Pull cxl updates from Dan Williams:
"Compute Express Link (CXL) updates for 6.2.
While it may seem backwards, the CXL update this time around includes
some focus on CXL 1.x enabling where the work to date had been with
CXL 2.0 (VH topologies) in mind.
First generation CXL can mostly be supported via BIOS, similar to DDR,
however it became clear there are use cases for OS native CXL error
handling and some CXL 3.0 endpoint features can be deployed on CXL 1.x
hosts (Restricted CXL Host (RCH) topologies). So, this update brings
RCH topologies into the Linux CXL device model.
In support of the ongoing CXL 2.0+ enabling two new core kernel
facilities are added.
One is the ability for the kernel to flag collisions between userspace
access to PCI configuration registers and kernel accesses. This is
brought on by the PCIe Data-Object-Exchange (DOE) facility, a hardware
mailbox over config-cycles.
The other is a cpu_cache_invalidate_memregion() API that maps to
wbinvd_on_all_cpus() on x86. To prevent abuse it is disabled in guest
VMs and architectures that do not support it yet. The CXL paths that
need it, dynamic memory region creation and security commands (erase /
unlock), are disabled when it is not present.
As for the CXL 2.0+ this cycle the subsystem gains support Persistent
Memory Security commands, error handling in response to PCIe AER
notifications, and support for the "XOR" host bridge interleave
algorithm.
Summary:
- Add the cpu_cache_invalidate_memregion() API for cache flushing in
response to physical memory reconfiguration, or memory-side data
invalidation from operations like secure erase or memory-device
unlock.
- Add a facility for the kernel to warn about collisions between
kernel and userspace access to PCI configuration registers
- Add support for Restricted CXL Host (RCH) topologies (formerly CXL
1.1)
- Add handling and reporting of CXL errors reported via the PCIe AER
mechanism
- Add support for CXL Persistent Memory Security commands
- Add support for the "XOR" algorithm for CXL host bridge interleave
- Rework / simplify CXL to NVDIMM interactions
- Miscellaneous cleanups and fixes"

IMS (Interrupt Message Store) is a new specification which allows
implementation specific storage of MSI messages contrary to the
strict standard specified MSI and MSI-X message stores.
This requires new device specific interrupt domains to handle the
implementation defined storage which can be an array in device memory or
host/guest memory which is shared with hardware queues.
Add a function to create IMS domains for PCI devices. IMS domains are using
the new per device domain mechanism and are configured by the device driver
via a template. IMS domains are created as secondary device domains so they
work side on side with MSI[-X] on the same device.
The IMS domains have a few constraints:
- The index space is managed by the core code.
Device memory based IMS provides a storage array with a fixed size
which obviously requires an index. But there is no association between
index and functionality so the core can randomly allocate an index in
the array.
System memory based IMS does not have the concept of an index as the
storage is somewhere in memory. In that case the index is purely
software based to keep track of the allocations.
- There is no requirement for consecutive index ranges
This is currently a limitation of the MSI core and can be implemented
if there is a justified use case by changing the internal storage from
xarray to maple_tree. For now it's single vector allocation.
- The interrupt chip must provide the following callbacks:
- irq_mask()
- irq_unmask()
- irq_write_msi_msg()
- The interrupt chip must provide the following optional callbacks
when the irq_mask(), irq_unmask() and irq_write_msi_msg() callbacks
cannot operate directly on hardware, e.g. in the case that the
interrupt message store is in queue memory:
- irq_bus_lock()
- irq_bus_unlock()
These callbacks are invoked from preemptible task context and are
allowed to sleep. In this case the mandatory callbacks above just
store the information. The irq_bus_unlock() callback is supposed to
make the change effective before returning.
- Interrupt affinity setting is handled by the underlying parent
interrupt domain and communicated to the IMS domain via
irq_write_msi_msg(). IMS domains cannot have a irq_set_affinity()
callback. That's a reasonable restriction similar to the PCI/MSI
device domain implementations.
The domain is automatically destroyed when the PCI device is removed.

MSI-X vectors can be allocated after the initial MSI-X enablement, but this
needs explicit support of the underlying interrupt domains.
Provide a function to query the ability and functions to allocate/free
individual vectors post-enable.
The allocation can either request a specific index in the MSI-X table or
with the index argument MSI_ANY_INDEX it allocates the next free vector.
The return value is a struct msi_map which on success contains both index
and the Linux interrupt number. In case of failure index is negative and
the Linux interrupt number is 0.
The allocation function is for a single MSI-X index at a time as that's
sufficient for the most urgent use case VFIO to get rid of the 'disable
MSI-X, reallocate, enable-MSI-X' cycle which is prone to lost interrupts
and redirections to the legacy and obviously unhandled INTx.
As single index allocation is also sufficient for the use cases Jason
Gunthorpe pointed out: Allocation of a MSI-X or IMS vector for a network
queue. See Link below.

Some new devices such as CXL devices may want to record additional error
information on a corrected error. Add a callback to allow the PCI device
driver to do additional logging such as providing additional stats for user
space RAS monitoring.
For CXL device, this is actually a need due to CXL needing to write to the
CXL RAS capability structure correctable error status register in order to
clear the unmasked correctable errors. See CXL spec rev3.0 8.2.4.16.

PCI config space access from user space has traditionally been
unrestricted with writes being an understood risk for device operation.
Unfortunately, device breakage or odd behavior from config writes lacks
indicators that can leave driver writers confused when evaluating
failures. This is especially true with the new PCIe Data Object
Exchange (DOE) mailbox protocol where backdoor shenanigans from user
space through things such as vendor defined protocols may affect device
operation without complete breakage.
A prior proposal restricted read and writes completely.[1] Greg and
Bjorn pointed out that proposal is flawed for a couple of reasons.
First, lspci should always be allowed and should not interfere with any
device operation. Second, setpci is a valuable tool that is sometimes
necessary and it should not be completely restricted.[2] Finally
methods exist for full lock of device access if required.
Even though access should not be restricted it would be nice for driver
writers to be able to flag critical parts of the config space such that
interference from user space can be detected.
Introduce pci_request_config_region_exclusive() to mark exclusive config
regions. Such regions trigger a warning and kernel taint if accessed
via user space.
Create pci_warn_once() to restrict the user from spamming the log.

Replace assignment of PCI domain IDs from atomic_inc_return() to
ida_alloc().
Use two IDAs, one for static domain allocations (those which are defined in
device tree) and second for dynamic allocations (all other).
During removal of root bus / host bridge, also release the domain ID. The
released ID can be reused again, for example when dynamically loading and
unloading native PCI host bridge drivers.
This change also allows to mix static device tree assignment and dynamic by
kernel as all static allocations are reserved in dynamic pool.

"Resource management:
- Distribute spare resources to unconfigured hotplug bridges at
boot-time (not just when hot-adding such a bridge), which makes
hot-adding devices to docks work better.
- Revert to a BAR assignment inherited from firmware only when the
address is actually reachable via any upstream bridges, which fixes
some cases where firmware doesn't configure all devices.
- Add a sysfs interface to resize BARs so this can be done before
assigning devices to a VM through VFIO.
Power management:
- Disable Precision Time Management for all devices on suspend to
enable lower-power PM state. We previously did this just for Root
Ports, which isn't enough because downstream devices can still
generate PTM messages, which cause errors if it's disabled in the
Root Port.
- Save and restore the ASPM L1 PM Substates configuration for
suspend/ resume. Previously this configuration was lost, so L1.x
states likely stopped working after resume.
- Check whether the L1 PM Substates Capability exists. If it didn't
exist, we previously read junk and tried to configure L1 Substates
based on that.
- Fix the LTR_L1.2_THRESHOLD computation, which previously set a
threshold for entering L1.2 that was too low in some cases.
- Reduce the delay after transitions to or from D3cold by using
usleep_range() rather than msleep(), which often slept for ~19ms
instead of the 10ms normally required. The spec says 10ms is
enough, but it's possible we could trip over devices that need a
little more.
Error handling:
- Work around a BIOS bug that caused Intel Root Ports to advertise a
Root Port Programmed I/O (RP PIO) log size of zero, which caused
annoying warnings and prevented the kernel from dumping log
registers for DPC errors.
Qualcomm PCIe controller driver:
- Add support for SC8280XP and SA8540P host controllers and SM8450
endpoint controller.
- Disable Master AXI clock on endpoint controllers to save power when
link is idle or in L1.x.
- Expose link state transition counts via debugfs to help debug
issues with low-power states.
- Add auto-loading module support.
Synopsys DesignWare PCIe controller driver:
- Remove a dependency on ZONE_DMA32 by allocating the MSI target page
differently. There's more work to do related to eDMA controllers,
so it's not completely settled"

We disable PTM during suspend because that allows some Root Ports to enter
lower-power PM states, which means we also need to disable PTM for all
downstream devices. Add pci_suspend_ptm() and pci_resume_ptm() for this
purpose.
pci_enable_ptm() and pci_disable_ptm() are for drivers to use to enable or
disable PTM. They use dev->ptm_enabled to keep track of whether PTM should
be enabled.
pci_suspend_ptm() and pci_resume_ptm() are PCI core-internal functions to
temporarily disable PTM during suspend and (depending on dev->ptm_enabled)
re-enable PTM during resume.
Enable/disable/suspend/resume all use internal __pci_enable_ptm() and
__pci_disable_ptm() functions that only update the PTM Control register.
Outline:
pci_enable_ptm(struct pci_dev *dev)
{
__pci_enable_ptm(dev);
dev->ptm_enabled = 1;
pci_ptm_info(dev);
}
pci_disable_ptm(struct pci_dev *dev)
{
if (dev->ptm_enabled) {
__pci_disable_ptm(dev);
dev->ptm_enabled = 0;
}
}
pci_suspend_ptm(struct pci_dev *dev)
{
if (dev->ptm_enabled)
__pci_disable_ptm(dev);
}
pci_resume_ptm(struct pci_dev *dev)
{
if (dev->ptm_enabled)
__pci_enable_ptm(dev);
}
Nothing currently calls pci_resume_ptm(); the suspend path saves the PTM
state before disabling PTM, so the PTM state restore in the resume path
implicitly re-enables it. A future change will use pci_resume_ptm() to fix
some problems with this approach.

The ARCH_GENERIC_PCI_MMAP_RESOURCE symbol came up in a recent discussion,
and I noticed that this was left behind by an unfinished cleanup from 2017.
The only architecture that still relies on providing its own
pci_mmap_page_range() helper instead of using the generic
pci_mmap_resource_range() is sparc. Presumably the reasons for this have
not changed, but at least this can be simplified by converting sparc to use
the same interface as the others.
The only difference between the two is the device-specific offset that gets
added to or subtracted from vma->vm_pgoff.
Change the only caller of pci_mmap_page_range() in common code to subtract
this offset and call the modern interface, while adding it back in the
sparc implementation to preserve the existing behavior.
This removes the complexities of the dual interfaces from the common code,
and keeps it all specific to the sparc architecture code. According to
David Miller, the sparc code lets user space poke into the VGA I/O port
registers by mmapping the I/O space of the parent bridge device, which is
something that the generic pci_mmap_resource_range() code apparently does
not.

Pull driver core updates from Greg KH:
"Here is the set of driver core changes for 5.19-rc1.
Lots of tiny driver core changes and cleanups happened this cycle, but
the two major things are:
- firmware_loader reorganization and additions including the ability
to have XZ compressed firmware images and the ability for userspace
to initiate the firmware load when it needs to, instead of being
always initiated by the kernel. FPGA devices specifically want this
ability to have their firmware changed over the lifetime of the
system boot, and this allows them to work without having to come up
with yet-another-custom-uapi interface for loading firmware for
them.
- physical location support added to sysfs so that devices that know
this information, can tell userspace where they are located in a
common way. Some ACPI devices already support this today, and more
bus types should support this in the future.
Smaller changes include:
- driver_override api cleanups and fixes
- error path cleanups and fixes
- get_abi script fixes
- deferred probe timeout changes.
It's that last change that I'm the most worried about. It has been

The devices on platform/amba/fsl-mc/PCI buses could be bound to drivers
with the device DMA managed by kernel drivers or user-space applications.
Unfortunately, multiple devices may be placed in the same IOMMU group
because they cannot be isolated from each other. The DMA on these devices
must either be entirely under kernel control or userspace control, never
a mixture. Otherwise the driver integrity is not guaranteed because they
could access each other through the peer-to-peer accesses which by-pass
the IOMMU protection.
This checks and sets the default DMA mode during driver binding, and
cleanups during driver unbinding. In the default mode, the device DMA is
managed by the device driver which handles DMA operations through the
kernel DMA APIs (see Documentation/core-api/dma-api.rst).
For cases where the devices are assigned for userspace control through the
userspace driver framework(i.e. VFIO), the drivers(for example, vfio_pci/
vfio_platfrom etc.) may set a new flag (driver_managed_dma) to skip this
default setting in the assumption that the drivers know what they are
doing with the device DMA.
Calling iommu_device_use_default_domain() before {of,acpi}_dma_configure
is currently a problem. As things stand, the IOMMU driver ignored the
initial iommu_probe_device() call when the device was added, since at
that point it had no fwspec yet. In this situation,
{of,acpi}_iommu_configure() are retriggering iommu_probe_device() after
the IOMMU driver has seen the firmware data via .of_xlate to learn that
it actually responsible for the given device. As the result, before
that gets fixed, iommu_use_default_domain() goes at the end, and calls
arch_teardown_dma_ops() if it fails.

For hardware that only supports 32-bit writes to PCI there is the
possibility of clearing RW1C (write-one-to-clear) bits. A rate-limited
messages was introduced by fb2659230120, but rate-limiting is not the best
choice here. Some devices may not show the warnings they should if another
device has just produced a bunch of warnings. Also, the number of messages
can be a nuisance on devices which are otherwise working fine.
Change the ratelimit to a single warning per bus. This ensures no bus is
'starved' of emitting a warning and also that there isn't a continuous
stream of warnings. It would be preferable to have a warning per device,
but the pci_dev structure is not available here, and a lookup from devfn
would be far too slow.

There are some cases where a SR-IOV VF driver will need to reach into and
interact with the PF driver. This requires accessing the drvdata of the PF.
Provide a function pci_iov_get_pf_drvdata() to return this PF drvdata in a
safe way. Normally accessing a drvdata of a foreign struct device would be
done using the device_lock() to protect against device driver
probe()/remove() races.
However, due to the design of pci_enable_sriov() this will result in a
ABBA deadlock on the device_lock as the PF's device_lock is held during PF
sriov_configure() while calling pci_enable_sriov() which in turn holds the
VF's device_lock while calling VF probe(), and similarly for remove.
This means the VF driver can never obtain the PF's device_lock.
Instead use the implicit locking created by pci_enable/disable_sriov(). A
VF driver can access its PF drvdata only while its own driver is attached,
and the PF driver can control access to its own drvdata based on when it
calls pci_enable/disable_sriov().
To use this API the PF driver will setup the PF drvdata in the probe()
function. pci_enable_sriov() is only called from sriov_configure() which
cannot happen until probe() completes, ensuring no VF races with drvdata
setup.
For removal, the PF driver must call pci_disable_sriov() in its remove
function before destroying any of the drvdata. This ensures that all VF
drivers are unbound before returning, fencing concurrent access to the
drvdata.
The introduction of a new function to do this access makes clear the
special locking scheme and the documents the requirements on the PF/VF
drivers using this.

The PCI core uses the VF index internally, often called the vf_id,
during the setup of the VF, eg pci_iov_add_virtfn().
This index is needed for device drivers that implement live migration
for their internal operations that configure/control their VFs.
Specifically, mlx5_vfio_pci driver that is introduced in coming patches
from this series needs it and not the bus/device/function which is
exposed today.
Add pci_iov_vf_id() which computes the vf_id by reversing the math that
was used to create the bus/device/function.

- Always write Intel I210 ROM BAR on update to work around device defect

PCI: Work around Intel I210 ROM BAR overlap defect
|
|
Per PCIe r5, sec 7.5.1.2.4, a device must not claim accesses to its
Expansion ROM unless both the Memory Space Enable and the Expansion ROM
Enable bit are set. But apparently some Intel I210 NICs don't work
correctly if the ROM BAR overlaps another BAR, even if the Expansion ROM is
disabled.
Michael reported that on a Kontron SMARC-sAL28 ARM64 system with U-Boot
v2021.01-rc3, the ROM BAR overlaps BAR 3, and networking doesn't work at
all:
BAR 0: 0x40000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1M]
BAR 3: 0x40200000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
ROM: 0x40200000 (disabled) [size=1M]
NETDEV WATCHDOG: enP2p1s0 (igb): transmit queue 0 timed out
Hardware name: Kontron SMARC-sAL28 (Single PHY) on SMARC Eval 2.0 carrier (DT)
igb 0002:01:00.0 enP2p1s0: Reset adapter
Previously, pci_std_update_resource() wrote the assigned ROM address to the
BAR only when the ROM was enabled. This meant that the I210 ROM BAR could
be left with an address assigned by firmware, which might overlap with
other BARs.
Quirk these I210 devices so pci_std_update_resource() always writes the
assigned address to the ROM BAR, whether or not the ROM is enabled.

The MSI core will introduce runtime allocation of MSI related data. This
data will be devres managed and has to be set up before enabling
PCI/MSI[-X]. This would introduce an ordering issue vs. pcim_release().
The setup order is:
pcim_enable_device()
devres_alloc(pcim_release...);
...
pci_irq_alloc()
msi_setup_device_data()
devres_alloc(msi_device_data_release, ...)
and once the device is released these release functions are invoked in the
opposite order:
msi_device_data_release()
...
pcim_release()
pci_disable_msi[x]()
which is obviously wrong, because pci_disable_msi[x]() requires the MSI
data to be available to tear down the MSI[-X] interrupts.
Remove the MSI[-X] teardown from pcim_release() and add an explicit action
to be installed on the attempt of enabling PCI/MSI[-X].
This allows the MSI core data allocation to be ordered correctly in a
subsequent step.

A config or MMIO read from a PCI device that doesn't exist or doesn't
respond causes a PCI error. There's no real data to return to satisfy the
CPU read, so most hardware fabricates ~0 data.
Add a PCI_ERROR_RESPONSE definition for that and use it where appropriate
to make these checks consistent and easier to find.
Also add helper definitions PCI_SET_ERROR_RESPONSE() and
PCI_POSSIBLE_ERROR() to make the code more readable.

Pull irq fixes from Thomas Gleixner:
"A set of fixes for the interrupt subsystem
Core code:
- A regression fix for the Open Firmware interrupt mapping code where
a interrupt controller property in a node caused a map property in
the same node to be ignored.
Interrupt chip drivers:
- Workaround a limitation in SiFive PLIC interrupt chip which
silently ignores an EOI when the interrupt line is masked.
- Provide the missing mask/unmask implementation for the CSKY MP
interrupt controller.
PCI/MSI:
- Prevent a use after free when PCI/MSI interrupts are released by
destroying the sysfs entries before freeing the memory which is
accessed in the sysfs show() function.
- Implement a mask quirk for the Nvidia ION AHCI chip which does not
advertise masking capability despite implementing it. Even worse
the chip comes out of reset with all MSI entries masked, which due
to the missing masking capability never get unmasked.
- Move the check which prevents accessing the MSI[X] masking for XEN
back into the low level accessors. The recent consolidation missed
that these accessors can be invoked from places which do not have
that check which broke XEN. Move them back to he original place
instead of sprinkling tons of these checks all over the code"

pretending that they don't have it, while they actually do.
The net result is that now that we don't enable MSIs on such

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cxl/cxl
Pull cxl updates from Dan Williams:
"More preparation and plumbing work in the CXL subsystem.
From an end user perspective the highlight here is lighting up the CXL
Persistent Memory related commands (label read / write) with the
generic ioctl() front-end in LIBNVDIMM.
Otherwise, the ability to instantiate new persistent and volatile
memory regions is still on track for v5.17.
Summary:
- Fix support for platforms that do not enumerate every ACPI0016 (CXL
Host Bridge) in the CHBS (ACPI Host Bridge Structure).
- Introduce a common pci_find_dvsec_capability() helper, clean up
open coded implementations in various drivers.
- Add 'cxl_test' for regression testing CXL subsystem ABIs.
'cxl_test' is a module built from tools/testing/cxl/ that mocks up
a CXL topology to augment the nascent support for emulation of CXL
devices in QEMU.
- Convert libnvdimm to use the uuid API.
- Complete the definition of CXL namespace labels in libnvdimm.
- Tunnel libnvdimm label operations from nd_ioctl() back to the CXL
mailbox driver. Enable 'ndctl {read,write}-labels' for CXL.
- Continue to sort and refactor functionality into distinct driver
and core-infrastructure buckets. For example, mailbox handling is
now a generic core capability consumed by the PCI and cxl_test
drivers"

already exported pci_dev_trylock()/pci_dev_unlock() however in some
circumstances such as during error recovery it makes sense to block
waiting to get full access to the device so also export pci_dev_lock().

Add pci_find_dvsec_capability to locate a Designated Vendor-Specific
Extended Capability with the specified Vendor ID and Capability ID.
The Designated Vendor-Specific Extended Capability (DVSEC) allows one or
more "vendor" specific capabilities that are not tied to the Vendor ID
of the PCI component. Where the DVSEC Vendor may be a standards body
like CXL.

to_pci_driver() takes a pointer to a struct device_driver and uses
container_of() to find the struct pci_driver that contains it.
If given a NULL pointer to a struct device_driver, return a NULL pci_driver
pointer instead of applying container_of() to NULL.
This simplifies callers that would otherwise have to check for a NULL
pointer first.

In certain cases we need a variant of pci_read_vpd()/pci_write_vpd() that
does not check against dev->vpd.len. Such cases are:
- Reading VPD if dev->vpd.len isn't set yet (in pci_vpd_size())
- Devices that map non-VPD information to arbitrary places in VPD address
space (example: Chelsio T3 EEPROM write-protect flag)
Therefore add pci_read_vpd_any() and pci_write_vpd_any() that check against
PCI_VPD_MAX_SIZE only.

The general convention for pcibios_* hooks is that they're named after the
corresponding pci_* function they provide a hook for. The exception is
pcibios_add_device() which provides a hook for pci_device_add().
Rename pcibios_add_device() to pcibios_device_add() so it matches
pci_device_add().
Also, remove the export of the microblaze version. The only caller must be
compiled as a built-in so there's no reason for the export.
