Move CIFS/SMB3 related client and server files (cifs.ko and ksmbd.ko and helper modules) to new fs/smb subdirectory: fs/cifs --> fs/smb/client fs/ksmbd --> fs/smb/server fs/smbfs_common --> fs/smb/common Suggested-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> Acked-by: Namjae Jeon <linkinjeon@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Steve French <stfrench@microsoft.com>
2023-05-17SMB3: drop reference to cfile before sending oplock breakBharath SM1-4/+3
In cifs_oplock_break function we drop reference to a cfile at the end of function, due to which close command goes on wire after lease break acknowledgment even if file is already closed by application but we had deferred the handle close. If other client with limited file shareaccess waiting on lease break ack proceeds operation on that file as soon as first client sends ack, then we may encounter status sharing violation error because of open handle. Solution is to put reference to cfile(send close on wire if last ref) and then send oplock acknowledgment to server. 2023-03-24cifs: append path to open_enter trace eventShyam Prasad N1-0/+11
We do not dump the file path for smb3_open_enter ftrace calls, which is a severe handicap while debugging using ftrace evens. This change adds that info. Unfortunately, we're not updating the path in open params in many places; which I had to do as a part of this change. 2023-03-23cifs: do not poll server interfaces too regularlyShyam Prasad N1-0/+14
We have the server interface list hanging off the tcon structure today for reasons unknown. So each tcon which is connected to a file server can query them separately, which is really unnecessary. To avoid this, in the query function, we will check the time of last update of the interface list, and avoid querying the server if it is within a certain range. 2023-03-02cifs: improve checking of DFS links over STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_INVALIDPaulo Alcantara1-10/+13
Do not map STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_INVALID to -EREMOTE under non-DFS shares, or 'nodfs' mounts or CONFIG_CIFS_DFS_UPCALL=n builds. Otherwise, in the slow path, get a referral to figure out whether it is an actual DFS link. This could be simply reproduced under a non-DFS share by running the following $ mount.cifs //srv/share /mnt -o ... $ cat /mnt/$(printf '\U110000') cat: '/mnt/'$'\364\220\200\200': Object is remote Fixes: c877ce47e137 ("cifs: reduce roundtrips on create/qinfo requests") CC: stable@vger.kernel.org # 6.2 Signed-off-by: Paulo Alcantara (SUSE) <pc@manguebit.com> Reviewed-by: Ronnie Sahlberg <lsahlber@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Steve French <stfrench@microsoft.com>
2023-02-21cifs: Change the I/O paths to use an iterator rather than a page listDavid Howells1-197/+181
Currently, the cifs I/O paths hand lists of pages from the VM interface routines at the top all the way through the intervening layers to the socket interface at the bottom. This is a problem, however, for interfacing with netfslib which passes an iterator through to the ->issue_read() method (and will pass an iterator through to the ->issue_write() method in future). Netfslib takes over bounce buffering for direct I/O, async I/O and encrypted content, so cifs doesn't need to do that. Netfslib also converts IOVEC-type iterators into BVEC-type iterators if necessary. Further, cifs needs foliating - and folios may come in a variety of sizes, so a page list pointing to an array of heterogeneous pages may cause problems in places such as where crypto is done. Change the cifs I/O paths to hand iov_iter iterators all the way through instead. Notes: (1) Some old routines are #if'd out to be removed in a follow up patch so as to avoid confusing diff, thereby making the diff output easier to follow. I've removed functions that don't overlap with anything added. (2) struct smb_rqst loses rq_pages, rq_offset, rq_npages, rq_pagesz and rq_tailsz which describe the pages forming the buffer; instead there's an rq_iter describing the source buffer and an rq_buffer which is used to hold the buffer for encryption. (3) struct cifs_readdata and cifs_writedata are similarly modified to smb_rqst. The ->read_into_pages() and ->copy_into_pages() are then replaced with passing the iterator directly to the socket. The iterators are stored in these structs so that they are persistent and don't get deallocated when the function returns (unlike if they were stack variables). (4) Buffered writeback is overhauled, borrowing the code from the afs filesystem to gather up contiguous runs of folios. The XARRAY-type iterator is then used to refer directly to the pagecache and can be passed to the socket to transmit data directly from there. This includes: cifs_extend_writeback() cifs_write_back_from_locked_folio() cifs_writepages_region() cifs_writepages() (5) Pages are converted to folios. (6) Direct I/O uses netfs_extract_user_iter() to create a BVEC-type iterator from an IOBUF/UBUF-type source iterator. (7) smb2_get_aead_req() uses netfs_extract_iter_to_sg() to extract page fragments from the iterator into the scatterlists that the crypto layer prefers. (8) smb2_init_transform_rq() attached pages to smb_rqst::rq_buffer, an xarray, to use as a bounce buffer for encryption. An XARRAY-type iterator can then be used to pass the bounce buffer to lower layers. 2023-02-21smb3: Replace smb2pdu 1-element arrays with flex-arraysKees Cook1-7/+7
The kernel is globally removing the ambiguous 0-length and 1-element arrays in favor of flexible arrays, so that we can gain both compile-time and run-time array bounds checking[1]. Replace the trailing 1-element array with a flexible array in the following structures: struct smb2_err_rsp struct smb2_tree_connect_req struct smb2_negotiate_rsp struct smb2_sess_setup_req struct smb2_sess_setup_rsp struct smb2_read_req struct smb2_read_rsp struct smb2_write_req struct smb2_write_rsp struct smb2_query_directory_req struct smb2_query_directory_rsp struct smb2_set_info_req struct smb2_change_notify_rsp struct smb2_create_rsp struct smb2_query_info_req struct smb2_query_info_rsp Replace the trailing 1-element array with a flexible array, but leave the existing structure padding: struct smb2_file_all_info struct smb2_lock_req Adjust all related size calculations to match the changes to sizeof(). 2022-12-19cifs: reduce roundtrips on create/qinfo requestsPaulo Alcantara1-4/+24
To work around some Window servers that return STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_INVALID on query infos under DFS namespaces that contain non-ASCII characters, we started checking for -ENOENT on every file open, and if so, then send additional requests to figure out whether it is a DFS link or not. It means that all those requests will be sent to every non-existing file. So, in order to reduce the number of roundtrips, check earlier whether status code is STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_INVALID and tcon supports dfs, and if so, then map -ENOENT to -EREMOTE so mount or automount will take care of chasing the DFS link -- if it isn't an DFS link, then -ENOENT will be returned appropriately. 2022-10-15smb3: improve SMB3 change notification supportSteve French1-7/+28
Change notification is a commonly supported feature by most servers, but the current ioctl to request notification when a directory is changed does not return the information about what changed (even though it is returned by the server in the SMB3 change notify response), it simply returns when there is a change. This ioctl improves upon CIFS_IOC_NOTIFY by returning the notify information structure which includes the name of the file(s) that changed and why. See MS-SMB2 2.2.35 for details on the individual filter flags and the file_notify_information structure returned. To use this simply pass in the following (with enough space to fit at least one file_notify_information structure) struct __attribute__((__packed__)) smb3_notify { uint32_t completion_filter; bool watch_tree; uint32_t data_len; uint8_t data[]; } __packed; using CIFS_IOC_NOTIFY_INFO 0xc009cf0b or equivalently _IOWR(CIFS_IOCTL_MAGIC, 11, struct smb3_notify_info) The ioctl will block until the server detects a change to that directory or its subdirectories (if watch_tree is set). 2022-10-13cifs: enable caching of directories for which a lease is heldRonnie Sahlberg1-1/+1
This expands the directory caching to now cache an open handle for all directories (up to a maximum) and not just the root directory. In this patch, locking and refcounting is intended to work as so: The main function to get a reference to a cached handle is find_or_create_cached_dir() called from open_cached_dir() These functions are protected under the cfid_list_lock spin-lock to make sure we do not race creating new references for cached dirs with deletion of expired ones. An successful open_cached_dir() will take out 2 references to the cfid if this was the very first and successful call to open the directory and it acquired a lease from the server. One reference is for the lease and the other is for the cfid that we return. The is lease reference is tracked by cfid->has_lease. If the directory already has a handle with an active lease, then we just take out one new reference for the cfid and return it. It can happen that we have a thread that tries to open a cached directory where we have a cfid already but we do not, yet, have a working lease. In this case we will just return NULL, and this the caller will fall back to the case when no handle was available. In this model the total number of references we have on a cfid is 1 for while the handle is open and we have a lease, and one additional reference for each open instance of a cfid. Once we get a lease break (cached_dir_lease_break()) we remove the cfid from the list under the spinlock. This prevents any new threads to use it, and we also call smb2_cached_lease_break() via the work_queue in order to drop the reference we got for the lease (we drop it outside of the spin-lock.) Anytime a thread calls close_cached_dir() we also drop a reference to the cfid. When the last reference to the cfid is released smb2_close_cached_fid() will be invoked which will drop the reference ot the dentry we held for this cfid and it will also, if we the handle is open/has a lease also call SMB2_close() to close the handle on the server. Two events require special handling: invalidate_all_cached_dirs() this function is called from SMB2_tdis() and cifs_mark_open_files_invalid(). In both cases the tcon is either gone already or will be shortly so we do not need to actually close the handles. They will be dropped server side as part of the tcon dropping. But we have to be careful about a potential race with a concurrent lease break so we need to take out additional refences to avoid the cfid from being freed while we are still referencing it. free_cached_dirs() which is called from tconInfoFree(). This is called quite late in the umount process so there should no longer be any open handles or files and we can just free all the remaining data. 2022-06-23cifs: periodically query network interfaces from serverShyam Prasad N1-1/+1
Currently, we only query the server for network interfaces information at the time of mount, and never afterwards. This can be a problem, especially for services like Azure, where the IP address of the channel endpoints can change over time. With this change, we schedule a 600s polling of this info from the server for each tree connect. An alternative for periodic polling was to do this only at the time of reconnect. But this could delay the reconnect time slightly. Also, there are some challenges w.r.t how we have cifs_reconnect implemented today. 2022-06-09netfs: Fix gcc-12 warning by embedding vfs inode in netfs_i_contextDavid Howells1-4/+4
While randstruct was satisfied with using an open-coded "void *" offset cast for the netfs_i_context <-> inode casting, __builtin_object_size() as used by FORTIFY_SOURCE was not as easily fooled. This was causing the following complaint[1] from gcc v12: In file included from include/linux/string.h:253, from include/linux/ceph/ceph_debug.h:7, from fs/ceph/inode.c:2: In function 'fortify_memset_chk', inlined from 'netfs_i_context_init' at include/linux/netfs.h:326:2, inlined from 'ceph_alloc_inode' at fs/ceph/inode.c:463:2: include/linux/fortify-string.h:242:25: warning: call to '__write_overflow_field' declared with attribute warning: detected write beyond size of field (1st parameter); maybe use struct_group()? [-Wattribute-warning] 242 | __write_overflow_field(p_size_field, size); | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fix this by embedding a struct inode into struct netfs_i_context (which should perhaps be renamed to struct netfs_inode). The struct inode vfs_inode fields are then removed from the 9p, afs, ceph and cifs inode structs and vfs_inode is then simply changed to "netfs.inode" in those filesystems. Further, rename netfs_i_context to netfs_inode, get rid of the netfs_inode() function that converted a netfs_i_context pointer to an inode pointer (that can now be done with &ctx->inode) and rename the netfs_i_context() function to netfs_inode() (which is now a wrapper around container_of()). Most of the changes were done with: perl -p -i -e 's/vfs_inode/netfs.inode/'g \ `git grep -l 'vfs_inode' -- fs/{9p,afs,ceph,cifs}/*.[ch]` Kees suggested doing it with a pair structure[2] and a special declarator to insert that into the network filesystem's inode wrapper[3], but I think it's cleaner to embed it - and then it doesn't matter if struct randomisation reorders things. Dave Chinner suggested using a filesystem-specific VFS_I() function in each filesystem to convert that filesystem's own inode wrapper struct into the VFS inode struct[4]. Version #2: - Fix a couple of missed name changes due to a disabled cifs option. - Rename nfs_i_context to nfs_inode - Use "netfs" instead of "nic" as the member name in per-fs inode wrapper structs. [ This also undoes commit 507160f46c55 ("netfs: gcc-12: temporarily disable '-Wattribute-warning' for now") that is no longer needed ] Fixes: bc899ee1c898 ("netfs: Add a netfs inode context") Reported-by: Jeff Layton <jlayton@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: Jeff Layton <jlayton@kernel.org> Reviewed-by: Kees Cook <keescook@chromium.org> Reviewed-by: Xiubo Li <xiubli@redhat.com> cc: Jonathan Corbet <corbet@lwn.net> cc: Eric Van Hensbergen <ericvh@gmail.com> cc: Latchesar Ionkov <lucho@ionkov.net> cc: Dominique Martinet <asmadeus@codewreck.org> cc: Christian Schoenebeck <linux_oss@crudebyte.com> cc: Marc Dionne <marc.dionne@auristor.com> cc: Ilya Dryomov <idryomov@gmail.com> cc: Steve French <smfrench@gmail.com> cc: William Kucharski <william.kucharski@oracle.com> cc: "Matthew Wilcox (Oracle)" <willy@infradead.org> cc: Dave Chinner <david@fromorbit.com> cc: linux-doc@vger.kernel.org cc: v9fs-developer@lists.sourceforge.net cc: linux-afs@lists.infradead.org cc: ceph-devel@vger.kernel.org cc: linux-cifs@vger.kernel.org cc: samba-technical@lists.samba.org cc: linux-fsdevel@vger.kernel.org cc: linux-hardening@vger.kernel.org Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/d2ad3a3d7bdd794c6efb562d2f2b655fb67756b9.camel@kernel.org/ [1] Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20220517210230.864239-1-keescook@chromium.org/ [2] Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20220518202212.2322058-1-keescook@chromium.org/ [3] Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20220524101205.GI2306852@dread.disaster.area/ [4] Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/165296786831.3591209.12111293034669289733.stgit@warthog.procyon.org.uk/ # v1 Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/165305805651.4094995.7763502506786714216.stgit@warthog.procyon.org.uk # v2 Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
