2024-05-02Revert "drm: Make drivers depends on DRM_DW_HDMI"Geert Uytterhoeven1-1/+1
This reverts commit c0e0f139354c01e0213204e4a96e7076e5a3e396, as helper code should always be selected by the driver that needs it, for the convenience of the final user configuring a kernel. The user who configures a kernel should not need to know which helpers are needed for the driver he is interested in. Making a driver depend on helper code means that the user needs to know which helpers to enable first, which is very user-unfriendly. DRM_DW_HDMI has a number of dependencies that might not be enabled. However, drivers were used to selecting it while not enforcing the DRM_DW_HDMI dependencies. Commit 358e76fd613a ("drm/sun4i: hdmi: Consolidate atomic_check and mode_valid") changed the clock rate from an unsigned long to an unsigned long long resulting in a a 64-bit division that might not be supported on all platforms. The resulted in compilation being broken at least for m68k, xtensa and some arm configurations, at least. Commit 358e76fd613a ("drm/sun4i: hdmi: Consolidate atomic_check and mode_valid") added a call to drm_atomic_get_new_connector_state() but didn't include drm_atomic.h which defines it. On some configuration, this leads to a build failure, presumably because in the common case the header gets included by an intermediate header but it isn't always the case. Let's add a proper include. 2024-01-18drm: remove I2C_CLASS_DDC supportHeiner Kallweit1-1/+0
After removal of the legacy EEPROM driver and I2C_CLASS_DDC support in olpc_dcon there's no i2c client driver left supporting I2C_CLASS_DDC. Class-based device auto-detection is a legacy mechanism and shouldn't be used in new code. So we can remove this class completely now. 2023-09-21drm: Call drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at shutdown time for misc driversDouglas Anderson1-0/+6
Based on grepping through the source code these drivers appear to be missing a call to drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at system shutdown time. Among other things, this means that if a panel is in use that it won't be cleanly powered off at system shutdown time. The fact that we should call drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() in the case of OS shutdown/restart comes straight out of the kernel doc "driver instance overview" in drm_drv.c. All of the drivers in this patch were fairly straightforward to fix since they already had a call to drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at remove/unbind time but were just lacking one at system shutdown. The only hitch is that some of these drivers use the component model to register/unregister their DRM devices. The shutdown callback is part of the original device. The typical solution here, based on how other DRM drivers do this, is to keep track of whether the device is bound based on drvdata. In most cases the drvdata is the drm_device, so we can just make sure it is NULL when the device is not bound. In some drivers, this required minor code changes. To make things simpler, drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() has been modified to consider a NULL drm_device as a noop in the patch ("drm/atomic-helper: drm_atomic_helper_shutdown(NULL) should be a noop"). 2023-08-22clk: Annotate struct clk_hw_onecell_data with __counted_byKees Cook1-2/+1
Prepare for the coming implementation by GCC and Clang of the __counted_by attribute. Flexible array members annotated with __counted_by can have their accesses bounds-checked at run-time checking via CONFIG_UBSAN_BOUNDS (for array indexing) and CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE (for strcpy/memcpy-family functions). As found with Coccinelle[1], add __counted_by for struct clk_hw_onecell_data. Additionally, since the element count member must be set before accessing the annotated flexible array member, move its initialization earlier. The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. 2023-06-08drm/sun4i: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König11-44/+22
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert the sun4i drm drivers from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. strlcpy() reads the entire source buffer first. This read may exceed the destination size limit. This is both inefficient and can lead to linear read overflows if a source string is not NUL-terminated [1]. In an effort to remove strlcpy() completely [2], replace strlcpy() here with strscpy(). No return values were used, so direct replacement is safe. Smatch reports: drivers/gpu/drm/sun4i/sun4i_tcon.c:805 sun4i_tcon_init_clocks() warn: 'tcon->clk' from clk_prepare_enable() not released on lines: 792,801. In the function sun4i_tcon_init_clocks(), tcon->clk and tcon->sclk0 are not disabled in the error handling, which affects the release of these variable. Although sun4i_tcon_bind(), which calls sun4i_tcon_init_clocks(), use sun4i_tcon_free_clocks to disable the variables mentioned, but the error handling branch of sun4i_tcon_init_clocks() ignores the required disable process. To fix this issue, use the devm_clk_get_enabled to automatically balance enable and disabled calls. As original implementation use sun4i_tcon_free_clocks() to disable clk explicitly, we delete the related calls and error handling that are no longer needed. The other error labels in sun4i_tv_bind() are named after the task they perform (err_disable_clk to call clk_disable_unprepare for example). 2022-08-15drm/sun4i: dsi: Prevent underflow when computing packet sizesSamuel Holland1-5/+5
Currently, the packet overhead is subtracted using unsigned arithmetic. With a short sync pulse, this could underflow and wrap around to near the maximal u16 value. Fix this by using signed subtraction. The call to max() will correctly handle any negative numbers that are produced. Apply the same fix to the other timings, even though those subtractions are less likely to underflow. The field paddr of struct drm_gem_dma_object holds a DMA address, which might actually be a physical address. However, depending on the platform, it can also be a bus address or a virtual address managed by an IOMMU. Hence, rename the field to dma_addr, which is more applicable. Rename "GEM CMA" helpers to "GEM DMA" helpers - considering the hierarchy of APIs (mm/cma -> dma -> gem dma) calling them "GEM DMA" seems to be more applicable. Besides that, commit e57924d4ae80 ("drm/doc: Task to rename CMA helpers") requests to rename the CMA helpers and implies that people seem to be confused about the naming. Also drivers/gpu/drm/Makefile was fixed up manually after renaming drm_gem_cma_helper.c to drm_gem_dma_helper.c. This patch is compile-time tested building a x86_64 kernel with `make allyesconfig && make drivers/gpu/drm`.
