2010-03-13m32r: use generic ptrace_resume codeChristoph Hellwig1-0/+2
Use the generic ptrace_resume code for PTRACE_SYSCALL, PTRACE_CONT, PTRACE_KILL and PTRACE_SINGLESTEP. This implies defining arch_has_single_step in <asm/ptrace.h> and implementing the user_enable_single_step and user_disable_single_step functions, which also causes the breakpoint information to be cleared on fork, which could be considered a bug fix. Also the TIF_SYSCALL_TRACE thread flag is now cleared on PTRACE_KILL which it previously wasn't, which is consistent with all architectures using the modern ptrace code. The old code only disables the breakpoints on PTRACE_KILL, while after this patch this also happens for PTRACE_CONT and PTRACE_SYSCALL which matches the behaviour of the other architetures. I think this is a bugfixes, but please double verify this is correct. 2010-03-13Add generic sys_ipc wrapperChristoph Hellwig1-0/+1
Add a generic implementation of the ipc demultiplexer syscall. Except for s390 and sparc64 all implementations of the sys_ipc are nearly identical. There are slight differences in the types of the parameters, where mips and powerpc as the only 64-bit architectures with sys_ipc use unsigned long for the "third" argument as it gets casted to a pointer later, while it traditionally is an "int" like most other paramters. frv goes even further and uses unsigned long for all parameters execept for "ptr" which is a pointer type everywhere. The change from int to unsigned long for "third" and back to "int" for the others on frv should be fine due to the in-register calling conventions for syscalls (we already had a similar issue with the generic sys_ptrace), but I'd prefer to have the arch maintainers looks over this in details. Except for that h8300, m68k and m68knommu lack an impplementation of the semtimedop sub call which this patch adds, and various architectures have gets used - at least on i386 it seems superflous as the compat code on x86-64 and ia64 doesn't even bother to implement it. 2010-02-20MM: Pass a PTE pointer to update_mmu_cache() rather than the PTE itselfRussell King1-1/+1
On VIVT ARM, when we have multiple shared mappings of the same file in the same MM, we need to ensure that we have coherency across all copies. We do this via make_coherent() by making the pages uncacheable. This used to work fine, until we allowed highmem with highpte - we now have a page table which is mapped as required, and is not available for modification via update_mmu_cache(). Ralf Beache suggested getting rid of the PTE value passed to update_mmu_cache(): On MIPS update_mmu_cache() calls __update_tlb() which walks pagetables to construct a pointer to the pte again. Passing a pte_t * is much more elegant. Maybe we might even replace the pte argument with the pte_t? Ben Herrenschmidt would also like the pte pointer for PowerPC: Passing the ptep in there is exactly what I want. I want that -instead- of the PTE value, because I have issue on some ppc cases, for I$/D$ coherency, where set_pte_at() may decide to mask out the _PAGE_EXEC. So, pass in the mapped page table pointer into update_mmu_cache(), and remove the PTE value, updating all implementations and call sites to suit. 2009-11-26block: add helpers to run flush_dcache_page() against a bio and a request's ↵Ilya Loginov1-0/+3
pages Mtdblock driver doesn't call flush_dcache_page for pages in request. So, this causes problems on architectures where the icache doesn't fill from the dcache or with dcache aliases. The patch fixes this. The ARCH_IMPLEMENTS_FLUSH_DCACHE_PAGE symbol was introduced to avoid pointless empty cache-thrashing loops on architectures for which flush_dcache_page() is a no-op. Every architecture was provided with this flush pages on architectires where ARCH_IMPLEMENTS_FLUSH_DCACHE_PAGE is equal 1 or do nothing otherwise. 2009-10-13net: Generalize socket rx gap / receive queue overflow cmsgNeil Horman1-0/+2
Create a new socket level option to report number of queue overflows Recently I augmented the AF_PACKET protocol to report the number of frames lost on the socket receive queue between any two enqueued frames. This value was exported via a SOL_PACKET level cmsg. AFter I completed that work it was requested that this feature be generalized so that any datagram oriented socket could make use of this option. As such I've created this patch, It creates a new SOL_SOCKET level option called SO_RXQ_OVFL, which when enabled exports a SOL_SOCKET level cmsg that reports the nubmer of times the sk_receive_queue overflowed between any two given frames. It also augments the AF_PACKET protocol to take advantage of this new feature (as it previously did not touch sk->sk_drops, which this patch uses to record the overflow count). Tested successfully by me. Notes: 1) Unlike my previous patch, this patch simply records the sk_drops value, which is not a number of drops between packets, but rather a total number of drops. Deltas must be computed in user space. 2) While this patch currently works with datagram oriented protocols, it will also be accepted by non-datagram oriented protocols. I'm not sure if thats agreeable to everyone, but my argument in favor of doing so is that, for those protocols which aren't applicable to this option, sk_drops will always be zero, and reporting no drops on a receive queue that isn't used for those non-participating protocols seems reasonable to me. This also saves us having to code in a per-protocol opt in mechanism. 3) This applies cleanly to net-next assuming that commit 977750076d98c7ff6cbda51858bb5a5894a9d9ab (my af packet cmsg patch) is reverted Signed-off-by: Neil Horman <nhorman@tuxdriver.com> Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <eric.dumazet@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2009-09-24cpumask: arch_send_call_function_ipi_mask: m32rRusty Russell1-1/+2
We're weaning the core code off handing cpumask's around on-stack. This introduces arch_send_call_function_ipi_mask(), and by defining it, the old arch_send_call_function_ipi is defined by the core code. We also take the chance to wean the implementations off the obsolescent for_each_cpu_mask(): making send_ipi_mask take the pointer seemed the most natural way to ensure all implementations used for_each_cpu. 2009-09-22mm: add MAP_HUGETLB for mmaping pseudo-anonymous huge page regionsArnd Bergmann1-0/+2
Add a flag for mmap that will be used to request a huge page region that will look like anonymous memory to user space. This is accomplished by using a file on the internal vfsmount. MAP_HUGETLB is a modifier of MAP_ANONYMOUS and so must be specified with it. The region will behave the same as a MAP_ANONYMOUS region using small pages. The patch also adds the MAP_STACK flag, which was previously defined only on some architectures but not on others. Since MAP_STACK is meant to be a hint only, architectures can define it without assigning a specific meaning to it. I am not quite sure why we have that-many copies of socket.h, and why the values are not the same on all arches either, but for where hex numbers dominate, I use 0x1029 for SO_PROTOCOL as that seems to be the next free unused number across a bunch of operating systems, or so Google results make me want to believe. 2009-07-27mm: Pass virtual address to [__]p{te,ud,md}_free_tlb()Benjamin Herrenschmidt1-2/+2
mm: Pass virtual address to [__]p{te,ud,md}_free_tlb() Upcoming paches to support the new 64-bit "BookE" powerpc architecture will need to have the virtual address corresponding to PTE page when freeing it, due to the way the HW table walker works. Basically, the TLB can be loaded with "large" pages that cover the whole virtual space (well, sort-of, half of it actually) represented by a PTE page, and which contain an "indirect" bit indicating that this TLB entry RPN points to an array of PTEs from which the TLB can then create direct entries. Thus, in order to invalidate those when PTE pages are deleted, we need the virtual address to pass to tlbilx or tlbivax instructions. The old trick of sticking it somewhere in the PTE page struct page sucks too much, the address is almost readily available in all call sites and almost everybody implemets these as macros, so we may as well add the argument everywhere. I added it to the pmd and pud variants for consistency. Would be nice to be able to add custom KM_types per arch, but I don't yet see a nice, clean way to do that. Built on x86_64, i386, mips, sparc, alpha(tonyb), powerpc(tonyb), and 68k(tonyb). Note: avr32 should be able to remove KM_PTE2 (since it's not used) and then just use the generic kmap_types.h file. Get avr32 maintainer approval. 2009-06-11asm-generic: make pci.h usable directlyArnd Bergmann1-2/+0
Some generic code is using the horribly misnamed PCI_DMA_BUS_IS_PHYS from asm/pci.h. This makes sure that an architecture without PCI support does not have to define this itself but can rely on the asm-generic version. 2009-06-11asm-generic: rename page.h and uaccess.hArnd Bergmann1-1/+1
The current asm-generic/page.h only contains the get_order function, and asm-generic/uaccess.h only implements unaligned accesses. This renames the file to getorder.h and uaccess-unaligned.h to make room for new page.h and uaccess.h file that will be usable by all simple (e.g. nommu) architectures. 2009-06-11asm-generic: rename atomic.h to atomic-long.hArnd Bergmann1-1/+1
The existing asm-generic/atomic.h only defines the atomic_long type. This renames it to atomic-long.h so we have a place to add a truly generic atomic.h that can be used on all non-SMP systems. 2009-06-11asm-generic: introduce asm/bitsperlong.hArnd Bergmann1-0/+1
This provides a reliable way for asm-generic/types.h and other files to find out if it is running on a 32 or 64 bit platform. We cannot use CONFIG_64BIT for this in headers that are included from user space because CONFIG symbols are not available there. We also cannot do it inside of asm/types.h because some headers need the word size but cannot include types.h. The solution is to introduce a new header <asm/bitsperlong.h> that defines both __BITS_PER_LONG for user space and BITS_PER_LONG for usage in the kernel. The asm-generic version falls back to 32 bit unless the architecture overrides it, which I did for all 64 bit platforms. 2009-06-11asm-generic: rename termios.h, signal.h and mman.hArnd Bergmann2-2/+2
The existing asm-generic versions are incomplete and included by some architectures. New architectures should be able to use a generic version, so rename the existing files and change all users, which lets us add the new files. 2009-05-29flat: fix data sections alignmentOskar Schirmer1-1/+0
The flat loader uses an architecture's flat_stack_align() to align the stack but assumes word-alignment is enough for the data sections. However, on the Xtensa S6000 we have registers up to 128bit width which can be used from userspace and therefor need userspace stack and data-section alignment of at least this size. This patch drops flat_stack_align() and uses the same alignment that is required for slab caches, ARCH_SLAB_MINALIGN, or wordsize if it's not defined by the architecture. It also fixes m32r which was obviously kaput, aligning an uninitialized stack entry instead of the stack pointer. 2009-05-02m32r: use __stringify() macro in assembler.hHirokazu Takata1-3/+4
Replace #x with __stringify(x). Also, #ifndef __STR is removed and undefine __STR macro at the beginning. The __STR() macro is still remained, because the assembler.h might be included from assembly codes as well as C codes. Signed-off-by: Hirokazu Takata <takata@linux-m32r.org>
