2023-06-16net: ioctl: Use kernel memory on protocol ioctl callbacksBreno Leitao1-8/+8
Most of the ioctls to net protocols operates directly on userspace argument (arg). Usually doing get_user()/put_user() directly in the ioctl callback. This is not flexible, because it is hard to reuse these functions without passing userspace buffers. Change the "struct proto" ioctls to avoid touching userspace memory and operate on kernel buffers, i.e., all protocol's ioctl callbacks is adapted to operate on a kernel memory other than on userspace (so, no more {put,get}_user() and friends being called in the ioctl callback). This changes the "struct proto" ioctl format in the following way: int (*ioctl)(struct sock *sk, int cmd, - unsigned long arg); + int *karg); (Important to say that this patch does not touch the "struct proto_ops" protocols) So, the "karg" argument, which is passed to the ioctl callback, is a pointer allocated to kernel space memory (inside a function wrapper). This buffer (karg) may contain input argument (copied from userspace in a prep function) and it might return a value/buffer, which is copied back to userspace if necessary. There is not one-size-fits-all format (that is I am using 'may' above), but basically, there are three type of ioctls: 1) Do not read from userspace, returns a result to userspace 2) Read an input parameter from userspace, and does not return anything to userspace 3) Read an input from userspace, and return a buffer to userspace. The default case (1) (where no input parameter is given, and an "int" is returned to userspace) encompasses more than 90% of the cases, but there are two other exceptions. Here is a list of exceptions: * Protocol RAW: * cmd = SIOCGETVIFCNT: * input and output = struct sioc_vif_req * cmd = SIOCGETSGCNT * input and output = struct sioc_sg_req * Explanation: for the SIOCGETVIFCNT case, userspace passes the input argument, which is struct sioc_vif_req. Then the callback populates the struct, which is copied back to userspace. * Protocol RAW6: * cmd = SIOCGETMIFCNT_IN6 * input and output = struct sioc_mif_req6 * cmd = SIOCGETSGCNT_IN6 * input and output = struct sioc_sg_req6 * Protocol PHONET: * cmd == SIOCPNADDRESOURCE | SIOCPNDELRESOURCE * input int (4 bytes) * Nothing is copied back to userspace. For the exception cases, functions sock_sk_ioctl_inout() will copy the userspace input, and copy it back to kernel space. The wrapper that prepare the buffer and put the buffer back to user is sk_ioctl(), so, instead of calling sk->sk_prot->ioctl(), the callee now calls sk_ioctl(), which will handle all cases. 2023-05-23ipv{4,6}/raw: fix output xfrm lookup wrt protocolNicolas Dichtel1-1/+2
With a raw socket bound to IPPROTO_RAW (ie with hdrincl enabled), the protocol field of the flow structure, build by raw_sendmsg() / rawv6_sendmsg()), is set to IPPROTO_RAW. This breaks the ipsec policy lookup when some policies are defined with a protocol in the selector. For ipv6, the sin6_port field from 'struct sockaddr_in6' could be used to specify the protocol. Just accept all values for IPPROTO_RAW socket. For ipv4, the sin_port field of 'struct sockaddr_in' could not be used without breaking backward compatibility (the value of this field was never checked). Let's add a new kind of control message, so that the userland could specify which protocol is used. 2023-04-05raw: Fix NULL deref in raw_get_next().Kuniyuki Iwashima1-6/+4
Dae R. Jeong reported a NULL deref in raw_get_next() [0]. However, we should use spinlock for slow paths to avoid the NULL deref. Also, SOCK_RAW does not use SLAB_TYPESAFE_BY_RCU, and the slab object is not reused during iteration in the grace period. In fact, the lockless readers do not check the nulls marker with get_nulls_value(). So, SOCK_RAW should use hlist instead of hlist_nulls. Instead of adding an unnecessary barrier by sk_nulls_for_each_rcu(), let's convert hlist_nulls to hlist and use sk_for_each_rcu() for fast paths and sk_for_each() and spinlock for /proc/net/raw. 2023-02-04raw: use net_hash_mix() in hash functionEric Dumazet1-2/+2
Some applications seem to rely on RAW sockets. If they use private netns, we can avoid piling all RAW sockets bound to a given protocol into a single bucket. Also place (struct raw_hashinfo).lock into its own cache line to limit false sharing. Alternative would be to have per-netns hashtables, but this seems too expensive for most netns where RAW sockets are not used. 2022-10-24inet6: Remove inet6_destroy_sock() in sk->sk_prot->destroy().Kuniyuki Iwashima1-2/+0
After commit d38afeec26ed ("tcp/udp: Call inet6_destroy_sock() in IPv6 sk->sk_destruct()."), we call inet6_destroy_sock() in sk->sk_destruct() by setting inet6_sock_destruct() to it to make sure we do not leak inet6-specific resources. Now we can remove unnecessary inet6_destroy_sock() calls in sk->sk_prot->destroy(). DCCP and SCTP have their own sk->sk_destruct() function, so we change them separately in the following patches. Using rwlock in networking code is extremely risky. writers can starve if enough readers are constantly grabing the rwlock. I thought rwlock were at fault and sent this patch: https://lkml.org/lkml/2022/6/17/272 But Peter and Linus essentially told me rwlock had to be unfair. We need to get rid of rwlock in networking code. 2022-04-12net: remove noblock parameter from recvmsg() entitiesOliver Hartkopp1-2/+1
The internal recvmsg() functions have two parameters 'flags' and 'noblock' that were merged inside skb_recv_datagram(). As a follow up patch to commit f4b41f062c42 ("net: remove noblock parameter from skb_recv_datagram()") this patch removes the separate 'noblock' parameter for recvmsg(). Analogue to the referenced patch for skb_recv_datagram() the 'flags' and 'noblock' parameters are unnecessarily split up with e.g. err = sk->sk_prot->recvmsg(sk, msg, size, flags & MSG_DONTWAIT, flags & ~MSG_DONTWAIT, &addr_len); or in err = INDIRECT_CALL_2(sk->sk_prot->recvmsg, tcp_recvmsg, udp_recvmsg, sk, msg, size, flags & MSG_DONTWAIT, flags & ~MSG_DONTWAIT, &addr_len); instead of simply using only flags all the time and check for MSG_DONTWAIT where needed (to preserve for the formerly separated no(n)block condition). 2022-04-06net: remove noblock parameter from skb_recv_datagram()Oliver Hartkopp1-1/+2
skb_recv_datagram() has two parameters 'flags' and 'noblock' that are merged inside skb_recv_datagram() by 'flags | (noblock ? MSG_DONTWAIT : 0)' As 'flags' may contain MSG_DONTWAIT as value most callers split the 'flags' into 'flags' and 'noblock' with finally obsolete bit operations like this: skb_recv_datagram(sk, flags & ~MSG_DONTWAIT, flags & MSG_DONTWAIT, &rc); And this is not even done consistently with the 'flags' parameter. This patch removes the obsolete and costly splitting into two parameters and only performs bit operations when really needed on the caller side. One missing conversion thankfully reported by kernel test robot. I missed to enable kunit tests to build the mctp code. 2021-12-29ipv6: raw: check passed optlen before readingTamir Duberstein1-0/+3
Add a check that the user-provided option is at least as long as the number of bytes we intend to read. Before this patch we would blindly read sizeof(int) bytes even in cases where the user passed optlen<sizeof(int), which would potentially read garbage or fault. Discovered by new tests in https://github.com/google/gvisor/pull/6957 . The original get_user call predates history in the git repo. 2021-04-05net-ipv6: bugfix - raw & sctp - switch to ipv6_can_nonlocal_bind()Maciej Żenczykowski1-1/+1
Found by virtue of ipv6 raw sockets not honouring the per-socket IP{,V6}_FREEBIND setting. Based on hits found via: git grep '[.]ip_nonlocal_bind' We fix both raw ipv6 sockets to honour IP{,V6}_FREEBIND and IP{,V6}_TRANSPARENT, and we fix sctp sockets to honour IP{,V6}_TRANSPARENT (they already honoured FREEBIND), and not just the ipv6 'ip_nonlocal_bind' sysctl. The helper is defined as: static inline bool ipv6_can_nonlocal_bind(struct net *net, struct inet_sock *inet) { return net->ipv6.sysctl.ip_nonlocal_bind || inet->freebind || inet->transparent; } so this change only widens the accepted opt-outs and is thus a clean bugfix. I'm not entirely sure what 'fixes' tag to add, since this is AFAICT an ancient bug, but IMHO this should be applied to stable kernels as far back as possible. As such I'm adding a 'fixes' tag with the commit that originally added the helper, which happened in 4.19. Backporting to older LTS kernels (at least 4.9 and 4.14) would presumably require open-coding it or backporting the helper as well. It's always 0. Note that we theoretically could use ~0U as well - result will be the same modulo 0xffff, _if_ the damn thing did the right thing for any value of initial sum; later we'll make use of that when convenient. 2019-10-01netfilter: drop bridge nf reset from nf_resetFlorian Westphal1-1/+1
commit 174e23810cd31 ("sk_buff: drop all skb extensions on free and skb scrubbing") made napi recycle always drop skb extensions. The additional skb_ext_del() that is performed via nf_reset on napi skb recycle is not needed anymore. Most nf_reset() calls in the stack are there so queued skb won't block 'rmmod nf_conntrack' indefinitely. This removes the skb_ext_del from nf_reset, and renames it to a more fitting nf_reset_ct(). In a few selected places, add a call to skb_ext_reset to make sure that no active extensions remain. I am submitting this for "net", because we're still early in the release cycle. The patch applies to net-next too, but I think the rename causes needless divergence between those trees. Enable setting skb->mark for UDP and RAW sockets using cmsg. This is analogous to existing support for TOS, TTL, txtime, etc. Packet sockets already support this as of commit c7d39e32632e ("packet: support per-packet fwmark for af_packet sendmsg"). Similar to other fields, implement by 1. initialize the sockcm_cookie.mark from socket option sk_mark 2. optionally overwrite this in ip_cmsg_send/ip6_datagram_send_ctl 3. initialize inet_cork.mark from sockcm_cookie.mark 4. initialize each (usually just one) skb->mark from inet_cork.mark Step 1 is handled in one location for most protocols by ipcm_init_sk as of commit 351782067b6b ("ipv4: ipcm_cookie initializers"). 2019-07-09ipv6: elide flowlabel check if no exclusive leases existWillem de Bruijn1-2/+2
Processes can request ipv6 flowlabels with cmsg IPV6_FLOWINFO. If not set, by default an autogenerated flowlabel is selected. Explicit flowlabels require a control operation per label plus a datapath check on every connection (every datagram if unconnected). This is particularly expensive on unconnected sockets multiplexing many flows, such as QUIC. In the common case, where no lease is exclusive, the check can be safely elided, as both lease request and check trivially succeed. Indeed, autoflowlabel does the same even with exclusive leases. Elide the check if no process has requested an exclusive lease. fl6_sock_lookup previously returns either a reference to a lease or NULL to denote failure. Modify to return a real error and update all callers. On return NULL, they can use the label and will elide the atomic_dec in fl6_sock_release. This is an optimization. Robust applications still have to revert to requesting leases if the fast path fails due to an exclusive lease. The following code returns EFAULT (Bad address): s = socket(AF_INET6, SOCK_RAW, IPPROTO_ICMPV6); setsockopt(s, SOL_IPV6, IPV6_HDRINCL, 1); sendto(ipv6_icmp6_packet, addr); /* returns -1, errno = EFAULT */ The IPv4 equivalent code works. A workaround is to use IPPROTO_RAW instead of IPPROTO_ICMPV6. The failure happens because 2 bytes are eaten from the msghdr by rawv6_probe_proto_opt() starting from commit 19e3c66b52ca ("ipv6 equivalent of "ipv4: Avoid reading user iov twice after raw_probe_proto_opt""), but at that time it was not a problem because IPV6_HDRINCL was not yet introduced. Only eat these 2 bytes if hdrincl == 0. IPv6 does not consider if the socket is bound to a device when binding to an address. The result is that a socket can be bound to eth0 and then bound to the address of eth1. 2019-04-20net: rework SIOCGSTAMP ioctl handlingArnd Bergmann1-0/+1
The SIOCGSTAMP/SIOCGSTAMPNS ioctl commands are implemented by many socket protocol handlers, and all of those end up calling the same sock_get_timestamp()/sock_get_timestampns() helper functions, which results in a lot of duplicate code. With the introduction of 64-bit time_t on 32-bit architectures, this gets worse, as we then need four different ioctl commands in each socket protocol implementation. To simplify that, let's add a new .gettstamp() operation in struct proto_ops, and move ioctl implementation into the common sock_ioctl()/compat_sock_ioctl_trans() functions that these all go through. We can reuse the sock_get_timestamp() implementation, but generalize it so it can deal with both native and compat mode, as well as timeval and timespec structures. 2018-11-08net: fix raw socket lookup device bind matching with VRFsDuncan Eastoe1-3/+2
When there exist a pair of raw sockets one unbound and one bound to a VRF but equal in all other respects, when a packet is received in the VRF context, __raw_v4_lookup() matches on both sockets. This results in the packet being delivered over both sockets, instead of only the raw socket bound to the VRF. The bound device checks in __raw_v4_lookup() are replaced with a call to raw_sk_bound_dev_eq() which correctly handles whether the packet should be delivered over the unbound socket in such cases. In __raw_v6_lookup() the match on the device binding of the socket is similarly updated to use raw_sk_bound_dev_eq() which matches the handling in __raw_v4_lookup(). Importantly raw_sk_bound_dev_eq() takes the raw_l3mdev_accept sysctl into account. In rawv6_send_hdrinc(), in order to avoid an extra dst_hold(), we directly assign the dst to skb and set passed in dst to NULL to avoid double free. However, in error case, we free skb and then do stats update with the dst pointer passed in. This causes use-after-free on the dst. Fix it by taking rcu read lock right before dst could get released to make sure dst does not get freed until the stats update is done. Note: we don't have this issue in ipv4 cause dst is not used for stats update in v4. 2018-06-28Revert changes to convert to ->poll_mask() and aio IOCB_CMD_POLLLinus Torvalds1-2/+2
The poll() changes were not well thought out, and completely unexplained. They also caused a huge performance regression, because "->poll()" was no longer a trivial file operation that just called down to the underlying file operations, but instead did at least two indirect calls. Indirect calls are sadly slow now with the Spectre mitigation, but the performance problem could at least be largely mitigated by changing the "->get_poll_head()" operation to just have a per-file-descriptor pointer to the poll head instead. That gets rid of one of the new indirections. But that doesn't fix the new complexity that is completely unwarranted for the regular case. The (undocumented) reason for the poll() changes was some alleged AIO poll race fixing, but we don't make the common case slower and more complex for some uncommon special case, so this all really needs way more explanations and most likely a fundamental redesign.
