2019-10-05namespace: fix namespace.pl script to support relative pathsJacob Keller1-6/+7
The namespace.pl script does not work properly if objtree is not set to an absolute path. The do_nm function is run from within the find function, which changes directories. Because of this, appending objtree, $File::Find::dir, and $source, will return a path which is not valid from the current directory. This used to work when objtree was set to an absolute path when using "make namespacecheck". It appears to have not worked when calling ./scripts/namespace.pl directly. This behavior was changed in 7e1c04779efd ("kbuild: Use relative path for $(objtree)", 2014-05-14) Rather than fixing the Makefile to set objtree to an absolute path, just fix namespace.pl to work when srctree and objtree are relative. Also fix the script to use an absolute path for these by default. Use the File::Spec module for this purpose. It's been part of perl 5 since 5.005. The curdir() function is used to get the current directory when the objtree and srctree aren't set in the environment. rel2abs() is used to convert possibly relative objtree and srctree environment variables to absolute paths. Finally, the catfile() function is used instead of string appending paths together, since this is more robust when joining paths together. 2018-03-25kbuild: rename built-in.o to built-in.aNicholas Piggin1-1/+1
Incremental linking is gone, so rename built-in.o to built-in.a, which is the usual extension for archive files. This patch does two things, first is a simple search/replace: git grep -l 'built-in\.o' | xargs sed -i 's/built-in\.o/built-in\.a/g' The second is to invert nesting of nested text manipulations to avoid filtering built-in.a out from libs-y2: -libs-y2 := $(filter-out %.a, $(patsubst %/, %/built-in.a, $(libs-y))) +libs-y2 := $(patsubst %/, %/built-in.a, $(filter-out %.a, $(libs-y))) Signed-off-by: Nicholas Piggin <npiggin@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <yamada.masahiro@socionext.com>
2017-05-14scripts: Switch to more portable Perl shebangKamil Rytarowski1-2/+2
The default NetBSD package manager is pkgsrc and it installs Perl along other third party programs under custom and configurable prefix. The default prefix for binary prebuilt packages is /usr/pkg, and the Perl executable lands in /usr/pkg/bin/perl. This change switches "/usr/bin/perl" to "/usr/bin/env perl" as it's the most portable solution that should work for almost everybody. Perl's executable is detected automatically. This change switches -w option passed to the executable with more modern "use warnings;" approach. There is no functional change to the default behavior. While there, drop "require 5" from scripts/namespace.pl (Perl from 1994?). Signed-off-by: Kamil Rytarowski <n54@gmx.com> Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <yamada.masahiro@socionext.com>
2016-03-16kallsyms: add support for relative offsets in kallsyms address tableArd Biesheuvel1-0/+2
Similar to how relative extables are implemented, it is possible to emit the kallsyms table in such a way that it contains offsets relative to some anchor point in the kernel image rather than absolute addresses. On 64-bit architectures, it cuts the size of the kallsyms address table in half, since offsets between kernel symbols can typically be expressed in 32 bits. This saves several hundreds of kilobytes of permanent .rodata on average. In addition, the kallsyms address table is no longer subject to dynamic relocation when CONFIG_RELOCATABLE is in effect, so the relocation work done after decompression now doesn't have to do relocation updates for all these values. This saves up to 24 bytes (i.e., the size of a ELF64 RELA relocation table entry) per value, which easily adds up to a couple of megabytes of uncompressed __init data on ppc64 or arm64. Even if these relocation entries typically compress well, the combined size reduction of 2.8 MB uncompressed for a ppc64_defconfig build (of which 2.4 MB is __init data) results in a ~500 KB space saving in the compressed image. Since it is useful for some architectures (like x86) to retain the ability to emit absolute values as well, this patch also adds support for capturing both absolute and relative values when KALLSYMS_ABSOLUTE_PERCPU is in effect, by emitting absolute per-cpu addresses as positive 32-bit values, and addresses relative to the lowest encountered relative symbol as negative values, which are subtracted from the runtime address of this base symbol to produce the actual address. Support for the above is enabled by default for all architectures except IA-64 and Tile-GX, whose symbols are too far apart to capture in this manner. 2010-10-28namespace: add source file location exceptionsStephen Hemminger1-0/+24
Teach namespace checker about some special case files where the source is in unusual location. This fixes many of the source file not found errors (more can be added), and also prevents false positives for functions not being used. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
