2024-02-01net: ipv4: Simplify the allocation of slab caches in inet_initpeersKunwu Chan1-4/+1
commit 0a31bd5f2bbb ("KMEM_CACHE(): simplify slab cache creation") introduces a new macro. Use the new KMEM_CACHE() macro instead of direct kmem_cache_create to simplify the creation of SLAB caches. https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/netfilter/nf-next Florian Westphal says: ==================== nf-next pr 2024-01-29 This batch contains updates for your *next* tree. First three changes, from Phil Sutter, allow userspace to define a table that is exclusively owned by a daemon (via netlink socket aliveness) without auto-removing this table when the userspace program exits. Such table gets marked as orphaned and a restarting management daemon may re-attach/reassume ownership. Next patch, from Pablo, passes already-validated flags variable around rather than having called code re-fetch it from netlnik message. Patches 5 and 6 update ipvs and nf_conncount to use the recently introduced KMEM_CACHE() macro. Last three patches, from myself, tweak kconfig logic a little to permit a kernel configuration that can run iptables-over-nftables but not classic (setsockopt) iptables. Such builds lack the builtin-filter/mangle/raw/nat/security tables, the set/getsockopt interface and the "old blob format" interpreter/traverser. For now, this is 'oldconfig friendly', users need to manually deselect existing config options for this. ==================== Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2024-01-30net: tcp: accept old ack during closingMenglong Dong1-7/+11
For now, the packet with an old ack is not accepted if we are in FIN_WAIT1 state, which can cause retransmission. Taking the following case as an example: Client Server | | FIN_WAIT1(Send FIN, seq=10) FIN_WAIT1(Send FIN, seq=20, ack=10) | | | Send ACK(seq=21, ack=11) Recv ACK(seq=21, ack=11) | Recv FIN(seq=20, ack=10) In the case above, simultaneous close is happening, and the FIN and ACK packet that send from the server is out of order. Then, the FIN will be dropped by the client, as it has an old ack. Then, the server has to retransmit the FIN, which can cause delay if the server has set the SO_LINGER on the socket. Old ack is accepted in the ESTABLISHED and TIME_WAIT state, and I think it should be better to keep the same logic. In this commit, we accept old ack in FIN_WAIT1/FIN_WAIT2/CLOSING/LAST_ACK states. Maybe we should limit it to FIN_WAIT1 for now? 2024-01-29netfilter: xtables: allow xtables-nft only buildsFlorian Westphal2-4/+13
Add hidden IP(6)_NF_IPTABLES_LEGACY symbol. When any of the "old" builtin tables are enabled the "old" iptables interface will be supported. To disable the old set/getsockopt interface the existing options for the builtin tables need to be turned off: CONFIG_IP_NF_IPTABLES=m CONFIG_IP_NF_FILTER is not set CONFIG_IP_NF_NAT is not set CONFIG_IP_NF_MANGLE is not set CONFIG_IP_NF_RAW is not set CONFIG_IP_NF_SECURITY is not set Same for CONFIG_IP6_NF_ variants. This allows to build a kernel that only supports ip(6)tables-nft (iptables-over-nftables api). In the future the _LEGACY symbol will become visible and the select statements will be turned into 'depends on', but for now be on safe side so "make oldconfig" won't break things. 2024-01-29netfilter: arptables: allow xtables-nft only buildsFlorian Westphal1-15/+13
Allows to build kernel that supports the arptables mangle target via nftables' compat infra but without the arptables get/setsockopt interface or the old arptables filter interpreter. IOW, setting IP_NF_ARPFILTER=n will break arptables-legacy, but arptables-nft will continue to work as long as nftables compat support is enabled. 2024-01-24bpf: tcp: Handle BPF SYN Cookie in cookie_v[46]_check().Kuniyuki Iwashima1-4/+27
We will support arbitrary SYN Cookie with BPF in the following patch. If BPF prog validates ACK and kfunc allocates a reqsk, it will be carried to cookie_[46]_check() as skb->sk. If skb->sk is not NULL, we call cookie_bpf_check(). Then, we clear skb->sk and skb->destructor, which are needed not to hold refcnt for reqsk and the listener. See the following patch for details. After that, we finish initialisation for the remaining fields with cookie_tcp_reqsk_init(). Note that the server side WScale is set only for non-BPF SYN Cookie. 2024-01-23tcp: Add memory barrier to tcp_push()Salvatore Dipietro1-0/+1
On CPUs with weak memory models, reads and updates performed by tcp_push to the sk variables can get reordered leaving the socket throttled when it should not. The tasklet running tcp_wfree() may also not observe the memory updates in time and will skip flushing any packets throttled by tcp_push(), delaying the sending. This can pathologically cause 40ms extra latency due to bad interactions with delayed acks. Adding a memory barrier in tcp_push removes the bug, similarly to the previous commit bf06200e732d ("tcp: tsq: fix nonagle handling"). smp_mb__after_atomic() is used to not incur in unnecessary overhead on x86 since not affected. Patch has been tested using an AWS c7g.2xlarge instance with Ubuntu 22.04 and Apache Tomcat 9.0.83 running the basic servlet below: import java.io.IOException; import java.io.OutputStreamWriter; import java.io.PrintWriter; import javax.servlet.ServletException; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse; public class HelloWorldServlet extends HttpServlet { @Override protected void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { response.setContentType("text/html;charset=utf-8"); OutputStreamWriter osw = new OutputStreamWriter(response.getOutputStream(),"UTF-8"); String s = "a".repeat(3096); osw.write(s,0,s.length()); osw.flush(); } } Load was applied using wrk2 (https://github.com/kinvolk/wrk2) from an AWS c6i.8xlarge instance. Before the patch an additional 40ms latency from P99.99+ values is observed while, with the patch, the extra latency disappears. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/netfilter/nf Pablo Neira Ayuso says: ==================== Netfilter fixes for net The following batch contains Netfilter fixes for net. Slightly larger than usual because this batch includes several patches to tighten the nf_tables control plane to reject inconsistent configuration: 1) Restrict NFTA_SET_POLICY to NFT_SET_POL_PERFORMANCE and NFT_SET_POL_MEMORY. 2) Bail out if a nf_tables expression registers more than 16 netlink attributes which is what struct nft_expr_info allows. 3) Bail out if NFT_EXPR_STATEFUL provides no .clone interface, remove existing fallback to memcpy() when cloning which might accidentally duplicate memory reference to the same object. 4) Fix br_netfilter interaction with neighbour layer. This requires three preparation patches: - Use nf_bridge_get_physinif() in nfnetlink_log - Use nf_bridge_info_exists() to check in br_netfilter context is available in nf_queue. - Pass net to nf_bridge_get_physindev() And finally, the fix which replaces physindev with physinif in nf_bridge_info. Patches from Pavel Tikhomirov. 5) Catch-all deactivation happens in the transaction, hence this oneliner to check for the next generation. This bug uncovered after the removal of the _BUSY bit, which happened in set elements back in summer 2023. 6) Ensure set (total) key length size and concat field length description is consistent, otherwise bail out. 7) Skip set element with the _DEAD flag on from the netlink dump path. A tests occasionally shows that dump is mismatching because GC might lose race to get rid of this element while a netlink dump is in progress. 8) Reject NFT_SET_CONCAT for field_count < 1. 9) Use IP6_INC_STATS in ipvs to fix preemption BUG splat, patch from Fedor Pchelkin. * tag 'nf-24-01-18' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/netfilter/nf: ipvs: avoid stat macros calls from preemptible context netfilter: nf_tables: reject NFT_SET_CONCAT with not field length description netfilter: nf_tables: skip dead set elements in netlink dump netfilter: nf_tables: do not allow mismatch field size and set key length netfilter: nf_tables: check if catch-all set element is active in next generation netfilter: bridge: replace physindev with physinif in nf_bridge_info netfilter: propagate net to nf_bridge_get_physindev netfilter: nf_queue: remove excess nf_bridge variable netfilter: nfnetlink_log: use proper helper for fetching physinif netfilter: nft_limit: do not ignore unsupported flags netfilter: nf_tables: bail out if stateful expression provides no .clone netfilter: nf_tables: validate .maxattr at expression registration netfilter: nf_tables: reject invalid set policy ==================== Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20240118161726.14838-1-pablo@netfilter.org Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org>
2024-01-17netfilter: bridge: replace physindev with physinif in nf_bridge_infoPavel Tikhomirov1-3/+6
An skb can be added to a neigh->arp_queue while waiting for an arp reply. Where original skb's skb->dev can be different to neigh's neigh->dev. For instance in case of bridging dnated skb from one veth to another, the skb would be added to a neigh->arp_queue of the bridge. As skb->dev can be reset back to nf_bridge->physindev and used, and as there is no explicit mechanism that prevents this physindev from been freed under us (for instance neigh_flush_dev doesn't cleanup skbs from different device's neigh queue) we can crash on e.g. this stack: arp_process neigh_update skb = __skb_dequeue(&neigh->arp_queue) neigh_resolve_output(..., skb) ... br_nf_dev_xmit br_nf_pre_routing_finish_bridge_slow skb->dev = nf_bridge->physindev br_handle_frame_finish Let's use plain ifindex instead of net_device link. To peek into the original net_device we will use dev_get_by_index_rcu(). Thus either we get device and are safe to use it or we don't get it and drop skb. 2024-01-13bpf: Avoid iter->offset making backward progress in bpf_iter_udpMartin KaFai Lau1-11/+10
There is a bug in the bpf_iter_udp_batch() function that stops the userspace from making forward progress. The case that triggers the bug is the userspace passed in a very small read buffer. When the bpf prog does bpf_seq_printf, the userspace read buffer is not enough to capture the whole bucket. When the read buffer is not large enough, the kernel will remember the offset of the bucket in iter->offset such that the next userspace read() can continue from where it left off. The kernel will skip the number (== "iter->offset") of sockets in the next read(). However, the code directly decrements the "--iter->offset". This is incorrect because the next read() may not consume the whole bucket either and then the next-next read() will start from offset 0. The net effect is the userspace will keep reading from the beginning of a bucket and the process will never finish. "iter->offset" must always go forward until the whole bucket is consumed. This patch fixes it by using a local variable "resume_offset" and "resume_bucket". "iter->offset" is always reset to 0 before it may be used. "iter->offset" will be advanced to the "resume_offset" when it continues from the "resume_bucket" (i.e. "state->bucket == resume_bucket"). This brings it closer to the bpf_iter_tcp's offset handling which does not suffer the same bug. 2024-01-13bpf: iter_udp: Retry with a larger batch size without going back to the ↵Martin KaFai Lau1-1/+0
previous bucket The current logic is to use a default size 16 to batch the whole bucket. If it is too small, it will retry with a larger batch size. The current code accidentally does a state->bucket-- before retrying. This goes back to retry with the previous bucket which has already been done. This patch fixed it. It is hard to create a selftest. I added a WARN_ON(state->bucket < 0), forced a particular port to be hashed to the first bucket, created >16 sockets, and observed the for-loop went back to the "-1" bucket. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/netdev/net-next Pull networking updates from Paolo Abeni: "The most interesting thing is probably the networking structs reorganization and a significant amount of changes is around self-tests. Core & protocols: - Analyze and reorganize core networking structs (socks, netdev, netns, mibs) to optimize cacheline consumption and set up build time warnings to safeguard against future header changes This improves TCP performances with many concurrent connections up to 40% - Add page-pool netlink-based introspection, exposing the memory usage and recycling stats. This helps indentify bad PP users and possible leaks - Refine TCP/DCCP source port selection to no longer favor even source port at connect() time when IP_LOCAL_PORT_RANGE is set. This lowers the time taken by connect() for hosts having many active connections to the same destination - Refactor the TCP bind conflict code, shrinking related socket structs - Refactor TCP SYN-Cookie handling, as a preparation step to allow arbitrary SYN-Cookie processing via eBPF - Tune optmem_max for 0-copy usage, increasing the default value to 128KB and namespecifying it - Allow coalescing for cloned skbs coming from page pools, improving RX performances with some common configurations - Reduce extension header parsing overhead at GRO time - Add bridge MDB bulk deletion support, allowing user-space to request the deletion of matching entries - Reorder nftables struct members, to keep data accessed by the datapath first - Introduce TC block ports tracking and use. This allows supporting multicast-like behavior at the TC layer - Remove UAPI support for retired TC qdiscs (dsmark, CBQ and ATM) and classifiers (RSVP and tcindex) - More data-race annotations - Extend the diag interface to dump TCP bound-only sockets - Conditional notification of events for TC qdisc class and actions - Support for WPAN dynamic associations with nearby devices, to form a sub-network using a specific PAN ID - Implement SMCv2.1 virtual ISM device support - Add support for Batman-avd mulicast packet type BPF: - Tons of verifier improvements: - BPF register bounds logic and range support along with a large test suite - log improvements - complete precision tracking support for register spills - track aligned STACK_ZERO cases as imprecise spilled registers. This improves the verifier "instructions processed" metric from single digit to 50-60% for some programs - support for user's global BPF subprogram arguments with few commonly requested annotations for a better developer experience - support tracking of BPF_JNE which helps cases when the compiler transforms (unsigned) "a > 0" into "if a == 0 goto xxx" and the like - several fixes - Add initial TX metadata implementation for AF_XDP with support in mlx5 and stmmac drivers. Two types of offloads are supported right now, that is, TX timestamp and TX checksum offload - Fix kCFI bugs in BPF all forms of indirect calls from BPF into kernel and from kernel into BPF work with CFI enabled. This allows BPF to work with CONFIG_FINEIBT=y - Change BPF verifier logic to validate global subprograms lazily instead of unconditionally before the main program, so they can be guarded using BPF CO-RE techniques - Support uid/gid options when mounting bpffs - Add a new kfunc which acquires the associated cgroup of a task within a specific cgroup v1 hierarchy where the latter is identified by its id - Extend verifier to allow bpf_refcount_acquire() of a map value field obtained via direct load which is a use-case needed in sched_ext - Add BPF link_info support for uprobe multi link along with bpftool integration for the latter - Support for VLAN tag in XDP hints - Remove deprecated bpfilter kernel leftovers given the project is developed in user-space (https://github.com/facebook/bpfilter) Misc: - Support for parellel TC self-tests execution - Increase MPTCP self-tests coverage - Updated the bridge documentation, including several so-far undocumented features - Convert all the net self-tests to run in unique netns, to avoid random failures due to conflict and allow concurrent runs - Add TCP-AO self-tests - Add kunit tests for both cfg80211 and mac80211 - Autogenerate Netlink families documentation from YAML spec - Add yml-gen support for fixed headers and recursive nests, the tool can now generate user-space code for all genetlink families for which we have specs - A bunch of additional module descriptions fixes - Catch incorrect freeing of pages belonging to a page pool Driver API: - Rust abstractions for network PHY drivers; do not cover yet the full C API, but already allow implementing functional PHY drivers in rust - Introduce queue and NAPI support in the netdev Netlink interface, allowing complete access to the device <> NAPIs <> queues relationship - Introduce notifications filtering for devlink to allow control application scale to thousands of instances - Improve PHY validation, requesting rate matching information for each ethtool link mode supported by both the PHY and host - Add support for ethtool symmetric-xor RSS hash - ACPI based Wifi band RFI (WBRF) mitigation feature for the AMD platform - Expose pin fractional frequency offset value over new DPLL generic netlink attribute - Convert older drivers to platform remove callback returning void - Add support for PHY package MMD read/write New hardware / drivers: - Ethernet: - Octeon CN10K devices - Broadcom 5760X P7 - Qualcomm SM8550 SoC - Texas Instrument DP83TG720S PHY - Bluetooth: - IMC Networks Bluetooth radio Removed: - WiFi: - libertas 16-bit PCMCIA support - Atmel at76c50x drivers - HostAP ISA/PCMCIA style 802.11b driver - zd1201 802.11b USB dongles - Orinoco ISA/PCMCIA 802.11b driver - Aviator/Raytheon driver - Planet WL3501 driver - RNDIS USB 802.11b driver Driver updates: - Ethernet high-speed NICs: - Intel (100G, ice, idpf): - allow one by one port representors creation and removal - add temperature and clock information reporting - add get/set for ethtool's header split ringparam - add again FW logging - adds support switchdev hardware packet mirroring - iavf: implement symmetric-xor RSS hash - igc: add support for concurrent physical and free-running timers - i40e: increase the allowable descriptors - nVidia/Mellanox: - Preparation for Socket-Direct multi-dev netdev. 2024-01-04bpfilter: remove bpfilterQuentin Deslandes4-87/+0
bpfilter was supposed to convert iptables filtering rules into BPF programs on the fly, from the kernel, through a usermode helper. The base code for the UMH was introduced in 2018, and couple of attempts (2, 3) tried to introduce the BPF program generate features but were abandoned. bpfilter now sits in a kernel tree unused and unusable, occasionally causing confusion amongst Linux users (4, 5). As bpfilter is now developed in a dedicated repository on GitHub (6), it was suggested a couple of times this year (LSFMM/BPF 2023, LPC 2023) to remove the deprecated kernel part of the project. This is the purpose of this patch. 2023-12-23tcp: Iterate tb->bhash2 in inet_csk_bind_conflict().Kuniyuki Iwashima1-1/+17
Sockets in bhash are also linked to bhash2, but TIME_WAIT sockets are linked separately in tb2->deathrow. Let's replace tb->owners iteration in inet_csk_bind_conflict() with two iterations over tb2->owners and tb2->deathrow. This can be done safely under bhash's lock because socket insertion/ deletion in bhash2 happens with bhash's lock held. Note that twsk_for_each_bound_bhash() will be removed later. 2023-12-23tcp: Link bhash2 to bhash.Kuniyuki Iwashima2-11/+12
bhash2 added a new member sk_bind2_node in struct sock to link sockets to bhash2 in addition to bhash. bhash is still needed to search conflicting sockets efficiently from a port for the wildcard address. However, bhash itself need not have sockets. If we link each bhash2 bucket to the corresponding bhash bucket, we can iterate the same set of the sockets from bhash2 via bhash. This patch links bhash2 to bhash only, and the actual use will be in the later patches. Finally, we will remove sk_bind2_node. 2023-12-23tcp: Rename tb in inet_bind2_bucket_(init|create)().Kuniyuki Iwashima1-16/+16
Later, we no longer link sockets to bhash. Instead, each bhash2 bucket is linked to the corresponding bhash bucket. Then, we pass the bhash bucket to bhash2 allocation functions as tb. However, tb is already used in inet_bind2_bucket_create() and inet_bind2_bucket_init() as the bhash2 bucket. To make the following diff clear, let's use tb2 for the bhash2 bucket there. 2023-12-23tcp: Save address type in inet_bind2_bucket.Kuniyuki Iwashima1-16/+13
inet_bind2_bucket_addr_match() and inet_bind2_bucket_match_addr_any() are called for each bhash2 bucket to check conflicts. Thus, we call ipv6_addr_any() and ipv6_addr_v4mapped() over and over during bind(). Let's avoid calling them by saving the address type in inet_bind2_bucket. 2023-12-23tcp: Save v4 address as v4-mapped-v6 in inet_bind2_bucket.v6_rcv_saddr.Kuniyuki Iwashima1-17/+17
In bhash2, IPv4/IPv6 addresses are saved in two union members, which complicate address checks in inet_bind2_bucket_addr_match() and inet_bind2_bucket_match_addr_any() considering uninitialised memory and v4-mapped-v6 conflicts. Let's simplify that by saving IPv4 address as v4-mapped-v6 address and defining tb2.rcv_saddr as tb2.v6_rcv_saddr.s6_addr32[3]. Then, we can compare v6 address as is, and after checking v4-mapped-v6, we can compare v4 address easily. Also, we can remove tb2->family. 2023-12-23tcp: Use bhash2 for v4-mapped-v6 non-wildcard address.Kuniyuki Iwashima2-3/+7
While checking port availability in bind() or listen(), we used only bhash for all v4-mapped-v6 addresses. But there is no good reason not to use bhash2 for v4-mapped-v6 non-wildcard addresses. Let's do it by returning true in inet_use_bhash2_on_bind(). Then, we also need to add a test in inet_bind2_bucket_match_addr_any() so that ::ffff:X.X.X.X will match with 0.0.0.0. Note that sk->sk_rcv_saddr is initialised for v4-mapped-v6 sk in __inet6_bind(). https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/bpf/bpf-next Alexei Starovoitov says: ==================== pull-request: bpf-next 2023-12-18 This PR is larger than usual and contains changes in various parts of the kernel. The main changes are: 1) Fix kCFI bugs in BPF, from Peter Zijlstra. End result: all forms of indirect calls from BPF into kernel and from kernel into BPF work with CFI enabled. This allows BPF to work with CONFIG_FINEIBT=y. 2) Introduce BPF token object, from Andrii Nakryiko. It adds an ability to delegate a subset of BPF features from privileged daemon (e.g., systemd) through special mount options for userns-bound BPF FS to a trusted unprivileged application. The design accommodates suggestions from Christian Brauner and Paul Moore. Example: $ sudo mkdir -p /sys/fs/bpf/token $ sudo mount -t bpf bpffs /sys/fs/bpf/token \ -o delegate_cmds=prog_load:MAP_CREATE \ -o delegate_progs=kprobe \ -o delegate_attachs=xdp 3) Various verifier improvements and fixes, from Andrii Nakryiko, Andrei Matei. - Complete precision tracking support for register spills - Fix verification of possibly-zero-sized stack accesses - Fix access to uninit stack slots - Track aligned STACK_ZERO cases as imprecise spilled registers. It improves the verifier "instructions processed" metric from single digit to 50-60% for some programs. - Fix verifier retval logic 4) Support for VLAN tag in XDP hints, from Larysa Zaremba. 5) Allocate BPF trampoline via bpf_prog_pack mechanism, from Song Liu. End result: better memory utilization and lower I$ miss for calls to BPF via BPF trampoline. 6) Fix race between BPF prog accessing inner map and parallel delete, from Hou Tao. 7) Add bpf_xdp_get_xfrm_state() kfunc, from Daniel Xu. It allows BPF interact with IPSEC infra. The intent is to support software RSS (via XDP) for the upcoming ipsec pcpu work. Experiments on AWS demonstrate single tunnel pcpu ipsec reaching line rate on 100G ENA nics. 8) Expand bpf_cgrp_storage to support cgroup1 non-attach, from Yafang Shao. 9) BPF file verification via fsverity, from Song Liu. It allows BPF progs get fsverity digest. * tag 'for-netdev' of https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/bpf/bpf-next: (164 commits) bpf: Ensure precise is reset to false in __mark_reg_const_zero() selftests/bpf: Add more uprobe multi fail tests bpf: Fail uprobe multi link with negative offset selftests/bpf: Test the release of map btf s390/bpf: Fix indirect trampoline generation selftests/bpf: Temporarily disable dummy_struct_ops test on s390 x86/cfi,bpf: Fix bpf_exception_cb() signature bpf: Fix dtor CFI cfi: Add CFI_NOSEAL() x86/cfi,bpf: Fix bpf_struct_ops CFI x86/cfi,bpf: Fix bpf_callback_t CFI x86/cfi,bpf: Fix BPF JIT call cfi: Flip headers selftests/bpf: Add test for abnormal cnt during multi-kprobe attachment selftests/bpf: Don't use libbpf_get_error() in kprobe_multi_test selftests/bpf: Add test for abnormal cnt during multi-uprobe attachment bpf: Limit the number of kprobes when attaching program to multiple kprobes bpf: Limit the number of uprobes when attaching program to multiple uprobes bpf: xdp: Register generic_kfunc_set with XDP programs selftests/bpf: utilize string values for delegate_xxx mount options ... ==================== Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20231219000520.34178-1-alexei.starovoitov@gmail.com Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org>
