2023-10-02net: tulip: Annotate struct mediatable with __counted_byKees Cook1-1/+1
Prepare for the coming implementation by GCC and Clang of the __counted_by attribute. Flexible array members annotated with __counted_by can have their accesses bounds-checked at run-time checking via CONFIG_UBSAN_BOUNDS (for array indexing) and CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE (for strcpy/memcpy-family functions). As found with Coccinelle[1], add __counted_by for struct mediatable. 2022-05-23eth: de4x5: remove support for Generic DECchip & DIGITAL EtherWORKS PCI/EISAJakub Kicinski4-6624/+0
Looks like almost all changes to this driver had been tree-wide refactoring since git era begun. There is one commit from Al 15 years ago which could potentially be fixing a real bug. The driver is using virt_to_bus() and is a real magnet for pointless cleanups. It seems unlikely to have real users. Let's try to shed this maintenance burden. On i386, when builtin (not a loadable module), the winbond-840 driver inspects boot_cpu_data to see what CPU family it is running on, and then acts on that data. The "family" struct member (x86) does not exist when running on UML, so prevent that test and do the default action. Commit 406f42fa0d3c ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. This patch takes care of drivers which cast netdev->dev_addr to a 16bit type, often with an explicit byte order. Most users of ndo_do_ioctl are ethernet drivers that implement the MII commands SIOCGMIIPHY/SIOCGMIIREG/SIOCSMIIREG, or hardware timestamping with SIOCSHWTSTAMP/SIOCGHWTSTAMP. Separate these from the few drivers that use ndo_do_ioctl to implement SIOCBOND, SIOCBR and SIOCWANDEV commands. This is a purely cosmetic change intended to help readers find their way through the implementation. 2021-07-27tulip: use ndo_siocdevprivateArnd Bergmann1-3/+8
The tulip driver has a debugging method over ioctl built-in, but it does not actually check the command type, which may end up leading to random behavior when trying to run other ioctls on it. Change the driver to use ndo_siocdevprivate and limit the execution further to the first private command code. If anyone still has tools to run these debugging commands, they might have to be patched for it if they pass different ioctl command. 2020-06-27docs: networking: reorganize driver documentation againJakub Kicinski1-2/+2
Organize driver documentation by device type. Most documents have fairly verbose yet uninformative names, so let users first select a well defined device type, and then search for a particular driver. While at it rename the section from Vendor drivers to Hardware drivers. This seems more accurate, besides people sometimes refer to out-of-tree drivers as vendor drivers. Earlier, .suspend() and .resume() were invoking pci_disable_device() and pci_enable_device() respectively to manage the device's power state. driver also invoked pci_save/restore_state() and pci_set_power_sitate(). With generic PM, it is no longer needed. The driver is expected to just implement driver-specific operations and leave power transitions to PCI core. Compile-tested only. With legacy PM hooks, it was the responsibility of a driver to manage PCI states and also the device's power state. The generic approach is to let the PCI core handle the work. The legacy suspend() and resume() were making use of pci_read/write_config_dword() to enable/disable wol. Driver editing configuration registers of a device is not recommended. This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines, I also fixed the indentation.
