2023-10-02ipv4/igmp: Annotate struct ip_sf_socklist with __counted_byKees Cook1-1/+1
Prepare for the coming implementation by GCC and Clang of the __counted_by attribute. Flexible array members annotated with __counted_by can have their accesses bounds-checked at run-time checking via CONFIG_UBSAN_BOUNDS (for array indexing) and CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE (for strcpy/memcpy-family functions). As found with Coccinelle[1], add __counted_by for struct ip_sf_socklist. 2022-09-03bpf: net: Change do_ip_getsockopt() to take the sockptr_t argumentMartin KaFai Lau1-2/+2
Similar to the earlier patch that changes sk_getsockopt() to take the sockptr_t argument. This patch also changes do_ip_getsockopt() to take the sockptr_t argument such that a latter patch can make bpf_getsockopt(SOL_IP) to reuse do_ip_getsockopt(). Note on the change in ip_mc_gsfget(). This function is to return an array of sockaddr_storage in optval. This function is shared between ip_get_mcast_msfilter() and compat_ip_get_mcast_msfilter(). However, the sockaddr_storage is stored at different offset of the optval because of the difference between group_filter and compat_group_filter. Thus, a new 'ss_offset' argument is added to ip_mc_gsfget(). 2020-04-18igmp.h: Replace zero-length array with flexible-array memberGustavo A. R. Silva1-1/+1
The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2], introduced in C99: struct foo { int stuff; struct boo array[]; }; By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on. Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by this change: "Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1] This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle. 2019-01-23bridge: simplify ip_mc_check_igmp() and ipv6_mc_check_mld() callsLinus Lüssing1-1/+10
This patch refactors ip_mc_check_igmp(), ipv6_mc_check_mld() and their callers (more precisely, the Linux bridge) to not rely on the skb_trimmed parameter anymore. An skb with its tail trimmed to the IP packet length was initially introduced for the following three reasons: 1) To be able to verify the ICMPv6 checksum. 2) To be able to distinguish the version of an IGMP or MLD query. They are distinguishable only by their size. 3) To avoid parsing data for an IGMPv3 or MLDv2 report that is beyond the IP packet but still within the skb. The first case still uses a cloned and potentially trimmed skb to verfiy. However, there is no need to propagate it to the caller. For the second and third case explicit IP packet length checks were added. This hopefully makes ip_mc_check_igmp() and ipv6_mc_check_mld() easier to read and verfiy, as well as easier to use. 2018-07-16ipv4/igmp: init group mode as INCLUDE when join source groupHangbin Liu1-0/+2
Based on RFC3376 5.1 If no interface state existed for that multicast address before the change (i.e., the change consisted of creating a new per-interface record), or if no state exists after the change (i.e., the change consisted of deleting a per-interface record), then the "non-existent" state is considered to have a filter mode of INCLUDE and an empty source list. Which means a new multicast group should start with state IN(). Function ip_mc_join_group() works correctly for IGMP ASM(Any-Source Multicast) mode. It adds a group with state EX() and inits crcount to mc_qrv, so the kernel will send a TO_EX() report message after adding group. But for IGMPv3 SSM(Source-specific multicast) JOIN_SOURCE_GROUP mode, we split the group joining into two steps. First we join the group like ASM, i.e. via ip_mc_join_group(). So the state changes from IN() to EX(). Then we add the source-specific address with INCLUDE mode. So the state changes from EX() to IN(A). Before the first step sends a group change record, we finished the second step. So we will only send the second change record. i.e. TO_IN(A). Regarding the RFC stands, we should actually send an ALLOW(A) message for SSM JOIN_SOURCE_GROUP as the state should mimic the 'IN() to IN(A)' transition. The issue was exposed by commit a052517a8ff65 ("net/multicast: should not send source list records when have filter mode change"). Before this change, we used to send both ALLOW(A) and TO_IN(A). After this change we only send TO_IN(A). Fix it by adding a new parameter to init group mode. Also add new wrapper functions so we don't need to change too much code. v1 -> v2: In my first version I only cleared the group change record. But this is not enough. Because when a new group join, it will init as EXCLUDE and trigger an filter mode change in ip/ip6_mc_add_src(), which will clear all source addresses' sf_crcount. This will prevent early joined address sending state change records if multi source addressed joined at the same time. In v2 patch, I fixed it by directly initializing the mode to INCLUDE for SSM JOIN_SOURCE_GROUP. I also split the original patch into two separated patches for IPv4 and IPv6. This patch updates ip_check_mc_rcu so that protocol is passed as a u8 instead of a u16. The motivation is just to avoid any unneeded type transitions since some systems will require an instruction to zero extend a u8 field to a u16. Also it makes it a bit more readable as to the fact that protocol is a u8 so there are no byte ordering changes needed to pass it. 2015-08-28IGMP: Inhibit reports for local multicast groupsPhilip Downey1-0/+1
The range of addresses between 224.0.0.0 and 224.0.0.255 inclusive, is reserved for the use of routing protocols and other low-level topology discovery or maintenance protocols, such as gateway discovery and group membership reporting. Multicast routers should not forward any multicast datagram with destination addresses in this range, regardless of its TTL. Currently, IGMP reports are generated for this reserved range of addresses even though a router will ignore this information since it has no purpose. However, the presence of reserved group addresses in an IGMP membership report uses up network bandwidth and can also obscure addresses of interest when inspecting membership reports using packet inspection or debug messages. Although the RFCs for the various version of IGMP (e.g.RFC 3376 for v3) do not specify that the reserved addresses be excluded from membership reports, it should do no harm in doing so. In particular there should be no adverse effect in any IGMP snooping functionality since 224.0.0.x is specifically excluded as per RFC 4541 (IGMP and MLD Snooping Switches Considerations) section 2.1.2. Data Forwarding Rules: 2) Packets with a destination IP (DIP) address in the 224.0.0.X range which are not IGMP must be forwarded on all ports. IGMP reports for local multicast groups can now be optionally inhibited by means of a system control variable (by setting the value to zero) e.g.: echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/igmp_link_local_mcast_reports To retain backwards compatibility the previous behaviour is retained by default on system boot or reverted by setting the value back to non-zero e.g.: echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/igmp_link_local_mcast_reports Signed-off-by: Philip Downey <pdowney@brocade.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2015-05-04net: Export IGMP/MLD message validation codeLinus Lüssing1-0/+1
With this patch, the IGMP and MLD message validation functions are moved from the bridge code to IPv4/IPv6 multicast files. Some small refactoring was done to enhance readibility and to iron out some differences in behaviour between the IGMP and MLD parsing code (e.g. the skb-cloning of MLD messages is now only done if necessary, just like the IGMP part always did). Finally, these IGMP and MLD message validation functions are exported so that not only the bridge can use it but batman-adv later, too. 2009-09-15bonding: remap muticast addresses without using dev_close() and dev_open()Moni Shoua1-0/+2
This patch fixes commit e36b9d16c6a6d0f59803b3ef04ff3c22c3844c10. The approach there is to call dev_close()/dev_open() whenever the device type is changed in order to remap the device IP multicast addresses to HW multicast addresses. This approach suffers from 2 drawbacks: *. It assumes tha the device is UP when calling dev_close(), or otherwise dev_close() has no affect. It is worth to mention that initscripts (Redhat) and sysconfig (Suse) doesn't act the same in this matter. *. dev_close() has other side affects, like deleting entries from the routing table, which might be unnecessary. The fix here is to directly remap the IP multicast addresses to HW multicast addresses for a bonding device that changes its type, and nothing else. 2008-10-14net: Rationalise email address: Network Specific PartsAlan Cox1-1/+1
Clean up the various different email addresses of mine listed in the code to a single current and valid address. As Dave says his network merges for 2.6.28 are now done this seems a good point to send them in where they won't risk disrupting real changes. 2007-03-06bonding: Improve IGMP join processingJay Vosburgh1-0/+2
In active-backup mode, the current bonding code duplicates IGMP traffic to all slaves, so that switches are up to date in case of a failover from an active to a backup interface. If bonding then fails back to the original active interface, it is likely that the "active slave" switch's IGMP forwarding for the port will be out of date until some event occurs to refresh the switch (e.g., a membership query). This patch alters the behavior of bonding to no longer flood IGMP to all ports, and to issue IGMP JOINs to the newly active port at the time of a failover. This insures that switches are kept up to date for all cases. "GOELLESCH Niels" <niels.goellesch@eurocontrol.int> originally reported this problem, and included a patch. His original patch was modified by Jay Vosburgh to additionally remove the existing IGMP flood behavior, use RCU, streamline code paths, fix trailing white space, and adjust for style.
