2021-03-23xsysace: Remove SYSACE driverMichal Simek1-1273/+0
Sysace IP is no longer used on Xilinx PowerPC 405/440 and Microblaze systems. The driver is not regularly tested and very likely not working for quite a long time that's why remove it. Signed-off-by: Michal Simek <michal.simek@xilinx.com> Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <axboe@kernel.dk>
2020-10-29xsysace: use platform_get_resource() and platform_get_irq_optional()Andy Shevchenko1-23/+26
Use platform_get_resource() to fetch the memory resource and platform_get_irq_optional() to get optional IRQ instead of open-coded variants. IRQ is not supposed to be changed at runtime, so there is no functional change in ace_fsm_yieldirq(). On the other hand we now take first resources instead of last ones to proceed. I can't imagine how broken should be firmware to have a garbage in the first resource slots. But if it the case, it needs to be documented. 2020-09-10xsysace: simplify media change handlingChristoph Hellwig1-16/+10
Pass a struct ace_device to ace_revalidate_disk, move the media changed check into the one caller that needs it, and give the routine a better name. 2020-09-10xsysace: use bdev_check_media_changeChristoph Hellwig1-2/+2
Switch to use bdev_check_media_change instead of check_disk_change and call ace_revalidate_disk manually. Given that ace_revalidate_disk only deals with media change events, the extra call into ->revalidate_disk from bdev_disk_changed is not required either, so stop wiring up the method. 2019-04-12Revert "block: unexport DISK_EVENT_MEDIA_CHANGE for legacy/fringe drivers"Martin Wilck1-0/+1
This reverts commit 9fd097b14918875bd6f125ed699d7bbbba5893ee. Instead of leaving disk->events completely empty, we now export the supported events again, and tell the block layer not to forward events to user space by not setting DISK_EVENT_FLAG_UEVENT. This allows the block layer to distinguish between devices that for which events should be handled in kernel only, and devices which don't support any meda change events at all. 2019-04-06xsysace: Fix error handling in ace_setupGuenter Roeck1-0/+2
If xace hardware reports a bad version number, the error handling code in ace_setup() calls put_disk(), followed by queue cleanup. However, since the disk data structure has the queue pointer set, put_disk() also cleans and releases the queue. This results in blk_cleanup_queue() accessing an already released data structure, which in turn may result in a crash such as the following. 2017-11-22treewide: setup_timer() -> timer_setup()Kees Cook1-3/+3
This converts all remaining cases of the old setup_timer() API into using timer_setup(), where the callback argument is the structure already holding the struct timer_list. These should have no behavioral changes, since they just change which pointer is passed into the callback with the same available pointers after conversion. It handles the following examples, in addition to some other variations. Casting from unsigned long: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data; ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, ptr); and forced object casts: void my_callback(struct something *ptr) { ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, (unsigned long)ptr); become: void my_callback(struct timer_list *t) { struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer); ... } ... timer_setup(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0); Direct function assignments: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data; ... } ... ptr->my_timer.function = my_callback; have a temporary cast added, along with converting the args: void my_callback(struct timer_list *t) { struct something *ptr = from_timer(ptr, t, my_timer); ... } ... ptr->my_timer.function = (TIMER_FUNC_TYPE)my_callback; And finally, callbacks without a data assignment: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0); have their argument renamed to verify they're unused during conversion: void my_callback(struct timer_list *unused) { ... } ... timer_setup(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, 0); The conversion is done with the following Coccinelle script: spatch --very-quiet --all-includes --include-headers \ -I ./arch/x86/include -I ./arch/x86/include/generated \ -I ./include -I ./arch/x86/include/uapi \ -I ./arch/x86/include/generated/uapi -I ./include/uapi \ -I ./include/generated/uapi --include ./include/linux/kconfig.h \ --dir . \ --cocci-file ~/src/data/timer_setup.cocci @fix_address_of@ expression e; 2017-06-27block: don't set bounce limit in blk_init_queueChristoph Hellwig1-0/+1

2017-06-09block: introduce new block status code typeChristoph Hellwig1-4/+4
Currently we use nornal Linux errno values in the block layer, and while we accept any error a few have overloaded magic meanings. This patch instead introduces a new blk_status_t value that holds block layer specific status codes and explicitly explains their meaning. Helpers to convert from and to the previous special meanings are provided for now, but I suspect we want to get rid of them in the long run - those drivers that have a errno input (e.g. networking) usually get errnos that don't know about the special block layer overloads, and similarly returning them to userspace will usually return somethings that strictly speaking isn't correct for file system operations, but that's left as an exercise for later. For now the set of errors is a very limited set that closely corresponds to the previous overloaded errno values, but there is some low hanging fruite to improve it. blk_status_t (ab)uses the sparse __bitwise annotations to allow for sparse typechecking, so that we can easily catch places passing the wrong values. 2017-02-01block: fold cmd_type into the REQ_OP_ spaceChristoph Hellwig1-1/+1
Instead of keeping two levels of indirection for requests types, fold it all into the operations. The little caveat here is that previously cmd_type only applied to struct request, while the request and bio op fields were set to plain REQ_OP_READ/WRITE even for passthrough operations. Instead this patch adds new REQ_OP_* for SCSI passthrough and driver private requests, althought it has to add two for each so that we can communicate the data in/out nature of the request. 2014-04-16block: remove struct request buffer memberJens Axboe1-2/+2
This was used in the olden days, back when onions were proper yellow. Basically it mapped to the current buffer to be transferred. With highmem being added more than a decade ago, most drivers map pages out of a bio, and rq->buffer isn't pointing at anything valid. Convert old style drivers to just use bio_data(). 2010-08-07block: push down BKL into .open and .releaseArnd Bergmann1-0/+6
The open and release block_device_operations are currently called with the BKL held. In order to change that, we must first make sure that all drivers that currently rely on this have no regressions. This blindly pushes the BKL into all .open and .release operations for all block drivers to prepare for the next step. The drivers can subsequently replace the BKL with their own locks or remove it completely when it can be shown that it is not needed. The functions blkdev_get and blkdev_put are the only remaining users of the big kernel lock in the block layer, besides a few uses in the ioctl code, none of which need to serialize with blkdev_{get,put}. Most of these two functions is also under the protection of bdev->bd_mutex, including the actual calls to ->open and ->release, and the common code does not access any global data structures that need the BKL. 2009-05-11block: implement and enforce request peek/start/fetchTejun Heo1-6/+4
Till now block layer allowed two separate modes of request execution. A request is always acquired from the request queue via elv_next_request(). After that, drivers are free to either dequeue it or process it without dequeueing. Dequeue allows elv_next_request() to return the next request so that multiple requests can be in flight. Executing requests without dequeueing has its merits mostly in allowing drivers for simpler devices which can't do sg to deal with segments only without considering request boundary. However, the benefit this brings is dubious and declining while the cost of the API ambiguity is increasing. Segment based drivers are usually for very old or limited devices and as converting to dequeueing model isn't difficult, it doesn't justify the API overhead it puts on block layer and its more modern users. Previous patches converted all block low level drivers to dequeueing model. This patch completes the API transition by... * renaming elv_next_request() to blk_peek_request() * renaming blkdev_dequeue_request() to blk_start_request() * adding blk_fetch_request() which is combination of peek and start * disallowing completion of queued (not started) requests * applying new API to all LLDs Renamings are for consistency and to break out of tree code so that it's apparent that out of tree drivers need updating. Commit 4aaf2fec718f6fbf38668edf733a0ab09a49cab1 (xsysace: make it 'struct hd_driveid'-free) converted the cf_id member of 'struct ace_device' from a 'struct hd_driveid' to a u16 array. However, references to the base of the structure were still using the '&' operator. When the address was used with the ata_id_u32() macro, the compiler used the size of the entire array instead of sizeof(u16) to calculate the offset from the base address.
