2018-01-15i2c: mpc: always determine I2C clock prescaler at runtimeArseny Solokha1-22/+15
Remove the facility for setting the prescaler value at compile time entirely. It was only used for two SoCs, duplicating the actual value for one of them and setting sometimes bogus value for another. Make all MPC8xxx SoCs obtain their actual I2C clock prescaler from a single place in the code. Changes from v2: - left Device Tree compatibles in place Signed-off-by: Arseny Solokha <asolokha@kb.kras.ru> Signed-off-by: Wolfram Sang <wsa@the-dreams.de>
2018-01-15i2c: mpc: fix PORDEVSR2 mask for MPC8533/44Arseny Solokha1-2/+6
According to the reference manuals for the corresponding SoCs, SEC frequency ratio configuration is indicated by bit 26 of the POR Device Status Register 2. Consequently, SEC_CFG bit should be tested by mask 0x20, not 0x80. Testing the wrong bit leads to selection of wrong I2C clock prescaler on those SoCs. 2018-01-15i2c: mpc: unify obtaining the MPC8533/44 I2C clock prescaler w/ MPC8xxxArseny Solokha1-3/+9
Commit 8ce795cb0c6b ("i2c: mpc: assign the correct prescaler from SVR") introduced the common helper function for obtaining the actual clock prescaler value for MPC85xx. However, getting the prescaler for MPC8544 which depends on the SEC frequency ratio on this platform, has been always performed separately based on the corresponding Device Tree configuration. Move special handling of MPC8544 into that common helper. Make it dependent on the SoC version and not on Device Tree compatible node, as is the case with all other SoCs. Handle MPC8533 the same way which is similar to MPC8544 in this regard, according to AN2919 "Determining the I2C Frequency Divider Ratio for SCL". 2018-01-15i2c: mpc: get MPC8xxx I2C clock prescaler before using it in calculationsArseny Solokha1-6/+6
Obtaining the actual I2C clock prescaler value in mpc_i2c_setup_8xxx() only happens when the clock parameter is set to something other than MPC_I2C_CLOCK_LEGACY. When the clock parameter is exactly MPC_I2C_CLOCK_LEGACY, the prescaler parameter is used in arithmetic division as provided by the caller, resulting in a division by zero for the majority of processors supported by the module. Avoid division by zero by obtaining the actual I2C clock prescaler in mpc_i2c_setup_8xxx() unconditionally regardless of the passed clock value. 2015-03-15i2c: mpc: assign the correct prescaler from SVRValentin Longchamp1-1/+29
For the 85xx platforms, the source clock for the i2c-mpc can change from one SoC to another. This is documented in the AN2919 "Determining the I2C Frequency Divider Ratio for SCL" by Freescale. Not taking this into account can lead to the output SCL frequency to by off by an offset. It was observed on the P2041 from the QorIQ family. This patch fixes this problem by setting the prescaler value to the appropriate value when required. The SoCs that required a different prescaler than 1 are identified by reading out the SVR as discussed in http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.drivers.devicetree/94247/focus=20556 Signed-off-by: Valentin Longchamp <valentin.longchamp@keymile.com> Signed-off-by: Wolfram Sang <wsa@the-dreams.de>

2014-06-03i2c: mpc: insert DR read in i2c_fixup()Valentin Longchamp1-1/+1
The mpc_i2c_fixup function is called when the bus is not released by a slave. The function generates 9 pulses that should lead the slave to release the bus. The sequence that generates the pulses disables/enables the I2C module that controls the blocked bus. We have found out on the P2041 SoC that this could cause the CPU to hang (for a short delay). To avoid this, this patch introduces a read to the I2CDR register between the re-enablement of the I2C module in master mode and its returning to the slave mode instead of the delay (the final delay, between the pulses is kept), as proposed in procedure from the P2041 reference manual (16.6.2.3), and the other manuals from the mpc83xx and mpc85xx families. 2013-08-07i2c: mpc: Define unique I2C adapter namesGuenter Roeck1-1/+4
The I2C adapters on Freescale MPC107/824x/85xx/512x/52xx/83xx/86xx all have the same name "MPC adapter". Since I2C adapter numbers can change across reboots and even after loading/unloading an I2C bus master driver, adapter names have to be used to identify adapters and thus should be unique and well defined. Since this is not the case with this driver, it is difficult if not impossible to identify a specific adapter from user space on affected platforms. To remedy the problem, use the adapter memory address as part of the adapter name. With this patch, adapter names are: On P2020: MPC adapter at 0xfff703000 MPC adapter at 0xfff703100 On P5040: MPC adapter at 0xffe118000 MPC adapter at 0xffe118100 MPC adapter at 0xffe119000 MPC adapter at 0xffe119100 Signed-off-by: Guenter Roeck <linux@roeck-us.net> Acked-by: Jean Delvare <khali@linux-fr.org> Signed-off-by: Wolfram Sang <wsa@the-dreams.de>

2013-02-22i2c: Remove unneeded xxx_set_drvdata(..., NULL) callsDoug Anderson1-2/+0
There is simply no reason to be manually setting the private driver data to NULL in the remove/fail to probe cases. This is just extra cruft code that can be removed. A few notes: * Nothing relies on drvdata being set to NULL. * The __device_release_driver() function eventually calls dev_set_drvdata(dev, NULL) anyway, so there's no need to do it twice. * I verified that there were no cases where xxx_get_drvdata() was being called in these drivers and checking for / relying on the NULL return value. This could be cleaned up kernel-wide but for now just take the baby step and remove from the i2c subsystem. But even if there are users, there is no platform_data or module parameter which would need to be converted. It is just another driver doing I2C transfers, just way better. 2011-05-18drivercore: revert addition of of_match to struct deviceGrant Likely1-3/+6
Commit b826291c, "drivercore/dt: add a match table pointer to struct device" added an of_match pointer to struct device to cache the of_match_table entry discovered at driver match time. This was unsafe because matching is not an atomic operation with probing a driver. If two or more drivers are attempted to be matched to a driver at the same time, then the cached matching entry pointer could get overwritten. This patch reverts the of_match cache pointer and reworks all users to call of_match_device() directly instead. Signed-off-by: Grant Likely <grant.likely@secretlab.ca>

2010-09-30of/i2c: Fix module load order issue caused by of_i2c.cGrant Likely1-0/+1
Commit 959e85f7, "i2c: add OF-style registration and binding" caused a module dependency loop where of_i2c.c calls functions in i2c-core, and i2c-core calls of_i2c_register_devices() in of_i2c. This means that when i2c support is built as a module when CONFIG_OF is set, then neither i2c_core nor of_i2c are able to be loaded. This patch fixes the problem by moving the of_i2c_register_devices() calls back into the device drivers. Device drivers already specifically request the core code to parse the device tree for devices anyway by setting the of_node pointer, so it isn't a big deal to also call the registration function. The drivers just become slightly more verbose. Signed-off-by: Grant Likely <grant.likely@secretlab.ca> Signed-off-by: Jean Delvare <khali@linux-fr.org>

2010-08-02powerpc/5200/i2c: improve i2c bus error recoveryAlbrecht Dreß1-22/+47
This patch improves the recovery of the MPC's I2C bus from errors like bus hangs resulting in timeouts: 1. make the bus timeout configurable, as it depends on the bus clock and the attached slave chip(s); default is still 1 second; 2. detect any of the cases indicated by the CF, BB and RXAK MSR flags if a timeout occurs, and add a missing (required) MAL reset; 3. use a more reliable method to fixup the bus if a hang has been detected. The sequence is sent 9 times which seems to be necessary if a slave "misses" more than one clock cycle. For 400 kHz bus speed, the fixup is also ~70us (81us vs. 150us) faster. Tested on a custom Lite5200b derived board, with a Dallas RTC, AD sensors and NXP IO expander chips attached to the i2c. Changes vs. v1: - use improved bus fixup sequence for all chips (not only the 5200) - calculate real clock from defaults if no clock is given in the device tree - better description (I hope) of the changes. I didn't split the changes in this file into three parts as recommended by Grant, as they actually belong together (i.e. they address one single problem, just in three places of one single source file). 2010-05-22of: Remove duplicate fields from of_platform_driverGrant Likely1-4/+4
.name, .match_table and .owner are duplicated in both of_platform_driver and device_driver. This patch is a removes the extra copies from struct of_platform_driver and converts all users to the device_driver members. This patch is a pretty mechanical change. The usage model doesn't change and if any drivers have been missed, or if anything has been fixed up incorrectly, then it will fail with a compile time error, and the fixup will be trivial. This patch looks big and scary because it touches so many files, but it should be pretty safe. Drop NO_IRQ as 0 is the preferred way to describe 'no irq' (http://lkml.org/lkml/2005/11/21/221). This change is safe, as the driver is only used on powerpc, where NO_IRQ is 0 anyhow. 2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo1-0/+1
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. 2010-03-08i2c-mpc: add support for the MPC512x processors from FreescaleWolfgang Grandegger1-18/+75
As I2C interrupts must be enabled for the MPC512x by the setup function as well, "fsl,preserve-clocking" is handled in a slighly different way. Also, the old settings are now reported calling dev_dbg(). For the MPC512x the clock setup function of the MPC52xx can be re-used. Furthermore, the Kconfig help has been updated and corrected. 2009-11-03i2c-mpc: Do not generate STOP after read.Joakim Tjernlund1-8/+2
The driver always ends a read with a STOP condition which breaks subsequent I2C reads/writes in the same transaction as these expect to do a repeated START(ReSTART). This will also help I2C multimaster as the bus will not be released after the first read, but when the whole transaction ends.
