value, lots of call sites pass arbitrary values in such as '0' and even '1'. So just remove the length argument from the callback, that way there is no confusion whatsoever and all of these use-after-free cases get fixed as a side effect. Based upon a patch by Eric Dumazet and his suggestion to audit this issue tree-wide. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2014-04-09fs/ncpfs/dir.c: fix indenting in ncp_lookup()Dan Carpenter1-2/+2
My static checker suggests adding curly braces here. Probably that was the intent, but actually the code works the same either way. I've just changed the indenting and left the code as-is. 2014-04-04mm + fs: store shadow entries in page cacheJohannes Weiner1-1/+1
Reclaim will be leaving shadow entries in the page cache radix tree upon evicting the real page. As those pages are found from the LRU, an iput() can lead to the inode being freed concurrently. At this point, reclaim must no longer install shadow pages because the inode freeing code needs to ensure the page tree is really empty. Add an address_space flag, AS_EXITING, that the inode freeing code sets under the tree lock before doing the final truncate. Reclaim will check for this flag before installing shadow pages.
