2019-01-06arch: remove redundant UAPI generic-y definesMasahiro Yamada1-6/+0
Now that Kbuild automatically creates asm-generic wrappers for missing mandatory headers, it is redundant to list the same headers in generic-y and mandatory-y. Suggested-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <yamada.masahiro@socionext.com> Acked-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org>
2019-01-06arch: remove stale comments "UAPI Header export list"Masahiro Yamada1-1/+0
These comments are leftovers of commit fcc8487d477a ("uapi: export all headers under uapi directories"). Prior to that commit, exported headers must be explicitly added to header-y. Now, all headers under the uapi/ directories are exported. Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <yamada.masahiro@socionext.com>

2019-01-05ia64: fix compile without swiotlbChristoph Hellwig2-1/+3
Some non-generic ia64 configs don't build swiotlb, and thus should not pull in the generic non-coherent DMA infrastructure. 2019-01-05mm: treewide: remove unused address argument from pte_alloc functionsJoel Fernandes (Google)1-3/+2
Patch series "Add support for fast mremap". This series speeds up the mremap(2) syscall by copying page tables at the PMD level even for non-THP systems. There is concern that the extra 'address' argument that mremap passes to pte_alloc may do something subtle architecture related in the future that may make the scheme not work. Also we find that there is no point in passing the 'address' to pte_alloc since its unused. This patch therefore removes this argument tree-wide resulting in a nice negative diff as well. Also ensuring along the way that the enabled architectures do not do anything funky with the 'address' argument that goes unnoticed by the optimization. Build and boot tested on x86-64. Build tested on arm64. The config enablement patch for arm64 will be posted in the future after more testing. The changes were obtained by applying the following Coccinelle script. (thanks Julia for answering all Coccinelle questions!). Following fix ups were done manually: * Removal of address argument from pte_fragment_alloc * Removal of pte_alloc_one_fast definitions from m68k and microblaze. // Options: --include-headers --no-includes // Note: I split the 'identifier fn' line, so if you are manually // running it, please unsplit it so it runs for you. virtual patch @pte_alloc_func_def depends on patch exists@ identifier E2; identifier fn =~ "^(__pte_alloc|pte_alloc_one|pte_alloc|__pte_alloc_kernel|pte_alloc_one_kernel)$"; type T2; @@ fn(... - , T2 E2 ) { ... } @pte_alloc_func_proto_noarg depends on patch exists@ type T1, T2, T3, T4; identifier fn =~ "^(__pte_alloc|pte_alloc_one|pte_alloc|__pte_alloc_kernel|pte_alloc_one_kernel)$"; @@ ( - T3 fn(T1, T2); + T3 fn(T1); | - T3 fn(T1, T2, T4); + T3 fn(T1, T2); ) @pte_alloc_func_proto depends on patch exists@ identifier E1, E2, E4; type T1, T2, T3, T4; identifier fn =~ "^(__pte_alloc|pte_alloc_one|pte_alloc|__pte_alloc_kernel|pte_alloc_one_kernel)$"; @@ ( - T3 fn(T1 E1, T2 E2); + T3 fn(T1 E1); | - T3 fn(T1 E1, T2 E2, T4 E4); + T3 fn(T1 E1, T2 E2); ) @pte_alloc_func_call depends on patch exists@ expression E2; identifier fn =~ "^(__pte_alloc|pte_alloc_one|pte_alloc|__pte_alloc_kernel|pte_alloc_one_kernel)$"; @@ fn(... -, E2 ) @pte_alloc_macro depends on patch exists@ identifier fn =~ "^(__pte_alloc|pte_alloc_one|pte_alloc|__pte_alloc_kernel|pte_alloc_one_kernel)$"; identifier a, b, c; expression e; position p; @@ ( - #define fn(a, b, c) e + #define fn(a, b) e | - #define fn(a, b) e + #define fn(a) e ) Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/20181108181201.88826-2-joelaf@google.com Signed-off-by: Joel Fernandes (Google) <joel@joelfernandes.org> Suggested-by: Kirill A. 2019-01-05fls: change parameter to unsigned intMatthew Wilcox1-2/+1
When testing in userspace, UBSAN pointed out that shifting into the sign bit is undefined behaviour. It doesn't really make sense to ask for the highest set bit of a negative value, so just turn the argument type into an unsigned int. Some architectures (eg ppc) already had it declared as an unsigned int, so I don't expect too many problems. 2019-01-04Remove 'type' argument from access_ok() functionLinus Torvalds4-6/+6
Nobody has actually used the type (VERIFY_READ vs VERIFY_WRITE) argument of the user address range verification function since we got rid of the old racy i386-only code to walk page tables by hand. It existed because the original 80386 would not honor the write protect bit when in kernel mode, so you had to do COW by hand before doing any user access. But we haven't supported that in a long time, and these days the 'type' argument is a purely historical artifact. A discussion about extending 'user_access_begin()' to do the range checking resulted this patch, because there is no way we're going to move the old VERIFY_xyz interface to that model. And it's best done at the end of the merge window when I've done most of my merges, so let's just get this done once and for all. This patch was mostly done with a sed-script, with manual fix-ups for the cases that weren't of the trivial 'access_ok(VERIFY_xyz' form. There were a couple of notable cases: - csky still had the old "verify_area()" name as an alias. - the iter_iov code had magical hardcoded knowledge of the actual values of VERIFY_{READ,WRITE} (not that they mattered, since nothing really used it) - microblaze used the type argument for a debug printout but other than those oddities this should be a total no-op patch. I tried to fix up all architectures, did fairly extensive grepping for access_ok() uses, and the changes are trivial, but I may have missed something. Any missed conversion should be trivially fixable, though. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

2018-12-28mm, memory_hotplug: add nid parameter to arch_remove_memoryOscar Salvador1-1/+1
Patch series "Do not touch pages in hot-remove path", v2. This patchset aims for two things: 1) A better definition about offline and hot-remove stage 2) Solving bugs where we can access non-initialized pages during hot-remove operations [2] [3]. This is achieved by moving all page/zone handling to the offline stage, so we do not need to access pages when hot-removing memory. [1] https://patchwork.kernel.org/cover/10691415/ [2] https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10547445/ [3] https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-mm/msg161316.html This patch (of 5): This is a preparation for the following-up patches. The idea of passing the nid is that it will allow us to get rid of the zone parameter afterwards. The Kconfig lexer supports special characters such as '.' and '/' in the parameter context. In my understanding, the reason is just to support bare file paths in the source statement. While the dma-direct code is (relatively) clean and simple we actually have to use the swiotlb ops for the mapping on many architectures due to devices with addressing limits. Instead of keeping two implementations around this commit allows the dma-direct implementation to call the swiotlb bounce buffering functions and thus share the guts of the mapping implementation. 2018-11-27ia64: export node_distance functionMatias Bjørling3-4/+12
The numa_slit variable used by node_distance is available to a module as long as it is linked at compile-time. However, it is not available to loadable modules. Leading to errors such as: ERROR: "numa_slit" [drivers/nvme/host/nvme-core.ko] undefined! The error above is caused by the nvme multipath code that makes use of node_distance for its path calculation. When the patch was added, the lightnvm subsystem would select nvme and always compile it in, leading to the node_distance call to always succeed. However, when this requirement was removed, nvme could be compiled in as a module, which exposed this bug. This patch extracts node_distance to a function and exports it. Since ACPI is depending on node_distance being a simple lookup to numa_slit, the previous behavior is exposed as slit_distance and its users updated. 2018-11-13ia64: generate uapi header and system call table filesFiroz Khan5-658/+9
System call table generation script must be run to gener- ate unistd_64.h and syscall_table.h files. This patch will have changes which will invokes the script. This patch will generate unistd_64.h and syscall_table.h files by the syscall table generation script invoked by ia64/Makefile and the generated files against the removed files must be identical. The generated uapi header file will be included in uapi/- asm/unistd.h and generated system call table header file will be included by kernel/entry.S file. 2018-11-13ia64: add system call table generation supportFiroz Khan4-0/+445
The system call tables are in different format in all architecture and it will be difficult to manually add, modify or delete the syscall table entries in the res- pective files. To make it easy by keeping a script and which will generate the uapi header and syscall table file. This change will also help to unify the implemen- tation across all architectures. The system call table generation script is added in kernel/syscalls directory which contain the scripts to generate both uapi header file and system call table files. The syscall.tbl will be input for the scripts. syscall.tbl contains the list of available system calls along with system call number and corresponding entry point. Add a new system call in this architecture will be possible by adding new entry in the syscall.tbl file. Adding a new table entry consisting of: - System call number. - ABI. - System call name. - Entry point name. syscallhdr.sh and syscalltbl.sh will generate uapi header unistd_64.h and syscall_table.h files respectively. Both .sh files will parse the content syscall.tbl to generate the header and table files. unistd_64.h will be included by uapi/asm/unistd.h and syscall_table.h is included by kernel/entry.S - the real system call table. ARM, s390 and x86 architecuture does have similar support. I leverage their implementation to come up with a generic solution. 2018-11-13ia64: add an offset for system call numberFiroz Khan1-322/+323
The system call number in ia64 architecture starts with 1024. But most of the other architecute starts with 0. In order to come up with a common implementation to generate uapi header we need to add an offset - __NR_Linux with a value 1024. One of the patch in this patch series does have a script to generate uapi header which uses syscall.tbl file. In syscall- .tbl contain system call number. With the use of __NR_Linux, we can start the number from 0 instead of 1024. Signed-off-by: Firoz Khan <firoz.khan@linaro.org> Signed-off-by: Tony Luck <tony.luck@intel.com>
2018-11-13ia64: add __NR_syscalls along with NR_syscallsFiroz Khan2-3/+5
NR_syscalls macro holds the number of system call exist in ia64 architecture. We have to change the value of NR- _syscalls, if we add or delete a system call. One of the patch in this patch series has a script which will generate a uapi header based on syscall.tbl file. The syscall.tbl file contains the total number of system calls information. So we have two option to update NR_sy- scalls value. 1. Update NR_syscalls in asm/unistd.h manually by count- ing the no.of system calls. No need to update NR_sys- calls until we either add a new system call or delete existing system call. 2. We can keep this feature it above mentioned script, that will count the number of syscalls and keep it in a generated file. In this case we don't need to expli- citly update NR_syscalls in asm/unistd.h file. The 2nd option will be the recommended one. For that, I added the __NR_syscalls macro in uapi/asm/unistd.h along with NR_syscalls asm/unistd.h. The macro __NR_syscalls also added for making the name convention same across all architecture. While __NR_syscalls isn't strictly part of the uapi, having it as part of the generated header to simplifies the implementation. We also need to enclose this macro with #ifdef __KERNEL__ to avoid side effects. Signed-off-by: Firoz Khan <firoz.khan@linaro.org> Signed-off-by: Tony Luck <tony.luck@intel.com>
2018-11-13ia64: add __NR_old_getpagesize in uapi header fileFiroz Khan1-1/+1
sys_getpagesize entry is present in kernel/entry.S file to support for old user interface. So we need to add an uapi entry too. Add __NR_old_getpagesize in uapi/asm/unistd.h in order to not break old user space as it is reserved for backwards compatibility with old __NR_getpagesize. 2018-10-31memblock: stop using implicit alignment to SMP_CACHE_BYTESMike Rapoport4-7/+12
When a memblock allocation APIs are called with align = 0, the alignment is implicitly set to SMP_CACHE_BYTES. Implicit alignment is done deep in the memblock allocator and it can come as a surprise. Not that such an alignment would be wrong even when used incorrectly but it is better to be explicit for the sake of clarity and the prinicple of the least surprise. Replace all such uses of memblock APIs with the 'align' parameter explicitly set to SMP_CACHE_BYTES and stop implicit alignment assignment in the memblock internal allocation functions. For the case when memblock APIs are used via helper functions, e.g. like iommu_arena_new_node() in Alpha, the helper functions were detected with Coccinelle's help and then manually examined and updated where appropriate.
