2024-05-02bnxt_en: Optimize recovery path ULP locking in the driverKalesh AP1-2/+5
In the error recovery path (AER, firmware recovery, etc), the driver notifies the RoCE driver via ULP_STOP before the reset and via ULP_START after the reset, all under RTNL_LOCK. The RoCE driver can take a long time if there are a lot of QPs to destroy, so it is not ideal to hold the global RTNL lock. Rely on the new en_dev_lock mutex instead for ULP_STOP and ULP_START. For the most part, we move the ULP_STOP call before we take the RTNL lock and move the ULP_START after RTNL unlock. Note that SRIOV re-enablement must be done after ULP_START or RoCE on the VFs will not resume properly after reset. The one scenario in bnxt_hwrm_if_change() where the RTNL lock is already taken in the .ndo_open() context requires the ULP restart to be deferred to the bnxt_sp_task() workqueue. 2023-12-09bnxt_en: Fix wrong return value check in bnxt_close_nic()Kalesh AP1-9/+2
The wait_event_interruptible_timeout() function returns 0 if the timeout elapsed, -ERESTARTSYS if it was interrupted by a signal, and the remaining jiffies otherwise if the condition evaluated to true before the timeout elapsed. Driver should have checked for zero return value instead of a positive value. MChan: Print a warning for -ERESTARTSYS. 2023-10-18eth: bnxt: fix backward compatibility with older devicesJakub Kicinski1-1/+1
Recent FW interface update bumped the size of struct hwrm_func_cfg_input above 128B which is the max some devices support. Probe on Stratus (BCM957452) with FW 20.8.3.11 fails with: bnxt_en ...: Unable to reserve tx rings bnxt_en ...: 2nd rings reservation failed. bnxt_en ...: Not enough rings available. Once probe is fixed other errors pop up: bnxt_en ...: Failed to set async event completion ring. This is because __hwrm_send() rejects requests larger than bp->hwrm_max_ext_req_len with -E2BIG. Since the driver doesn't actually access any of the new fields, yet, trim the length. It should be safe. Similar workaround exists for backing_store_cfg_input. Although that one mins() to a constant of 256, not 128 we'll effectively use here. Michael explains: "the backing store cfg command is supported by relatively newer firmware that will accept 256 bytes at least." To make debugging easier in the future add a warning for oversized requests. 2023-01-30devlink: remove devlink featuresJiri Pirko1-1/+0
Devlink features were introduced to disallow devlink reload calls of userspace before the devlink was fully initialized. The reason for this workaround was the fact that devlink reload was originally called without devlink instance lock held. However, with recent changes that converted devlink reload to be performed under devlink instance lock, this is redundant so remove devlink features entirely. Note that mlx5 used this to enable devlink reload conditionally only when device didn't act as multi port slave. Move the multi port check into mlx5_devlink_reload_down() callback alongside with the other checks preventing the device from reload in certain states. 2022-12-01net: devlink: let the core report the driver name instead of the driversVincent Mailhol1-4/+0
The driver name is available in device_driver::name. Right now, drivers still have to report this piece of information themselves in their devlink_ops::info_get callback function. If the down function fails, then devlink will not call the corresponding up function, thus the lock is released in the down error paths. v2: Don't use devlink_reload_disable() and devlink_reload_enable(). Instead, check that the netdev is not in unregistered state before proceeding with reload. P5 devices store NVM arrays using a different internal representation. This implementation detail permeates into the HWRM API, requiring the caller to explicitly index the array elements in HWRM_NVM_GET_VARIABLE on these devices. 2021-08-30bnxt_en: update all firmware calls to use the new APIsEdwin Peer1-32/+48
The conversion follows this general pattern for most of the calls: 1. The input message is changed from a stack variable initialized using bnxt_hwrm_cmd_hdr_init() to a pointer allocated and intialized using hwrm_req_init(). 2. If we don't need to read the firmware response, the hwrm_send_message() call is replaced with hwrm_req_send(). 3. If we need to read the firmware response, the mutex lock is replaced by hwrm_req_hold() to hold the response. When the response is read, the mutex unlock is replaced by hwrm_req_drop(). If additional DMA buffers are needed for firmware response data, the hwrm_req_dma_slice() is used instead of calling dma_alloc_coherent(). Some minor refactoring is also done while doing these conversions. v2: Fix unintialized variable warnings in __bnxt_hwrm_get_tx_rings() and bnxt_approve_mac() Signed-off-by: Edwin Peer <edwin.peer@broadcom.com> Signed-off-by: Michael Chan <michael.chan@broadcom.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2021-08-09devlink: Set device as early as possibleLeon Romanovsky1-3/+6
All kernel devlink implementations call to devlink_alloc() during initialization routine for specific device which is used later as a parent device for devlink_register(). Such late device assignment causes to the situation which requires us to call to device_register() before setting other parameters, but that call opens devlink to the world and makes accessible for the netlink users. Any attempt to move devlink_register() to be the last call generates the following error due to access to the devlink->dev pointer. [ 8.758862] devlink_nl_param_fill+0x2e8/0xe50 [ 8.760305] devlink_param_notify+0x6d/0x180 [ 8.760435] __devlink_params_register+0x2f1/0x670 [ 8.760558] devlink_params_register+0x1e/0x20 The simple change of API to set devlink device in the devlink_alloc() instead of devlink_register() fixes all this above and ensures that prior to call to devlink_register() everything already set. 2020-11-20devlink: move flash end and begin to core devlinkJacob Keller1-2/+0
When performing a flash update via devlink, device drivers may inform user space of status updates via devlink_flash_update_(begin|end|timeout|status)_notify functions. It is expected that drivers do not send any status notifications unless they send a begin and end message. If a driver sends a status notification without sending the appropriate end notification upon finishing (regardless of success or failure), the current implementation of the devlink userspace program can get stuck endlessly waiting for the end notification that will never come. The current ice driver implementation may send such a status message without the appropriate end notification in rare cases. Fixing the ice driver is relatively simple: we just need to send the begin_notify at the start of the function and always send an end_notify no matter how the function exits. Rather than assuming driver authors will always get this right in the future, lets just fix the API so that it is not possible to get wrong. Make devlink_flash_update_begin_notify and devlink_flash_update_end_notify static, and call them in devlink.c core code. Always send the begin_notify just before calling the driver's flash_update routine. Always send the end_notify just after the routine returns regardless of success or failure. Doing this makes the status notification easier to use from the driver, as it no longer needs to worry about catching failures and cleaning up by calling devlink_flash_update_end_notify. It is now no longer possible to do the wrong thing in this regard. We also save a couple of lines of code in each driver. 2020-11-20devlink: move request_firmware out of driverJacob Keller1-1/+1
All drivers which implement the devlink flash update support, with the exception of netdevsim, use either request_firmware or request_firmware_direct to locate the firmware file. Rather than having each driver do this separately as part of its .flash_update implementation, perform the request_firmware within net/core/devlink.c Replace the file_name parameter in the struct devlink_flash_update_params with a pointer to the fw object. Use request_firmware rather than request_firmware_direct. Although most Linux distributions today do not have the fallback mechanism implemented, only about half the drivers used the _direct request, as compared to the generic request_firmware. In the event that a distribution does support the fallback mechanism, the devlink flash update ought to be able to use it to provide the firmware contents. For distributions which do not support the fallback userspace mechanism, there should be essentially no difference between request_firmware and request_firmware_direct.
