2023-10-17hyperv: avoid dependency on screen_infoArnd Bergmann1-3/+4
The two hyperv framebuffer drivers (hyperv_fb or hyperv_drm_drv) access the global screen_info in order to take over from the sysfb framebuffer, which in turn could be handled by simplefb, simpledrm or efifb. Similarly, the vmbus_drv code marks the original EFI framebuffer as reserved, but this is not required if there is no sysfb. As a preparation for making screen_info itself more local to the sysfb helper code, add a compile-time conditional in all three files that relate to hyperv fb and just skip this code if there is no sysfb that needs to be unregistered. 2023-09-21drm: Call drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at shutdown time for misc driversDouglas Anderson1-0/+6
Based on grepping through the source code these drivers appear to be missing a call to drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at system shutdown time. Among other things, this means that if a panel is in use that it won't be cleanly powered off at system shutdown time. The fact that we should call drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() in the case of OS shutdown/restart comes straight out of the kernel doc "driver instance overview" in drm_drv.c. All of the drivers in this patch were fairly straightforward to fix since they already had a call to drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at remove/unbind time but were just lacking one at system shutdown. The only hitch is that some of these drivers use the component model to register/unregister their DRM devices. The shutdown callback is part of the original device. The typical solution here, based on how other DRM drivers do this, is to keep track of whether the device is bound based on drvdata. In most cases the drvdata is the drm_device, so we can just make sure it is NULL when the device is not bound. In some drivers, this required minor code changes. To make things simpler, drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() has been modified to consider a NULL drm_device as a noop in the patch ("drm/atomic-helper: drm_atomic_helper_shutdown(NULL) should be a noop"). 2022-09-29drm/hyperv: Add ratelimit on error messageSaurabh Sengar1-1/+1
Due to a full ring buffer, the driver may be unable to send updates to the Hyper-V host. But outputing the error message can make the problem worse because console output is also typically written to the frame buffer. Rate limiting the error message, also output the error code for additional diagnosability. 2022-09-23drm/hyperv: Don't overwrite dirt_needed value set by hostSaurabh Sengar1-2/+0
Existing code is causing a race condition where dirt_needed value is already set by the host and gets overwritten with default value. Remove this default setting of dirt_needed, to avoid overwriting the value received in the channel callback set by vmbus_open. Removing this setting also means the default value for dirt_needed is changed to false as it's allocated by kzalloc which is similar to legacy hyperv_fb driver. 2022-05-31drm/hyperv : Removing the restruction of VRAM allocation with PCI bar sizeSaurabh Sengar1-71/+3
There were two different approaches getting used in this driver to allocate vram: 1. VRAM allocation from PCI region for Gen1 2. VRAM alloaction from MMIO region for Gen2 First approach limilts the vram to PCI BAR size, which is 64 MB in most legacy systems. This limits the maximum resolution to be restricted to 64 MB size, and with recent conclusion on fbdev issue its concluded to have similar allocation strategy for both Gen1 and Gen2. This patch unifies the Gen1 and Gen2 vram allocation strategy. 2022-05-11drm/hyperv: Remove support for Hyper-V 2008 and 2008R2/Win7Michael Kelley1-16/+7
The DRM Hyper-V driver has special case code for running on the first released versions of Hyper-V: 2008 and 2008 R2/Windows 7. These versions are now out of support (except for extended security updates) and lack support for performance features that are needed for effective production usage of Linux guests. The negotiation of the VMbus protocol versions required by these old Hyper-V versions has been removed from the VMbus driver. So now remove the handling of these VMbus protocol versions from the DRM Hyper-V driver. 2022-02-08dma-buf-map: Rename to iosys-mapLucas De Marchi1-2/+3
Rename struct dma_buf_map to struct iosys_map and corresponding APIs. Over time dma-buf-map grew up to more functionality than the one used by dma-buf: in fact it's just a shim layer to abstract system memory, that can be accessed via regular load and store, from IO memory that needs to be acessed via arch helpers. The idea is to extend this API so it can fulfill other needs, internal to a single driver. Example: in the i915 driver it's desired to share the implementation for integrated graphics, which uses mostly system memory, with discrete graphics, which may need to access IO memory. According to disable Documentation/admin-guide/kernel-parameters.txt, this parameter can be used to disable kernel modesetting. DRM drivers will not perform display-mode changes or accelerated rendering and only the system framebuffer will be available if it was set-up. But only a few DRM drivers currently check for nomodeset, make this driver to also support the command line parameter. Hyper-V supports a hardware cursor feature. It is not used by Linux VM, but the Hyper-V host still draws a point as an extra mouse pointer, which is unwanted, especially when Xorg is running. The hyperv_fb driver uses synthvid_send_ptr() to hide the unwanted pointer. When the hyperv_drm driver was developed, the function synthvid_send_ptr() was not copied from the hyperv_fb driver. Fix the issue by adding the function into hyperv_drm.
