commit 0aec96f5897ac16ad9945f531b4bef9a2edd2ebd upstream.
Jia-Ju Bai reported a possible sleep-in-atomic scenario in the ice1724
driver with Infrasonic Quartet support code: namely, ice->set_rate
callback gets called inside ice->reg_lock spinlock, while the callback
in quartet.c holds ice->gpio_mutex.
This patch fixes the invalid call: it simply moves the calls of
ice->set_rate and ice->set_mclk callbacks outside the spinlock.

We made the error message for the CORB/RIRB communication clearer by
upgrading to dev_WARN() so that user can notice better. But this
struck us like a boomerang: now it caught syzbot and reported back as

This is an alternative fix attemp for the issue reported in the commit
caa8422d01e9 ("ALSA: hda: Flush interrupts on disabling") that was
reverted later due to regressions. Instead of tweaking the hardware
disablement order and the enforced irq flushing, do calling
cancel_work_sync() of the unsol work early enough, and explicitly
ignore the unsol events during the shutdown by checking the
bus->shutdown flag.

commit 15c2b3cc09a31620914955cb2a89c277c18ee999 upstream.
The unsolicited event handler for the headphone jack on CA0132 codec
driver tries to reschedule the another delayed work with
cancel_delayed_work_sync(). It's no good idea, unfortunately,

global queue.
Fix it by dropping the _sync but does call cancel_delayed_work()

[ Upstream commit 1a7f60b9df614bb36d14dc0c0bc898a31b2b506f ]
This reverts commit caa8422d01e983782548648e125fd617cadcec3f.
It turned out that this commit caused a regression at shutdown /
reboot, as the synchronize_irq() calls seems blocking the whole
shutdown. Also another part of the change about shuffling the call
order looks suspicious; the azx_stop_chip() call disables the CORB /
RIRB while the others may still need the CORB/RIRB update.
Since the original commit itself was a cargo-fix, let's revert the
whole patch.

commit 89781d0806c2c4f29072d3f00cb2dd4274aabc3d upstream.
The recent change to shuffle the codec initialization procedure for
Realtek via commit 607ca3bd220f ("ALSA: hda/realtek - EAPD turn on
later") caused the silent output on some machines. This change was
supposed to be safe, but it isn't actually; some devices have quirk
setups to override the EAPD via COEF or BTL in the additional verb
table, which is applied at the beginning of snd_hda_gen_init(). And
this EAPD setup is again overridden in alc_auto_init_amp().
For recovering from the regression, tell snd_hda_gen_init() not to
apply the verbs there by a new flag, then apply the verbs in
alc_init().

[ Upstream commit f495222e28275222ab6fd93813bd3d462e16d340 ]
Currently the IRQ handler in HD-audio controller driver is registered
before the chip initialization. That is, we have some window opened
between the azx_acquire_irq() call and the CORB/RIRB setup. If an
interrupt is triggered in this small window, the IRQ handler may
access to the uninitialized RIRB buffer, which leads to a NULL
dereference Oops.
This is usually no big problem since most of Intel chips do register
the IRQ via MSI, and we've already fixed the order of the IRQ
enablement and the CORB/RIRB setup in the former commit b61749a89f82
("sound: enable interrupt after dma buffer initialization"), hence the
IRQ won't be triggered in that room. However, some platforms use a
shared IRQ, and this may allow the IRQ trigger by another source.
Another possibility is the kdump environment: a stale interrupt might
be present in there, the IRQ handler can be falsely triggered as well.
For covering this small race, let's move the azx_acquire_irq() call
after hda_intel_init_chip() call. Although this is a bit radical
change, it can cover more widely than checking the CORB/RIRB setup
locally in the callee side.

commit 7f641e26a6df9269cb25dd7a4b0a91d6586ed441 upstream.
On the machines with AMD GPU or Nvidia GPU, we often meet this issue:
after s3, there are 4 HDMI/DP audio devices in the gnome-sound-setting
even there is no any monitors plugged.
When this problem happens, we check the /proc/asound/cardX/eld#N.M, we
will find the monitor_present=1, eld_valid=0.
The root cause is BIOS or GPU driver makes the PRESENCE valid even no
monitor plugged, and of course the driver will not get the valid
eld_data subsequently.
In this situation, we should not report the jack_plugged event, to do
so, let us change the function hdmi_present_sense_via_verbs(). In this
function, it reads the pin_sense via snd_hda_pin_sense(), after
calling this function, the jack_dirty is 0, and before exiting
via_verbs(), we change the shadow pin_sense according to both
monitor_present and eld_valid, then in the snd_hda_jack_report_sync(),
since the jack_dirty is still 0, it will report jack event according
to this modified shadow pin_sense.
After this change, the driver will not report Jack_is_plugged event
through hdmi_present_sense_via_verbs() if monitor_present is 1 and
eld_valid is 0.

commit b5a236c175b0d984552a5f7c9d35141024c2b261 upstream.
Recently we found the audio jack detection stop working after suspend
on many machines with Realtek codec. Sometimes the audio selection
dialogue didn't show up after users plugged headhphone/headset into
the headset jack, sometimes after uses plugged headphone/headset, then
click the sound icon on the upper-right corner of gnome-desktop, it
also showed the speaker rather than the headphone.
The root cause is that before suspend, the codec already call the
runtime_suspend since this codec is not used by any apps, then in
resume, it will not call runtime_resume for this codec. But for some
realtek codec (so far, alc236, alc255 and alc891) with the specific
BIOS, if it doesn't run runtime_resume after suspend, all codec
functions including jack detection stop working anymore.
This problem existed for a long time, but it was not exposed, that is
because when problem happens, if users play sound or open
sound-setting to check audio device, this will trigger calling to
runtime_resume (via snd_hda_power_up), then the codec starts working
again before users notice this problem.
Since we don't know how many codec and BIOS combinations have this
problem, to fix it, let the driver call runtime_resume for all codecs
in pm_resume, maybe for some codecs, this is not needed, but it is
harmless. After a codec is runtime resumed, if it is not used by any
apps, it will be runtime suspended soon and furthermore we don't run
suspend frequently, this change will not add much power consumption.

commit 98081ca62cbac31fb0f7efaf90b2e7384ce22257 upstream.
Currently we deal with single codec and suspend codec callbacks for
all S3, S4 and runtime PM handling. But it turned out that we want
distinguish the call patterns sometimes, e.g. for applying some init
sequence only at probing and restoring from hibernate.
This patch slightly modifies the common PM callbacks for HD-audio
codec and stores the currently processed PM event in power_state of
the codec's device.power field, which is currently unused. The codec
callback can take a look at this event value and judges which purpose
it's being called.

commit 305a0ade180981686eec1f92aa6252a7c6ebb1cf upstream.
In the current code, the codec registration may happen both at the
codec bind time and the end of the controller probe time. In a rare
occasion, they race with each other, leading to Oops due to the still
uninitialized card device.
This patch introduces a simple flag to prevent the codec registration
at the codec bind time as long as the controller probe is going on.
The controller probe invokes snd_card_register() that does the whole
registration task, and we don't need to register each piece
beforehand.

commit 63d2a9ec310d8bcc955574220d4631aa55c1a80c upstream.
Even after disabling interrupts on the module, it could be possible
that irq handlers are still running. System hang is seen during
suspend path. It was found that, there were pending writes on the
HDA bus and clock was disabled by that time.
Above mentioned issue is fixed by clearing any pending irq handlers
before disabling clocks and returning from hda suspend.

commit d6b340d7cb33c816ef4abe8143764ec5ab14a5cc upstream.
The meddlesome gcc warns about the possible shortname string in
trident driver code:
sound/pci/trident/trident.c: In function ‘snd_trident_probe’:
sound/pci/trident/trident.c:126:2: warning: ‘strcat’ accessing 17 or more bytes at offsets 36 and 20 may overlap 1 byte at offset 36 [-Wrestrict]
strcat(card->shortname, card->driver);
It happens since gcc calculates the possible string size from
card->driver, but this can't be true since we did set the string just
before that, and they are much shorter.
For shutting it up, use the exactly same string set to card->driver
for strcat() to card->shortname, too.

commit 7194eda1ba0872d917faf3b322540b4f57f11ba5 upstream.
The function snd_ac97_put_spsa() gets the bit shift value from the
associated private_value, but it extracts too much; the current code
extracts 8 bit values in bits 8-15, but this is a combination of two
nibbles (bits 8-11 and bits 12-15) for left and right shifts.
Due to the incorrect bits extraction, the actual shift may go beyond
the 32bit value, as spotted recently by UBSAN check:
UBSAN: Undefined behaviour in sound/pci/ac97/ac97_codec.c:836:7
shift exponent 68 is too large for 32-bit type 'int'
This patch fixes the shift value extraction by masking the properly
with 0x0f instead of 0xff.

[ Upstream commit 78c9be61c3a5cd9e2439fd27a5ffad73a81958c7 ]
Introduce a new flag, uc_buffer, to indicate that the controller
requires the non-cached pages for stream buffers, either as a
chip-specific requirement or specified via snoop=0 option.
This improves the code-readability.
Also, this patch fixes the incorrect behavior for C-Media chip where
the stream buffers were never handled as non-cached due to the check
of driver_type even if you pass snoop=0 option.

commit ac237c28d5ac1b241d58b1b7b4b9fa10efb22fb5 upstream.
The Creative Audigy SE (SB0570) card currently exhibits an audible pop
whenever playback is stopped or resumed, or during silent periods of an
audio stream. Initialise the IZD bit to the 0 to eliminate these pops.
The Infinite Zero Detection (IZD) feature on the DAC causes the output
to be shunted to Vcap after 2048 samples of silence. This discharges the
AC coupling capacitor through the output and causes the aforementioned
pop/click noise.
The behaviour of the IZD bit is described on page 15 of the WM8768GEDS
datasheet: "With IZD=1, applying MUTE for 1024 consecutive input samples
will cause all outputs to be connected directly to VCAP. This also
happens if 2048 consecutive zero input samples are applied to all 6
channels, and IZD=0. It will be removed as soon as any channel receives
a non-zero input". I believe the second sentence might be referring to
IZD=1 instead of IZD=0 given the observed behaviour of the card.
This change should make the DAC initialisation consistent with
Creative's Windows driver, as this popping persists when initialising
the card in Linux and soft rebooting into Windows, but is not present on
a cold boot to Windows.

commit 16037643969e095509cd8446a3f8e406a6dc3a2c upstream.
On AMD/ATI controllers, the HD-audio controller driver allows a bus
reset upon the error recovery, and its procedure includes the
cancellation of pending jack polling work as found in
snd_hda_bus_codec_reset(). This works usually fine, but it becomes a
problem when the reset happens from the jack poll work itself; then
calling cancel_work_sync() from the work being processed tries to wait
the finish endlessly.
As a workaround, this patch adds the check of current_work() and
applies the cancel_work_sync() only when it's not from the
jackpoll_work.
This doesn't fix the root cause of the reported error below, but at
least, it eases the unexpected stall of the whole system.

commit 69756930f2de0457d51db7d505a1e4f40e9fd116 upstream.
One place in cs5535audio_build_dma_packets() does an extra conversion

the conversion by itself, and we don't need to convert beforehand.
