In the file mc-device.c, the function media_device_register_entity_notify() does not need to have the __must_check attribute since it returns only a value of 0. 2022-11-25media: vb2/au0828: move the v4l_vb2q_enable_media_source to the au0828 driverHans Verkuil2-0/+3
With the new prepare_streaming op it is possible to move the ugly v4l_vb2q_enable_media_source() call in vb2_core_streamon to the driver. It was called incorrectly in vb2 as well: it was only called if sufficient buffers were queued at STREAMON time, but not if more buffers were queued later. This was not an issue with the au0828 driver since it never set min_buffers_needed. Signed-off-by: Hans Verkuil <hverkuil-cisco@xs4all.nl> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@kernel.org>

2022-08-29media: avoid use of 'videobuf'Hans Verkuil1-2/+2
The term 'videobuf' typically refers to the old videobuf version 1 framework. Avoid using this word in drivers that are converted to vb2. Signed-off-by: Hans Verkuil <hverkuil-cisco@xs4all.nl> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@kernel.org>
2022-03-18media: Kconfig: cleanup VIDEO_DEV dependenciesMauro Carvalho Chehab1-3/+3
media Kconfig has two entries associated to V4L API: VIDEO_DEV and VIDEO_V4L2. On Kernel 2.6.x, there were two V4L APIs, each one with its own flag. VIDEO_DEV were meant to: 1) enable Video4Linux and make its Kconfig options to appear; 2) it makes the Kernel build the V4L core. while VIDEO_V4L2 where used to distinguish between drivers that implement the newer API and drivers that implemented the former one. With time, such meaning changed, specially after the removal of all V4L version 1 drivers. At the current implementation, VIDEO_DEV only does (1): it enables the media options related to V4L, that now has: menu "Video4Linux options" visible if VIDEO_DEV source "drivers/media/v4l2-core/Kconfig" endmenu but it doesn't affect anymore the V4L core drivers. The rationale is that the V4L2 core has a "soft" dependency at the I2C bus, and now requires to select a number of other Kconfig options: config VIDEO_V4L2 tristate depends on (I2C || I2C=n) && VIDEO_DEV select RATIONAL select VIDEOBUF2_V4L2 if VIDEOBUF2_CORE default (I2C || I2C=n) && VIDEO_DEV In the past, merging them would be tricky, but it seems that it is now possible to merge those symbols, in order to simplify V4L dependencies. Let's keep VIDEO_DEV, as this one is used on some make *defconfig configurations. 2020-11-16media: au0828: Consolidate dmesg outputThomas Gleixner1-3/+2
The memory allocations in au0828_init_isoc() happen all in task context with GFP_KERNEL. Therefore a printk() trying to deduce whether this is called from task or interrupt context is pretty useless. 2020-09-03media: rc: harmonize infrared durations to microsecondsSean Young1-4/+4
rc-core kapi uses nanoseconds for infrared durations for receiving, and microseconds for sending. The uapi already uses microseconds for both, so this patch does not change the uapi. Infrared durations do not need nanosecond resolution. IR protocols do not have durations shorter than about 100 microseconds. Some IR hardware offers 250 microseconds resolution, which is sufficient for most protocols. Better hardware has 50 microsecond resolution and is enough for every protocol I am aware off. Unify on microseconds everywhere. This simplifies the code since less conversion between microseconds and nanoseconds needs to be done. 2019-04-22media: au0828: fix enable and disable source audio and video inconsistenciesShuah Khan2-39/+149
Enable and disable source interfaces aren't consistent in enforcing how video and audio share the tuner resource. Fix these issues to enforce the following rules and allow sharing between audio and video applications. - When DVB is streaming, audio/video/vbi/s-video/composite should find the resource busy. DVB holds the tuner in exclusive mode. - When video/VBI is streaming, audio can share the tuner and vice versa. - v4l2 allows multiple applications to open video device. - Video applications call enable source multiple times during their run-time. Resource should stay locked until the last application releases it. - A shared resource should stay in shared state and locked when it is in use by audio and video. More than one video application is allowed to use the tuner as long as video streaming protocol allows such usage. Resource is released when the last video/audio application releases it. - S-Video and Composite hold the resource in exclusive mode. 2019-04-22media: change au0828 to use Media Device Allocator APIShuah Khan3-8/+8
Media Device Allocator API to allows multiple drivers share a media device. This API solves a very common use-case for media devices where one physical device (an USB stick) provides both audio and video. When such media device exposes a standard USB Audio class, a proprietary Video class, two or more independent drivers will share a single physical USB bridge. In such cases, it is necessary to coordinate access to the shared resource. Using this API, drivers can allocate a media device with the shared struct device as the key. Once the media device is allocated by a driver, other drivers can get a reference to it. The media device is released when all the references are released. Change au0828 to use Media Device Allocator API to allocate media device with the parent usb struct device as the key, so it can be shared with the snd_usb_audio driver. 2018-06-13treewide: kzalloc() -> kcalloc()Kees Cook1-3/+3
The kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kcalloc(). This patch replaces cases of: kzalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kcalloc(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kzalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kzalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kzalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. 2018-03-21media: add tuner standby op, use where neededHans Verkuil1-2/+2
The v4l2_subdev core s_power op was used for two different things: power on/off sensors or video decoders/encoders and to put a tuner in standby (and only the tuner!). There is no 'tuner wakeup' op, that's done automatically when the tuner is accessed. The danger with calling (s_power, 0) to put a tuner into standby is that it is usually broadcast for all subdevs. So a video receiver subdev that supports s_power will also be powered off, and since there is no corresponding (s_power, 1) they will never be powered on again. In addition, this is specifically meant for tuners only since they draw the most current. This patch adds a new tuner op called 'standby' and replaces all calls to (core, s_power, 0) by (tuner, standby). This prevents confusion between the two uses of s_power. Note that there is no overlap: bridge drivers either just want to put the tuner into standby, or they deal with powering on/off sensors. Never both. This also makes it easier to replace s_power for the remaining bridge drivers with some PM code later. Whether we want something cleaner for tuners in the future is a separate topic. There is a lot of legacy code surrounding tuners, and I am very hesitant about making changes there.
