The network device operation for reading statistics is only called
in one place, and it ignores the return value. Having a structure
return value is potentially confusing because some future driver could
incorrectly assume that the return value was used.
Fix all drivers with ndo_get_stats64 to have a void function.

barrier() is a big hammer compared to READ_ONCE(),
and requires comments explaining what is protected.
READ_ONCE() is more precise and compiler should generate
better overall code.

In-flight DMA from 1st kernel could continue going in kdump kernel.
New io-page table has been created before bnx2 does reset at open stage.
We have to wait for the in-flight DMA to complete to avoid it look up
into the newly created io-page table at probe stage.

This reverts commit 3e1be7ad2d38c6bd6aeef96df9bd0a7822f4e51c.
When people build bnx2 driver into kernel, it will fail to detect
and load firmware because firmware is contained in initramfs and
initramfs has not been uncompressed yet during do_initcalls. So
revert commit 3e1be7a and work out a new way in the later patch.

Functions bnx2_reg_rd_ind(), bnx2_reg_wr_ind() and bnx2_ctx_wr()
can be called with IRQs disabled when netconsole is enabled. So they
should use spin_{,un}lock_irq{save,restore} instead of _bh variants.

When system enters into kdump kernel because of kernel panic, it won't
shutdown devices. On-flight DMA will continue transferring data until
device driver initializes. All devices are supposed to reset during
driver initialization. And this property is used to fix the kdump
failure in system with intel iommu. Other systems with hardware iommu
should be similar. Please check commit 091d42e ("iommu/vt-d: Copy
translation tables from old kernel") and those commits around.
But bnx2 driver doesn't reset device during driver initialization. The
device resetting is deferred to net device up stage. This will cause
hardware iommu handling failure on bnx2 device. And its resetting relies
on firmware. So in this patch move the firmware requesting code to earlier
bnx2_init_one(), then next call bnx2_reset_chip to reset device.

The IS_ENABLED() macro checks if a Kconfig symbol has been enabled either
built-in or as a module, use that macro instead of open coding the same.
Using the macro makes the code more readable by helping abstract away some
of the Kconfig built-in and module enable details.

we have two processes to do:
P1#: ifconfig eth0 down; which will call bnx2_close, then will
, and set Null to stats_blk
P2#: ifconfig eth0; which will call bnx2_get_stats64, it will
use stats_blk.
In one case:
--P1#-- --P2#--
stats_blk(no null)
bnx2_free_mem
->bp->stats_blk = NULL
GET_64BIT_NET_STATS
then it will cause 'NULL Pointer' Problem.
it is as well with 'ethtool -S ethx'.
Allocate the statistics block at probe time so that this problem is
impossible

The bnx2 driver uses .ndo_fix_features to force enable of Rx VLAN tag
stripping when the card cannot disable it. The driver should remove
NETIF_F_HW_VLAN_CTAG_RX flag from hw_features instead so it is fixed
for the ethtool.

This driver, similar to tg3, has a check that will
cause full sized 802.1ad frames to be dropped. The
frame will be larger then the standard mtu due to the
presense of vlan header that has not been stripped.
The driver should not drop this frame and should process
it just like it does for 802.1q.

We should prefer `struct pci_device_id` over `DEFINE_PCI_DEVICE_TABLE` to
meet kernel coding style guidelines. This issue was reported by checkpatch.

Processing any incoming packets with a with a napi budget of 0
is incorrect driver behavior.
This matters as netpoll will shortly call drivers with a budget of 0
to avoid receive packet processing happening in hard irq context.

The pci shutdown handler added in:
bnx2: Add pci shutdown handler
commit 25bfb1dd4ba3b2d9a49ce9d9b0cd7be1840e15ed
created a shutdown down sequence without chip reset if the device was
never brought up. This can cause the firmware to shutdown the PHY
prematurely and cause MMIO read cycles to be unresponsive. On some
systems, it may generate NMI in the bnx2's pci shutdown handler.
The fix is to tell the firmware not to shutdown the PHY if there was
no prior chip reset.

As result of deprecation of MSI-X/MSI enablement functions
pci_enable_msix() and pci_enable_msi_block() all drivers
using these two interfaces need to be updated to use the
new pci_enable_msi_range() and pci_enable_msix_range()
interfaces.

None of these files are actually using any __init type directives
and hence don't need to include <linux/init.h>. Most are just a
left over from __devinit and __cpuinit removal, or simply due to
code getting copied from one driver to the next.
This covers everything under drivers/net except for wireless, which
has been submitted separately.

Auto-mdix currently only works if autoneg is enabled. This patch enables
auto-mdix all the time by setting a bit in a PHY register. Define
meaningful constants for this PHY registers.

The current code does not reset the advertisement register when the speed
is forced, leaving the default advertisement value of 10 Mbps. This does
not work with some link partners when the next patch enables auto-mdix.
Set advertisement register to 0 if the speed is forced.

__GFP_ZERO is an uncommon flag and perhaps is better
not used. static inline dma_zalloc_coherent exists
so convert the uses of dma_alloc_coherent with __GFP_ZERO
to the more common kernel style with zalloc.
Remove memset from the static inline dma_zalloc_coherent
and add just one use of __GFP_ZERO instead.
Trivially reduces the size of the existing uses of
dma_zalloc_coherent.
Realign arguments as appropriate.

PCI core will initialize device MSI/MSI-X capability in
pci_msi_init_pci_dev(). So device driver should use
pci_dev->msi_cap/msix_cap to determine whether the device
support MSI/MSI-X instead of using
pci_find_capability(pci_dev, PCI_CAP_ID_MSI/MSIX).
Access to PCIe device config space again will consume more time.

WoL and power state changes will now be done in the shutdown handler.
open/close/ethtool will no longer change the power state. NVRAM
operations can now be permitted whether the device is up or down.

Pci core has been saved pm cap register offset by pdev->pm_cap in pci_pm_init()
in init path. So we can use pdev->pm_cap instead of using
pci_find_capability(pdev, PCI_CAP_ID_PM) for better performance and simplified code.

Add a protocol argument to the VLAN packet tagging functions. In case of HW
tagging, we need that protocol available in the ndo_start_xmit functions,
so it is stored in a new field in the skb. The new field fits into a hole
(on 64 bit) and doesn't increase the sks's size.

Rename the hardware VLAN acceleration features to include "CTAG" to indicate
that they only support CTAGs. Follow up patches will introduce 802.1ad
server provider tagging (STAGs) and require the distinction for hardware not
supporting acclerating both.
