2022-02-08dma-buf-map: Rename to iosys-mapLucas De Marchi3-13/+13
Rename struct dma_buf_map to struct iosys_map and corresponding APIs. Over time dma-buf-map grew up to more functionality than the one used by dma-buf: in fact it's just a shim layer to abstract system memory, that can be accessed via regular load and store, from IO memory that needs to be acessed via arch helpers. The idea is to extend this API so it can fulfill other needs, internal to a single driver. Example: in the i915 driver it's desired to share the implementation for integrated graphics, which uses mostly system memory, with discrete graphics, which may need to access IO memory. The conversion was mostly done with the following semantic patch: @r1@ @@ - struct dma_buf_map + struct iosys_map @r2@ @@ ( - DMA_BUF_MAP_INIT_VADDR + IOSYS_MAP_INIT_VADDR | - dma_buf_map_set_vaddr + iosys_map_set_vaddr | - dma_buf_map_set_vaddr_iomem + iosys_map_set_vaddr_iomem | - dma_buf_map_is_equal + iosys_map_is_equal | - dma_buf_map_is_null + iosys_map_is_null | - dma_buf_map_is_set + iosys_map_is_set | - dma_buf_map_clear + iosys_map_clear | - dma_buf_map_memcpy_to + iosys_map_memcpy_to | - dma_buf_map_incr + iosys_map_incr ) @@ @@ - #include <linux/dma-buf-map.h> + #include <linux/iosys-map.h> Then some files had their includes adjusted and some comments were update to remove mentions to dma-buf-map. Since this is not specific to dma-buf anymore, move the documentation to the "Bus-Independent Device Accesses" section. v2: - Squash patches v3: - Fix wrong removal of dma-buf.h from MAINTAINERS - Move documentation from dma-buf.rst to device-io.rst v4: - Change documentation title and level Signed-off-by: Lucas De Marchi <lucas.demarchi@intel.com> Acked-by: Christian König <christian.koenig@amd.com> Acked-by: Sumit Semwal <sumit.semwal@linaro.org> Acked-by: Thomas Zimmermann <tzimmermann@suse.de> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20220204170541.829227-1-lucas.demarchi@intel.com
2022-01-26drm/ttm: add a weak BO reference to the resource v3Christian König1-0/+4
Keep track for which BO a resource was allocated. This is necessary to move the LRU handling into the resources. 2021-12-01drm/ttm: Clarify that the TTM_PL_SYSTEM is under TTMs controlZack Rusin1-0/+11
TTM takes full control over TTM_PL_SYSTEM placed buffers. This makes driver internal usage of TTM_PL_SYSTEM prone to errors because it requires the drivers to manually handle all interactions between TTM which can swap out those buffers whenever it thinks it's the right thing to do and driver. CPU buffers which need to be fenced and shared with accelerators should be placed in driver specific placements that can explicitly handle CPU/accelerator buffer fencing. Currently, apart, from things silently failing nothing is enforcing that requirement which means that it's easy for drivers and new developers to get this wrong. To avoid the confusion we can document this requirement and clarify the solution. This came up during a discussion on dri-devel: https://lore.kernel.org/dri-devel/232f45e9-8748-1243-09bf-56763e6668b3@amd.com Signed-off-by: Zack Rusin <zackr@vmware.com> Cc: Christian König <christian.koenig@amd.com> Cc: Thomas Hellström <thomas.hellstrom@linux.intel.com> Reviewed-by: Christian König <christian.koenig@amd.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20211110145034.487512-1-zackr@vmware.com

2021-11-05drm/ttm: remove ttm_bo_vm_insert_huge()Jason Gunthorpe1-2/+1
The huge page functionality in TTM does not work safely because PUD and PMD entries do not have a special bit. get_user_pages_fast() considers any page that passed pmd_huge() as usable: if (unlikely(pmd_trans_huge(pmd) || pmd_huge(pmd) || pmd_devmap(pmd))) { And vmf_insert_pfn_pmd_prot() unconditionally sets entry = pmd_mkhuge(pfn_t_pmd(pfn, prot)); eg on x86 the page will be _PAGE_PRESENT | PAGE_PSE. As such gup_huge_pmd() will try to deref a struct page: head = try_grab_compound_head(pmd_page(orig), refs, flags); and thus crash. Thomas further notices that the drivers are not expecting the struct page to be used by anything - in particular the refcount incr above will cause them to malfunction. Thus everything about this is not able to fully work correctly considering GUP_fast. Delete it entirely. It can return someday along with a proper PMD/PUD_SPECIAL bit in the page table itself to gate GUP_fast. 2021-08-25drm/ttm, drm/i915: Update ttm_move_memcpy for async useThomas Hellström1-1/+1
The buffer object argument to ttm_move_memcpy was only used to determine whether the destination memory should be cleared only or whether we should copy data. Replace it with a "clear" bool, and update the callers. The intention here is to be able to use ttm_move_memcpy() async under a dma-fence as a fallback if an accelerated blit fails in a security- critical path where data might leak if the blit is not properly performed. For that purpose the bo is an unsuitable argument since its relevant members might already have changed at call time. Finally, update the ttm_move_memcpy kerneldoc that seems to have ended up with a stale version. 2021-06-07drm/ttm: Document and optimize ttm_bo_pipeline_gutting()Thomas Hellström1-0/+13
If the bo is idle when calling ttm_bo_pipeline_gutting(), we unnecessarily create a ghost object and push it out to delayed destroy. Fix this by adding a path for idle, and document the function. Also avoid having the bo end up in a bad state vulnerable to user-space triggered kernel BUGs if the call to ttm_tt_create() fails. Finally reuse ttm_bo_pipeline_gutting() in ttm_bo_evict(). 2021-06-07drm/ttm: Add a generic TTM memcpy move for page-based iomemThomas Hellström5-0/+168
The internal ttm_bo_util memcpy uses ioremap functionality, and while it probably might be possible to use it for copying in- and out of sglist represented io memory, using io_mem_reserve() / io_mem_free() callbacks, that would cause problems with fault(). Instead, implement a method mapping page-by-page using kmap_local() semantics. As an additional benefit we then avoid the occasional global TLB flushes of ioremap() and consuming ioremap space, elimination of a critical point of failure and with a slight change of semantics we could also push the memcpy out async for testing and async driver development purposes. A special linear iomem iterator is introduced internally to mimic the old ioremap behaviour for code-paths that can't immediately be ported over. This adds to the code size and should be considered a temporary solution. Looking at the code we have a lot of checks for iomap tagged pointers. Ideally we should extend the core memremap functions to also accept uncached memory and kmap_local functionality. Then we could strip a lot of code.
