2023-06-01drm/i2c: tda998x: Replace all non-returning strlcpy with strscpyAzeem Shaikh1-1/+1
strlcpy() reads the entire source buffer first. This read may exceed the destination size limit. This is both inefficient and can lead to linear read overflows if a source string is not NUL-terminated [1]. In an effort to remove strlcpy() completely [2], replace strlcpy() here with strscpy(). No return values were used, so direct replacement is safe. 2022-11-24drm/connector: Rename drm_mode_create_tv_propertiesMaxime Ripard1-1/+1
drm_mode_create_tv_properties(), among other things, will create the "mode" property that stores the analog TV mode that connector is supposed to output. However, that property is getting deprecated, so let's rename that function to mention it's deprecated. We'll introduce a new variant of that function creating the property superseeding it in a later patch. The current tv_mode has driver-specific values that don't allow to easily share code using it, either at the userspace or kernel level. Since we're going to introduce a new, generic, property that fit the same purpose, let's rename this one to legacy_tv_mode to make it obvious we should move away from it. 2022-08-16i2c: Make remove callback return voidUwe Kleine-König3-8/+3
The value returned by an i2c driver's remove function is mostly ignored. (Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the error is ignored.) So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly. There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to return 0 before. As part of retiring the old defines used to specify DAI formats update the hdmi_codec driver to use the modern names, including the variables in the struct hdmi_codec_daifmt exported to the DRM drivers. In updating this I did note that the only use of this information in DRM drivers is to reject clock provider settings, thinking about what this hardware is doing I rather suspect that there might not be any hardware out there which needs the configuration so it may be worth considering just having hdmi-codec support only clock consumer. When validating a mode, bridges may need to do so in the context of a display, as specified by drm_display_info. An example is the meson dw-hdmi bridge that needs to consider the YUV 4:2:0 output format to perform clock calculations. Bridges that need the display info currently retrieve it from the drm_connector created by the bridge. This gets in the way of moving connector creation out of bridge drivers. 2020-02-26drm/bridge: Extend bridge API to disable connector creationLaurent Pinchart1-2/+8
Most bridge drivers create a DRM connector to model the connector at the output of the bridge. This model is historical and has worked pretty well so far, but causes several issues: - It prevents supporting more complex display pipelines where DRM connector operations are split over multiple components. For instance a pipeline with a bridge connected to the DDC signals to read EDID data, and another one connected to the HPD signal to detect connection and disconnection, will not be possible to support through this model. - It requires every bridge driver to implement similar connector handling code, resulting in code duplication. - It assumes that a bridge will either be wired to a connector or to another bridge, but doesn't support bridges that can be used in both positions very well (although there is some ad-hoc support for this in the analogix_dp bridge driver). In order to solve these issues, ownership of the connector should be moved to the display controller driver (where it can be implemented using helpers provided by the core). Extend the bridge API to allow disabling connector creation in bridge drivers as a first step towards the new model. The new flags argument to the bridge .attach() operation allows instructing the bridge driver to skip creating a connector. Unconditionally set the new flags argument to 0 for now to keep the existing behaviour, and modify all existing bridge drivers to return an error when connector creation is not requested as they don't support this feature yet. It is possible for one HDMI connector to have multiple CEC adapters. The typical real-world scenario is that where one adapter is used when the device is in standby, and one that's better/smarter when the device is powered up. The cec-notifier changes were made with that in mind, but I missed that in order to support this you need to tell cec_notifier_cec_adap_unregister() which adapter you are unregistering from the notifier. Add this additional argument. It is currently unused, but once all drivers use this, the CEC core will be adapted for these use-cases. We are about to add a drm_bridge_state that inherits from drm_private_state which is defined in drm_atomic.h. Problem is, drm_atomic.h includes drm_crtc.h which in turn includes drm_bridge.h, leading to "drm_private_state has incomplete type" error. CEA-861 says: "A Source shall not send a non-zero Q value that does not correspond to the default RGB Quantization Range for the transmitted Picture unless the Sink indicates support for the Q bit in a Video Capabilities Data Block." Make TDA998x compliant by using the helper to set the quantisation range in the infoframe, and using the TDA998x's colour scaling to appropriately adjust the RGB values sent to the monitor. This ensures that monitors that do not support the Q bit are sent RGB values that are within the expected range. Monitors with support for the Q bit will be sent full-range RGB. TDA998x has no support for pixel repeated modes, and the code notes this as a "TODO" item. The implementation appears to be relatively simple, so lets add it. We need to calculate the serializer clock divisor based on the TMDS clock rate, set the repeat control, and set the serializer pixel repeat count. tda998x_configure_audio() is called via some paths where an error return is meaningless, and as a result of moving the audio routing code, this function no longer returns any errors, so let's make it void. We can also make tda998x_write_aif() return void as well. tda998x_configure_audio() also only ever needs to write the current audio settings, so simplify the code in tda998x_audio_hw_params() so that can happen.
