2016-04-01lib/proportions: Remove unused codeRichard Cochran1-407/+0
By accident I stumbled across code that is no longer used. According to git grep, the global functions in lib/proportions.c are not used anywhere. This patch removes the old, unused code. Peter Zijlstra further commented: "Ah indeed, that got replaced with the flex proportion code a while back." There were still a number of references to my old Red Hat email address in the kernel source. Remove these while keeping the Red Hat copyright notices intact. 2014-09-08proportions: add @gfp to init functionsTejun Heo1-5/+5
Percpu allocator now supports allocation mask. Add @gfp to [flex_]proportions init functions so that !GFP_KERNEL allocation masks can be used with them too. This patch doesn't make any functional difference. Signed-off-by: Tejun Heo <tj@kernel.org> Reviewed-by: Jan Kara <jack@suse.cz> Cc: Peter Zijlstra <peterz@infradead.org>
2014-09-08percpu_counter: add @gfp to percpu_counter_init()Tejun Heo1-3/+3
Percpu allocator now supports allocation mask. Add @gfp to percpu_counter_init() so that !GFP_KERNEL allocation masks can be used with percpu_counters too. We could have left percpu_counter_init() alone and added percpu_counter_init_gfp(); however, the number of users isn't that high and introducing _gfp variants to all percpu data structures would be quite ugly, so let's just do the conversion. This is the one with the most users. Other percpu data structures are a lot easier to convert. This patch doesn't make any functional difference. 2011-09-13locking, lib/proportions: Annotate prop_local_percpu::lock as rawThomas Gleixner1-6/+6
The prop_local_percpu::lock can be taken in atomic context and therefore cannot be preempted on -rt - annotate it. In mainline this change documents the low level nature of the lock - otherwise there's no functional difference. Lockdep and Sparse checking will work as usual. 2008-12-29locking, percpu counters: introduce separate lock classesPeter Zijlstra1-3/+3
Impact: fix lockdep false positives Classify percpu_counter instances similar to regular lock objects -- that is, per instantiation site. The networking code has increased its use of percpu_counters, which leads to false positives if they are treated as a single class. 2007-12-23lib: proportion: fix underflow in prop_norm_percpu()Peter Zijlstra1-21/+16
Zhe Jiang noticed that its possible to underflow pl->events in prop_norm_percpu() when the value returned by percpu_counter_read() is less than the error on that read and the period delay > 1. In that case half might not trigger the batch increment and the value will be identical on the next iteration, causing the same half to be subtracted again and again. Fix this by rewriting the division as a single subtraction instead of a subtraction loop and using percpu_counter_sum() when the value returned by percpu_counter_read() is smaller than the error. The latter is still needed if we want pl->events to shrink properly in the error region. 2007-10-17lib: floating proportionsPeter Zijlstra1-0/+384
Given a set of objects, floating proportions aims to efficiently give the proportional 'activity' of a single item as compared to the whole set. Where 'activity' is a measure of a temporal property of the items. It is efficient in that it need not inspect any other items of the set in order to provide the answer. It is not even needed to know how many other items there are. It has one parameter, and that is the period of 'time' over which the 'activity' is measured.
