2012-10-13vfs: define struct filename and have getname() return itJeff Layton2-4/+4
getname() is intended to copy pathname strings from userspace into a kernel buffer. The result is just a string in kernel space. It would however be quite helpful to be able to attach some ancillary info to the string. For instance, we could attach some audit-related info to reduce the amount of audit-related processing needed. When auditing is enabled, we could also call getname() on the string more than once and not need to recopy it from userspace. This patchset converts the getname()/putname() interfaces to return a struct instead of a string. For now, the struct just tracks the string in kernel space and the original userland pointer for it. 2012-10-12mips,kgdb: fix recursive page fault with CONFIG_KPROBESJason Wessel1-0/+9
This fault was detected using the kgdb test suite on boot and it crashes recursively due to the fact that CONFIG_KPROBES on mips adds an extra die notifier in the page fault handler. The crash signature looks like this: kgdbts:RUN bad memory access test KGDB: re-enter exception: ALL breakpoints killed Call Trace: [<807b7548>] dump_stack+0x20/0x54 [<807b7548>] dump_stack+0x20/0x54 The fix for now is to have kgdb return immediately if the fault type is DIE_PAGE_FAULT and allow the kprobe code to decide what is supposed to happen. Pull pwm changes from Thierry Reding: "All legacy PWM providers have now been moved to the PWM subsystem. The plan for 3.8 is to adapt all board files to provide a lookup table for PWM devices in order to get rid of the global namespace. Subsequently, users of the legacy pwm_request() and pwm_free() functions can be migrated to the new pwm_get() and pwm_put() functions. Once this has been completed, the legacy API and the compatibility code in the core can be removed. In addition to the above, these changes also add support for configuring the polarity of a PWM signal (currently only supported on ECAP and EHRPWM) and include a much needed rework of the i.MX driver. Managed functions to obtain and release a PWM device (devm_pwm_get() and devm_pwm_put()) have been added and the pwm-backlight driver has been updated to use them. If the PWM subsystem hasn't been enabled, dummy functions are provided that allow the subsystem to safely compile out. Some common checks on input parameters have been moved to the core and removed from the drivers. 2012-10-09readahead: fault retry breaks mmap file read random detectionShaohua Li1-0/+1
.fault now can retry. The retry can break state machine of .fault. In filemap_fault, if page is miss, ra->mmap_miss is increased. In the second try, since the page is in page cache now, ra->mmap_miss is decreased. And these are done in one fault, so we can't detect random mmap file access. Add a new flag to indicate .fault is tried once. In the second try, skip ra->mmap_miss decreasing. The filemap_fault state machine is ok with it. 2012-10-09mm: hugetlb: add arch hook for clearing page flags before entering poolWill Deacon1-0/+4
The core page allocator ensures that page flags are zeroed when freeing pages via free_pages_check. A number of architectures (ARM, PPC, MIPS) rely on this property to treat new pages as dirty with respect to the data cache and perform the appropriate flushing before mapping the pages into userspace. This can lead to cache synchronisation problems when using hugepages, since the allocator keeps its own pool of pages above the usual page allocator and does not reset the page flags when freeing a page into the pool. This patch adds a new architecture hook, arch_clear_hugepage_flags, so that architectures which rely on the page flags being in a particular state for fresh allocations can adjust the flags accordingly when a page is freed into the pool. 2012-10-05compat: move compat_siginfo_t definition to asm/compat.hDenys Vlasenko2-63/+68
This is a preparatory patch for the introduction of NT_SIGINFO elf note. Make the location of compat_siginfo_t uniform across eight architectures which have it. Now it can be pulled in by including asm/compat.h or linux/compat.h. Most of the copies are verbatim. compat_uid[32]_t had to be replaced by __compat_uid[32]_t. compat_uptr_t had to be moved up before compat_siginfo_t in asm/compat.h on a several architectures (tile already had it moved up). compat_sigval_t had to be relocated from linux/compat.h to asm/compat.h. (2) Remove some redundant #includes from the DRM code. (3) Make the kernel build infrastructure handle Kbuild files both in the old places and the new UAPI place that both specify headers to be exported. 2012-10-03kbuild: Fix gcc -x syntaxJean Delvare2-2/+2
The correct syntax for gcc -x is "gcc -x assembler", not "gcc -xassembler". Even though the latter happens to work, the former is what is documented in the manual page and thus what gcc wrappers such as icecream do expect. This isn't a cosmetic change. The missing space prevents icecream from recognizing compilation tasks it can't handle, leading to silent kernel miscompilations. Besides me, credits go to Michael Matz and Dirk Mueller for investigating the miscompilation issue and tracking it down to this incorrect -x parameter syntax. 2012-10-01MIPS: ath79: Fix CPU/DDR frequency calculation for SRIF PLLsGabor Juhos2-28/+104
Besides the CPU and DDR PLLs, the CPU and DDR frequencies can be derived from other PLLs in the SRIF block on the AR934x SoCs. The current code does not checks if the SRIF PLLs are used and this can lead to incorrectly calculated CPU/DDR frequencies. Fix it by calculating the frequencies from SRIF PLLs if those are used on a given board. 2012-10-01MIPS: ath79: use correct fractional dividers for {CPU,DDR}_PLL on AR934xGabor Juhos1-2/+2
The current dividers in the code are wrong and this leads to broken CPU frequency calculation on boards where the fractional part is used. For example, if the SoC is running from a 40MHz reference clock, refdiv=1, nint=14, outdiv=0 and nfrac=31 the real frequency is 579.375MHz but the current code calculates 569.687MHz instead. Because the system time is indirectly related to the CPU frequency the broken computation causes drift in the system time. The correct divider is 2^6 for the CPU PLL and 2^10 for the DDR PLL. Use the correct values to fix the issue. 2012-10-01MIPS: BCM63XX: Properly handle mac address octet overflowJonas Gorski1-7/+9
While calculating the mac address the pointer for the current octet was never reset back to the least significant one after being decremented because of an octet overflow. This resulted in the code continuing to increment at the current octet, potentially generating duplicate or invalid mac addresses. As a second issue the pointer was allowed to advance up to the most significant octet, modifying the OUI, and potentially changing the type of mac address. Rewrite the code so it resets the pointer to the least significant in each outer loop step, and bails out when the least significant octet of the OUI is reached.
